Tent Welcome to Summer Camp! Open Closed

Jess grinned at Annie's reassurance that they'd get the hang of things quite quickly, and looked up as she heard someone clear her throat at the entrance of the tent. "Hey everyone! Pardon my interruption. I'm Felicia by the way." the girl sang out, and Jess had to swiftly look down to hide the laugh that had risen in her throat at the girl's excitement. It wasn't exactly what Jess had been expecting, especially not after meeting Callista and Annie. Figuring that it would probably be nice to have someone so...peppy sharing the tent with them, Jess looked up at the girl and smiled warmly, her eyes glistening with excitement. Now that she had actually spoken to two of her bunkmates and had seen that they weren't mean and likely to ruin the summer for her, she felt way more comfortable and her nervousness had started to slowly ease away.
She stared at Callista as the girl nervously introduced herself, and made a mental promise to herself that she would try to talk to her more later and try to help her feel more comfortable here. After all, if Jess was trying to help someone else overcome their nervousness, she couldn't focus on the butterflies beating away in her own stomach. "I'm Jess," she said as Callista finished introducing herself. She glanced at Annie as the prefect introduced herself and asked about their parents. "I'm Muggle born," said Jess, determined to be the first one to answer this time. "And I was born in New York, but we moved to England a couple of years ago, so...yeah, I'm here now." She gave a nervous chuckle, wondering if she had said too much and if anyone actually cared.

Callista smiled a little at the prefect’s reassurance. She felt Jess’ eyes trained on her as she introduced herself and felt a little uncomfortable. She glanced up a little and met Jess’ gaze, then looked away. She had seen kindness there, and excitement. Maybe this won’t be so bad? she thought to herself hopefully.

Annie asked them a question about their parentage, and Callista was a little surprised. After all, it wasn’t something people usually started a conversation with. Callista listened as Jess introduced herself and told them about her history. She wondered how young the girl had been when she had moved.

“That’s interesting,” Callista said softly, as if she was talking to herself. “I’ve never been to New York.”
Then in a voice that was only the tiniest bit louder, so small of a difference that only the most perceptive would have noticed, “I’m Muggle-born as well. I was born in Japan, and moved here when I was three.”

She shifted her gaze from the floor to the ceiling, watching the pretty fairy lights and started daydreaming. She thought about Aurora and her mother, wondering whether they were thinking about her. Then she thought about her father, and Artemis Fowl... Then she started thinking about the sky, the planets, how small she really was... and then she started wondering what a white hole was (she had seen something about it in one of her books, but she didn’t know what it was). She loved daydreaming. But no one really understood her when she explained her train of thought.

A delighted chuckle escaped Felicia's lips as the other girls introduced themselves. She made mental notes to help take in the whole summer camp experience.

Callista was immensely shy, as she barely made eye contact as she spoke. Felicia preferred for others to be more direct. Otherwise, everyday interactions would be quite bland. However, Callista seemed rather sweet, so Felicia hoped that more of that would shine through in the next couple of days. Jess appeared to be much more comfortable and eager to engage in conversations. Annie definitely was the most thoughtful of the group. It was nice having an older student around who knew how things were run for the most part. Hopefully, since there was a prefect around, their group wouldn't be distracted by mischief.

As Annie posed an ice-breaker question, Felicia's eye narrowed at the mention of blood status. Her family never really talked much about their heritage so she didn't give it much thought. The question made her wonder what the general sentiment at Hogwarts about blood purity. She waited for the others to respond in order to get a sense of how much to share.

"I'm Muggle born and I was born in New York, but we moved to England a couple of years ago." Jess replied.

Soon after, Felicia heard Callista mumbling softly.
"I’m Muggle...as well. I...Japan, and moved here when..." She could barely hear her but she inferred enough to get the gist of what she was saying.

Felicia gathered her thoughts and crafted her own response.

"Wow! So you both have ties to other places. I've never been outside of the UK, but I hope to one day get to see many different places and meet people from all over the world. As for me, I am half-blood. My family doesn't really talk much about it though. My parents are both graduates from the Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts so they've raised me to be free spirited like them and accepting of all people.

Talking about her parents brought up a longing feeling. Her parents were performing on tour most of the time, so she was used to them not being around. Nevertheless, she was proud that they instilled in her a sense of empathy and respect for others.

As Jess finished speaking, she heard Callista mutter something softly. She wasn't quite sure what it had been, as the girl had been speaking too quietly for Jess to properly hear her, but she gathered that it was something along the lines of the girl never having been to New York. Jess had never been to Japan, either, so she figured it could be fun for her and Callista to talk about that later on. Although, the girl had said that she had only been three when she moved, so Jess wasn't sure how much she actually remembered from her time in Japan.

Felicia's chuckle caught Jess off guard, and she jumped a bit. Okay, she thought to herself. I mean... I guess it's good that she shows her emotions so clearly like that? Kind of scary, though... As she spoke, Jess's eyes widened. She wondered what it must have been like for the girl, growing up with magical parents. And... did she say the Wizarding Academy of Dramatic Arts? Fascinating. Idly, Jess mused over whether wizarding performances differed from Muggle ones. After all, it seemed a waste to have all that magical ability and not use it to enhance their productions and make things more interesting. She was glad that Felicia said she accepted everyone, though, as Jess really didn't want to be stuck in a tent with someone who didn't like her over something she couldn't even control. Was her being a Muggle-born going to be a problem in Hogwarts, though? She definitely hoped not. It'll be okay, Jess reassured herself. Most people won't care about my blood status, just like Felicia doesn't. And besides, I'm sure there'll be loads of other Muggle-borns there... And yet, Jess couldn't shake the worry that had started to expand in her stomach at the thought of being bullied just for having parents who weren't wizards like the rest of the Hogwarts students.

"What about you, Annie?" Jess asked, forcing herself out of her newly-miserable thoughts. "What's your family like?"
