Peyton felt like a fish out of water as she stepped through the train's aisle. It was already like a different world and she found herself gaping at some of the people. Some wore cloaks while others were still in their ordinary clothes, some had cats or owls or even toads, and some carried strange looking candies or moving newspapers. She felt out of place and wondered if she’d seem stupid to them.

There had to be someone else like her, someone that had no idea what was to come. She pressed herself against the wall to let others pass her, examining the faces of those walking by. There were certainly some people that looked nervous, but most everyone was starting to form groups and take their seats in the many compartments. Peyton wanted to approach someone, but she was worried that approaching a group would be an unwanted intrusion.

The aisle was starting to grow sparse, signaling that she needed to make a decision soon. She brushed the nonexistent dust from her shirt and readjusted her light grey scarf, heading to the door closest to her. She cracked it open; all the seats were taken. She moved on to the next door, repeating the process- full.

She took a deep breath, trying to keep herself from panicking. The train was massive, there had to be somewhere she could go. She checked another door, then another. There was a single empty seat in one of them, but one of the students had their owl cage in it and didn’t respond when she addressed them.

Peyton was almost ready to give up when she found a compartment with only one person in it. She couldn’t help but wonder why they were alone when most of the train was packed, but shot them her best smile nonetheless, “Hey, mind if I sit there?” She pointed to the seat across from them.

Robert had gotten to Platform 9 & 3/4 long before the majority of other people. His parents were almost always super late getting to wherever they needed to be, so he forced them to take him to the train station first thing in the morning the day he was supposed to go to Hogwarts. With nothing else to do, he got on the Hogwarts Express, went into one of the many empty compartments near the back, and opened one of the many books he had brought with him.

After almost an hour of sitting there, more people started to board the train. At first, Robert put down his book and looked at the people coming onto the train, wondering who would sit down next to him. However, most of the students seemed to know each other, so they went into compartments with their friends, leaving Robert alone. He was fine being alone. In fact, he was kind of used to it. However, he was a bit disappointed because he had been looking forward to meeting new people at Hogwarts. He finally resigned himself to the fact that nobody was going to sit with him, and again buried himself in the book, spreading out a bit in the compartment.

Eventually, he looked up from his book and became aware that there was someone standing at the door to his compartment. "Hey, mind if I sit there?" She asked, smiling at him.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, how long have you been standing there?" he asked. He hurriedly put away the book and straightened up. "Of course, make yourself comfortable. What's your name? I'm Robert," he said, reaching out a hand to shake.

Margaret walked down the halls of the train, only one of the compartments seemed to be empty, well actually there were already two people inside but most of the other compartments had 3 or 4 people or had 2 people who already seemed like good friends and she didn't want to interrupt them.

She took a deep breath before knocking on the side of the compartment. Talking to people always made her a bit afraid unless she already knew them. She tried not to think about it too much. "Can I sit with you guys?" She asked, hoping they'd say yes if they didn't she would either have to squeeze into somewhere else or barge in on someone else, but in actuality, she would most likely do neither, she would actually probably just sit in the hall because she would be too shy to ask to st somewhere else.

She looked at them both, worriedly, not sure what they'd say. They both fairly brown hai, though the boy's hair was redder. They both had very friendly faces which made her feel better, but she knew a kind face didn't mean they were nice people, even though they seemed to be. The girl had tanned skin and the boy seemed a bit paler. They both had light brown eyes. She looked at them both, waiting for a reply.

(As Peyton had not been online in 5 days, we are just going to say that she fell asleep. If she comes back online, she can just wake up and join the RP again)

Robert looked up as someone knocked on the side of the compartment. A girl was standing outside, nervously looking in. The first thing he noticed about her was her bright red hair. He also saw that she was very pale, which stood out even more than it normally would against her black sweater. She was pretty tall and had blueish green eyes. "Can I sit with you guys?" She asked, looking at Robert and Peyton. She was beginning to look a bit desperate to find a seat, making Robert glad that he'd arrived so early.

Robert was relieved. He had been a bit worried that he was going to have to spend the entire train ride alone with a sleeping Peyton, but this other girl seemed very nice. Who knows, maybe she'll be his first friend in this strange but exciting new world!

Robert nodded, putting a finger to his lips as he glanced at the girl napping across from him. "Come on in," he whispered, "she seems like a pretty heavy sleeper, but I've been trying to keep quiet just in case. Do you need help with your bags?" He paused for a second, and then realized that he hadn't introduced himself. "I'm Robert, by the way. What's your name?"

She hadn't noticed the girl was sleeping, somehow, maybe she was just nervous or the girl was just a lively looking sleeper. She lugged her suitcase and a small bag of books and her other personal possessions into the train compartment. "Nice to meet you, I'm Margaret" she whispered. The girl was sleeping close to the loft so she put her stuff under the seat, not wanting to wake her up, but she was fine with that, it would have been easier to get out when they arrived at Hogwarts.

She sat down on the seat expecting that the train would be starting soon. "So what part of England are you from?" Margaret asked awkwardly, not really knowing what else to ask. "I come from Scottland, which isn't really a good impression on the Scottish redhead cliche," Margaret said, laughing nervously "my grandparents, on my mum's side, come from Ireland but I'm technically Scottish. Most people think Scottish people have red hair too but Ireland is actually the only place that originally had redheads." Margaret blabbered on, awkwardly "but you probably already knew that." She usually said dumb things or talked too much when she felt wanted to be nice but she was too weird to know what to do. She smiled and waited for Robert's response.

