Trekking Adventure
This thread is part of the EXPLORE THE WILDERNESS EVENT.
You must have participated in the tent set up errand to join this event
TREKKING
To start the third day of their adventures in Uagadou, students would enjoy some time trekking through the wilderness of the mountains. Students were ushered after breakfast to the grassy fields once more and taken to the edge where they had previously met for the guided walk. Today, however, the students would be having a little more freedom so to speak. They would be able to explore the area more than just on the trail. After taking some necessary precautions to put up a magical border to keep students from going to far up into the icy north of the mountain or out to far where the more dangerous wild animals ran, the students were given a map of the area that was enchanted to show where they were and where the meet up point was, both spots would glow a golden color on the page to help the students on their journey. Also prepared for the students were packs that held water bottles and some snacks as the students would likely be out exploring for a while. Nadira had taken extra care consulting with her staff and experts in crafting the event for the students to be able to safely learn and explore on their own.
Nadira stood in front of the students as they gathered into little groups, smiling as she began to speak. "Dearest guests, please use your maps wisely to make your way around. I look forward to hearing of your adventures upon your return this afternoon." She hoped the students would enjoy getting to be able to freely move on their own without a guide so they could make some memories while exploring the landscape. Although she hoped the staff were not going to have to go out and find any lost students later on, especially since they still had another event later on in the day.
Trek Area Info
Students will leave from the starting point and be able to explore in different directions, each will have different things in the area to check out. By the end of the trek students should be able to make their way to the meet up spot that will lead them out to the area the erumpent encounter thread will take place at. You don't have to visit every area just go wherever your heart takes you and have fun exploring.
The northern area would include a denser forest with a light fog rolling through it. The further north they go into this area the heavier the fog becomes and the more their sense of distance would become affected. In this area students are likely to find different species of birds, mundane and magical, that have made their home in the dense forest. Many plants can be found within this area, moss growing on trees, giant lobelias and giant groundsels.
To the west students would be able to explore through giant heather trees, bushes and ferns and, if they make it to the farthest point allowed in the bordered off area, students would be pleased to find a waterfall that fed into a river that flowed down the mountain. Students could also get a surprise visit by some Colobus Monkeys on their trek as well as some otters swimming in the river.
If the students chose to go south they would eventually move into the start of the dense bamboo forest of the mountain. As they traverse this area students might be lucky enough to spot the Black Eagle's nests, and maybe even the bird itself if they are really lucky. While traveling through this area students have the possibility of coming across a strange area where some large rocks were placed in a circle. They were deliberately placed there and look to be weathered and very old. Upon closer inspection they would find ancient carvings on the rocks that showed some of the early tribe members, the moon, one showing the girl who was said to visit the prospective students dreams, animals, and others that had been so worn you couldn't tell what they were (maybe some students would be able to take some guesses).
- All site rules apply to this event, minimum word count of 200 words must be met forTREKKING THREAD INFORMATION
- Please do not god mod anyone without permission
- The above information is a guide for what you could see on the trek but feel free to get creative (if you are interested in more animals, plants and flora you can check out the Rwenzori Mountains of Uganda as that is said to be where the school is located). Don't be afraid to ask me if you have any questions about the area or want to check if something would make sense.
- Any questions please feel free to owl Emery Albrecht or Nadira Bakari

