Søren would find himself displaced from the people he knew, those he had formed a relationship with and those he tried to comfort. He had a gentle facade, he did not seem like the sort of man that liked to fight. Of course he had no stake in this battle either, just the tears of a crying girl and the distress of a few students he had casually come to recognize.
Flash, on the other hand, had his future ex in one of the other groups. A girl he was going to need to protect or now that he had an excuse, devastate. He was semi-aware of her interest in Vladimir, in fact he was in on the dance shenanigans that went very very wrong. He knew first hand how hard Vladimir could hit, he saw the man in action. He knew that there was something odd going on long before this incident. However, answers were always just out of arm's reach. This was a chance at an answer, a chance he could either take or forego, knowing that if he won there was a fair chance he would be standing against Opeila in the next match.
Thomas LeStrange had been maneuvering himself to get closer to Vladimir. Pushing his way through allies and enemies alike. He was on a mission for answers of his own. His care for what happened to Hogwarts and his peers was infinitesimal in comparison to his personal quest for vengeance. He would push through every obstacle before him. Friends were plentiful and cheap. Girls, also plentiful and cheap. Cheaper in fact. This was his opportunity to not only make an impression but to go on the date Opeila never did.
This left Maria, the lone badger on a team of snakes. She likely felt out of place. In fact, why was she even here! Everyone, literally everyone except Dealla was a Slytherin. What could have possibly earned either of them the attention of this barbaric ritual? That was a good question and it had an actual answer.
Something whispered a sweet nothing into the poor girl's head.
Their opposition was invested also. Alexander was a fourth year dedicated first year, finally second year. There were massive gaps in the boy's memory. Periods of time that he could not account for. Where was he? What did he do? His period of lucidity strangely coincided with the these terrible and dangerous happenstances. Were they somehow related? Could Vladimir piece together the boy's missing history? No, that was beyond his power but he knew enough. He knew where Alexander could start, who he would have to kill. Kill? Yes, kill.
Thora had also invested herself early on. The spiders. The curses. The want for answers. Take them if she had to. But fighting for the answers she wanted was hard. Facing off against her friends, even harder. There were a few people she surely wanted to punch but... this was hard.
Jessica was not at all prepared for this. Curiosity had string her along and now she was in a fight pit with a bunch of people she hardly knew. Maybe Astrea could scare them off or at the very least seduce Thomas. They needed a plan. They needed to work together but that would prove to be difficult for them. They did not know one another that well. They knew more of their opponents than each other.
Think... THINK!
Their time to think would come to an abrupt end. It was their turn in the ring. Victor would make his way back into the ring and the crowd would cheer. This was definitely something interesting. Number seven, four, twenty-eight and thirty-two... please enter the ring. You will be facing off against thirty-three if he remembers he is fighting," how did he know that? "Thirty-four, thirty-five and thirty-six."

For those that play:
- 3 actions. Pick your targets clearly.
- Please only state one conditional if you place a conditional. A conditional is a statement where you use IF. For instance, if Sarah is knocked out then target Bob. There is a lot of you and multiple actions to moderate. With too many conditionals it becomes chaos.
- Order of operations: everyone's first attack is rolled for and resolved first, then the second attack and so on. So attacks that cause an effect will take place immediately after they have been inflicted.
- Attacks in the action order are considered to have went off simultaneously. So you can knock each other out.
The descriptions for many of these moves have been shamelessly taken from wikipedia. However the numbers are unique to this community.Solomon Lear wrote: 13 Jun 2020, 01:14 Punches
KicksCross Punch: A direct straight punch similar to the jab, except delivered with the rear hand. Power is generated through the rotation of the hips.
Effect: Attacks a single target at +0 accuracy for 25 damage * strength modifier.Jab: The jab is a straight blow delivered (generally from a distance) with the arm above the lead foot ... The punch is quick and explosive. This punch must land from the very tips of the knuckles and not from a flat fist. " It is generally used for distraction, keeping distance, setting up, and defense.
Effect: Attacks a single target at +4 accuracy for 23 * strength modifier.Backfist: A backfist is performed by forming a fist and striking with the backside of the fist.
Effect: Attacks a single target at -4 accuracy for 27 * strength modifier.Spinning Backfist: A spinning backfist is performed when the attacker swivels 360 degrees before landing the punch, adding extra momentum to the attack. The fighter will lunge and begin spinning toward the side of the opponent of which fist he or she will attack with. Simpler terms, go to the left, spin to the left and connect with the left fist and vice versa.
