Goat With a Cat’s Eye

Mizuki has been begging her father for a particularly long time. He was getting more stressed with every plea. A goat. Really? Yes, he knows his daughter adores them. Has tons of drawings on his refrigerator of different types of that animal. But getting a goat, especially CARING for one is quite difficult. And they don’t have the space where one could fit.
What could he do? He doesn’t have the heart to say no another type. The man just hopes she will forget. She doesn't. What surprise. Zuki had just finished school and arrived at his father’s clinic. She was quietly sitting on one of the beds, idly swinging her legs back and forth, watching her father. It went on like this for a while.
The little girl jumped off the bed to approach his dad on his break. He face palmed himself in his mind. “Yes, pumpkin?” He kept his voice calm and composed. “Do you think I can get a goat papa?” Mizuki repeated for the hundredth time in the past month. “I want a boy whose name is Myzo and he could be white.” Isamu suppressed a smile at her repeated words and sighed softly. “Mizuki, I know you really want a goat, but I told you, I don’t think we have the space for one. Our backyard is not very large, I’m afraid he won’t feel comfortable there.” Zuki sighed dramatically at that and nodded. She went back to the bed and sat down once again.
Isamu followed her with his eyes but eventually went back to work. He was thinking of an alternative her daughter would love. A dog? She would adore a dog around for sure. Maybe a calmer breed for his sake. But there’s no shelter around them so they would need to travel for a while.
He had been thinking about the possibilities for a week now when he saw a poster on his walk back home. One of the villagers’ cats had kittens and she wasn’t capable of taking care of so many animals as an elderly person. The man’s eyes lit up and he took the poster to show his daughter. When he got home he found Mizuki drawing another goat. He smiled and pecked her forehead. “Hey Pumpkin, I found a poster from Mrs. Addiss. Her cat had kittens a few months ago and she needs people who can care for them. Would you like to see them? We could bring one home for you. I know it’s not a goat but I think you would love to have a cat.” Zuki didn’t even hesitate to nod, got up from her chair in a millisecond.
Mrs. Addiss greeted them with a warm smile and ushered them in. She told them her cats were Silver Siberians she got from her son so she wouldn’t be lonely while he works abroad. He thought they were both girls but turns out that was very well not the case. She invited him for a tea which he gladly accepted. Mizuki was observing the cats with wide eyes. They didn’t seem scared of her in the slightest. She even picked up one who snuggled up to her and fell asleep in her arms. She looked at her dad, scared to move. He just chuckled. “Would you like to bring that one home? I think that's a boy.” Zuki gasped quietly. “He could be Myzo! Let’s name him Myzo!” The older woman laughed and nodded. “He is a boy, alright. The kindest one for sure. Perfect for you.”
After the tea, they walked home and settled down. They bought the necessary things for the kitten the next day and during the weeks, Zuki and her dad got him everything they thought he would love.
