— ❖ "Accidental" fire in the woods! ❖ —
First Year • Slytherin House

Silas is not quite aware of it yet but his first major mistake is about to be made. See he recently learned a dueling spell from the library and would really like to test it out. In his man everything is accounted for. Sure he's doing it on grass but he made a small tower of stones around it and surely that should contain everything. It isn't as if he's some advanced wizard who can make a inferno! He steps back marveling slightly at his handy work.

“Right then that should do it. No point in wasting time. ” He points the wand and guides his wand as the textbook works, almost in the very shape of a flame. As he does this he proclaims the proper incantation and is ecstatic as it works... Wait it's working a bit too well. Oh dear the fires spreading. “Incendio! HA! LOOK AT THAT, oh... hm that's not... oh dear.” He nearly falls over as he attempts to stomp it out.

Clearly the walls were not quite as tight as he thought it was... And he may have over done it with the extra kindling from the dry leaves of the forest. He simply wanted to see if it was possible to make a small campfire. Evidently it was possible a little too much so. As he stomps out the fire his cloak briefly catching on fire before he pats it out.“Oh how frustrating! The smoke plume can clearly be seen for quite a distance, come on fire please just go out so I can run please.” Despite his panic he's doing a pretty decent job putting it out.

Hearing a sigh he has half a mind to turn before realizing in truth this is quite bad. I mean if he was a professor he would think he was setting things on fire just for fun. With worry and overthinking rising in him he suffers for only a moment before a gust passes him snuffing out the flame. Huh, how convenient. Whomever cast that could likely teach him such a spell. He turns to see who it is and his eyes widen a bit.

“Ah I see, hello there. Yes I was attempting some practice though truth told I did not think to learn how to extinguish a flame after I made one. That spell you had there was quite handy. Extinguo yes? Where did you learn that? I must not have done the lesson yet.” He pats off a bit of the char before standing a bit straighter.

“Have you taken part in any duels yet? You seem resourceful. I believe I have much to learn in regards to magic.” He is doing his best to hide it, giving her back a weak nervous smile but the truth of it is his heart is still racing quite a bit. He would DESPISE, having to sit in detention. Being forced to sit, write words over and over again. That sounds completely awful... Though then again that's muggle detention.. Now Silas is a bit curious how detention looks in the Wizarding world.

"Okay. Time for a break."

Bella placed her papers and quill into her bag, zipping it up before standing up. She had been working on homework outside for the last hour or so, as well as doing some studying just in case. She decided that she needed to stand up and walk around, or she will probably answer every single question wrong due to boredom and exhaustion.

As she strolled along the trails, humming to herself to clear her mind, her nose caught a faint trail of smoke. She frowned. When she looked up, she could see a plume of smoke rising up, up, up, before fading into the blue sky.

Following the smoke, she heard them before she saw them. There was laughter and talking, confirming that she was at the right place. Bella saw the last wisps of the fire being extinguished on the ground, as well as two students she recognized. She waved as she stepped out of the trees into the wider, open area where they both were at.

"Xio! Silas! Are we creating a fire today?" Bella grinned, slightly concerned but also curious. "I saw the smoke from where I was standing, and I thought to come investigate!"

"The sun rises and the sun sets. Then, it repeats."

Initially Silas is quite happy to see Bella as he has seen her around quite a bit. Then he remembers he is gaining a audience. One he was TRYING to avoid. Sighing to himself he smiles responding to her.

“Hey Bella, not entirely on purpose as I was simply testing a spell I learned and it... well it went a bit out of my control before this young lady helped me out thankfully.” Silas hearing her cast the spell that got him in this mess makes his face go white. Oh dear... Seems he really invited trouble how... Unlike him really, this is exactly what he gets for using magic unsupervised. Hearing her coax them into possibly making the fire bigger his eyes widen a bit as he responds.

“Oh dear that sounds like a quick way to end up in trouble, I must insist we DO NOT do that. I feel like its highly likely a professor is ALREADY making there way here I was hoping to you know... Put the fire out and run now make it worse. Surely Bella you can back me up on this?” He says this almost pleadingly but in reality he has not a clue if she will back him up on this or not. She, to him, is just as likely to side for a bigger fire.

Bella's eyes widened, staring up at the HUGE fire Xio created. Unfortunately, she has not yet learned either Extinguo or Incendio, and she only knew the sparks charm in case they really needed help.

