A New Friend? Closed

The castle corridors weren't bustling with as many people as they usually did, Allie noted to herself as she wandered around the castle that was to be her home for a while. Well, home away from home, Allie corrected herself, smiling a little. She had been writing to her family quite often, updating them on everything that was going on at Hogwarts. To be honest, Allie missed them a lot. Even the thrill of getting to learn magic (finally!) wasn't enough to distract her from her homesickness. Stop thinking about it! She chided herself, knowing the more she thought about it the worse it would get.

That morning, she had woken up with the intent to get to know her way around the castle, and promptly ended up lost. . . but she didn't mind very much. Allie knew she could ask an older student or professor how to get wherever she wanted to. Glancing around the halls, she gave one of the portraits a smile and a wave. Turning back to face the direction she was walking in, Allie saw a boy with dark hair walking straight towards her, seemingly lost in thought. She didn't have enough time to move out of the way, and he bumped into her. That seemed to startle him out of his daze, and he quickly apologized. "I'm so sorry, please forgive my clumsiness."

"Oh, it's perfectly alright." Allie said, giving the boy a smile. He seemed about her age, and was probably another first year. She glanced at his tie, which was covered in yellow and black stripes that slid diagonally from edge to edge. Hufflepuff, she thought. Then, remembering, she added out loud, "I'm Allie, by the way."

"Oh, it's perfectly alright." The girl would say. Matrix would sigh in relief. He did not want to make an extremely bad impression to the first person he met at Hogwarts, though it was not getting of a good start. "I'm Allie, by the way." The girl would introduce herself. “ An pleasure to meet you, Allie. I am Matrix Kaida“ Matrix would say with a nod and would turn away from her and look down the hall. He would stop after about two steps. “Uh.......” He would turn around again to face Allie, looking a little nervous. “ Might you know where we are?” Matrix had been wandering around that he supposed he had got himself lost. It indeed was a big school, so he would have to pay extra attention so he could get to classes on time in the future. He would give her a warm smile. From the corner of his eye, he could of sworn that a painting was shaking its head. He would sigh, he was such a klutz that even a painting disapproved of him. He sometimes wondered if he should of gone to Hogwarts. He was not used to this at all. Matrix would think about how he traveled the world, never staying in one place for to long.

The boy introduced himself as Matrix Kaida. Allie gave him a smile, then watched as he looked away, seemingly embarrassed as he asked, "Uh. . . might you know where we are?" It seemed he was lost, but Matrix still gave her a smile. Allie glanced around, looking at the different halls and portraits around them, consulting her memory.

"I am not completely sure, but I think we are. . ." she paused, then noticed the door a little ways down the corridor to her left. The Study Room door. "Oh! We're on the second floor. . . that's the Study Room over there," she said, pointing to the door she had seen. "I. . . I've been there quite a lot," she admitted sheepishly. "Probably a Ravenclaw thing, what house are you in?" Allie asked Matrix curiously. For once she really had no idea. . . he could have been in any of the houses, so she waited for his reply.

Allie thought back to the Sorting Ceremony. She didn't remember seeing Matrix, but there had been a lot of new first years this school year, so she might just have not been paying close enough attention. Maybe. . . a Gryffindor? Or Hufflepuff. . . or Slytherin. Allie laughed a little at herself. She had literally just listed all the houses besides her own, which she was pretty sure Matrix wasn't in. She turned back to Matrix with a smile on her face.

"Oh! We're on the second floor. . . that's the Study Room over there," Matrix would look at the study room. He could of sworn that he had not passed it coming here. Past it, he would see the ever changing staircase. Matrix think for a moment. He would not remember ever going up the stairs. He would sigh, if he had not met Allie, he might have wandered around for another hour! "I. . . I've been there quite a lot, probably a Ravenclaw thing, what house are you in?" Matrix had guessed her house before and was happy that he had got it right. "Oh, I am in Hufflepuff" Matrix would reply nodding. Even though he was wearing his yellow robes, Allie might have confused it with the Gryffindor's goldish color. There was no way that he could of ever made it into Gryffindor, he is not brave at all! He thought about the qualities of a Hufflepuff. Friendly and loyal, Matrix remembered. He never had friends before, so he did not know about that. "This sure is a big school. I'm not used to this at all!" Matrix would smile "So, are you enjoying Hogwarts so far?" Matrix asked curiously.

"Oh, Hufflepuff, nice!" Allie said, noticing that his robes had the yellow color of Hufflepuff on them. She hadn't even thought to look at them. . .

"This sure is a big school. I'm not used to this at all!" Matrix said. Allie nodded. She wasn't used to having to memorize the layout of a place this big, since she had barely ever left her home as a child. Luckily, Allie had a decent memory, so she could remember everything without having to think too hard. Also, she had been to certain floors much more than others, so she knew her way around them slightly better. The moving staircases did confuse her a lot though.

"I know what you mean," She looked around, noticing there were a bunch of the portraits looking at her and Matrix, probably since they were the only students in the hall. She waved at them, and a bunch of them quickly turned their attention to other things, like the ceilings and other paintings. Allie laughed, which echoed through the corridor, then continued talking to Matrix. "I didn't really leave my house too much, so I didn't have to memorize my way around anywhere but there. . . which was easy, seeing as it only had two floors and I walked through it every day." She joked.

