The girl startled. Her back stiffened before she could turn around to see who was behind her. It was Zephyr. Of course. He was exactly the sort of person who would join something like this, cheerful and positive in a way that felt almost opposite to Skylar, who had spent most of the day sitting alone and mumbling to herself as though there were a hollow space inside her that she could not quite fill. “Oh.” She said softly, unsure whether he was still angry with her after the argument they had had. She glanced at the ornament beside him, then at the materials scattered around them. “Have you finished your ornament?” She leaned slightly closer, examining what he had been working on before looking back at her own notebook. “I was thinking I could attach this to the plastic, but I can’t decide which one to use.” Skylar opened her notebook and laid it out in front of him, turning it toward him so he could see the stuffed leaves and flowers. Several different kinds of them had been placed through the pages: maple, oak, birch, mint, ivy, sage, balm, rosemary, lavender, daisy, and chamomile. She had spent far longer choosing them than she probably should have. “What do you think?” Her eyes remained on Zephyr, though there was a faint uncertainty in her expression, as if she was not entirely convinced that he could actually help her make the decision. After a moment, she sighed. “Or should I just draw something and get this over with?” Skylar was not someone who liked giving up easily. But today was different. Her thoughts were scattered everywhere, refusing to settle long enough for her to focus on even the smallest task. Somehow, even this little festive ornament had become difficult to finish. Merlin knew what had happened to her heart, but even he could not fix it. When something cracked, perhaps it was only a matter of time before it broke completely, just like what she was feeling. Skylar’s gaze slowly drifted upward, following the snowflakes falling above them. She said nothing more, simply waiting for Zephyr to answer. |

Ornament Decorating Table

" Ah! We love someone who can get something decided before a countdown!" Love- he didn't quite understand. But the sentence itself was used a lot among online atmospheres so he merely mimicked what he knew might fit this situation. At the very least he would guess that he WAS grateful for the strangers quick response.
" I like you. You don't ask a lot of questions. And I barely understand you. Which is awesome!'" he was, he noticed- was in a moderately more positive mood. He would only much later be able to truly contemplate how much this strangers demeanor intrigued him. Why - he wasn't sure yet. Just that he wasn't exhibiting expressions or body language that indicated he was experiencing negative leaning emotions at the others reaction.
But his focus would be redirected back to the ornament. He was okay enough at the agreement that he was looking forward to just drawing in silence, but the others words... made Demo want to reply. This (as in the ornament) was not the only important activity to him, it seemed. He could multitask.
With pencil in hand, he switched between looking at the stranger and drawing what he could from their features.
" It only makes the most sense to me" he comments at the tree on a tree mention. " If I am breaking rules, someone should just tell me straight, else I don't care if I am" he shrugs, " I dunno what you mean by orange" he says, though his tone indicated it was more like a question. " Well- whatever, you can draw me all you'd like. I don't know why though. Do you always try to draw people on ornaments? "