Effect: Attacks a single target at -4 accuracy for 22 damage * strength modifier. On a full hit there is a 10% chance that the opponent suffers the sprained secondary effect where they suffer a -1 to their dodge for the next 3 rounds as well as the slowed secondary effect where they suffer a -1 to their accuracy for the next 3 rounds. [Can stack] [Each secondary effect is rolled separately]Chambered Punch: A strike commonly performed in karate, kung fu, and tae kwon do, originating from a "chambered" position.
Prerequisite: Martial Artist
Effect: Attacks a single target at +4 accuracy for 23 * strength modifier. Regardless of success, the martial artist has a +1 dodge to the next attack aimed at them.Leopard Blow (Long Fist): By tucking the fingertips against the bottom knuckle of each finger, a long fist is formed. They offer decreased strength but increased reach. The striking surface is also narrower, which allows the fist to dig between ribs and other soft target areas.
Effect: Attacks a single target at +0 accuracy for 20 damage * strength modifier. On a full hit there is a 10% chance that the opponent suffers the weakened secondary effect where they do 10% less damage for the next 3 rounds. [Can stack]Hammer Fist: A compacted fist is brought down upon the target, usually using the outside area of the fist.
Effect: Attacks 1 target at +0 accuracy for 15 * strength modifier initial damage and 10 * strength modifier damage per round for the next 3 rounds.Haymaker: A punch in which the arm is whipped sideways from the shoulder joint with minimal elbow bend. The name is derived from the motion, which mimics the action of manually cutting hay by swinging a scythe. The haymaker is considered an imperfect/impure punch, as the angle of approach is unsupported by the remainder of the forearm. Since a haymaker's power is derived completely from weight transfer and momentum instead of muscle contraction, a long windup is required to generate sufficient force. Haymakers, in the form of shoulder punches, are frequently used from a mounted position in mixed martial arts as part of the "ground and pound" method, as the legs cannot be used to generate power. When thrown from standing, these punches leave the person vulnerable to a counter punch during the wind up, if blocked, or if the haymaker misses. Haymaker is generally considered a street or bar fighters punch, as it is the punch a person is most likely to use if they have not practiced martial arts and has little to no advantages over other punches such as the somewhat similar hook, making its use by martial artists rare.
Effect: Attacks 1 target at -4 accuracy for 32 * strength modifier. If this attack misses, the next attack on the user is an auto-hit.Hook: A punch involving the use of turning to aim toward the side of the head or body. This punch must land from the very tips of the knuckles and not from a flat fist.
Effect: Attacks a single target at +0 accuracy for 20 damage * strength modifier. On a full hit there is a the opponent suffers the disoriented secondary effect where there is a 5% chance that they will auto-miss their attacks for the next 3 rounds. [Can stack]Drop: A semi-circular and vertical punch thrown with the rear hand. It is usually when the opponent is bobbing or slipping. The strategic utility of the drop relying on body weight can deliver a great deal of power. This punch must land from the very tips of the knuckles and not from a flat fist.
Prerequisite: Martial Artist
Effect: Attacks a single target at +0 accuracy for 20 damage * strength modifier. If a player has elected to taker the dodgeoption for this round, this attack negates that effect (meaning the player derives no benefit from the buff to their dodge). This serves as a counter to dodge.Shovel Hook: A close range punch that is halfway between a hook and an uppercut. Shovel hooks are most commonly used to strike the body at a 45 degree angle. For example, a liver shot can be done using a shovel hook. This punch must land from the very tips of the knuckles and not from a flat fist.
Effect: Attacks a single target at +0 accuracy for 20 damage * strength modifier. On a full hit there is a 10% chance that the opponent suffers the slowed secondary effect where they suffer a -1 to their attack accuracy for the next 3 rounds. [Can stack]Uppercut: The fist is raised vertically towards the target, usually the head or upper body. Since most guards are held with the arms in a vertical position, the uppercut can be used to avoid the opponent's attempts at blocking.
[Can stack] If a player has elected to taker the block option for this round, this attack negates that effect (meaning the player derives no benefit from the buff to their dodge). This serves as a counter to block.Upset Punch: Starts with the fist in the chambered position, with the palm facing downwards, delivered to the abdomen or solar plexus.
