"Let the game begin!"

And with that, the first round had begun and the entire game area became a patchwork quilt of colourful spells and incantations. The familiar jolt of magic and a good plan- if only dear Johannes had remembered that fumos landed local, now he had unknowingly boxed himself in- was the only thing that let him know his spell had succeeded before darkness came upon him. His face felt smothered, curls pressed uncomfortably against one abruptly closed eye and there was no difference between the back of his eyelid and the dark. Blindfolded, as if a creature deemed dangerous to themself and others.

Biting his tongue from a very passionate curse, both of his hands came up to the edge of the blindfold with the full intention to rip it off and probably rip into some kids in the meantime. From beyond the abyss that had become his visual, he heard the encouraging voice of Alexei urge everyone on, a good hint of annoyance held within the five words, and the sound of rapid sneezing. This was not going well. But his queen had the right idea.

A bad start, but they still had plenty of time to flip the table. A bad start, but what was a little blunder in the grand scheme of things? The rival team would not underestimate them. This was only the beginning.

Chess Combat, Game TWO

The teams continued to play thoughtfully. Players went for certain cooperation and aimed to at least not getting more damage. Katrina dodged the Knockback Jinx that was sent her way by Bridget, which made her able to move one cell forward. It seemed as if the Slytherin boy (Erik) made an attempt to move forward as well, but eventually kept his ground, protecting his Queen from the side.

The black Queen's spell, though not being a very bright cast, was aimed perfectly and it was an amazing display of agility from Raine, which made her avoid the spell the very last second before the collision.

While the other bishop from team Black (Neculai) stood to protect the face of his Queen, the other rook (Evanore) continued to roast Milosh, who just got the first flame extinguished (with the amazing luck of Queen Alexei). The next second his clothes were set on fire once again, though the flame seemed to be weaker than the previous one.

Johannes, indeed, removed his blindfold to find himself in the smoke, blocking his vision, though the smoke seemed to start dissipating.

On the other side of the field, Milosh conjured a semi-bright fire in the direction of the opposite rook, but it seems he concentrated too hard on the spell — some kind of strange aura affected him and spell went completely a different direction.

"Flipendo!" It wasn't really a spell she was eager to direct at her friend, but she didn't exactly have much of a choice. Besides, no hard feelings, right? And anyways, it missed. Although she would never admit it out loud, and felt bad for thinking it, she was disappointed that the Knockback Jinx hadn't hit its mark. Just another thing that came with being so competitive.

This round hadn't gone as well overall for her team, although the older Ilvermorny girl had sent yet another perfect Incendio at the rook across from her. Honestly, with the girl's clear disposition to cast the Fire-Making Spell, it was a surprise she didn't go to Hogwarts. The students from her school, quite possibly herself included, seemed to think fire was the only feasible solution to their problems, despite the fact it usually just made things worse. The Slytherin certainly wasn't complaining, though; the fire would keep him occupied.

Their Queen's words reminded her of something. Encouragement. It was a normal part of team sports, and in the wizarding world, this counted, right? Bridget was not huge on the whole cheering thing and tended to remain silent, but if it would help her team keep going strong, she'd do it. "Come on! We've got this."

Despite the fact things hadn't gone quite as she would've hoped, she readied her wand once more. No matter what, she just had to keep casting and hope her spells landed. Narrowed eyes surveyed the board and formulated a new strategy. It was time to get back ahead.

Evanore kept close attention to her current opponent, the boy in the hoodie. Knowing that multiple flames would be harder to put out than one, she cast her second incendio duo at the boy through the sniffles and sneezes. And it was apparently a good decision, as he seemed to have managed to put out the first one already. Though, this new fire did not seem as lively as strong as the first one. Evanore assumed that it would probably go out fast on its own, which was really not what she attempted. It must have been because of her challenging state from the previous spell her opponent had cast. Her nose was red and stuffy, nothing different than a bad cold, but if anything it made spellcasting and focusing on the game that much harder than it needed to be. Though, that was probably the intentions of the boy. He’d done a good job with that one.

There was no doubt that adrenaline was pumping through the veins of the small girl. How could anyone not experience that in this situation? There were blasts coming from all sides, incantations being muttered from everyone, and knowing when someone could be attacking you was no easy task. At least she’d be able to keep an eye out on peoples placement on the board and their range. Knowing that at this time, the only one who could target Evanore was the boy right in front of her. And he was on fire, so what could he possibly do? *ACHOO*, right, he’d already done something. Evanore quickly pushed a strand of heir out of her face as she prepared for her next move.