Bella tilted her head, looking around. There were A LOT of trees, and she knew from experience how dangerous forest fires can be. On one hand, she did believe that Xio had control over the fire. On the other hand, the rational part of her screamed that she should stop her friend in case the three of them all get detention. But what could she do?

"I don't know either Extinguo or Incendio yet. I think I'll be learning it soon, though! So in this case, I can't side with either of you," she grinned. Then, her smile faded as she looked up at the smoke drifting up into the sky.

"In that case, though this is really fun, the smoke -- and the fire that is reaching for the trees -- could be dangerous," Bella muttered, looking around. She quickly added, "Of course I think you have total control over the fire, Xio! I just don't want to risk the whole school getting burned because of us. OR getting detention on the -- what -- first few months of school?"

"Actually," Bella glanced at Xio. "I take that detention part back. I'm probably going to get in trouble a lot this year no matter what. You are a crazy influence, making me do things I would never do." Bella smiled to show that she meant it in a good way. "Really. And honestly, wizard detention is probably going to be interesting..."

Bella sighed. "I'm going to think that its going to be fine. Because its not like I can do anything to stop you or help you, right?" She shrugged, not making it clear who she was talking about. "Just telling you that although I believe in you very much, Xio, fires are powerful." She shuddered, remembering the time when a school friend's house burned down when they were nine.

Xio groaned in disappointment when she realized neither Bella nor Silas seemed willing to join in her chaos. She stomped a foot and complained slightly, "Oh c'mooon it's just a fire! Besides, why teach us spells if we can't figure out how to use them, right?"

But as she looked at the fire at their feet she realized their reluctance was fair enough—if the fire grew any larger, all three of them could be caught, and soon after, would receive punishment. She sighed and turned toward the flames, begrudgingly lifting her wand.

“Extinguio!”

The spell should have snuffed out the fire at their feet. Instead, something went wrong. Maybe she’d lost focus; maybe her wand movement was off. Whatever the reason, the magic buckled and burst back toward the three standing there in a sudden gust.

Wind swept through the trio, whipping at their clothes and sending leaves and dirt past them. Xio stumbled backward, caught her heel on her own foot, and went down onto the ground with a thump. The fire, meanwhile, continued to burn brightly in front of them, entirely unimpressed.

“O-oops! Err…” Xio groaned softly as she lifted herself from the ground and stared at the flames, then at her wand. “That was supposed to do the opposite..."

"You look like you need some Pixy Stixs! Want one?"

He sighs when the spell did not properly resolve it this time. A old trick he used as a kid, essentially you grab anything to smother the flame. Regardless of how big it is fire needs a fuel source and oxygen. Unfortunately there is quite a bit of fuel nearby however as for oxygen that can be dealt with. He begin digging dirt out with his hand. He begins to do his best to toss large clumps of the flame to calm it down.

“Bella I am aware it is quite dirty but could you aid me in this? As for you Xio simply stay calm and continue attempting to use your spell. We will do our best to buy you time or simply put it out.” He moves as fast as he can, at this point he is just hoping this won't spread any further. In truth this somewhat relies on Xio to properly use her spell but he did not want to tell her that. Regardless one way or the other this would be resolved. All he can hope is that it does not end with him in detention and having to explain his actions. How troublesome, his mother would throw a complete fit if she found out how much of a trouble maker he was becoming.

OOC Notes: Since the start of this threat I have gained access to a lot of spells but since I did not have it at this time, I will pretend I do not lol.

Bella's eyes widened when her friend casted the extinguishing spell, only for it to...not work. In fact, the fire might have actually grown bigger than before!

"Oh no...that was what I was scared of," Bella muttered, before perking up. "It's okay! We can do this the muggle way!"

She turned to Silas, who was starting to pick up clumps of dirt and throw it at the fire.

"Sure! It's okay, I don't mind dirtiness at all! Besides, I think I might have a quicker way," Bella explained, taking off her jacket that she had tied around her waist. "Here, let's try scooping the dirt into my jacket and tossing ALL the dirt into the fire at once? Let's just be careful not to burn the jacket, though! We also need to contain the fire, so if we could clear the grounds near the fire, that would be helpful. Umm...do we have water? Or Xio?" Bella walked over to her friend. "Xio, you can do this! Just concentrate! No rush! You got this!"

Bella then bent down and started scooping dirt into her jacket, which she had placed on the ground. "I'm sure with the three of us working together, we can figure this out!"
