Hogwarts Summer Camp Campfire Stories

Theodore had not mixed too much with the students from other schools yet, surprisingly. The young thunderbird was annoyed with himself. He came here to meet some people from othe countries, yet he mostly spent time with people from his own school. Well one Durmstrang he had met, but most of what she said to him he was unable to understand. Greta Franson, she was on his team in the chess combat, their Queen. The boy chuckled at the thought. It seemed that she had overestimated his language skills in german entirely. But well. She seemed like a nice person.

Campfire stories was something he had waited for, as it just seemed like something that belonged to a camp like this. And the blue colour of the flames just gave it that touch of magic that always fascinated the muggleborn. Once more he wished that his sister Ana could see all this.
Theo approached the food table.
After a few seconds of thinking he grabbed three s'mores and a handful of marshmallows.

Then he walked towards an empty bench near the fire and sat down. Fascinated he stared at the blue flames, then carefully held his hand closer to them. And closer. And closer. A smile appeared on his face when he almost touched the flames, but still felt nothing but a nice warmth. Likely a good precaution with all those kids around... But would it be able to melt marshmallows over this fire?

Theo put one of them on a stick and held it over the fire. At the very least it would heat up a little.

Hogwarts Summer Camp Campfire Stories
Before the hooded boy had given her a name Aurélie heard him whisper a goodbye to his friend. Specifically saying he 'couldn't do this now'. Hmm.. He seems like he's is a tough spot, maybe some peace and quiet will do him good, the girl assumed after overhearing. However, the hooded boy was polite and excused himself. After saying goobye, he marched away leaving Aurélie standing by the tree with Eyre. Eyre had curly, brown hair which made his bright blue eyes stand out even more from his pale skin. Aurélie liked him. She hadn't gotten to know him well yet but she wanted to, she could sense he was a good person with a big heart.

While Aurélie watched the nameless boy walk off, probably back to the tents, Eyre offered her some Jelly slugs and explained how Zyk (ah that's his name) wasn't usually one to leave suddenly without reason. He informed her Zyk had been acting differently for a couple of days already. Aurélie happily accepted some Jelly Slugs and popped one in her mouth that was Sour Cherry-flavoured. "Wow, that is sour! And so chewy.. I like these sweets, what are they called?", she uttered with a pout on her face which clearly showed she had never had a Jelly Slug before. After getting used to the taste she added; "That's alright about Zyk, he probably needs to be alone for a bit. We all have those days".

The second-year moved a tad closer to Aurélie and asked about her personal life. "Actually, I was born in Somalia but when I was one year old Nanna adopted me. She is originally French but we live in Scotland." Eyre told the new student about his parents to which Aurélie enthousiastically responded; "Cool, I haven't met many people here that speak French! Well, I haven't met many people here in general but you know..." Aurélie smirked and rolled her eyes at the boy. The young girl was happy Eyre hadn't left with his friend, not that she minded being alone but the point of coming to Summer Camp was so she could make friends before school started. This evening seemed like a good start. "So, did you learn about magic when you were little? I had no idea magic even excisted until this year. It so unbelievable..." Aurélie could have talked hours going on about how amazing she thought it all was. Real magic, flying broomsticks, a whole school especially for wizards and witches... But she assumed it was a common thing for Eyre since he was going to his second year. She decided not to overwhelm him with her excitement and show some interest in him instead.

"They're called Jelly Slugs…" Eyre explained, watching the girl eat the red looking thing. He couldn't help but grimace- he really, really hated those things. "Good, aren't they?" He lied. He figured that the worst he could do was shame her for liking them.

Eyre nodded at hearing about where she was from, his eyes brightening up as he learned that her mother was French. Maybe I could have someone to talk to, he thought to himself. They didn't really speak it at home aside from when his mother's family was over, and most of it was just helpful when he wanted to eavesdrop, but it was always fun having a French buddy.

"Really? Well, I'm a pureblood, so I've always known about magic." He told her. It still blew his mind when he thought about those who had no idea that magic even existed when they were younger. Magic was the core of Eyre's identity, and he knew little else.

"In all honesty, some of the muggle things that I hear about are unbelievable. Like, internet and sharp-phones and all of that.." He said. A little grin touched his lips. "You're going to LOVE sending owls, if you haven't before. Very efficient." He teased. All of his muggle-born friends did had an advantage with the phones and computers that they had at home, but Eyre loved letter writing. It felt more personal that way, and he figured that he'd be overloaded with information if he was able to chat with his friends on a whim.

