Failure to Fold
"Original Origami" Errand on May 10th, 2020, with @Thomas Lestrange, @[Percival Rainwood, @Hanako Tone, and me!
Jack was no stranger to origami. He had learned and memorized how to make a few things in his muggle school, but quickly grown bored of how simple and easy the paper things were to make if one understood how to properly and precisely follow instructions. It was like baking a cake or creating a potion; to Jack, there was no creativity necessary. In fact, the less creativity and critical thinking one did, the better the result usually ended up being.
Nevertheless, when the Slytherin first year saw the stacks of brightly-colored paper on tables in the Great Hall, he couldn't help feel overwhelmed with a wave of nostalgia. More intriguing yet was the fact that some enchantments seemed to have allowed the paper creatures to come to life. Jack wondered to what extent they did so and for how long. Pausing to browse the various paper animal instructions, he decided to pick the most complex-seeming tutorial - the one regarding how to make a dragon.
It amused Jack that the particular version depicted was a bipedal dragon, as most of the ones the Welsh boy had read about existing in the wizarding world were quadrupedal. However, he assumed the origami techniques must have been developed by muggles which made it somewhat ironic that wizard and witch students were putting them to use. That didn't seem to take any of the fun out of it for his schoolmates, though, whether they were aware of this high probability or not.
As the redhead snatched up a two-sided colored square of origami paper - one side vermillion while the other was a yellow-gold - he inspected the instructions. It mildly annoyed him to note that the dragon instructions, while being some of the longest and most complex, failed to identify the front and back of the paper like some of the other tutorials did. Without knowing what side was what, the difficulty would be increased, but Jack supposed that would just add to the challenge which should have made it more interesting for someone like him.
Two-sided... The term reminded him of a certain housemate of his he had been meaning to talk to recently. He'd even owled him to ask if he could meet him to talk during or after a meal, but he wasn't sure if or when Thomas would be coming at all. If he did, though, perhaps doing something with his hands like origami was a better choice of what to multitask with than to try to eat and talk at the same time.
While working, Jack also noticed Percival Rainwood from his dorm and waved him over. What he didn't see was Hanako notice this and promptly come over as well, looking none too happy about Jack having attempted to steal his Flower Prince's attention away from him. Rather than be annoyed by this, the redhead found himself delighted. The more the merrier, especially if Thomas really ended up joining them after all.
A little fold there, a crimp here, a turn there...as he worked, he sneered at his dorm mates. "Rainwood. Tone," the boy greeted, nodding to each of the others in turn. "Care to sit down and join me in making some origami? Since this art originates in Japan from what I know and Tone is Japanese, maybe he could teach us a thing or two about it." He pushed a stack of paper closer to the other boys. "Or maybe all he knows how to do is create paper flower crowns."
The wings of his dragon looked good to him thus far...but the head made it look like a pterodactyl. He smiled softly at the idea, wondering who came up with origami and who decided when each piece was complete enough to be finished. How did they even get to make up the first steps to the folds in the first place? How did they know what they would want to make and how said folds would bring them closer to said idea with each new word?
That was kind of pointless to think about now unless he wanted to make his own origami creatures and instructions from scratch. As he was just trying to learn something new while keeping bust, however, he saw no reason to dwell on such a topic. Barely bothering to look up at his dorm mates in case he made either of them nervous, Jack attempted to address them without looking up from his folding.
"...What do either of you know or think about Thomas LeStrange? Or Erin Ryan, for that matter?"
Out the corner of his eye, he saw a few other finished paper dragons who were enchanted to, evidently, breathe flame as real dragons did. Who had thought that would have been a good idea? Any flame, no matter how small, was dangerous and could grow. Ruka knew and was example enough of that fact.
What, then, had Nico been thinking in allowing such dangers to potentially go flying around flaming, setting fire to other paper creatures, clothes, hair, and anything else that go in their way? Had the prefect not considered the possibility, or was she simply more prepared than he realized? Only time would tell, it seemed.