Prerequisite: Martial Artist
Effect: Attacks a single target at +0 accuracy for 20 damage * strength modifier. On a full hit there is a 10% chance that the opponent suffers the disabled secondary effect where they take +10% damage for the next 3 rounds. [Can stack]Casting Punch: This is a punch used in Sambo and MMA that starts with a forward motion of the shoulders, which causes the bent arm to whip forward to the opponent. This punch can often cause the opponent to be put in a clinch if it misses at close range.
Effect: Attacks a single target at -4 accuracy for 27 damage * strength modifier. On a full hit there is a 10% chance that the opponent suffers the sprained secondary effect where they suffer a -1 to their dodge for the next 3 rounds. [Can stack] However if this attack misses, any grapple attempts for the round have a +3 chance to hit.Superman Punch: A superman punch or diving punch is a technique used in Muay Thai, ITF-style Taekwon-Do, full contact karate and mixed martial arts fighting. The striker will lunge toward the opponent pushing off with the back foot punching with the opposite arm of the leg used to push off with although there may be variations in the name and technique, depending on the fighting style. The pose should resemble that of Superman flying through the air, hence the name.
Effect: Attacks a single target at -4 accuracy for 27 damage * strength modifier. On a full hit there is a 25% chance that the opponent is knocked onto their back. They must spend their next action getting back onto their feet, therefore their next intended action is lost. This can also be used in a combo, where if it is followed up with a grapple attempt on a target that has been successfully knocked as the user's next action, the attempt has a +2 to the accuracy and strength check. However, this move suffers from a +1 critical fail chance (negated by Perfectionist).Sucker Punch: A punch that takes the enemy by surprise, possibly knocking them out or otherwise incapacitating them. Could be an unexpected blow to the stomach or a strike from behind that the victim did not see coming.
Effect: A Contested Wisdom Roll is performed to see if the opponent is taken by surprise. If the wisdom roll fails, the attack is an auto-miss. However, if the wisdom roll is successful then the attack is an auto-hit for 25 damage * strength modifier. This attack has a +1 critical range and can only be used by a user once every other round.
Font Kick: Delivering a front kick involves raising the knee and foot of the striking leg to the desired height and extending the leg to contact the target with the ball of their foot. Front kicks are typically aimed at targets below the chest: stomach, thighs, groin, knees or lower.
Effect: Attacks a single target at +0 accuracy for 20 damage * strength modifier. +1 critical range.Upward Kick: Delivering a front kick involves raising the knee and foot of the striking leg to the desired height and extending the leg to contact the target with the tops of their toes. These are normally aimed at targets below the chest: stomach, thighs, groin, knees or lower.
Effect: Attacks a single target at -4 accuracy for 22 damage * strength modifier. On a full hit there is a 10% chance that the opponent suffers the winded secondary effect where they have a 5% chance to auto-fail their actions for the next 3 rounds. [Can stack]Roundhouse Kick: The attacker swings their leg sideways in a circular motion, kicking the opponent's side with the front of the leg, usually with the instep, ball of the foot, toe, or shin. It can also be performed is a 360-degree kick where the attacker performs a full circle with their leg, in which the striking surface is generally either the instep, shin or ball of the foot.
Effect: Attacks a single target at -4 accuracy for 22 damage * strength modifier. This attack cannot critically fail.Side kick: The side kick is delivered sideways in relation to the body of the person kicking. A standard side kick is performed by first 'chambering' by raising the kicking leg diagonally across the body, then extending the leg in a linear fashion toward the target, while flexing the abdominals. The two common impact points in sidekicks are the heel or the outer edge of the foot, with the heel is more suited to hard targets such as the ribs, stomach, jaw, temple and chest. When executing a side kick with the heel, the toes should be pulled back so that they only make contact the heel and not with the whole foot as striking with the arch or the ball of the foot can injure the foot or break an ankle.
Effect: A kick that targets a single opponent at +0 accuracy and does 12 damage * strength modifier. On a successful hit, the target is launched back and can hit a second target of the user's choice (must be declared, otherwise it is randomly rolled from ALL targets besides self) at -4 accuracy and for 13 damage. If both targets are hit, both targets are considered to be prone and would lose 1 action as they use the action to stand back up. if only the first target is struck, neither suffer from the secondary effect.Back Kick: Also referred to as a donkey kick, mule kick, horse kick or turning back kick. This kick is directed backwards, keeping the kicking leg close to the standing leg and using the heel as a striking surface. In wushu, this kick is called the "half-moon" kick but involves the slight arching of the back and a higher lift of the leg to give a larger curvature. It is often used to strike opponents by surprise when facing away from them.