A cold breeze blew his way. He should've worn an extra jacket over his jumper, because he was starting to realize that the yarn was rather thin. He stood up from the ground.

"Shall we go down to the campfire?" He asked her. Not only was the warmth much needed, but the S'mores were tempting him. He was very hungry.

one morning this sadness will fossilize and i will forget how to cry. ☆

As Aurélie chewed down the sour candy, Eyre grinned at her and said "Good, aren't they". "Well, I might get used to them. They are very sour though",she confessed while trying to hold in the sour Jelly Slug. Once she swallowed it, her face changed from a pout to a relieved appearance. When Eyre told her he was a pureblood, she recalled the lady from the ministry who had visited her house. "Oh, I'm pureblood too! I didn't know what it meant but someone from the Ministry came to my house and explained that apparently it means both my biological parents were wizards too. I never knew them that's why I didn't know about magic.", the young girl confined in Eyre. She didn't want him to feel sorry for her or make the topic so serious but she felt like he would be able to tell her more if she ever had any questions on the subject of purebloods.

"Sharp-phones? Oh! You mean smartphones? Yeah, those things are annoying. I prefer a good old-fashioned letter instead those noisy little machines." Since Aurélie had grown up with her grandmother, who didn't have a smartphone, the girl was used to writing letters via post. "Cool, so owls deliver our letters? I mean of course owls deliver them, it's Hogwarts duuh.." Aurélie rolled her eyes at Eyre but to herself really, for asking the most obvious questions. How else would people send something if they don't have phones? The young student hoped her amazement about everything didn't make her come over as dumb to her new acquaintance. A good, first impression was important, her nan had always taught her. Aurélie let out a silent sigh of relief when Eyre changer the topic and asked her to move closer to the campfire. "Yes, lovely idea. It's chillier than expected." the girl lied. She rarely got cold. It was another one of those traits she had gained after her incident but she'd rather keep that quiet. It might come over a strange to say she never got cold so instead she preferred to act like she did. However, it seemed Eyre wasn't so immune to the cold weather like her so she offered him her jacket; "You can borrow my sweater if you like, I'm not that cold." Before the boy could answer, she took of her beige, knitted sweater and offered it to Eyre. She knew it was usually the boy who offered a jacket to the girl but Aurélie wasn't a stickler for stereotypes. While walking towards the sapphire flames, surrounded by students who had filled up many of the seats by now, Aurélie asked; "Have you known Zyk for a long time or?" She glanced at the second-year and her big, golden eyes reflected sparks from the campfire.

Here is the song Lucia sings - Mythical by HopesNDreams.
Hopefully, I might be able to get a recording up of how she sings it soon, but no promises xD
"Fruity, gooey and sugary," Lucia repeated, and shrugged. "Works for me!"
She quickly pushed three of the sweets - all different colours - onto a stick and held it over the dancing blue flames.
As she waited for her sweet kebab to begin melting, Cash Ironwoods - a Slytherin girl whom Lucia had met once before - approached her and Scarlett.
"Oh, hi Cash!" Lucia greeted her, though keeping her eyes on the sweets, which were begining to look more rubbery. Was that a good thing, or not?
Cash made a joke about there always being food around whenever the two met, and Lucia snorted at Scarlett's reply.
The sweets seemed to be done now, almost melting into each other, and Lucia pulled the stick towards her, making sure that she didn't accidentally hit anyone with it.
Raising the end of the stick up to her mouth, Lucia tested the heat of the sweets by touching the top one with the end her tongue. It was hot, all right, and she retracted her tongue quickly before she burned it.
While waiting for it to cool down, she said thoughtfully, "I know a song which would be perfect for this sort of thing. It's not a story, exactly, but..."
After a second, she seemed to make her mind up and leant back against the bench, holding her stick just above her lap.
She took a moment to compose herself, then started to sing softly, sub-conciously swaying to the rhythm.
"Once upon a time
The stars told stories to the night
Stories whispered softly
By an ancient firelight
Stories dancing 'round the moon
And hiding in the stars
Stories drifting into you
And learning who you are
Men and beasts and magic
Battles won and choices failed
Legendary moments
Now reduced to fairy tales
Myths that start upon the moon
And end up in the sky
Legends calling out to you
And no one quite knows why..."

