The noisy hustle of the castle right after each bell was enough to make Kai think she had to get out of there as soon as possible.
It was the last class before lunch break, well, for most students, Kai had a free period. As soon as the students started spilling out of the classes, Kai immediately turned her head towards the stairs.

She had her bag in hand, and also the sketchbook she’d carry around everywhere with her.
She was trying to get the chains of the bag open mid-step when she suddenly bumped into an older student, probably a third- or fourth year. Before she could even reply with "Sorry," they pushed her off with a "Watch it, kid!" before running off.

What a meanie... Kai thought before steadying herself and continuing down the stairs. Nevermind, they were probably late to a class and were in a hurry

All Kai needed at the moment was to find a quiet place to sit and draw, and probably complete her Charms homework, and she knew exactly where to go.

The Courtyard was a perfect place for just that. There was fresh air, barely any people, absolutely no noise, and — a girl wearing furless earmuffs?— headphones, was it? Wait, yeah-, they are headphones! Muggle stuff don't work in Hogwarts, though, do they?

Knowing about them wasn't common for a witch, but Kai knew a lot more about Muggle appliances than she should have, also taking in the fact that she went to a Muggle school till she was eight, as there weren't many options for magical schools in the Isles anyway.

Looking back at the girl, she wanted to go up to her and ask about them, but she was afraid that she would just weird her out. She knew she had seen her before, possibly in the common room? Though she had never interacted with her before…

One question couldn't hurt, right?

"Uh... Hi!" Kai kind of offered a small wave after approaching her, before awkwardly putting her hand down immediately.
"I really like your headphones. Do you mind if I ask… like, uh— how are they working in Hogwarts?"

____Once Professor has dismissed the class for today, Millie quickly went out from the Potions Lab as she couldn't take it any more chaos has invaded her ears for even less than half an hour. It started when one of the class clown acting all confident and shoving anything into the cauldron although that wasn't described as one of the ingredients Professor had said or even scripted in the textbook. And maybe as they expected, their cauldron emitted suspicious smoke, and then boomed!, also followed by AAAHHHH!!!, OUCHH!!!, NOOOO!!!, and such. That was quite a fortune Millie had escaped from the chaos, though, her ears felt like they almost exploded in the near time because of all those deafening noises.
____Sighing helplessly, she stepped out, letting the cool breeze soothed her ears in this October's cool air. She walked farther from any eyes linger, flopped her body onto the grass and leaned her back to the tree. Pulling out something she brought from her home she kept inside her satchel, Millie then circled it around her head that makes her ears covered by it.
____Once all of the noises around has been muted, Millie let out a quite long sigh as she leaned her back more deeper to the tree. That's better, she whispers which no one nor even herself could hear. In the embrace of her new solitude, the girl started to closed her eyes. At least she doesn't have any class until lunch break so she could stay here for a little bit more longer. No one, but her.
____Or at least that was she thought.
____You know, that ominous feeling when you sensed something or someone watching you. Grew up more and more obvious until she also feel its presence getting closer to her. No matter she wanted to ignored that feeling, she can't help but opened her eyes. And that was the moment of the surprise came when a girl popped out of nowhere right before her. Millie blinked her eyes once, twice, silently watching the girl's mouth opened and closed like a gold fish.
____What a plonker! I'm wearing noise-cancelling headphone right now, that's why I'm deaf!
____After that late realization, Millie quickly pulled off her headphone and rested it on her neck as if it is a necklace rather than a headphone. Apologetically, she opened her mouth, "Sorry, you said something?"