Effect: Attacks a single target at -4 accuracy for 27 damage * strength modifier. +1 critical range.Axe Kick: In Japanese, kakato-geri or kakato-otoshi; in Korean, doki bal chagi or naeryeo chagi or "chikka chagi". In Chinese, "pigua tui" or "xiapi tui". An axe kick, also known as a hammer kick or stretch kick, is characterized by a straightened leg with the heel descending onto an opponent like the blade of an axe. It begins with one foot rising upward as in a crescent kick then the upward arc motion is stopped and then the attacking foot is lowered to strike the target from above. The arc can be performed in either an inward (counter-clockwise) or outward (clockwise) fashion.
Effect: Effect: Attacks a single target at +4 accuracy for 23 * strength modifier. The user suffers -4 dodge to the next attack and taking critical damage if they are hit.Butterfly Kick The butterfly kick is done by doing a large circular motion with both feet in succession, making the combatant airborne. There are many variations of this kick. The kick may look like a slanted aerial cartwheel and at the same time, the body spins horizontally in a circle. It begins as a jump with one leg while kicking with the other, then move the kicking leg down and the jumping leg up into a kick, landing with the first kicking leg, all while spinning. This kick involves also the arching the back backwards when airborne to give a horizontal body with high angled legs to the horizontal. First practiced in Chinese martial arts, the butterfly kick, or "xuan zi", is widely viewed as ineffective for actual combat. However, its original purpose was to evade an opponent's floor sweep and flip to the antagonist's exposed side or it may be used as a double aerial kick to an opponent standing off to the side. It is now widely used in demonstrative wushu forms (taolu) as a symbol of difficulty. Also note the similarity in execution when compared to an ice skating maneuver known as a flying camel spin.
Effect: This is an attack that protects the user from having their legs swept. Auto-success attempting to evade a leg sweep attack. In addition this attack strikes a single target twice at 0 accuracy for 10 damage * strength modifier.Calf Kick This strike is a low roundhouse kick that hits the backside of the calf with the shin. While a Calf Kick sacrifices range in comparison to a standard low roundhouse kick to the thigh, the Calf Kick can't be checked with a knee or grabbed with an arm making it a safer kick for a striker in MMA matches vs opponents capable of checking low kicks or grapplers looking for takedown opportunities.
Effect: This attack cannot be blocked. Performed at +0 accuracy, this attack targets a single opponent for 15 damage * strength modifier. On a full hit, there is a 10% chance that the opponent suffers from the sprained secondary effect where they suffer a -1 to their dodge for the next 3 rounds.Crescent Kick: In Japanese, mikazuki Geri; in Korean, bandal chagi (반달 차기). The crescent kick, also referred to as a "swing" kick, has some similarities to a hook kick and is sometimes practiced as an off-target front snap kick. The leg is bent like the front kick, but the knee is pointed at a target to the left or right of the true target. The energy from the snap is then redirected, whipping the leg into an arc and hitting the target from the side. This is useful for getting inside defenses and striking the side of the head or for knocking down hands to follow up with a close attack. In many styles of T'ai chi ch'uan and Kalaripayattu, crescent kicks are taught as tripping techniques. When training for crescent kicks, it is common to keep the knee extended to increase the difficulty. This also increases the momentum of the foot and can generate more force, though it takes longer to build up the speed. In this case, it serves as a tripping technique.
Effect: Attacks a single target at +4 accuracy for 10 damage. On a full hit, there is a 30% chance that the opponent is tripped, knocked prone. They lose their next action as a result.

Alexander walked into the pitch. His eyes on the boy giving the announcements, Victor or so another boy had claimed earlier. Trying to discern his statement.
"thirty-three if he remembers he is fighting,"
That meant he knew maybe Alexander had met him before. Had they been friends? Was he hurt that Alexander had forgotten him for some reason? Or was it something else, that Victor knew more about his predicament. Which led to a whole lot of other questions.
Then there were the question of the public as well. Were they behind the events of Hogwarts at all. Was this just a regular illegal fighting pitch, or was it something more. It had to have something to do with Hogwarts, otherwise there would have been more variety in the grouping of children here. Not just those attending Hogwarts. And a fellow student of Hogwarts was here, presenting it.
