Hogwarts Summer Camp Chess Combat, Game 3

Adam rushed to step in front of the Durmstrang boy to his right as spells started flying across the board. He wasn't sure how much Nichlas could take, damage-wise, but it was still better to be safe than sorry. Adam was used to getting hit, and besides, he was only a bishop. While he obviously wanted to stay conscious for as long as possible, it wouldn't mean an immediate loss if the other team took him out. Even if it meant that he missed out on some of the action (at least for now), protecting their team's queen was top priority.

Their wasn't very much action to miss out on in the first round anyway. Most of the players had cast spells, but only one had hit its target — one from Adam's team, luckily. Nichlas had hit the other team's queen with a well-placed Incendio. Adam could still remember his first duel and how it had devolved into a firefight within two rounds. It wasn't the most creative of spells, but he supposed it got the job done.

Reminding himself that he was still in the middle of the game, Adam brought himself back to reality and took on a ready stance for whatever the White Team threw at them next.

As Oliver roared out his spell, launching a wicked Incendio Duo across the pitch, he looked to his right and noticed Dymphna moving forward. Distracted, he turned to look at her, lost in tranquil way of moving. As he did, he didn't even notice he had moved out of the way of an incoming fireball.

Kheanu being caught on fire and Oliver looked over at him, remembering Extingio would help him out.

Spells began flying the very moment the duel commenced, and Cecily once again recalled why she wasn't a dueller. She was comfortable around physical violence, not this long-distance fire-slinging. Sure, she usually had good luck avoiding projectiles coming her way-- a side effect of her Quidditch training-- but she was still pretty crap at the whole retaliation part.

Taking a deep breath, the blonde took one large step forward into the square diagonal from her, directly in front of Alexx. Lucky Alexx-- should could still be of use to their team, casting around Cecily's back, but Cecily would be taking the full force of any spell headed their way. But at least the Ravenclaw would be able to hit someone from this spot now, and every hit counted, especially as there was no way any of their team could get to the opposing Queen without first going through the Durmstrang boy who had stepped in front.

Cecily looked around, making sure her team was doing alright. It was only a few second into the game, but the opening loves had still been quite aggressive-- including the ever-delightful incendio. Cecily still hated that spell with a burning passion (haha), but she supposed the Durmstrang students wouldn't know about Hogwarts' rocky history with the spell. Luckily, though, her team appeared to be unscathed. Good start, good start.

primarily interacting with Team White and Nichlas Forsberg.
If dialogue is in italics, Maksim is speaking in Russian.
Maksim rolled his eyes overdramatically as Kheanu bantered with him, scoffing incredulously, "You have been at Durmstrang for four years and you still refuse to speak Russian. I don't know why I even try!" But still, although his words seemed harsh, he smiled kindly at his well-dressed classmate— there was no planet on which he'd scold or reprimand a boy as beautiful as Kheanu! Everyone, Maksim reasoned, deserved the utmost respect, regardless of whether or not they were friends. Everyone but Alexei, but there were also exceptions.

His gaze still lingered on Kheanu as the game started, and instinctively, he stepped on front of him to shield him. Alas, he wasn't quick enough, and he could feel his heart plummet into his stomach as he realized that Forsberg had hit Kheanu with a fire-making spell. Before he could stop himself, Maksim screamed in horror. "Kheanu!" he shouted, whirling around to stare at the boy wide-eyed. "I- I'm- Good God!" Fire? Fire? Max had thought that this would be a humane duel— a few flipendos, some tickling spells, maybe even a few hexes and jinxes. But fire... that was cruel! Completely at a loss for words, Maksim turned his gaze upon Nichlas. "Watch your back, Forsberg! You're gonna pay!"

Turning to his teammates, he said solemnly, "We have to win. Let us perspire!" He meant to say persevere, of course, but he wasn't perfect. At least he was well-intentioned, right?

Interacting with Maksim
Everything happened so fast, and Kheanu was so deep into the zone—into the intensity of the fight—that he didn't even notice that he was on fire 'til Maksim exclaimed his way. And even then, he still didn't fully quite take it in—the game only just started, and things were only starting to heat up.

Quite literally, at that.

