Theodore grinned when his Flipendo hit the black-haired girl and vanished just as fast when he felt hers hitting him. He was not sure what spell it was, with the others shouting incantations around, he overheard hers.
Greta said something to him, something in german. He sent her a smile but he had no
idea what she just said. His little german was barely enough to introduce himself.
And then he got to feel the effect of the other rook's spell.
"Oh crap..." He rose his hand up to his face, more to hide than anything else. Oh, he'd get her back for this.

Adonis couldn’t help but contain the confident grin on his face when his spell landed. That was until he was quickly met with a spell from Dealla and was sent flying backwards. He would cast it again if he had to, this was chess after all and he was here to win. The Slytherin couldn’t let the fact that she was his tentmate get in the way of him winning this. It’s not like they weren’t going to get treated and tended to afterwards.
With a grunt that escaped his mouth while pushing himself back up to stand, Adonis raised his wand once again and got into his stance. He was ready to make his next move from behind the protection of Damion.

Santario’s eyes slid across the opponents on the other side of the field as tension built up. The air seemed to build with static energy, the calm before the storm, and then, lightning struck. The tension in the air had come to its apex, and spells exploded. Santario weaved her wand through the air as if performing the complexities of a dance. “Mucus ad Nauseam!” She called out as a green light burst from her wand and made its way towards her opposing rook, Theo.
At the same time, however, she watched the blue light emitted from his wand, and while she tried to dodge it, it still hit her in the shoulder. It was not enough to really knock her back the way the spell was intended, but in was enough to require her to take a hefty step back to retain her balance just as Mars jumped in front of her. Santario looked back at her foot with its heel in the air and the ball of her foot balancing on her square's back edge. Not today, buddy. She squared herself up in her rook spot and took a quick glance at the field, poor Dee was on fire, and that needed to be dealt with. “Don’t worry, Mars, I’m alright. It’s no picnic, but I’m alright. I’ve got your back.” Literally, if they got flipendoed, San would be there to help stabilize them. With a nod to the rest of her teammates like they could read each other’s minds, she steeled herself for the next round as the static in the air began to build again.

Chess Combat, Game 1
Round Two10th of July 2020, noon
Team Black got pretty nice tacticians and managed to make the battlefield play for them. Their first-round positioning opened very good shooting spots for them. And they utilised it just fine. Three out of four spells met their targets and dealt a nice burst of damage.
Team White's spells, though cast flawlessly, not all were aimed properly. But probably because Dealla was busy trying to dodge all the spells flying towards her. While trying to avoid the spells, the team had something in mind and a few players moved, conquering the middle line by moving Jack Warren into the centre of attention. Let's see how much more attention he'll be able to get.

Theo had another rather successful round. First round he hit the blackhaired girl with a Flipendo, now one of their bishops. He didn't really care that he got hit by one as well, that wouldn't stop him from beating Everett's team. For now it seemed like his team had caused more damage than taken, clearly they were superior in this game right?
He smirked in his friend's direction. Is that all you got, princess?

Dee had already raised her wand to extinguish the flames eating her sleeve - man, she'd liked that shirt - but someone else was faster. She shot Everett a quick but brilliant, thankful smile, and chose instead to go into offense again. While she couldn't attack Adonis directly this round, maybe she could knock Damion into him?
But that plan turned into dust and hopeful dreams when Damion forwent attacking or moving this round in favour of actively dodging her spell - plus, she suddenly didn't bother to aim that precisely anymore when she noticed two spells flying her way.
Cursing loudly, she made a last second attempt to dodge - where were the reflexes she was so proud of today?
But indeed, the first one, coming from Adonis, again, missed, although it had looked less like it had been due to her dodging efforts and more because... had he glanced at Everett last second? That's what it had looked like to her.
"Hey, Adonis, I know our Queen has pretty hair, but if you want to hit me, maybe you should keep your eyes on the target," she called, grinning, only to pay for her big mouth immediately when she was hit square by the second spell from the other team's bishop, Thomas.
Aaaand she was on fire again. Fantastic.

“Flipendo!” She flicked her wand as a blue light emitted from it, heading towards her foe. She saw a similar light heading for Mars and hitting them. If it were necessary, Santario would put her hands up to brace her teammate to stay in their space.
Whether it was being distracted by her opponent, or perhaps, distracted by helping Mars, if they had needed it, Santario had not realized that the opposing Queen had moved into position to strike her from across the board. Another blue light would come out of nowhere and connect with her shoulder. It didn’t surprise her that she was becoming a target as she was pretty sure out of her other teammates, besides Dee, she had the most offensive spells. She took a deep breath and flourished her wand in her hand, getting ready for the next round.

A particular song seemed to start playing in Jack's head as he took a single step into the center of the board. '♫I would walk five hundred miles, and I would walk 500 more♫,' by the Proclaimers. However, taking one step at a time was taking FOREVER. The Hufflepuff prefect was just trying to figure out if it took this long for him to less than five feet; the idea of five hundred miles was making him sick. Now that he stood in the center of the action with spells whizzing past him, he could do anything he wanted! Now his eyes were fixated on destroying the enemy queen.Action: Doing you as strategized

Mars was about to bite back a reply—an easy one really, seeing as casting a spell was impossible from their previous square (Bishop and all)—when the woosh of an incoming spell distracted them. Right, the next round had begun.
They stumbled back, managing to dodge the spell just enough that it only grazed their forearm. The wix's momentum carried them back a few more steps. Maybe they would have fallen if San hadn't been there to brace.
Shooting her a grin, they called, "Thanks for that!"
Well, the whole human shield thing had worked. For one of the spells. Another blast of light hit San and Mars cursed under their breath, looking up for the source. Ah. They'd forgotten about her, the Queen. Looking around, it didn't seem that their team was in the greatest shape. San had taken a few blows and Dee was back on fire, even though it seemed Rett had chosen not to be useless this time around.
They gritted their teeth. It didn't look great. But now, time to turn the tables. Mars stepped to the right, noting Jack's presence. His position was good for defense—he seemed set on tanking his way to victory, and they had no problem with that. The Ravenclaw flipped their wand in their fingers.
"You're going down," they muttered.