Though the question was not the premier one in Alexander's head, he had one special one.
'who was behind this'
It couldn't be Victor or the guy Vladimir. Though they were important figures in Hogwarts they shouldn't have the connections necessary to organize such a large gathering. With so many adult witches and wizards, special brands, underground installations like this. School children did not have these kind of funds or ability to organize this. No, there was someone else behind this. Or multiple someone's, but who ?
He did not know and probably would not know. Even if he somehow won this entire match, which was unlikely, he had far more personally pressing questions. Though finding out who was behind this was still of some import.
Then Alexander turned to the now messed up pit where the others had fought on before. The faint traces of blood in the sand, the once mostly serene sand now scattered with the many footsteps of different students.
As he walked onto the pitch he wouldn't say anything. He would simply walk towards one end of the pitch and look at the his opposition and his allies. He saw some seemed more determined than others. Some who were serious about the price. He let out a tired and resigned sigh.
He did regret it a little bit that he was going to do this. But as he looked at the opposition his hands clenched. The image of a white-haired albino girl in his mind. Even if he bled and suffered. Even if he had to do beat the ever-living daylights out of these other students. It would be worth it. As long as he would not forget anymore.
It would be worth it.

Memory is all we are. Moments and feelings, captured in amber, strung on filaments of reason. Take a man’s memories and you take all of him. Chip away a memory at a time and you destroy him as surely as if you hammered nail after nail through his skull

Well, it was his turn, as well as the rest of his cobbled together team. Flash was equipped with a plan, but also prepared for disappointment. How could he not be, it was in the air. The way the audience cheered, their faces obscured by the faint darkness. The earthy smell of rock and blood, and now, a lingering vague locker room stench as well. People were fighting, regardless of what better options were available. It was a large group of people, hard to convince to be civil. At least with a smaller population, people he knew and his own team, he could have an effect. It wasn’t the amount of control he felt comfortable with, but the last thing he needed was to appear weak or unsure. He needed to be an example to others.
Of course, on the inside, his guts turned with uneasiness. They were isolated, scared, someone could do something drastic. Also, Flash wasn’t exactly the immaculate voice of reason that his brother was, he was still just a first year, still only held sway over a small population. As if by design, none of those people were ones on his team. They were all strangers, only recognized through association with others. They didn’t have any reason to trust Flash the way his close companions did… trusted him with their lives. He would have to prove it, though he shuddered to think of what the cost would be. Worth it? Since there were so many unknown variables, it was hard to say. He could only do what had the largest chance of success, with the least amount of suffering. Whether it was worth it was up to the enemy team. He at least knew two people there, though their relationship to him could be described, at best, as having a casual understanding of each other.
Miss Astrea and Miss Thora, both chance encounters that perhaps could have gone better. What they thought of him, he didn’t know. He wasn’t exactly expecting to be on the other end of a fist fight with either of them. Miss Astrea had shared a moment of solidarity for their love of Willow, while Thora had arrived serendipitously to give the group of partners an idea of what Victor and Marion’s ‘mark’ looked like. Not only that, but she was best friends with Bridget, and had spent the ball trying to be as helpful as possible. He didn’t imagine either of them would want to punch him out. The other two, he honestly couldn’t say.
Regardless, his only chance was now, and it was time to set expectations. He did intend to ‘win’ after all. He might not say as much with his words, but there was no better candidate. Not one that he knew. It wasn’t just for him, but for everyone. Their safety was better in his hands than their own. No amount of self-doubt changed that feeling, he was the one who handled control best.
”Forfeit.” Flash didn’t want to beat around the bush. He said it loud and clear, looking at each of his enemies in turn. ”Miss Astrea, Miss Thora, serve as an example to the others. If you all forfeit now, no one needs to get hurt. I plan to move on. Unscathed, preferably.”
It was a bit boastful, but he needed to make a statement. Namely, his team would not forfeit. Still, he intended to give them the out completely in good faith. It would be their doing if he needed to retaliate. As for his team, he told them to do the same, but he had no sway over their decisions. He had no sway over anyone’s decisions. What ethos did he have over people who didn’t know who he was? Well, he would see for himself shortly enough.
"That is the smartest option. But attack me if you must. I shall fight back." His expression was soft. Hopeful.

