to plant a garden,
is to believe in the future The time had come... for war. Due to no particular reason (actually, that was a lie. There was a reason. Rhea craved revenge against the greenhouses, for what they had done to her and Amadea their first year), Rhea had gathered up a group of the strangest group of people, and for what reason? That's right-
-To harass the greenhouses. Not the herbology professor, no. The greenhouses themselves. Rubbing her grubby little hands together, Rhea looked down at the costume she'd laid out in front of her. The other four costumes had already been delivered to her partners, and she expected them to show up at the greenhouse the same time she did: quarter past 9 pm.
It had taken her ages to finalize the mission, and her hard work had clearly paid off. The weeks (it took her less than a week, but she liked to dramatize things) it had taken her to figure out and design the costumes; the days (it took her less than a day) it had taken her to come up with a foolproof plan: it was all coming to fruition. A small cackle escaped her, but just for dramatic purposes, of course. Otherwise, Rhea would have sounded like a literal psychopath. It was no wonder her roommates worried for her, what with the incessant rambling under her breath (whenever it escaped the chaos of her mind) and the non-stop sewing, as well as the many pieces of parchment that had been wasted over the course of the week. Seriously, she sounded like a mad scientist. But she wasn't! Only a girl with a thirst for revenge.. against an inanimate building. Rhea shook her head, and with a wide grin, put on her costume.
---
The greenhouses were dark this time of night. It was hard to maneuver her way around the grounds with the large.. costume, but Rhea was determined. She had to make it to the greenhouse in time, she couldn't be late. Waddling right along, Rhea could see it in the distance. Internally, she cursed herself for the idiocy of the costume she was wearing. But it was a good disguise, and no one would be able to tell that it was her. There was no way that anyone, anyone, would expect students of Rhea, Eris, Max, Phaedra, and Marla's stature to dress up as... were those crayons?
But, what's done is done. Rhea had the mask on and everything, the hood thrown neatly onto her head with her blonde hair tied back. The jacket, which she had neatly embroidered, spelled out the words: "BAD BITCH GANG." At some point during the summer, Rhea had been introduced to the phrase. It had been through a Muggle magazine that a house elf had accidentally left lying around, and Rhea had taken a liking to the phrase. Due to that, Rhea had spent so, so much time embroidering the words onto each jacket. Each member had gotten their own color: Rhea, neon pink; Eris, neon green; Marla, neon yellow; Phaedra, neon blue (Rhea didn't know much about Phaedra so had stuck with blue the color of the Ravenclaw house); and Max, purple. After all, the point of their costumes was a disguise, not camouflage. Somehow, the group had been formed. The strangest group, as well. Sure, Max, Eris, and Rhea had previously known each other. Rhea had invited Marla along because of their brief time together in the library, and Max had brought Phaedra because she was one of his closest friends. Rhea had no complaints - the more the merrier, and she'd heard only positive things about Phaedra.
Anyway, for the rest of the costume (you couldn't possibly think it was done, right?) The tutus Rhea had picked out were a nice, dark camo colour, and under them leggings of the same colour. When she had sent the costumes out, Rhea had included a small message hidden between the bundles of clothing: 'you better wear them or else i'll cry.' So she expected each and everyone to wear them. Except for Max. Max was spared, but only a little bit. He still had to wear the neon pink jacket, but not the tutu. The camo leggings, though, made their appearance - and for him they were pink. Last but not least, she added Gucci cat ears that she'd had crafted just for him, as well as a whole cat mask. That was his disguise. Each one of them, apart from Rhea (who got a crown and a gold mask, because she was superior like that) got a nice addition to their costume. Eris got a lion headress, and a matching mask; while Marla got a tiger headress with a matching mask. Phaedra, for her luck, had gotten a majestic eagle headress along with a silver mask because Rhea didn't wanna scare her off too quickly. Each headress was in the shape of a crayon, but still were so unmistakably visible to be animals, somehow.
The five of them had met the day prior to discuss the final plan. They would raid the greenhouse, and... that's as far as they got. None of the group liked to think things through, but did it matter? No. The only thing all four of them knew was that they would invade the greenhouse and their ridiculous costumes and then, just, wait and see what would happen. Maybe the Devil's Snare, or whatever, would make its return. Or perhaps Rhea would accidentally knock her fist into the side of the greenhouse in an attempt to make it pay. It was all open for interpretation. Once she got there, Rhea was glad to see that they were all already there, wearing their costumes. She grinned excitedly, clapping her hands. "I have one last addition to your costumes," she declared, before reaching into her bag and withdrawing... 5 pairs of heelies. "For you," she gave one to Eris, Max, Marla, Phae, and put the last pair on herself, before standing back and looking back at her creation. "So, who's ready?"
the trouble is, if you don't risk anything -- you risk more.

the (attempted) murder of a greenhouse
Fuck plants. While Max didn't mind Herbology overmuch, he'd developed a deep and angry relationship with the Plantae kingdom ever since he'd gone for a walk in his mother's garden and gotten grabbed by a Venomous Tentacula. It had been humiliating, to scream wildly like a girl while Eliza nearly fell over herself laughing at him and only paused long enough to cast the Severing Charm to free him. The whole thing was stupid and he was still angry about it; plants should be stationary green things that made oxygen, not crazy grabby tentacles that could kill you. So yeah, fuck plants.
