First Feelings

New school, new friends...well, no new friends just yet, but you get the idea. Cedar wasn't sure what to think of Hogwarts. It was amazing and huge and mysterious, but he didn't seem to connect well with the other students. They were all so obsessed with "following the rules" and all that rot. And if there was anyone who agreed with him on rule breaking, they were keeping awfully quiet about it.

The library wasn't really a place that fit Cedar but it was definitely the quietest and the best to think in, and it might also be a sign that his older sister Miranda's Ravenclaw nature was rubbing off on him. So. Maybe not the best sign. After all, who would want to be stuck reading books all day? You could learn so much more with some hands-on experience. Why trust a book, since that never, never worked out well. Cedar's past showed that well enough. If Miranda hadn't trusted that stupid book...

Well, now was no time to dwell on the past. What's done was done, for better or worse (worse, in his case).

Sighing, he turned to the shelves and grabbed a random book, flipping it open to an equally random page. His eyes scanned the mass of words, not really understanding. Cedar just needed something to take his mind off of...other things.

Taylynn turned the page of her book. She heard some noise across the room and looked up. It was a boy whom she has never met before. Taylynn watched the boy walk over to the book shelf, grab a book, and start reading it. She didn't want the boy to catch her staring at him, so she went back to reading her book.

After a few minutes of trying to read Taylynn gave up on trying to read because all she could think about was that mysterious boy. What was his name? Was he new here? Does he have any friends? Is he in need of a friend? So many questions kept popping into Taylynn's head.

Taylynn didn't have any friends yet because she was new. She wanted to find the right type of people to be friends with. Taylynn wanted to go over and talk to him, but she didn't want to interrupt his reading. She looked up at the boy again who was still reading. Taylynn stood up slowly and walked over to the boy careful not to make any loud noises to startle the boy.

"Hi. I'm Taylynn," she said to him smiling. "Are you new here like me?"

"Hi. I'm Taylynn. Are you new here like me?"

Cedar jumped slightly at the sound of the unfamiliar voice and almost dropped his book. He spun around only to see a beautiful girl with shining brown hair and a kind smile.

"H-hey," he replied after a moment's hesitation. "I'm Cedar. And yeah, I'm new here too." He grinned suddenly, wondering if maybe he could make a friend.

Glad to be rid of it, he casually put the book back on the shelf and turned back to face her. "Although, my sister isn't, but I can't find her anywhere. She disappeared sometime this morning during breakfast in the Great Hall," leaving Cedar feeling quite disgruntled. Sure, he logically knew that Miranda had friends of her own...but still. After so many years of always being together, it felt really strange for the siblings to be apart.

"So what are you doing in here?" Cedar asked, desperate for something to talk about. He'd always acted flustered around pretty girls, and Taylynn was definitely one of those. "Um, do you come here often?"

He winced, realizing how disconnected his questions were. Cedar had never been all that eloquent, but this was a new low.

"H-hey I'm Cedar. And yeah, I'm new here too." He said putting his book away.

"Although, my sister isn't, but I can't find her anywhere. She disappeared sometime this morning during breakfast in the Great Hall."He said in a somewhat angry tone.

"I'm sure you will see her later today." Taylynn said trying to comfort him.

"So, what are you doing here? Do you come here often?" Cedar said quickly.

"Well, I came here to read my book. I try coming in the Library at least once a day." She said making eye contact with him. Taylynn could tell he was nervous, but she didn't understand why.

"So.. what book were you just reading; I couldn't help but notice you reading a book across the room from where I sat in the chair." Taylynn pointed to the chair. She wasn't exactly good at talking to cute boys, let alone a boy. Taylynn looked down at her feet breaking their eye contact, but she could feel him still staring at her.

Taylynn was trying to think about every conversation she had with a boy. She desperately wanted a friend and she didn't want to scare Cedar off.

Taylynn started fidgeting with her hands without even knowing it. She loved talking to people, but for some reason she just couldn't say a lot like she usually did. Taylynn didn't get how it was easy for her to talk to her brothers, but not Cedar. She hoped that he couldn't tell that he made her nervous.

She looked up at him again and grinned from ear to ear. Taylynn ran her hand through her hair without breaking their eye contact.