Oh, yes...Nico had seemed so fascinated with the Japanese culture, from her song choice at the talent show to now this origami crafting errand, that Jack was curious as to what got her interested in those things in the first place. He kept meaning to ask her but forgot. Perhaps, once he was finished with making his little paper dragon, the creature could be useful instead of destructive like all his fellows and maybe deliver Nico his message...?

Failure to Fold
Making : Lion Origami
w/c: 1105
Heh. “ I’ll have you know, my crafting skills don’t just stop at paper flower crowns. I’m confident in my talent in the arts of Origami folding, but it’s only because it seemed fun to do when I was younger. “ Hesitantly, he sat down and grabbed a sheet of origami paper from the stack that Burnett pushed towards them.
Eyeing the dragon origami Burnett had managed to make do far, he smiled at the oddly shaped head he accidentally created. “ I guess it wasn’t yours, from the shape of his head, huh? Or are you going for a specific species of dragons? One with a long head from what I see~”
He honestly did not plan to participate in this origami errand. It was not because he wasn’t good with it, it was actually the complete opposite. In the past, origamis were something he was extremely fond of. Back in the days where he was too short to reach the gardening tools in the shed or too weak to hold the broom properly, origamis were the things he found himself spending hours on end.
At least now, he could see why there was some sort of fascination about making origamis. Personally he thought of them as something similar to gardening ( which was no doubt his go-to activities if he ever needed a stress reliever ). Gardening was something you could never rush. It wasn’t a tedious equation to figure out or something that required much brain power apart from the basics of gardening. Once he was used to it, it soon became an activity that gave him nothing just serene comfort. Just relishing in the earthy smell of plants, the sensation of dirt on his hands, and the consoling sounds of snips and digs from the tools he was using.
Definitely not a tedious equation to figure out. Perhaps, it was just his personality to enjoy things that didn’t require much brainpower. That would honestly make so much sense.
Although he grew out of his origami phase after a while, as he flattened the origami paper in his hands and started out his basic line measurements, it all came rushing back to him. He was hit by a strong storm of nostalgia for a second, unable to contain the small genuine smile on his child-like face.
But nostalgia aside, he wasn’t really planning to come here. He was actually quite avoidant of it. Origami was something of his past so he didn’t really see the point in participating it. Points? Maybe, but he was probably one of the last people in Slytherin who would actually care about gaining glory for his house.
But of course, Burnett just had to step in and gain Rainwoods attention. He wasn’t jealous, he tried to tell himself. It was just annoying to see someone like Burnett or anything that breathes to steal Rainwood away when Hanako was definitely going to need him for something else.
Like…talk about...serious matters or something. Yes, serious matters!
Very very serious matters that Percy needs to attend to. So having him swept away by Burnett is a no-no.
Besides, what if Burnett decided to gossip to Rainwod about Hanako? Burnett seemed a bit higher than something small like that, but from the encounters he had with the ginger, he hasn’t really proven himself a kind, trustworthy fella in Hanako’s eyes. And he was fairly certain that that was what his red-haired dorm member was going for.
Hanako stood by what he thought about Rainwood leaving him eventually for better friends. And no doubt, Burnett could somewhat be a decent-ish companion for Rainwood. But he was not going to stand by and let Burnett speed up his leaving process. Nope. Therefore, his presence at this table, making a lion origami while keeping an ear out for whatever Burnett has to say.
“ Thomas Lestrange….” he was folding a bit of the head of the lion, eyes still focused on the origami “ Erin Ryan….-” he abruptly stopped his paper folding, looking up to Burnett with quizzical eyes.
“ Wasn’t Lestrange the one in the dorm battles? One of the very few prisoners we had? The one less cute than the other one. At least, that's how I remembered him? “ His playful tone made it a bit difficult to tell if he was actually joking about the cute part or not. For all they knew, he could just be adding an unnecessary insult to someone he doesn’t even know much about.
A very Hanako thing to do.