In his quest for vengeance, he may have accidentally mentioned his deep hatred and that may have somehow led to his being inducted into a group of crazy girls who had a plan to mess up a greenhouse or two. Most times he'd try to be on his best behaviour, but currently he wasn't Head Boy or Prefect or on the Newspaper or any other position he could get kicked out of. Sure, he was on the Quidditch team, but he was only second string and it wasn't like they had any backups for him. So if they - lord forbid - ended up in trouble because of this idea, the consequences couldn't really go beyond detention.
Unfortunately, due to Rhea being the one who came up with the costumes, the consequences of doing this could be ghastly for his school reputation. One look at the package she had sent and he was ready to give up completely; especially considering the fact that he was only the boy. Rhea and Eris - despite being good friends of his - were nuts and he had a feeling they'd do anything to embarrass him. Marla Quinlan was someone he didn't know too well (he was, of course, aware she was a prefect and the co-captain of the Quidditch team), but if she was in on this then he doubted her sanity as well. The only good person coming was Phae and that was because Max had invited her; they needed another logical brain in this mess and she was the most logical person he knew. Hopefully she could help keep the other girls from burning down the school when they inevitably developed even bigger plans.
Letting out a long, exasperated sigh, Max snapped out of his thoughts and forced himself to face reality as he approached the area he was supposed to meet the girls. Luckily, Marauder's Map was the most useful thing he'd ever bought; it was the only reason no one had caught him sneaking through the hall in pink and purple with a cat mask on. Try to explain that without looking suspicious or off your rocker.
Lifting the ornately crafted mask to reveal a tired, worried face, he waited while everyone showed up and they crowded around to discuss the plan. It would have to be big and elaborate to make up for just how bad these costumes were; if they were going to get in trouble, they'd better earn it. Rhea, naturally, was the last to show up, and Max made a choking noise in the back of his throat at her newest addition to their costumes.
"Is that really necessary?" he asked, even as he accepted the heelies and crouched down to put them on. "We're going to crash through a wall or something. While I'm ready to pull a prank, I'm not ready to die because of your obsession with stupid Muggle shoes."
"There’s something brittle in me that will break before it bends."

the (attempted) murder of a greenhouse
Eris didn’t even like the colour green. Nor did she like neon. Or the fact she was dressed as a giant crayon. Humilation was not something she wanted to deal with. So, before leaving the common room, Eris had used her metamorphmagus abilities to her advantage. She had altered her appearance until she looked nowhere near close to her usual self. She now looked like an insane blonde girl, as she galivanted through the halls.
This whole idea felt extremely strange to Eris. She had nothing against the greenhouse, really. Considering the fact she’d applied for prefect and was trying not to be violent, it was even stranger that she was now destroying a greenhouse because her friends apparently hated … plants? Oh, well. It wasn’t like she was actually going to manage to get through a year nonviolently. Plus, there was a prefect joining them in this late-night mission. Her name was Marla and she was a pureblood. If a prefect could be violent, then Eris could basically do anything. That was a logical assumption to make, totally.
Eris had no idea who Marla was, besides the fact she was a prefect and a pureblood. She looked just like Eris, but wasn’t Eris. Maybe Rhea had thought she was Eris when inviting her. But, Marla was invited and that was that. Eris had seen her briefly at the thing Rhea had insisted it was a meeting. It was really just Rhea acting like a madwoman and screaming for a good five minutes, while everyone looked on in horror. Then Rhea had thrown masks and jackets up into the air like party favours. Honestly, if there was anything to be learned from this.. It was that Rhea was mentally unstable and needed some help. Like, serious help.
As Eris strolled through the hallways, looking like a blonde girl and not a problematic cousin of an insane person, she easily made it outside and towards the greenhouse. Deciding not to drop her guise just yet, Eris strolled up towards the group of students and plastered a grimace onto her new face.
Still disguised as the blonde girl, Eris took off the mask and headdress and stalked towards where she saw her friends. “What are you students doing out of your dorms?” Eris questioned, in a warbling fake tone of voice. She couldn’t change her voice, but attempted to make her tone sound different. Instead, she sounded like Pennywise the dancing clown. Not that Eris would know who that was. Giving them a moment to appropriately react, Eris couldn’t help but grin.
She flipped the blonde hair out of her face, giving the gathered students a stern look that then vanished, as she giggled and concentrated on reverting back to her usual form. Within seconds, Eris was back to her normal redheaded self. She stuck her tongue out at Max and Rhea, looking down at her outfit and scowling. “Why the fuck are we doing this?” Eris proclaimed loudly, adjusting the lion crayon on top of her head. She had just learned that it was okay to use that particular curse word and loved it. She felt grown up using the real teenager curse words, even if they hadn’t been allowed over the summer. Revelling in her total coolness, Eris spun around to take stock of her friends.
It was at this moment that she noticed Max’s cat ears in their purple and pink glory. Eris choked and violently cackled, the noise even louder than her apparent cuss. “What in the name of Merlin’s saggy left tit is that?” Eris guffawed, forgetting how stupid she looked. Shaking her head, it was with a laugh that Eris finally noticed the shoes.
What in seven hells were those? Eris peered down at the shoes, wrinkling her nose in distaste. “Muggle shoes? Do I have to wear muggle shoes?” She started to say but realizing that her grandmother had often stressed the importance of muggle clothing and how it technically didn’t count as technology or anything dangerous, Eris scowled and slowly accepted her pair of shoes, putting them on with an unhappy expression. She didn’t like wearing something that was created by muggles. It felt like a betrayal of her new ideology that muggles and their creations were all bad. But still, she slipped them onto her feet.
“How did you even get all this stuff, Rhea?” Eris questioned, clicking her new hateful shoes together, having to admit that she kind of liked them.
