Cirrus was silent when he invited her to play with him sometime. It wasn't that his offer caught her off guard, well... maybe a little. But it was the words preceding the request that lodged themselves somewhere in her mind and chose to live there.
I'm glad I met you here today.
She had no idea what to do with that.
It was such a simple thing to say, yet Cirrus found herself deeply affected by it. Whether that irritated her or disarmed her, she wasn't entirely sure. Maybe because she didn't necessarily meet people and have them think their interaction was meaningful. Cirrus had only approached because she heard music, introduced herself on some inexplicable impulse, awkwardly rambled on about an instrument she didn't play for what was probably an unforgiveable amount of time, and somehow Zephyr had decided that meeting her had been a good thing.
Well Zephyr, for one, hadn't ridiculed her. Hadn't told her to shut up. Hadn't told her to be gone. Cirrus was sure if it were anyone else she managed to stumble upon, she would have been met with all three of those things at once. But Zephyr enabled her. And maybe it was a good thing they met.
"Yeah... I'd like that." She murmured, looking down to worry at her sleeve as a faint smile tugged at the corners of her mouth.
There was something relieving about the idea of playing music with him. She wouldn't have to worry about topic of conversation, how long was appropriate to hold eye contact, whether or not she was standing too close to seem weird. She could just do what she did best and play. Music was a much easier and natural language than conversation ever could be. She could dare say she was excited for the collab and was already considering all the possibilities.
"I would probably bring my guitar... Unless you'd rather do something else." Cirrus' expression became thoughtful as she continued, picking up her familiar momentum once again. "I could play accompaniment while you handle the melody. Or we could switch parts depending on the song."
She would have went on with specific parts in a song's structure but then came the realisation that she was yet again doing more talking than asking. She had to be considerate, especially if she didn't want him to change his mind. She slowed down the velocity of selective persona and looked up at him as she continued.
"You said you mostly play folk, right? So I suppose it depends on what you know... I could learn something if you have a particular song you like." She offered with a slight lilt in her voice. "Or we could just improvise. Although, I suspect that may be difficult if we are not accustomed to each other's playing style..."
Cirrus paused as the feeling of social cluelessness returned to her. Where to go from here? When was an interaction meant to stop at a comfortable point that didn't invite ill suspicions but didn't require overstaying one's welcome? Statement. Question. Silence. No. She'd choose sincerity. And a thought occurred to her.
"Actually... what sort of music do you listen to?" Cirrus tilted her head slightly, appearing far more interested now than she had throughout the entire conversation. And the thoughtfulness came. The honesty. The sincerity.
"Because I think that's much more important than deciding who gets to play what." Her dimples showed themselves as she smiled, small but definitely there. And definitely genuine.
"Music is much more fun when you actually like what you're playing. When you feel what you're playing."