Alexander could not help but feel annoyance towards the other Slytherin standing there, asking them to forfeit. He understood the general desire for people not to fight. But this was something else, this was him saying that they should willingly surrender. Not simply give up fighting. He could not help but gain a slight scowl on his face as the younger Slytherin extolled the virtues of surrender. He knew he himself needed to make sure his own teammates did not get demoralized or tempted by the offers of the other Slytherin.Interacts with: @Flash Holmwood
So Alexander sent an annoyed glare at Flash and spoke in a similar tone.
"You say forfeit. Not to both refuse to fight in this mad fight club, but to surrender."
The scowl now grew into a full one. As he looked at the young man whose name he did not know. Yet another face amongst the crowd he had seen through the years of Hogwarts and those he had forgotten.
"You speak as if that is the one and only rational option. To surrender to you in your superior wisdom" He would subsequently do almost a mock bow, though he was careful to keep an eye on his opposition to see that he was not caught unawares. Then he straightened himself again and continued with speaking.
"Tell us oh wise one. What wisdom do you have that propels you to seek the question? What importance does the question to have, that it is so much more important than you than for any others who might be here?"
Alexander did not often feel contempt of a person and neither had he had any serious rivals in his time at Hogwarts. Yet he could not help but chafe at the attitude of his fellow student. When this would come to a fight he guessed that he could at least take a little pleasure in beating his face up. This bit of annoyance and anger would at least be better in this fight than melancholy and sadness. Better to keep his mind and body focused and invigorated rather than down and burdened by sadness.

One of the opposition, naturally one of the ones he knew nothing about, immediately started to give him guff about his approach. Natural, it wasn’t as if he didn’t expect exactly that kind of rebuttal. In that boy’s position, he might have felt much the same. The fierceness in the other boy’s eyes was unparalleled, he had some kind of skin in the game, no doubt. What that meant however, Flash couldn’t know. It wasn’t as though this was a Socratic seminar, they couldn’t just exchange information and figure out who was the most deserving. Flash, at least, was secure in his own interpretation. He had multiple accounts, not only his own. What did this kid have?
”The question is useless. The point is to escape.” Flash stated his opinion clearly.
He eyed his opponent carefully, wondering if he would indeed be the one to decide to throw the first punch. If it were to be on anyone, Flash would want it to be on him, so it was good that he had drawn his attention. This was the most troublesome child on this team, then? Wouldn’t it be quite wretched if he were the only one to raise his hands in ire? Was Flash’s proposal so unattractive?
”Our team is the most physically capable, if you looked at your opponents clearly you might have noticed the same. If you disagree, then attack me all you like. Beat down the person offering the quickest, most painless solution. All I want is to get everyone out of this farce.”

Alexander furrowed his eyebrow. For a moment thinking seriously about what the other Slytherin had said. He scratched the little stubble on his chin as he looked back at where he had come from. Seeing that his own allies were all to slow to react. And on top of that, they didn't seem to be all too physically strong.Interacts wit: @Flash Holmwood
Admittedly the same was true for the opposition but the difference was still startling. He then looked around the ring above the arena, at the crowd of people all watching this for their enjoyment. Enjoying seeing the children suffering, either aware or unaware of the morality and consequences of their actions. Truly, that such a large crowd could be organized in such a small community as wizarding Britain for an event such as this.
Alexander let out a sigh of frustration and resignation, as he once more looked back to his own teammates. And finally to the crowd again.
"They just want us to suffer don't they ? They wish to see a bunch of kids beat each other up."
Alexander then looked back at Flash. Anger in his eyes, though it was now focused on the crowd.
"Well **** them. "
He then seemed to think for a moment.
"So what ? We shake each other's hands and then I get out of here ?"

After the the last match, her number and that of her teammates were called. This was the first time she had met them, and their opponents so she had absolutely no idea what to expect going into this. Heck, she didn’t even understand how she ended up in this situation. A fight club with her peers was something would probably remember signing up for. She hadn’t done anything of note lately either.
So why was she invited?
"Ever see something in the dead of night waiting?"
The hairs on the back of her neck stood up at the whisper. She whirled around but no one else was there. But now she was very much afraid. Memories of a night just a few months ago flashed through her mind. Fire. Smoke. The remnants of the Hufflepuff Apocalypse. A hole in the wall. The cloaked man walking towards her in the dead of night. All the feelings from that one night came crashing down like a wave.
