Tranquility and Treacle Tarts
Gray clouds floated by overhead, threatening to bring rain to an otherwise quite palatable September day, the kind of day that warranted curiosity and exploration without going all too far for risk of being caught out in the coming deluge. The boathouse softly creaked with the wind, on occasion, one of the few noises besides the waves gently lapping against the woodwork. It was a soft kind of arythmic combination of sounds that was strangely soothing, and one of the reasons students would sometimes visit the place to find quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the castle and it's near-labyrinthine corridors.(Who? Initially @Bella Light, but anyone's free to join)
(When? Some time vaguely around the end of the first school month.)
(What? Just simple introductions, going with the flow of things.)
Today, one such student was Morigwynn, having elected to turn one of the boats upright within the boathouse itself, and sit in it almost as if it was going somewhere, at some point. A book was in her hands, of course, it was this years edition of 'Magical Theory', one of the books that was a necessary but sometimes dreaded read for firstyears. In the boat, on the seat next to her, was a small plate with two remaining treacle tarts, with a few different crumbs as evidence that other delectables may have been previously present. Enjoying the tranquility, and fully focused on reading the volume -yet again-, Morigwynn was immersed in her solitude, and deep in thought. So much so, that she would hardly hear anyone that decided to approach, unless they dedicated themselves to making noise...

So maybe Bella shouldn't have been singing on the top of her lungs outside that September day. Maybe she should have went to the rehearsal room, instead, and waited for the students who were using the room to finish. But to be fair, she hadn't known that there would be anybody else outside, for the sky was dark with gray clouds and rain seemed like a high possibility.
She started to hum to another song in her head as she walked the path to the boathouse. Bella wanted to get another good glimpse of it, as she hadn't truly explored there during the first day when she arrived at Hogwarts -- she had been too busy marveling over the beauty of the castle.
That was when she finally arrived at the boathouse and turned to observe her surroundings, she was completely startled when she saw a girl sitting in one of the boats with a book and two treacle tarts.
"Ah!" she cried, scrambling backwards. "Oh, I'm sorry! I was just surprised, that's all, that anybody would be here." She quickly regained her balance, smiling. "I'm Bella, first year Slytherin, nice to meet you! Ooh, are you reading? I love reading too! What book is that? What's your favorite book?"

Somewhere in her mind, she'd registered the distant humming coming closer, though it seemed like the distant, fading sounds of a daydream, right up until someone actually showed up. The book was shut with an audible *thud* that echoed in the boathouse, at the cry of the sudden Slytherin girl. Morigwynn's cheeks flushed slightly at the whelm of enthusiastic questions and introduction, any focus she'd had now being thoroughly disturbed. "Ahh! Uhh. It's, well-... What? Oh, h-... yes, it's-... uhh.", she muttered with a soft, melodic voice, and took a moment to compose herself, quickly ensuring no crumbs remained on her robes, as she spoke: "Well, uhh... I'm Morigwynn. Hello. It's uhm... just 'Magical Theory'... I'm not sure I have a favorite, yet...", she said a bit dismissively, not going into depth about her favorite books for just anyone.
She'd blink a few times, finally taking in whom was standing in front of her, quietly wondering how so many people she'd met could be so energetic and talkative, just like her older siblings. "Were you... singing? ... are you a part of the choir, or something? How's... Slytherin been, for you?, she asked with a soft smile."... want a treacle tart? I grabbed a few too many..."

Nearby and around the same time, Christian is climbing up one of the trees to get a better view of the lake, in order to draw a picture he can send home to his father. Christiaan was always a doodler, so much so that he got detention a few days earlier for drawing on a schoolbook, depicting a house-elf wearing a large bowler hat and a cheeky grin.
Christiaan managed to climb up high enough he could see the lake and many miles more, as well as the boathouse a few hundred yards away. He had not spotted the two girls talking. When he got nice and comfortable, he took out a pencil and a small piece of parchment and began sketching the lake. Underneath, he wrote:
"My uitsig oor die meer"
Or "My view of the Lake" in Afrikaans, which was Christian's first language, and despite living in Britain for several years now, he had not been able to drop the accent, usualy he tried and failed to hide it when talking. Whilst he was drawing, Christiaan was able to get into his own little space and was utterly oblivious to the fact that the branch he was sitting on was struggling to hold his weight.
Christiaan did not realise the error of his ways until the branch gave way with a SNAP, and Christiaan was sent tumbling to the floor with a THUMP. He was mainly unharmed as he landed on a patch of fresh grass that cushioned the fall. He sat looking dumfounded, and hoping that nobody had seen him just fall to save himself some embarrassment.
"Well bother."
He said, trying to hide his accent, which in actuality just made him sound like an upset Australian with a cold.

Bella's heart finally slowed down to a normal pace as she listened to the other girl -- Morigwynn -- answer the questions that had unknowingly spilled out of her mouth. Slightly flushed, she walked over until she was besides the boat.
"Oh, nice to meet you, Morigwynn! Can I call you Morig? Or Wynn? Or would you prefer your full name?" She asked curiously. "Oh...uhhh...I was just singing for fun! Nope, not part of the choir! I didn't know that anybody would be out here, given the weather." She glanced up at the clouds that seemed to be yelling rain any second now! "Slytherin is awesome! It was really fun meeting my housemates and stuff. You? And are you sure you don't mind if I have a treacle tart? Thank you so much!"
Bella was just about to take her first bite into the delicious tart when she heard a loud SNAP, followed by a THUMP. Worried, she quickly rushed over to the sound, where she heard a voice.
"Oh! Hi Christiaan!" she waved at the Slytherin first-year that she met on her first day. "Are you okay? I heard a loud noise, so I came to investigate. Wow...what is it with the three of us coming out here in bad weather to just do our own stuff? I LOVE it!"

