@Millie Ann
Emmanuel tilted his head, a little dumbfounded as the girl sat down, and pulled out her pocket journal. Emmanuel had attended many, if not all, classes with Millie and knew she excelled. Yet, here in this moment, her cavalier attitude toward her excellence confounded him. Perhaps he misunderstood her so far; he had to work so hard to pass his classes, yet it seemed effortless to her. In his experience, most students in her shoes would boast about their capabilities. Emmanuel couldn't help but acknowledge a strange feeling rising up in him. It wasn't anger or empathy. For a moment, he didn't have a word for it, at least not until he did what he did next. Jealousy.
Trying to be subtle, he made a practised motion with his wand and muttered an incantation under his breath. "Avifors!". Emmanuel was aiming at the notebook she had pulled out and transformed it into a bright red cardinal. The small bird began to flutter around the girl. He let out a laugh, keeping concentration on the spell.
"Well then, Ann," Em smirked as he said her last name, mimicking her own use of his. "If you're going to be so humble, let's see how you follow your own interests if they fly away."
Though his intention was not to be mean to her, he couldn't help but let his jealousy get the better of him. She was cool and confident. He, however, still had his head stuck in the clouds and a naivety to jump into the lake.

____The girl bulged her eyes out when the book in her hand suddenly poofed and turned into a cardinal. A bird. If only that flying creature wasn't originally her precious notebook her Pa bought for her last year, Millie wouldn't be consumed by a sudden panic instead of admiration. She stood up in an instant, eyes followed closely where it's going.
____"You." She took a quick glanced at the perpetrator who clearly has no remorse of what he just did, then gasped as she watched the bird flew farther. She clicked her tongue in irritance, quite impulsively took out her wand once again and swished it towards Emmanuel. "I'm not done with you yet. Anathema Daphnis."
____One last glance at Emmanuel now he perfectly grounded, or more precisely rooted, Millie left him there as she started to chasing down her pocket journal cardinal.
____"Come back here, reddie," she called out the red bird as it still flying ahead of her, pretending like its chaser have never exist in the first place. Looking at how she has been ignored, Millie started to jogged and matching its speed. "Come on now, pretty one. No matter I loved to see you in that form from a little longer, I—" She paused her negotiation, thinking for a moment, then smirked as she continued, "Don't you think we have much in common? The one who transformed you, the one who makes me chased you out of this lake shore? Shouldn't that makes us an ally for one exact foe?"
____Negotiating wasn't one of her best skill, so she didn't put much expectation when the cardinal didn't show any sign to stop. Yet a moment after, it softly landed at the grass near the lake's edge, eyes peering at her with a great intensity. Millie halted her movement, half-doubting what she just saw, but then continue stepping closer to it. Cupping her palms open, she waited if this bird is really considering her proposal or it was just its natural bird instinct took an act. So when it finally hopped onto her palm voluntarily, the girl pursed her lips into thin line, holding back her grin.
____"Thank you for the cooperation. Now, let's go back to our hostage, shall we?" Millie brushed the cardinal's fur with her finger as she walked back to Emmanuel. Hopes she doesn't keep him waiting for too long.

WC: 276Em was caught off guard as his legs were transformed into twisting vines, and roots that planted him firmly to the spot. He watched Millie traverse through the rocky lake edge, chasing the bright red cardinal. The bird floated through the air freely, fluttering around evading capture from the Ravenclaw girl. She got farther away, before the bird landed, and seemed to decide to trust the girl enough to allow her to pick it up.
Em pulled against the roots, not feeling them budge. He let out an exasperated sigh, before pointing the tip of his aspen wand to the plant matter that were once his feet. With a practiced slightly upward swish of his wand, he muttered the counter spell "Reparifarge!".
The roots and vines contorted, turning back into his flesh and bones. He gave his left foot a little wiggle, making sure he could feel all the way to the tips of his toes. Satisfied, he walked toward the girl, who was returning from her jaunt.
"You're quick witted, you are!" He praised, letting out a chuckle. He pointed his wand at the girl, trying to put on a scheming face. Deicing not to continue the onslaught of jinxes, he just flicked his wand and muttered the Avifors spell again. The cardinal gave a sweet, final chirp before popping into a small cloud of feathers. The bird was replaced by it's original form; a small journal.
"Now I'm curious. What does that little book contain that resulted in yet another jinx from you, hm?" He was being playful, but kept his wand in his hand, and a bit of distance between them just in case.
