Whoever had decided to place Livia's desk at the Headliner next to the new student who appeared to believe herself to be elevated above all the rest, Livia thought, was simply asking to be throttled. Upon reaffirming that the 'whoever' in question was likely Silas Norwood, Livia's disdain had only intensified.
If the red-headed Hufflepuff had known simple societal etiquette – like not touching things that were not hers – it all could have been avoided. However, the Hufflepuff (whose name Livia had certainly heard but refused to memorise) seemed to lack intellect as well as gentility. As Livia had adjusted a stack of parchment on her desk to better lie flat, a single drop of ink had flown from the quill moving on the desk laterally-placed to hers. It landed upon the top sheet of parchment and settled. Pitch black dampness, almost like mould, seeped deeper until it had permeated the entire stack. It spread outwards, an incessant and unwelcome growth.
Livia stared at it, too shocked for emotions to appear upon her face. The names and details written on the papers seemed innocuous from afar, just pieces of record-keeping that could easily be re-made, but the truth of the matter was that each name, with the student's year and house listed next to it, also had numbers corresponding to files Livia kept in a locked drawer of the desk of her dormitory. Without them, her system of spreading rumours relied entirely upon her memory. With Livia's skilful recollection, it was hardly a catastrophe, but it was inconvenient.
Not even a moment later had she decided it: having Kar-ha-what's-her-face on the team was an utter liability.
The girl's ability as a writer could not be questioned; however, Livia was hardly blind. Someone who did not perform with consistency and conscientiousness lacked the fitness to work within a group setting – after all, she reasoned, it only required one to observe Silas Norwood and all the fires the rest of the team had to smother.
Thus, Livia busied herself with other work. They said revenge was a dish best served cold, after all; she recognised without trouble that she ought to give herself time to relax. With precise, sharp cursive, she dutifully copied the rest of her notes onto fresh sheets of parchment. She would dispose of the damaged stack later, with an incendiary blaze, to remove all evidence from view. But even once she added the last full stop and slipped the stack into a folder in her bag, Livia was well aware that her work at the Headliner office was unfinished.
One hand lifted her messenger bag to her shoulder and let go. The other rested its fingertips upon the wood of her desk. For a moment, she would appear at peace, simply taking a moment to rest before taking her leave as well. Livia's gaze dropped to the side of the desk, surveying the inkwell she had left loosely capped. After deciding which angle of attack would leave her least susceptible to stray splatter, she turned, sending the hand on the desk swiftly outwards and slightly back. The inkwell flew upwards at first, and then tilted, and unleashed a stream of dark brown liquid onto Ka-whatever's desk.
Livia then calmly left the Headliner office, her hands lightly resting upon the strap of her messenger bag, a small, self-reverential smirk on her lips.