She had no idea if anyone outside of their trio would have heard, but it seemed to be almost silent, and her words might have carried on the wind.

Santario was a little late to the party, but she had contemplated whether she was actually coming to this one or not. Ultimately, she decided to go, her presence being proof enough of that. Though she wasn’t really here to socialize, San was here to do what she was known for, take photographs.

She very specifically left the flash attachment off her camera because she wanted the challenge of playing with the lighting and darker photos. Perhaps it would be a waste of film, but she wouldn’t know until she tried it. As she crested into the space, she would delightfully note that the campfire was blue; this would surely give her some fascinating photos. It would take no time at all for the *clicks* to start coming from her camera. They were not loud enough to disturb, but the mechanical noise would be easy enough to pick up on amongst the sounds of nature and the crackling fire.

While the last light of the day was still available, she got photos of the people who had beat her to it, but she wanted to wait for the sun to finish its descent, and if she was lucky, she would get some beautiful rain shots too. She adjusted the bag strap on her shoulder, her jacket on her bag, and brushed her French brain onto her back before sliding her camera strap around her neck and making her way over to the food table. San would snag a couple of sausages happy that something was not sickeningly sweet before settling at the drink section and picking up a particular boring looking water.

There was something however, that caught her eye, a girl just across the table from her with her own camera. “Do you develop them yourself?” She addressed the girl that she vaguely knew from her house as she took a drink of her water. She knew most kids didn’t, most of them had their parents or guardians do it for them, and San was one of them. The main difference was that she could and has developed her own photos, so she was always interested in knowing if others could.

Nostalgic was the word Griseldis would describe the feeling she had right now at this very moment. She remembered her own Campfire experience when she was still in the Muggle-world, Griseldis would join the Summer Camp and everyone share their own stories, some stories were scary, some stories were exciting, some stories were a bit sad and some stories were funny that made most of them had a good laugh in the end. Those were really nice memories and the lioness hope that this one would be fun as well. THIS would be her first time having a Campfire experience in the wizarding world after all!

The Gryffindor Prefect grinned at the thought, with sparkles of excitement in her eyes while she was still guiding the students to the Campfire. And to her delight, there were many students who were interested to participate in it. When the Professors and Prefects discussed planning different kinds of events for the Summer. The Mysterious Professor of Ancient Runes, Béatrice Lydursdattir was the one who decided to host the Campfire Stories event. Not only her, one of her House Prefects, Xailah who sometimes helped her hosting errands and the gentle giant Hufflepuff Prefect, Quinn who she had an unforgettable first impression at the masquerade ball were going to be helpers too. To Griseldis, this would be a wicked opportunity to interact with them more. Of course, Griseldis wouldn't forget to have a nice time with the friends she knew. She was quite happy when a few agreed to join.

Once they arrived at their destination. Griseldis turned around and couldn't find a certain Ravenclaw, "Huh? Where is Alan? I thought he was in the group with us a while ago..." Maybe he went to socialize with other new students or students from Durmstrangs. Being an optimist, she trusted Alan that he would be fine. She first wanted to greet the Professor and her fellow Prefects. She saw they were already sitting in front of the huge blue Campfire so she walked toward them with a big smile and took a seat on a log across them, "Hello, Professor Lydursdattir. I'm back with a group of students who are interested to share or listen to some Campfire stories.", She turned to look at Xailah and Quinn, then waved at them "Hi guys, it's been a while now. How are you all doing so far?" Before she could hear their replies, there was a girl with curly red hair came over to just giving her a polite nod, she returned her with a nod as well and watched her left without saying anything. Was the girl shy? At least she seemed polite. Right after that, a familiar brunette appeared and sat beside her, starting to put marshmallows on the stick. Oh, it was the Slytherin girl she and Alan met a few times before. Her name was Elspeth Blaine, the one and only. The girl always had this very cool aura around her, and when they first met, she appeared to be quite pragmatic but not in a bad way. Griseldis greeted the Slytherin girl warmly, "Hey, Elsie! So wicked to have you here." When Elspeth said that she hoped to hear some good stories, Griseldis then realized there hadn't been anyone sharing a story yet. Perhaps she should start one?