“ Ryan well…” he made a dramatic deep thinking face, his fist pressing against his chin. “ She’s a senior that screamed quite a lot at the Dormbattles “ he stated, shifting back to his almost complete lion origami. It occurred to him that the dormbattles has forced him to get to know his housemates, weather that was good or not.“ And I assumed she was a girlfriend of yours with you two flirting and all. Is she really? ” The topic of love would not be something Hanako would've chosen to talk about with Burnett because of that ' love potion accident '. But he was proud to know that he was over it, he'd like to believe.
He held up the lion to the sky for a few seconds, as if seeing it in a better light could make it nicer. Flirting, meant her calling Burnett ‘ honey ‘ right before the dorm battle started. But honestly, he could not care less about Burnett’s romantic affairs with an older senior. He only found it odd that someone with so many issues with keeping relationships would get into a relationship himself.
“ Why the sudden topic? Are they that interesting that you are interested in knowing their popularity among us? If you decided to spill tea on them, then we’d be delighted to hear about them~”
Once again, that playfully childish voice. Although, with the amount of focus he’s putting on his almost finished origami, it looked like he wasn’t all that serious about knowing about other people.
As he folded the tail for the last tail, his face broke out in a large grin. “ Done ~”. Using the art supplies they were given, he added two button eyes, a nose, and a pair of whiskers. Just like the tutorial.
He then placed the lion, who perfectly sat in the middle of their table to be shown off. A part of him regretted it a bit as he just remembered Burnett was making a dragon origami that could breathe fire.

Failure to Fold
Percival didn't know much about this whole origami thing. His parents never encouraged the art of folding paper. Instead, they encouraged things they thought would serve him well in the future.
Though he was still confused on his piano was supposed to help him. Percival walked beside Hana as the two entered the Great Hall.
His eyes widened as he saw the amount of paper on the tables. His eyes flicked from paper to paper. Taking in the sight of the intricate patterns of some.
Percival felt like a kid in the candy shop. Though he had no clue what he wanted or how to go about starting to figure that out.
The boy silently hoped that there would be instructions on how to make the origami. Unlike his friend, Percival was not confident in his skills to make the little origami.
Percival continued to walk further into the Great Hall as he looked for a table. His eyes caught on Jack, the boy from his dorm, waving for him to come over. The boy was completely oblivious to the jealous nature that Hanako was most likely experiencing.
Instead, Percival held up his hand, to let Jack know he had seen him, and even gave him an easy smile as he walked forward.
Percival didn't know if he exactly appreciated the other boy's use of his last name. It just seemed so formal to only call someone by their last name. Especially when the kid calling him by his last name was not a Pureblood.
Instead of bringing it up the boy decided to greet the boy in the same manner. "Hey, Burnett." he greeted. The boy sat down at the table with ease. It was nice not having to find an empty table for him and Hana to sit out. Especially, since the Great Hall was fairly packed at the moment.
Percival picked up the directions for the snake origami. "Wow this looks fairly complicated." he said with a nervous smile. Percival could not help the smile that crossed his face as the boy sent a small jab at Hana. The boy was glad that Hana spoke up about his knowledge on the subject of Origami.
"Really Hana? Is it just like your rock skipping ability? he asked. Reminding the other of the time he had failed skipping the rock after he had gloated about his ability.
The boy lightly elbowed the other to let him only know that he was only joking to the other. "It's good you know what you are doing. I sadly have never made an origami." he said with a grin.
He smirked as the other pointed out the weirdly shaped dragon head of the other boy. "It'll probably be better then what I could make." he said with a small snicker.
Percival decided then to grab a sheet of green origami paper that he thought would suit his little snake origami and went to work folding. He folded the two opposite corners together. Before bending the two sides to meet in the middle.
His gaze glanced up towards Jack away from his work as the other began to speak. Percival felt a small frown cross his face as he thought of the two names for a bit.
Percival had never been very good with names, and he wasn't able to figure out who Erin Ryan was. The boy looked down at his work and completed the third step. "LeStrange? Isn't that the kid who was held back a year?" he asked.
"As for Erin, I cannot say that I know them." he said as he finished up to step four of his origami. Percival was interested to know what Jack was going to say about the pair.