Normally she would also have had a replay of her heaving episode out the window. Her breath would also quicken and her hands would start to shake. But this time, she was much calmer than usual. She owed it to the being in the presence of her teammate. He (Flash) seemed to have a calming effect on her. Sure she was still terrified, but at least they wouldn’t have to spend time cleaning her regurgitated food off the floor.
Now she was sure the cloaked person had something to do with it.
But now was not the time to pull off a Nancy Drew. There were more pressing matters at hand.
A boy (Alexander) from the opposing team had gone into the rings, as did the boy who asked for her name. She did not follow him right away, mind still reeling from the stressful flashback. She did hear his speech however. He was going along with Dealla’s plan it seemed, but what Maria didn’t expect was for the boy to want to go to the next round. What was he getting at? He was negotiating the opposition’s surrender it seemed. Why couldn’t her team just surrender? That way they wouldn’t have to fight. The badger was more attentive now, eyes observing the two and their conversation. The other boy apparently thought the same. He ridiculed Flash’s idea but the other boy remained firm. He insisted their opponents wouldn’t stand a chance against them. That the team she was on was “the most physically capable”. She wasn’t too sure if that was true, but he was the one currently trying to end this peacefully.
Why couldn’t they just both surrender or like the other boy said, refuse to fight?
Part of her wanted more than anything to avoid fighting, but another part knew that it wasn’t going to be as easy as ending this in a draw. As their Brad Pitt impersonator said, they didn’t even have to enter the ring. It was clear to her however, that her teammates were going to fight. Her need for self preservation screamed at her not to go into the ring. It said leave the calm boy and the obnoxious shirtless one alone to fend for themselves, along with her other teammate should he choose to fight. They were strangers to her. She owed them nothing. But her conscience wouldn’t let her abandon them. Some say Hufflepuffs were loyal to a fault. Today, that was her. She didn’t know these people but if anything they were her best bet to survive this at the moment. She wasn’t sure if she could fully trust them, but at the moment her options were few.
Turning to the two boys she spoke up.
“I’d be cautious.” She addressed the other boy slowly. “We still don’t know anything at this point. Who knows what they have planned? Her eyes shifted around cautiously, waiting and anticipating in case anything was to go wrong. Whatever powers put them here already proved themselves evil. She wasn’t about to let her guard down.

“Today is the sort of day where the sun only comes up to humiliate you.”
Vladimir wanted a show, and he was going to get one. Thomas' glorious strut came to an end when the young Slytherin twisted his frame to join a trio in the ring. Blue eyes narrowed as he lowered his head, an elevated breathing rate. Walking that was was exhausting. His body and head unmoved, eyes flickering to each individual.
First, the brunette with dashes of blonde, the voice of reason. On the surface he appeared to have athletic bone structure, standing higher than the average 12 year old boy. Today continued a string of recent encounters with Thomas. Most notably a pre-arranged engagement with one ideal. A tragic failure, where Thomas believed his actions were singular in progressing the group's goal. Even if presently misunderstood. Still, the impression he had was not a negative one, even if fortune did not favor Flash Holmwood the night of the ball. He was not one of the fools that revealed a common goal. Seemingly a good head on his shoulders, despite his dubious choice of company.
Next, the girl[Maria] Thomas did not recognize with dark hair and light-brown eyes. Her choice to stand within the ring denoted qualities of bravery, but her intentions were unclear. She stood behind Flash, giving Thomas the impression the two were on the same time. Thomas could not recall which numbers he was paired with, only the assigned ring. Lastly, the boy toe to toe with Flash was possibly the most familiar. Even if the two hadn't interacted one-on-one. He[Alexander] lived in the same dorm as Thomas, and the two participated in a house pillow fight together.
Contrary to popular belief, Thomas was not overtly physical. He would be prepared to engage others to defend something of value, but only after exploring alternate and more reasonable approaches. Despite his act to play instigator, summoning aggression for students he had no quarrel with was no easy task. Perhaps taking a punch would get the blood flowing, spurring the boy into action. He approached them, but was unable to hear the conversation prior to his arrival. "Hopefully you're better at throwing punches than you are levitating pillows." Nodding towards his Slytherin peer[Alex], he casually lifted a finger to tap against his outstretched jaw. "First punch is on the house." Speaking in his typically calmed tone, he came well within the arm's reach. It was surely not what he wanted to do, but what he had to.