Morigwynn ran her thumb over the corner of the book, back and forth, as she eyed the approaching Bella with a soft smile concealing some trepidation. "Uhm... I'd prefer you use my full name, but... I suppose Gwynn is fine, too...". She raised her eyebrows a little at the 'singing for fun' part, a little surprised at the confidence of someone just humming or singing out in public, on a whim. "I rather like the weather like this. Really brings out all the natural smells, and makes for cozy little spots like this, to take shelter at. Places you wouldn't otherwise visit.", she said with a soft nod. "Oh, Ravenclaw's been great, too! They really like to keep you on your toes with riddles and puzzles, and the like. But... also just in general, the magic behind the sorting hat alone is fascinating, having to consider the preferences of the four founding-- Ohh yes, please! Go on and take one!"
She was about to consider her next words or questions to the exciteable Slytherin girl, when they'd both heard the loud noises from outside, and she went to grab her things and trail after Bella to investigate what it was about. Peeking from around a corner, she was looking over Christiaan with some measure of curiosity and hesitation. She was quickly feeling more and more surrounded by Slytherins, by the moment.

"I came out here to get away from the third years in the common room," Christiaan said, swiping some leaves off his arms. He had not noticed the twig that had burrowed itself inside his curly blonde hair. "They were being too noisy while I was trying to write a letter to my father."
It was on the last word, the word 'Father ', that Christiaan's accent slipped out by accident with an acute roll of his tongue. He blushed for a moment, then caught his composure. He waves to Bella and then to Morigwynn, still not noticing the twig in his hair.
"Hello Bella, and hello to you too." Christiaan said to Morigwynn before getting distracted again and saying, "I wonder if there really are creatures who live in the lake."
Christiaan turned to face the large face of water behind him, and it reminded him of Lake Victoria, which he had only seen once when on holiday. Christiaan was like that, easily distracted and more like a Hufflepuff than a Slytherin; in fact, he had wanted to be placed in the latter and was still grappling with the disappointment of being placed in Slytherin.
Realising he is getting distracted again he turns to the two girls and offers a smile. "Sorry I get distracted easily, just ask any of the professors."

Word Count: 222OOC: I too, will be crashing in on this otherwise peaceful thread! XD a fellow bird is coming to save you Morigwynn!
Not far from the trio, another figure came tumbling out of a different tree a few feet away. Xio hit the ground with a heavy THUMP and let out a groan. After a impossibly quick moment, she rolled onto her side and pushed herself upright, springing to her feet like a sunflower finally finding a patch of sunlight after a long rainy storm.
“Well, good morning to me too! Dang!” she said more to herself with a laugh, brushing leaves and twigs from her robes. A few stubborn bits of leaf and stick remained tangled in her wild bundle of hair.
Only then did she notice Bella, Morigwynn, and Christiaan. Her face lit up, and she beelined for Bella, sweeping her into an enthusiastic, dusty and twiggy embrace—as if she hadn’t just fallen out of a tree herself.
“Belllaaa! Oh, and Morigwynn’s here too!” Xio pulled back just long enough to point at Christiaan. “And, um… you!”
“I was hunting for bird eggs when I heard your branch betray you,” she explained, still grinning. “Looks like the trees don’t like us climbing them!”
She shrugged as though this were an amusing bit of trivia rather than a warning. Judging by her expression, she fully intended to climb right back up as soon as the sting from her own first fall wore off.
"You look like you need some Pixy Stixs! Want one?"

Morigwynn's eyes went wide as yet another student came down from the trees. How many of their swaying branches concealed students almost seemed like something that was worth studying. She offered a soft smile as this, at least, was a familiar face, and not another unknown Slytherin sprouting from the shadows, or she might have begun to think this was some elaborate setup for a prank.
"Hello Xio! Nice to meet you, Christiaan. I'm Morigwynn.", she said, offering a gentle wave."And yes, it's true, I wouldn't dip your toes in the water, or the Grindylows might try to nibble at them. They're very temperamental.", she said very matter-of-fact, with a stern nod."There's also supposedly a giant squid in the lake, though I haven't yet seen a sign of them yet, but they're meant to be -massive-...", she said with a soft smirk, and a clear interest in the subject."Well... there -is- a lot to get distracted about... speaking of someone that gets distracted easily..."
She turned to Xio with a soft huff: "Are you allright? You're not trying to steal any bird eggs, are you? And besides, it's autumn, unless you're lucky, most eggs will be hatched, and nests will be empty besides maybe an owl's, or such...", she said, shifting the book in her hands and holding a plate with a single tart that threatened to slip and fall, at any moment, for she was paying no heed to it.

"Well, being distracted is also a sign of great creativity!" Bella remarked to Christiaan before she heard another loud noise. Turning around, she saw her friend, Xio.
Bella hugged Xio back, careful not to poke herself with any of the twigs that were sticking in Xio's hair, before remarking, "What is it with so many people wanting to come out today in this weather at this time in the exact same place? But it's amazing! I'm glad you're all here!"
She glanced up at the trees with the many frail branches.
"Yes, I don't think these trees were made for climbing. That being said, Xio, you are planning to climb back up later again, aren't you? And woah! Here, Gwynn!" Bella rushed forward and caught the remaining tart on the plate before it fell, placing it on the book once again.
And that was when she felt the first drop of something wet on her face.
"Hmm. Guys, do you feel that? I think it's raining?" Bella asked, placing her palm face-up to try to see if any water droplets will land. It was dry. "Huh. Never mind then!"
She had just finished talking when she felt another drop. Then another. Then suddenly, the rain poured.
Looking around at the others, Bella realized that they were all completely, utterly soaked.
"Well, that was a turn of events!" she remarked, starting to laugh. "What do you all want to do now?"