The origami looked more like a kite rather than a snake, and he picked up the origami instructions to get a better look at them. Step 5 and step 6 looked fairly daunting, and he was not very sure if he could complete it.
Percival finished step 5 fairly easily, and he could not help but feel proud of himself.
Percival finished step 6 just as Hana finished. The step had been one of the more daunting steps, and have caused him to slow down to almost a crawl. His gaze snapped to Hana in surprise as the other announced he had finished. "How!?" he said completely lacking the words to best display his surprise.
The boy was not so sure if he wanted to listen to Jack to gossip about the pair. Though he was not one to stop him if he ended up doing so.
Percival finished step 7 and step 8 fairly quickly. The two steps only involved the head of the snake. With a grin, he looked at his new snake.
The origami was far from perfect, and it had creases where the boy had to start over. Though Percival could not be more than happy. Percival picked up his quill and ink from his bag, and put them on the table in front of him.
Percival dipped the quill into the ink, and drew on a pair of eyes for his little snake. "Look." he said showing both Jack and Hana his little snake. Percival was glad he had chosen a fairly simple origami, and was certain if he had chosen a difficult one he would have not succeded even finishing.

Failure to Fold
The most traveled places in this vast castle were the least traveled for Thomas. He would not buy into the hype of the group activities where others might. His favorite activity was walking, whether it be away from others, or the many conflicts embedded in the deep recesses of his mind. To be physically busy would at least play a part in subduing the many concerns. Sourced from his connections to the forbidden occupants, the ever growing strained relationship with his mother, or the repercussions from acting selfishly.
One place he has no choice but to travel, the great hall. Not to say the boy hasn’t missed meals before, but the sustenance received from a bout in the woods made him exceedingly grateful for the wonderful assortments provided at mealtimes. It was one of the few times of day he would look forward to, assuming he could find a seat far enough from blathering idiocy. Safe to say, if Thomas had the rare muggle artifact known as headphones, they would be used more often than not.
The hall buzzed this afternoon with a scheduled activity. The art of folding paper to form a decorative shape, otherwise known as origami. Thomas could be seen near the end of the Slytherin table, considerably distanced from his peers. For those that peered in his direction, a gloomy visual was provided as he brought the spoon to his lips with a sullen expression. A product of his typically withdrawn demeanor, apparently today he was emulating Oliver Twist.
Thomas dabbed the remnants of broth with a slice of bread to finish his meal. With a glance to the rear, he twisted his frame, pushing off the wooden seat to gain footing. He collected what things he arrived with, a quill, some parchment, and a book: Magical Theory. He had no intention to read it, just an option of escape had any unwanted company attempted to engage him. As he traveled through the aisles, past the various Slytherin students, he caught a group not engaging him directly, but he was a topic, denoted by hearing an unfamiliar voice[Percival] say his surname.
It was easy to make unfavorable assumptions when his icy blue eyes fell upon the boy’s company. Seated with the chatter fox, who knew far more than most. At a moment of weakness, Thomas elected to confide in the boy. Even though there have been no signs of Burnett betraying his trust, hearing his name tossed around did not paint a beneficial picture. The two others, mostly insignificant to Thomas, may have seen them here or there around the castle, but he knew nothing past the visual recollection. Just like all others, they were useless until proven otherwise.
Following the ball, it was unavoidable. The witnesses would surely speculate why Thomas chose to help an older Ravenclaw who was publicly deemed an outlaw. He prepared himself for the repercussions, to be disowned by his peers, most notably a group he had shared information with a week prior. His plan? Ignorance. Additionally to ignore any who opted to antagonize him. Leading to an inclination to storm past the three boys without a word. But Fox knew too much, establishing the basis of their discussion was a worthy pursuit.