Shaking his head at the boy, Kheanu stated, "It's nothing I can't 'andle. It's just a Versace shirt." The focus never left his stance and movement as he ignored his burning shirt in favor of continuing the game. "Inutile piangere sul latte versato. No use crying over spilled milk, darling." He would say as he watched Maksim express his displeasure at the opposite team. "It 'appened but there's still the next round. Still, gracie [thank you]." Aiming a bright smile the boy's way in consolation, Kheanu prepared himself for the next round.

Watching everyone make their moves brought an anticipating smile to the boys face as he first watched his team step forward, the bishop to his left would step ahead of him and was ready to act as a shield. It seemed more perfect than he could have imagined as they guy looked quite tough and could take a couple hits if necessary, but he also seemed to have a minimum of agility so he hoped that it would not get to that. He watched as Kheanu struggled to launch his first spell that he had wanted to haul towards him, which gave him a opportunity to dazzle him with a cocky smirk. "Nervous?", he would say smugly as he cast his own spell, the very same with the difference that he would succeed and hit the other Durmstrang student right away making the corner of his mouth curl up in a triumphant smirk.

It wouldn't seem that easy from now on, similar to his team the white team's queen would now also have a meat shield which was quite a shame but just a little hindrance on the way to victory. 'Why not spice things up a little?', he wondered silently as he tightened his hold on his wand again, readying himself for what was to come. No one from his team has taken damage so far which turned out to be quite the good thing, considering that Kheanu would now be bothered by a flickering flame. It was small and would most likely extinguish soon, but he would take that small victory over the other guy anyday. Ella would kill him if he were to permanently scar Maksim, but there were only so many options in a game of chess and he could handle Ella bickering at him.

Round Two
10th of July 2020, around 02:00pm
Chess Combat, Game THREE

Some of the contestants gave the impression that a bit hesitant to cast more spells, it seemed they had underestimated what this game entailed. Maybe they had expected more of a game than a duel out of this duelling game. Still, no one froze up properly, so that was good.

Mr. Harringtom seemed to be attempting an evasive action though no spell was cast his way. Mr. Hart was apparently quite agile, managing to dodge out of a spell's path and casting his own at the same time. As always, well, as always in student duels it seemed, a lot of Fire-Making Spells were bandied about and thrown around. Two of them connected with their intended targets – one of the foreign students [Maksim] and Miss Quinn respectively, while Miss Campbell accidentally managed to hit herself when her spell backfired. Fortunately for her, unlike with the other two, the flames of her Incendio did not take root. Miss Teague and the apparently Italian speaking Queen [Kheanu] of Team White were also less fortunate, as her attempt of extinguishing the flames eating at his shirt made them flare up instead before they dissipated. It did not deter the boy from moving to another square, however.

Okay, so it wasn't off to a bad start, but it certainly wasn't a good one. Considering, y'know, that she was on fire. Again. For the nth time in her Hogwarts career. Why wasn't fire banned at this school again?

Oliver, although looking rather ridiculous in his boxy, cardboard armor, packed a punch in his spells, and Cecily was his prime target. Her attempt to dodge was not quite quick enough as the wild flames from Oliver's incendio connected with her sleeve, lighting her shirt with glowing orange and yellow.

Not only was she burning, but the carefully aimed flipendo she had sent towards the Durmstrang boy diagonal from her had also gone wide, leaving Cecily quickly losing health with nothing to show for it. God, she was not made for dueling. How had she gotten herself into this? Every single time, she thought it would be fun. And yet, every single time, she regretted all of her life choices leading up to this moment. She tightened her grip on her wand, just ready to get this over with. Had they won yet?

This time he made Maksim dance, he could see his attempt to dodge out of the way as if he had been trying to foretell his spell and perhaps he did, but it certainly did not do all that much because he was still hit by the fire spell. Like on Kheanu earlier a little flame began to burn on him, marking him with a scorch mark and perhaps Nichlas should have felt some sort of remorse but this duel just fired him up even more. It amused him to see that a blonde girl's attempt to extinguish the fire on Kheanu backfired and only did more damage than necessary, it certainly had looked a little painful.

Sadly this time around it was not only their team that had to take some damage, two members of the black team had taken some damage but after taking a glance at both of them he was quick to realize that the two girls should be able to suck it up and move on, at least for now he would not have to be concerned about his teams capabilities. Momentarily his eyes would lock on that small flame that adorned Maksim and the ever so smug smile found its way onto Nichlas's face again. This little game certainly had been more fun than he had at first expected it to be.