Maybe telling them a Chinese folk tales would be interesting, it might even let them get to know a bit of the Chinese culture too. And there was indeed a Chinese horror story she could share but despite being a horror story, it wasn't really entirely scary. Griseldis cleared her throat with a few soft coughs, trying to prepare herself, "Well, there is one story I will like to share...it's a very famous Chinese ghost story that has been told since the ancient dynasty."

Jess picked her way among the twigs and leaves on the ground as she walked towards the campfire, discernible through the trees by its vivid blue light. Wait- blue? Marveling at the flames, Jess figured that they must be very hot, as that was the case in all the blue fires she had ever seen before. Though- those had been in her Muggle kitchen, and only visible on the very tips of the flickering flames, so the typical rules of...fire hotness might not apply. Finally clearing the tree line, Jess walked into the campfire area and let out an audible gasp.

It was beautiful, with the blue flames more visible now without the trees and flyaway branches obscuring her view. There were also some kids flitting about, a few standing by themselves and the rest gathering in small groups and talking amongst one another. Most of them were dressed formally, or at least in fashionable clothing that Jess honestly wished she could have hanging in her closet. She looked down self-consciously, painfully aware of how plain her clothes now seemed in comparison to everyone else's. She had some ripped jeans on with a rainbow tie-dye hoodie thrown over them for good measure. After all, Jess had grown up with strict grandparents, and they had always insisted that she wear long clothing whenever she went out at night, especially to events such as campfires. She smiled at the memory, silently thanking them for making sure she was always warm and kept safe from mosquitoes.

Looking back up, Jess noted a table filled to the brim with a variety of snacks to roast over the fire. There were marshmallows, ingredients for s'mores, some soft candies, and sausages- sausages? To be fair, Jess reasoned, she had seen some of her friends roasting them over the fire before, like some sort of campfire-cooked hotdogs...there didn't seem to be any kind of buns here to put them in, though. She also lamented the lack of bread by the fire; it might not be a common campfire snack, but slightly toasting it- or at least whatever was left of it after Jess ate some fresh parts while waiting- was absolutely delicious. At least there were s'mores here, she thought. Walking over to the table and grabbing some marshmallows, crackers, and chocolate, Jess headed over to the campfire.

Looking around for a place to sit down, she saw a pretty girl holding a couple of marshmallows in her hand and sitting alone by the fire. Pushing back the nerves that had already started to rise at the prospect of talking to the girl, Jess told herself that this was probably the best event to interact and get close to people at. Stepping up to her, Jess tried her best to smile at the girl. "Hi," she said. "Mind if I sit down?"

"Promises are sacred and hugs can save the world."

Eyre smiled when she offered her sweater to her. "Oh... Thanks." He said, taking the soft sweater as they walked towards the blue flames. They were big and beautiful, he'd hardly seen flames like that before even as a pureblood. He couldn't help but reach out and touch them, letting them engulf his hand as he savored the silence and the smell of pine. Eyre actually started to zone out, before Aurelie talked to him again.

"Have you known Zyk for a long time or?"

He snapped out of it, smiling at her and finding a seat and and sitting down, leaving some space for Aurelie beside him.

"Oh, Zyk? Yeah, we shared a dorm together, and got to know each other there." He explained, draping the beige sweater over his jeans like a cozy blanket. "He's a good friend to have. Very extroverted, usually. We like to scrap a lot, which is always great fun." Eyre couldn't help but grin at the memories that he had with the blonde, before remembering how he was in such a sour mood. "It's always strange to see him so upset... It's really unlike him." He murmured, his eyes fading off into the campfire, little splashes of light dancing off of his blue eyes. It seemed like all of his friends were acting strangely recently.

"You're going to make lots of friends here. Hopefully they'll act less strange than mine have been, recently." Eyre chuckled softly, trying to brush off the thought of Ana again. "...Do you have loads of friends at home?"

On a hill near the stadium, a bonfire had been lit. It wasn't hard to find, not difficult to notice. Even before the blanket of night had fully settled over the campgrounds, the smell of burning logs and the flickering glow of the flames could well be seen nearly anywhere one might have found themselves on the grounds. Curious as she was, it was no wonder that this enigma had drawn the young Greta to investigate further. As the weeks had passed at this event, the Norse girl had grown more daring. Perhaps this actually had been good for her. Although away from home, she'd had no intention of straying far from Hanzo.