Thomas set his book atop the table, hands pressing downward to lower his frame, but still standing. He eyed each boy one at a time, starting with the brown-eyed Japanese boy, who looked like he’d feel guilty asking a host where the bathroom is. Thomas eyed the paper lion with a quirked brow. “Wrong table?” Secondly, the boy with black eyes and dirty blond hair, who looked as if he may yell at you if you touched his hair. He addressed this boy in a quizzical tone. “Do I know you?” Since his mention of the name Lestrange initiated his approach. Lastly, he looked to the fox. “Burnett.” He flaunted the usage of his real name, given the boy’s reluctance to give it to him. “How’s your chest?”

Failure to Fold
The formality surrounding one's last name was precisely why Jack preferred to use last names in general as opposed to first ones. In Jack's opinion, to call others by their first name suggested a casual intimacy he didn't want anyone mistaking him to have for anyone else. It was also why his preference of being addressed was by his own last name as Percival had chosen to use. However, with two Percivals occupying their Severus Snape Dormitory, the use of last names also helped to clarify which of the two boys was being referred to.
There had been a few exceptions to this during the year. One was for those who requested being called by nicknames instead, such as Selim who went by 'Fangs' and Demetrius who went by 'Flash'. The other time Jack had made an exception, however, was when he'd been mistaken for Erin's beloved boyfriend, Parce, and it had only seemed natural for him to refer to Erin and Thomas by their first names while playing the part.
That was over now, though. After the Blossom Ball, the carriage had turned back into a pumpkin. Erin was Ryan. And Thomas was LeStrange.
It was these thoughts on which Jack dwelled as he continued to fold his dragon, listening quietly, for the most part, to the banter between Percival and Hanako. One comment from the dirty blonde, however, peaked Jack's interest and caused him to look over with a smirk.
"Ooh, rock-skipping?" he echoed Percival with obvious amusement. "Sounds like my kind of story." Namely, the 'find-another-thing-to-tease-Hanako-about' kind. "What'd he do?"
After Percival praised Hanako and remarked that Jack's dragon head would probably be better than what he could make, the redhead reached over to flick the other boy's forehead with his forefinger and thumb.
"Hey," he warned. "No self-degrading. Tone degrades us enough all on his own."
Smirking a bit as well, he looked at the noiret, observing a lion rapidly take shape under his dexterous fingers. To Jack's surprise, Hanako was repeating the names he'd mentioned, demonstrating that he was paying more attention to what the redhead had said than Jack had assumed he would.
When the Japanese boy asked if LeStrange had been one of the prisoners they'd acquired during the Dorm Battles, the Welsh one sneered.
"Oh, that's right. Yes, he was one," Jack confirmed. "The second one you guys caught." The jab about Thomas being less cute, however, inspired Jack to reach over and pinch Hanako's cheek.
"Cuteness is in the eye of the beholder. But come on - who could be cuter than you, Hana-hime?" he gushed with a sickeningly sweet smile, tugging on the bit of his peer's face that he had pinched as if to stretch it out.
The more Hanako spoke, though, the more Jack found himself impressed by the eccentric flower-crown maker. He hadn't realized that Hanako had ever bothered to learn the names of other students in the first place, even during the Dorm Battle, let alone that he remembered them still. The flamboyant fellow had always struck the redhead as someone who didn't really bother to pay much attention to anyone but himself (or Percival, it seemed, but Jack didn't really count him since he figured Hanako thought of him as his anyway).
Jack made a mental note not to underestimate Hanako in the future in the case they ever ended up opposing each other for more serious than they had thus far. There hadn't been much else in their prior clashes that had really given the Welsh boy a reason to deem Hanako a threat to him in any way yet, but of course that didn't mean he wasn't or wouldn't become one eventually.
"Due to the fact that Ryan is part Veela and Veela are said to have voices like Ancient Greek sirens or harpies, might be why she has a tendency to scream a lot," the hazel-eyed boy chuckled softly. "Then again...maybe she just likes screaming, passionate as she is. I hear it makes some people feel alive."
At the question about whether the older Slytherin was really his girlfriend or not, Jack's smile tightened and turned bitter. He refocused his attention on his partly-folded dragon.