Milo had attempted to cast Incendio towards the girl across from him, but to no avail. He silently swore in Russian as he had sworn he focused and put all his effort into the spell. Maybe the fire had been what distracted him. The blonde haired boy looked down at his sleeve to find it not on fire anymore, just singed with holes littering the arm. He turned to give the girl they decided to be their Queen a thumbs up and was about to let out a sigh of relief when he heard the familiar crackle of flames eating up his clothing.

The boy flailed around, his other sleeve no on fire. It was getting "eaten up" as quickly as his other sleeve had been so the spell was weaker. Milo frowned but then looked up to see the girl sniffling and sneezed. A small lopsided smile appeared on his face. Yeah he was getting his butt beat by this girl across from him with her Incendio Duo's but he had knocked off her accuracy due to a little what looked like "allergies". Even though he had managed to withstand two successful spells being thrown at him, he was getting exhausted, and burnt rather quickly.

He shook his head and glanced around the board at his peers and the opposite team. A small plan formed in his head and he silently nodded to himself. With his wand clutched in hand, and his right arm now the one on fire, he prepared and waited for his next move. It would have to do. It was smart, hopefully it would work or at least be a small distraction for now.

Yawning slightly, he surveyed the affects of the most recent round. It was, as with the first one, a fairly mixed bag. He ran his hand through his hair, mussing his normally perfectly arranged locks. They still weren't having quite the amazing sweep of the board (pun) that he would have liked but they were having some success. The redhead gracefully dodged a knockback jinx and the dark-haired girl in front of him also managed to spectacularly dodge a spell. The blindfolded boy managed to remove his blindfold, not that it did much good since he was still surrounded by thick smoke. Alexei's own spell had worked that time, which was nice. Unfortunately, the boy he had extinguished managed to promptly catch on fire again. How inconsiderate...

That boy was still on fire, which was unfortunate, but it didn't seem as strong and Alexei didn't intend to spend the entire game putting out his team. Not the way one won something like this. No, the way that to win this was to hit back and hard. Then again, his magic seemed rather off today, and tackling other players seemed a bad idea. He drummed his wand against his leg for a moment before making a choice. He yawned again as though he was bored before continuing his plan.

Long story short, I survived

Erik was ready. He saw his first victim coming into range to do some significant damage. As much as he would have liked to toy with his prey he had to forcefully remind himself that it was not an option. The team came first. He had to make up for last time. No more excuses. Actions spoke louder then words after all. Disgruntled with his own moral code he took his blackthorn wand out of his backpocket as he aimed at his prey. Flipendo!, he yelled.

Sweaty fingers tried to remain in control of his grip on his wand. The Dhampir wanted to do this right. For once he wanted to be a teamplayer, to be an asset instead of a liability. To experience what dueling was all about and what the appeal to this kind of 'sport' was for some of his peers, without the constant fear of losing control.

The perfect opportunity had come to pass as Chess Combat had come, now he could have some experience practicing them in a real life situation instead of reading all about it. It also bore the opportunity for a real test on how much grip he really had on the beast inside of him. It was a part of him, as much as the seeker and the Ravenclaw were part of him. It wasn't something you could just shut off, no it was far from that. It could be compared to something that was dormant, yet ever vigilant and with the slightest provocation it would awaken... And when it awakened, you could better start running... For the beast would try with all its might to pull and tear at the chains of 'control'.

Neculai shook his head as if the simple movement could eradicate the thoughts that were creeping in his head and distracting him from the game. Legs moved automatically as he regained his focus. Eyeing the others of his team whilst nervously clenching his left fist.

It was showtime and he needed to focus on what he had to do. For the teams sake. To prove he was an asset.

Katrina moved out of the smoke. Coughing once to clear her lungs. No point in having a cough interrupt any spells she decided to cast. The game was moving ahead without her and honestly, she had no clue what she was supposed to be doing.

There was a flash of light and Katrina managed to lean to the side just in time. It flew past and ended up hitting nothing. Katrina scanned the row of people opposite of her and noticed that Bridget's wand was extended and pointing at her. Katrina gave her an incredulous look and a smirk pulled at her lips. Bridget had tried to Flippindo her? She couldn't hide the snort that escaped her lips, she was glad it hadn't actually hit her. Katrina refocused on the game, looking at what others were doing.

It was time to make her move. She was going to do something. What exactly? She really wasn't all too sure. She definitely should have read the rulebook before diving head first into a game that she hardly understood. Hopefully her best guess at what to do would be the best choice of action.

Katrina fiddled with her wand, mind clicking into place. She knew exactly what to do.

She couldn't believe that she survived. She dodged and managed to survive someone slinging a bloody spell at her! Raine hadn't been able to attack yet, something she was quite upset about but she knew that she needed to work some magic and survive this. Hopefully her luck stayed with her until she was able to target another student with a spell. This was getting stressful.