Yet, she'd hardly been able to find him whenever she had been in need of him. Even now, he was nowhere to be found. Although, for once, she hadn't actually been looking. Nor had she felt the need to pad after any of the others from her tent. Perhaps being amidst the foreigners had instilled in her a strange sense of bravado. It wouldn't do, after all, to give the impression that she were weak or frightened. She didn't want the Pigwartians to have any reason to find momentum for the offensive, or to inspire in them a sense of confidence before the game between their schools had even begun. Sometimes, even if it was faked, she would have to give the appearance of being more self-assured than she actually felt.

On this occasion, she actually did feel slightly more at ease, however. Perhaps it was the fire that allowed her a sense of calm. Or perhaps it was the elevatinonn of the hill that served to overlook the camp, allowing her something of a bird's eye view to peer down on those below as though they were little more than distant strangers of little consequence. Save for the lack of dense forestry, this could very well have been home in how she would wander near to the village and peer out at the muggles below from her loft within the trees.

Plus, she'd caught the scent of sugar. An intoxicating aroma that nearly always drew the sweet-toothed young girl. Such was her first stop once she had come upon the hilltop gathering. She had given the group only a cursory glance — enough to know that Hanzo wasn't there, nor did she see any of her tentmates — before making a bee-line to the table of goodies. Like every other planned gathering so far, it was almost overwhelming. At least it could be said that the British knew how to eat. What eventually drew her attention, however, were little sandwich looking creations. Fluffy white things squished between.. she inspected the display from which several had previously been pulled, took one, and had a nibble. Her face lit up pleasantly at the unexpectedly honey'd flavour of the cookie. Countenance alight with youthful glee, Greta helped herself to the necessities of what she would later learn were called S'mores.

Now that she had thoroughly helped herself to edibles, she turned back towards the fire, more than a little thankful that the grown-ups had elected to go with the normal fire rather than the orange version. While the latter was very pretty and she found it to be hypnotizing to gaze into, it was hot enough as it was. The blue would do well to shed the necessary light, and heat enough to cook their foot items.

In her skirting of the perimeter, scouting out where it was that she would sit, and what exactly it was that they were all doing there, Greta very nearly collided with something — or rather, someone — near her feet. She glanced down to see a familiar face, one that stared up at the sky while fingers danced across invisible keys.

For several seconds she stood there, looking down at him. Her mind urged her to say something, part of her even wanting to tease him for clearly having his thoughts focused on music when they ought to be directed towards the upcoming game. But.. the serenity across his face was almost mesmerizing. She'd opened her mouth to speak, only to find it shut again. In the end, she gave him a hasty, close-to-the-body wave of her hand before murmuring a quiet, "Sorry", in German and scurrying off towards the fire.

Perhaps that had been a mistake, however, to dart off. The more Greta looked, the less she seemed to recognise... anyone. Chewing on her lips, her eyes began to grow progressively wider as an expression of worry crept over her features. All that talk of bravery? She couldn't recall it. Timid steps carried her round the fire very nearly in a complete circuit before finally she spied something of a familiar profile.

[In German] "Hello, Theodore.. Can I sit here?" Greta asked, trying not to let the hesitation in her voice be too apparent. She'd defaulted to German with her query, remembering that this boy, whom she had first met at the chess game, had said he could speak it. At least a little. Granted, even as she asked, she recalled the confusion he had displayed on more than one occasion when she'd tried to speak with him at that very game.

[In English] "Ehm.. Is okay? Yes?" She inquired, awkward embarrassment over her less than adequate grasp of this nation's common language apparent on her features as she gestured with her one free hand towards the empty space on the bench beside Theodore. "Ehm.." Concentration collected in her brows as she tried to recall the right words. Do you know what's going on here? How hard was it to ask that? Apparently, very. Her gaze wandered slightly towards the fire, those around it, and finally back to the stick in Theo's hands as she pondered. "What is.. ehm.. What is this.. here?"

Reflexively, her gaze wandered pleadingly in search of her usual translators. Only too soon would she be reminded, however, that she was very much on her own. At least for the time being. With a silent sigh through her nose, teeth nibbling at her lower lip, she flicked her attention back to the boy to await his answer.