"Not since the Blossom Ball," he answered in neutral tones. "Truth be told, I just happened to look a lot like a boy she likes to consider her boyfriend. It seemed dangerous to deny that, so I decided to play along instead. At least until the ball, where and when she found out the truth. So, not to worry; you won't find her flirting with me anymore."
Ordinarily, Jack might have teased Hanako a bit by asking why he wanted to know and suggesting that, perhaps, it might have been because he was jealous. Due to the fact that it was Hanako he was talking to, though - Hanako, the very same boy who had become obsessed with Jack after a whiff of the Valentine's Day card from Vladimir that had been soaked in Amortentia - he didn't feel entirely comfortable doing so. Though it would have been difficult to get him to admit it, the incident still traumatized the first year; enough to the point that he wasn't willing to mess with love potions for fun ever again if he could help it.
It was a good thing the Japanese boy decided against mentioning the peculiarity of how Jack, who had so many issues regarding relationships, got into one himself. If he'd brought up the notion, he might have touched a nerve, which, despite being a very Hanako thing to do, could have proved disasterous for the mischevious snake. Though poking and prodding at others seemed to be a favored pasttime of the noiret's, the subject was probably one of the worst possible sore spots to bring up with one of the least pleasant people to argue with in what might have been the entire school.
The question asked instead, though - about why Jack had chosen to ask about Ryan and LeStrange specifically - was something easily handled.
"Yes, they are intriguing," the redhead replied, pausing to check if he had done a fold wrong. "To me, anyway. But Tone, please." He looked up to smirk at his dorm mate. "You must know well enough by now that I don't 'spill tea' so freely. I trade it."
He nodded slowly in quiet admiration of Hanako's lion, staring at it contemplatively for a moment before noticing Percival had asked a question about LeStrange.
"Yes...He's the one who was held back a year," Jack confirmed, going back to his nearly-finished dragon, turning it this way and that. "I heard something about it being because he fell into a lake last year and wasn't seen again until he came into the Slytherin Common Room early this year, soaked and stinking of fish." Double-checking the dragon origami instructions, Jack undid a fold to recall how he'd made it so he could repeat it on the opposite side.
"As for Erin Ryan..." Peering up at Percival briefly with a wry grin, he said, "...it's probably best that you don't know her. If you're lucky, it'll stay that way." Some might have called her trouble incarnate, but Jack was reluctant to say so lest that only make others more curious about her. Besides, he'd seen more sides to her than just that.
"Nice," he stated, glancing over to admire the dirty blonde's finished snake. "Well done, Rainwood."
It wasn't long after, though, that a shadow fell over the boys and their paper animals. Jack recognized the silhouette of the looming figure immediately.
"Speak of the devil, and he will come!" he cried with more joy than was sincere, spreading his arms as he got to his feet. "Thomas LeStrange! What an honor it is for you to grace us with your presence. Won't you sit down?" He gestured with a flourish to an empty space beside him.
The inquiry about his chest caused the younger boy's jaw to drop with exaggerated shock and he put a palm over his open mouth before dramatically clasping both hands over his heart.
"My chest? How uncharacteristically kind of you to ask," he remarked. "It hurts every time I think of you."
Though his delivery of the message through words and actions painted a playful implication of romantic feelings, his tone was flat and his countenance dulled into a completely deadpan manner. His eyes swam with intensity upon meeting Thomas' blue ones, but the emotion toward which said intensity was inclined was difficult to pinpoint.
"Won't you join us, LeStrange? Or do you have...other places to be?" His gaze cut to the book, quill, and parchment in the older Slytherin's possession. "I know how fond you are of spending time with your...Auntie Petunia."

Failure to Fold
At Jack’s mention of rock- skipping, Hanako spent no hesitance in attempting a rapid and short kick to Percival’s leg, whichever that was closest to him. A gentle reminder that any mention of their embarrassing story to Jack would not be taken kindly. Hanako considered sharing the story of a boy who cried at that same place where the rock-skipping contest took place if his subtle request was not met. An attack on the ego for an attack on the ego. “ I did nothing special” Hanako replied casually, “ Nothing that would be interesting enough for you, at least. Isn’t that right, Rainwood?” He smiled oddly kindly to the blonde boy. One that the other might pick up on its rarity to assume that trouble would befall if he didn’t agree.