The gave Peyton a second look and realized she was sleeping. "Nice to meet you, I'm Margaret," she said as she put her stuff under her seat, taking special care not to wake the sleeping girl. "So what part of England are you from? I come from Scottland, which isn't really a good impression on the Scottish redhead cliche." Margaret kept rambling on about her red hair for a bit. She seemed a bit nervous, making Robert realize that she was also totally out of her element on this train.

"I definitely noticed the red hair," Robert replied, pointing to his own ginger head. "I'm from London, but a very different London than this," Robert waved around at the train, trying to encompass all the people outside their compartment who were wearing wizard robes, casting spells, and generally being magical. He wanted to try and put Margaret more at ease by letting her know he also had reason to be nervous. "Both my parents are muggles. I didn't even know that I was magical until I got my Hogwarts letter! But I have to say, I'm super excited about being a part of this wizarding world! I mean, I grew up on fairy tales and stories of magic, but I never could have imagined that any of it was real!" Robert realized that his voice had started to rise, and made a noticeable effort to lower his voice again. "What about you?" he whispered. "Did you know about magic before you got your letter?"

"I definitely noticed the red hair" Robert responded to her jibber jabber. She realized she probably seemed self-centered. She blushed feeling embarrassed about how self-centered she was acting, she wasn't trying to be she was just nervous. Most people thought he was really talkative and extroverted because she talked so much but really along with saying stupid things and acting stupid she also talked more when she was nervous which was a weird habit.

"Oh yeah, I've had many experiences with magic." She replied after he asked, "did you know about magic before you got your letter?" She continued only a bit trying not to draw attention to herself. "Most of my family has some relation to magic. So what was your first experience with magic, I mean what was the first you preformed magic?"

She remembered her first time when she did magic, her parents were pretty proud but they weren't really shocked. They didn't care much either way, or that's what they said. Saying she would still be the same person with or without magic but she thought that was just parent talk. It didn't matter now, she was a witch so even if they would be disappointed in another squib child it didn't matter. She did think her parents didn't care much either way since they seemed to love her oldest brother just the same nr did they seem disappointed in him.

"Oh yeah, I've had many experiences with magic. Most of my family has some relation to magic," Margaret replied. This made Robert wonder a bit why she seemed so nervous, if she already knew all about magic. She definitely didn't seem like the kind of person who was afraid of meeting new people! "So what was your first experience with magic, I mean what was the first you preformed magic?" Margaret asked.

Robert thought back a bit. He'd never had a big, obvious, display of magic, but there had been a couple small, unexplainable instances that looking back had to have been due to magic. For instance, breaking his glasses right before going to bed, and waking up to find them fixed. "I think my first display of magic happened about a year ago. I had a paper for history class due the next day, and I hadn't even started. I knew exactly what I wanted to say, but somehow couldn't figure out how to start. I remember it was really late, and I was exhausted. I was just staring at my computer when suddenly, the keys started pressing themselves down on their own, and before I new it, had written out my entire essay! I told my parents about it in the morning, but they just said that I had been so tired I had forgotten writing it. Whatever really happened, that paper got a perfect score, even though history was my worst class!"

Robert realized he'd been talking for a while, and self consciously reached up to push back his glasses, before remembering he was wearing contacts. "What was the first time you performed magic?" he asked.

"That would be cool to have a paper written for you" Margaret replied to his first instance of magic. She liked writing and writing essays and things were the only easy part of school for her.

Margaret smiled as Robert pushed up his glasses that weren't there. Margaret had done that several times as well (it made her smile to know she wasn't the only one). She almost always wore glasses and when she didn't she would sometimes push them up because she couldn't see as well and she would trick herself that her glasses were sliding down her nose. She sometimes would get a small red dot in the middle of her nose from pushing up nonexistent glasses.

"I think my first instance of magic was 2 or 3 years ago when I was reading a book and it started flying around the room and when I opened the door to tell my parents it flew out like it wanted to escape and then fell at my feet. I always thought it was weird that we don't really do magic without a wand after our first few instances of magic." Margaret said wonderingly. "So are you muggle-born?" Margaret asked, kindly.

Margaret told Robert about her first instance of magic. A couple years ago, a book she was reading had started to fly around the room and out the door. This reminded Robert of "The Monster Book of Monsters" that he'd heard about while shopping at Flourish and Botts in Diagon Alley. Apparently, it used to attack anything that came near it, including the student that was trying to study from it. Margaret's book seemed much nicer though, like it was just excited to have the power of flight. He snapped out of his thoughts though when Margaret said, "So, are you muggle-born?"

"Sorry, your story reminded me of something I heard about earlier," Robert apologized. "Yeah, I'm a muggle-born. Ever since I got my letter, I've wondered how I ended up being magical even though neither of my parents are. Even after learning that there are other people who are also muggle-born, it just doesn't make sense. I mean, from a scientific perspective. How am I different from either of my parents? I know, it's magic, it doesn't need an explanation, but really, anything is magic until you know how it works. That's probably the thing I'm looking forward to most about Hogwarts, learning how magic works." Shoot, I did it again, Robert thought. "I'm really sorry, you probably don't care about that stuff," he said out loud. "What's it like growing up in a household full of magic?" he asked, trying to take the attention off of himself.