When Matrix asked how she was liking Hogwarts, Allie's face lit up and her eyes sparkled, the way they did whenever she was excited or happy about something. "I absolutely love it here!" She exclaimed. "There is so many people, and so much to do and see, and we actually get to learn magic! Finally," she added with a sly grin. "I've been wanting to learn spells ever since I can remember, which is a long time. So when I got the letter saying I was accepted into Hogwarts, well, it was a dream come true for me." Pausing, she looked at the ground for a few seconds. "Sorry if I'm talking too much. . . how do you like it so far?" Allie asked, quickly turning the conversation away from herself.

Matrix would look at the painting that looked away and would laugh a little along with Allie. "I didn't really leave my house too much, so I didn't have to memorize my way around anywhere but there. Allie would say to him. “I kind of lived the opposite. Never really stayed in one place for a long time. Did not really even have a place to call home.” Matrix would say remembering the good times. His face would suddenly drain of color. “ Oh wait! Don’t get the wrong idea or anything.....I’m not homeless or something.” Matrix would chuckle a little.

"There is so many people, and so much to do and see, and we actually get to learn magic!” Allie would say. “ I guess your right! Magic IS pretty cool!” Matrix would nod. Hogwarts would be his first interaction with magic outside his father and a few magical creatures that he had seen. "I've been wanting to learn spells ever since I can remember, which is a long time.” She said. “I personally never wanted to learn spells in particular. But they are so cool, so might as well learn them while I am here!” Matrix would say. “ The main reason I am in Hogwarts is for the adventure!” Matrix would say with a mischievous smile. Allie would then ask him how he liked Hogwarts so far. “ It really is nice so far. A lot of fun to. But we do have a lot of homework!” Matrix would rub the back of his head with his hand and would laugh. “What class do you like the most so far?” Matrix would ask curiously.

Allie gave Matrix a kind smile as he quickly made sure to explain he wasn't homeless. "I won't, don't worry." she replied, then her thoughts switched to wondering what it had been like to never stay in one place for very long. She had lived her whole life in one house, and she had never known anything different.

“The main reason I am in Hogwarts is for the adventure!” After Matrix said that, Allie gave him a sideways look.

"Hmm. Are you sure it's not to learn magic?" She asked slyly. "I'm pretty sure that's the whole point of Hogwarts. . ." She made sure to laugh a little so he knew she was joking. Allie nodded when Matrix replied that they had a lot of homework. "I kind of like doing homework, so it isn't too bad for me," she explained, then added quickly, "Okay, I guess I REALLY like doing homework . . . I know it's kind of weird." She blushed slightly, her face turning a light shade of pink. Allie was someone who just enjoyed doing all her schoolwork. . . it was part of her personality. When Matrix asked what class she liked the most, Allie thought for a few moments and then said, "Well. . . I like Charms a lot. Same with Defense Against the Dark Arts." She shrugged, smiling a little more. "All of them, really. You?"

"Okay, I guess I REALLY like doing homework . . . I know it's kind of weird." Allie would say to him. “ It’s not weird at all” Matrix would give Allie a thumbs up “It shows you are on top of things. Nothing wrong with that.” Matrix would then give her a sly smile. “ Plus, now I know who I should go to if I ever have trouble with homework!”

"Well. . . I like Charms a lot. Same with Defense Against the Dark Arts." Allie would tell him when he asked about her favorite subjects. She would then ask him about his favorites. “ Gosh, this is a hard one” Matrix would think for a few seconds. “Probably Transfiguration and Defense Against the Dark Arts. But all the classes are fun!” Matrix would think for a moment. “ Are you doing any summer camps this year?” Matrix would ask curiously. He had seen a message regarding it somewhere. He was thinking of joining but was not sure which one. He thought the wizard chess sounded cool, but he did not know any spells yet. Though the week was coming to a close, he was sure that he could fit in something!

“It’s not weird at all, it shows you are on top of things. Nothing wrong with that.” Matrix said, in reply. Allie nodded. She was glad that Matrix saw it that way. . . no one else had ever said anything like that before. Glancing back up at Matrix, she caught the last part of his sentence and his mischievous grin and laughed. "Well, true enough. . . I do like helping with homework anyway, so. . ."

Matrix had to think for a little about what his favorite subject was, but then told her that he liked Transfiguration and Defense Against the Dark Arts, which she liked as well. "Oh, I like Transfiguration too, it's so. . ." she paused, thinking of the right word for it. "so fascinating that with magic we can change the different aspects about objects. Sometimes I wonder how Muggles do certain things without magic!"

"Are you doing any summer camps this year?" The Hufflepuff asked her, and she gave a small laugh.

"Well. . . summer still is quite far away, but I suppose I might consider signing up for one. . . I haven't thought about it very much." she admitted with a sheepish grin. "When I'm at school I tend to focus on my school work a little more. . . it's just something I do, though." Allie tilted her head slightly, wondering if Matrix was thinking of signing up for any.