"Hey," Jack warned Rainwood after poking his forehead. "No self-degrading. Tone degrades us enough all on his own."
Hanako didn’t respond but merely hummed, pleased with the recognition- even if it was just about folding papers. It was not something he received a lot at home and was now slightly addicted to. He didn’t try much to conceal his delight and even took another paper to begin working on another origami. Just to have something to do as well as continuing to show off his skill.
Folding origami was a great way to block out a lot of memories about the Severus Snape Boys' great defeat in the dorm battles. He could barely contain a groan as Burnett mentioned it. “ Could you maybe - not remind me I participated in such a thing. It’s good for my happiness if you cared about it even if it’s just a little smidge” Too involved in paper folding, he was not at all prepared for Jack’s attack that came next. Shocked and furious, he could do nothing but stare in horror as Jack pinched his cheeks as if he were a little toddler. His poor checks. His poor abused pride! Just as Hanako went to swat that gross hand away from him, Jack had only pulled away and the only thing Hanako’s hand came to slap was his own face. As embarrassing that may be, Hanako closed his eyes without removing his hand from his cheek, and inhaled deeply as he exhaled a slow and soft tone and said; “ I hate you very much “. As much as he wanted to tackle Jack right now, there were too many witnesses at the moment. And one of them was a bit more important to him than the rest. His revenge would have to wait for a quieter moment with Burnett. Although it seemed odd to assume Burnett would ever have a quiet moment, Hanako liked to hope.
The other boy then went on about Vellas, screaming and most importantly, his break-up. “
he couldn’t help but poke at. It still astounded him that Jack ever had a chance to have romance blossom. Although it looked more like he was forced into it than anything. “ You said she wouldn’t flirt with you anymore but honestly it sounds more logical to me if she screamed at you, rather than flirt. “ Hanako wasn’t going to admit it but that 3rd year was cuckoo. If she was a part Vella and if horrendous screams were in her genes then, he was sure she would do way more than scream at her now ex-boyfriend. Terrifying.
"Yes, they are intriguing," said Burnett "To me, anyway. But Tone, please. You must know well enough by now that I don't 'spill tea' so freely. I trade it.”
Hanako eyed his cocky look before rolling his eyes with small traces of a smile. Although annoying, he expected nothing less from the red-headed boy. Still, he didn’t like the idea of being indebted to someone just for giving him information that meant nothing to him. Who would see value in an inside take on Jack’s love life? He wasn’t sure. But he was sure that this was a bit unfair. “ Trade… you don’t mean you want love stories from us, do you? I mean, I don’t have anything interesting but Rainwood~” he patted his companion's shoulder “- Rainwood got loads, you can start with him. I can only offer nicely made origamis” he shrugged with a grin. He was sure Jack could ask for things more valuable than origami. As much of a punchable kid he was, Hanako liked to think he was fair. And would not ask for more than the product's value. But what seemed invaluable to Hanako’s eyes may be different to others.
Jack went on talking about Lestrange’s strange disappearance. Information that Hanako personally thought was more intriguing than his past relationships. How could it be? He was gone for a whole year and came back as if his fall in the lake only happened yesterday. Like time had stopped ticking for him for that whole year. What might he encounter in the lake? What kept him there? So many questions Hanako decided not to ask. Since he was now well aware that Burnett charged his information, he was not eager to ask more than he already did. He could only hope Percival would be the one to ask more on the topic.
Hanako stopped to glance at Percival’s finally finished origami. “ Hmm.. not bad, Rainwood. No bad at all “ he complimented.
It was then that a newcomer showed up and to no surprise, it was the fish-smelling boy himself. Although he certainly did not smell like fish now, the nickname will forever remain in Hanako’s head. Hanako eyed him curiously. Talking about him was one thing, but to see the boy himself was another. If Burnett’s tea was legit, this boy poofed for a year like it was nothing and came back like it was nothing. Hanako was never an overly curious child, but it was hard not to find him intriguing in one way or another. It got to the point where he was curious as to how Burnett even obtained such information.