Though he was doing a decent job of hiding it, Søren was undoubtedly rattled by this whole mess. He assumed himself lucky after the Blossom Ball, hearing about the fiesta of carnage that plagued the school in constant waves. He avoided encountering the part-giants that crashed the Masquerade Ball, slept through the spider fiasco in his common room and escaped the secret ball only seconds after the mosps arrived. If circumventing what Hogwarts liked to throw at its student body was a talent, he would be winning the million-dollar prize. He should have known that his luck would run out at some point and today, it did just that.
Thankfully, the boy that rounded up the team, Flash, had a plan. At least, it seemed like that. The wash of calm didn’t hit Søren at once, it came in steady undulations, embrewing the Slytherin with a confidence he didn’t think was possible to possess in this moment. That self-assured feeling allowed him to regress to a contemplative state, thinking up alternatives for this shite situation. He would surely not be fighting Ileen or Dee. He preferred to keep away from Erik as well – because he befriended the boy or because he was afraid of the boy’s hulking figure, Søren wasn’t sure. He just knew he couldn’t fight them.
Flash’s single word, “Forfeit,” snapped him out of his trance. His team already made their way into the ring, though the opposing one was slow to follow. Stepping onto the disturbed sand, he positioned himself just slightly behind the rest. Rather than being afraid, he felt like he had very little to offer to the tension swaying from one end of the ring to the other, so standing back felt right. He had not a single idea about this Vladimir bloke nor why anyone would want to fight to have dinner with him. Was he that dashing?
Whatever the case may be, Søren found himself nodding along to Flash’s words. Before arriving at Hogwarts, he thought Slytherins to be the type that would throw themselves at this sort of fight. A punch first, questions later kind of temper. He couldn’t believe how wrong he was. Flash, right then and there, was pure Slytherin. Outsmart, outwit, outplay… or something like that. There was no way to tell if he truly wanted to save them from the fight or gain the prize for himself, but if he succeeded on his mission, there would be no fighting today. Everyone would go home safe. Dee. Ileen. Erik. Nico. Blegh, was he feeling some of that Hufflepuff loyalty? He barely knew the people he counted in his head, but he did know that they deserved to get out of this unscathed.
The single boy at the opposition taunted Flash at first, but seemingly agreed to his plan in the end. It was almost brilliant. The rest of the opposition needed to follow suit if things were to go smoothly. The opposition also needed to ignore the other boy in Søren’s team, Thomas, if they wanted smooth sailing. What in Merlin’s spiked butterbeer was he doing? Choosing to ignore the boy and praying that the other team did so as well, he kept his arms limp but took up a steadier stance. He would not throw the first punch, but if someone came at him, he was ready to defend.Action

Alexander calmly walked towards the opposing group. Not making any hostile movements, and he turned his head towards the boy he thought was named Lestrange. Was it some kind of trap ? Would hitting the young Lestrange trigger some kind of trap. He was not sure, it was a weird move altogether.
If he was hostile to Alex he would just have attacked him. If he wasn't he would not have offered this or forfeited as well. He had to think about how to respond for a moment, a little shocked by the request. His right eyebrow was then raised in a confused and questioning look.
"I am not going to attack you"
He then turned to the Hufflepuf girl Who was saying that they should be cautious. He could only nod in response. He then walked closer to the group, so that they could converse more easily.
"Yeah. This is a weird situation, and there are probably some powerful forces behind it. "
He would then do a wide hand-motion around the circle. Motioning to the gathered crowd that had been assembled.
"Take a good moment to look at these men and women. Why are they here ? How were so many brought here. What we-" and whilst he was saying this. Especially if Flash took a moment to look at the crowd Alex would follow his instincts and would raise his foot into the air only to bring it down on Flash's shoulders (axe kick)
Whilst he did this he absentmindedly felt regret. But with his teammates hanging back and seeming reluctant to join into the fight he had to act creative, and perhaps quite treacherous.
Even if the chance for victory was lower than 1% he had to take it. The possibility of the question was worth way more than getting beaten up till he was bloody and raw. Physical pain was nothing compared to the near-constant worry and mental issues in his head. So if there was even a chance at some relief. Then he had to take it.
If his kick was successful he would follow it up with a haymaker to Flashs's face. Hoping that the kick would be successful. Then he would take a few step backs and attempted to stealthily take out his wand and muttered quietly. "Fumos" It was against the rules, and the circle might have something to stop magic. But with his teammates as unresponsive as they were he needed to play dirty. And what did the rules matter anyway, since they were established by the madmen who had organized this and he did not care about them. Only the question.