The two boys then started talking about chest pains and aunties that it felt like if neither he nor Percival intervened, they would be stuck in their own little world sooner or later. His near-empty cup of tea started to feel colder than ever as Burnett and Lestrange hinted that there was much more tea they didn’t spill so easily. Was he more curious than he thought? Hanako never had such information traded to him. People's business was something he liked to stay away from but was it from the lack of interest or the fact that there was just no one to tell him at all?
Pursing his lip in deep thought, his eyes glanced back at Burnett. “ So...Chest pains and Aunts named after a flower.. How much information is that worth~?” he questioned. And he made sure his tone was loud enough for the fishy-smelling kid to hear.

Failure to Fold
Percival smiled at the red-haired boy across from him. The boy nodded slightly, opening his mouth to go into great detail about the whole ordeal. Excitement brewed underneath a growing smirk. The thought of talking about just how badly Hanako had embarrassed himself was something he refused to pass up. A sudden sharp kick to his shin took his words away from him. The boy sent a harsh and accusing glare in Hanako’s direction. It seemed like his friend was less than thrilled at the idea of the event being retold to the red-haired boy. The look on the other’s face brought a strange shiver down his back. It wasn’t a warm smile, but one that seemed far too sharp and cold to be genuine.
”Yeah, nothing special.” he parroted back after a few moments. He guessed that Hanako was still raw from that night, and in a way, he was too. The boy glanced up from his origami as Hanako patted his shoulder. A frown crossed his face before he huffed in an annoyed manner at the other’s words. “That is a lie and you know it. I do not have ‘loads’ of love stories.” he said. The boy threw a glance towards Burnett. Hoping to convey that there weren’t any stories for him to tell. Even if there was possibly one or two he wasn’t going to tell the other. Besides, Burnett looked more like a vulture ready to descend on any piece of information thrown at him. It made him uneasy. The idea that the other was hunting for something.
The boy glanced up as he noticed an arm coming into view. His eyes widened as he debated on what to do. The boy sat there in surprise as he realized the other had just flicked him. He huffed as he rubbed his forehead where Burnett had flicked it. ”Ow. Fine.” he huffed out in annoyance. The boy glanced down, smoothing out the origami’s lines into a sharper look. It was starting to look fairly good, and a sense of pride came over him. Maybe the red-haired boy was right. He shouldn’t beat himself over something he had just started doing today. Besides, he was sure Hanako could be critical enough for the both of them.
Percival decided to focus on the boy’s rushing spill of gossip. His own eyes reflected his interest, but his gaze stayed glued to the small paper snake in his hands. “Evil harpies? Wow, she sounds scary. I’m surprised you didn’t immediately run for the hills when she said hello.” he chuckled out. The boy didn’t know who this girl was, but the way he spoke of her made him imagine her as a scary brute. His eyes widened slightly at Hanako’s and Burnett’s sudden compliments to his now finished snake. The boy smiled at that as he fiddled with the origami a bit more. ”Thanks.” he said.
He let out a chuckle as the boy talked about the rumor of LeStrange smelling like fish. He would have responded except a small thump distracted him. His gaze instantly moved to the side to see a book on the table. Two hands were pressed into the table as someone leaned over the table. Towering over them as if he needed to force his control over them and the situation. The action made him want to lean away, but blunt pride kept him rooted to the spot. He slowly glanced up to look at the boy who had so rudely interrupted them.
A frown crossed his features as he studied the boy. He seemed to be around their age, but the way he carried himself made the other appear older than them. Burnett’s loud words brought closure to who exactly had decided to join them. It seemed that this was Lestrange, and he wondered to himself if the other truly smelled like fish. ”No, but you may call me Rainwood.” he simply said. Answering the boy’s question despite not needing to. A smirk crossed his face at the red-haired boy's jab at the boy's aunt. ”Oh my do you help her knit?” he asked his tone amused.