____On her third day in Uagadou, Millie tighten up and double knotted her shoelaces once she's done with her breakfast and went on to the grassy field when yesterday they also had a tour around. She grabbed the map were given to her by one of the staffs, unfolding it before her face, and noting each points which drawn there. The most noticeable two glow a golden colour. One is nearest for where she is, while the other she assumed as their final meeting point. Although Millie felt unsure herself with mapping, unless she's gotten used of the track, she just hope these glowing point can help her navigating her direction.
____So once she's done filling up her ammunition into her bag and pocket, Millie moving her feet northwards. Because this mountain is foreign for her, Millie kept her lack of knowledge and curiosity to the later. She wants to enjoy step by steps to the direction she had chose from the three options since she cannot go into all of them in the short time nor she can split herself to three pieces.
____Throughout the track, Millie frequently stop to pulled out her pocket journal and sketched some unique floras she had encountered. Plant, or maybe flower, which have that swollen part near its crown. Another flora she found had this looked like long furry or prickly. But when she came closer to it, that's actually was its leaves that arranged in sort of overlapping layers from its base and tapering upwards. The kinds she maybe never seen again when she got back to England. But because she don't know what its name, she left her sketches unnamed for the time being until she climb back down and maybe can asks directly to Uagadou Headmistress, if she still remembers.
____Higher she climbed, more thicker the fog which surrounding her had became. Millie slower her pace as her precaution, yet still continue onward with her left hand grabbing the map and her journal in her right hand.
____Later on, she once again stop her movement when she heard plenty of birds chirping overhead. She looked up, witnessing some birds flew freely toward the horizon while some just perched on the tree branches. She believes one of it is the Rwenzori Turaco she saw yesterday and the other has crimson beaks and also on the top of its body. Not wanting to miss this moment, she quickly sketched them on her journal's page before they quickly left her unfinished.
____"At last, I know one thing that even Papa has never seen before." The girl murmured just above a whispers while her hand still busy scratching a sketch of bird in her peripheral. She had scooted closer to the tree, not wanting to get in the way of people trying to pass by. Ignoring the fact that her sketch doesn't resemblance much to its original object, she snickered while added, "He'll definitely envy me."

Elara looked over the map while standing near the edge of the grassy field. There were a few directions she could take, but the western area sounded interesting. A waterfall, a river, and plenty of plants were marked along the way. A waterfall sounds nice. That was enough to make up her mind. The map went back into her pack, and she headed west. The grass soon gave way to bushes and ferns. Some of the plants were taller than Elara, making it harder to see much further ahead. Giant heather trees stood around the area too, their branches spreading above her. She slowed down when one of the bushes caught on her sleeve. "Oops." After freeing herself, Elara checked her clothes before continuing. The ground gradually became uneven. She had to step around some of the larger roots and rocks along the way. Every now and then, the sound of birds came from somewhere in the trees. Elara stopped when she heard something else. Water. It was faint at first, but the sound became clearer as she walked further west. She looked at the map again. The waterfall should be somewhere near the edge of the area they were allowed to explore.
A few more minutes passed before she could see it between the trees. It's prettier than I expected. Elara's face lit up. The waterfall wasn't as close as it first looked. Water fell down the rocks into the river below, which continued along the mountain. She found a spot where the ground was clear and sat down for a moment. I could stay here for a while. The river looked peaceful. Elara took out her sketchbook and rested it on her knee. She started with the trees around the water, then added the waterfall in the distance. It wasn't going to be her best drawing, but she liked having something to remember the place by. A movement near the river made her pause. Elara looked over. She couldn't tell what it was from where she sat. She stayed still for a moment, watching the water. Nothing else caught her eye. Maybe it had just been the movement of the plants. She closed her sketchbook and put it away. Before leaving, Elara checked the map again. The meeting point was still marked in gold. There was plenty of time left, so she decided to stay around the river a little longer before making her way back.

It was the third day at Uagadou, and Bella excitedly waited for that day's event. After breakfast, they were taken to the place where they met for the guided walk. However, Bella was delighted that they would be able to explore by themselves, given the chance to take a magical map and just have fun walking around! She gripped her backpack, ready for the adventure that was sure to come.
Bella checked her map, taking note of the place she was at now, the meetup spot she had to be in a few hours, and the areas she could go to. She noted that the northern area would be a dense forest with plants and animals. She thought that sounded nice, though she remembered how the insects absolutely loved her during the guided walk. Hmm...maybe not?
Shaking her head, she checked west. There seemed to be a waterfall, which sounded so nice, as well as monkeys and otters. There would also be a river that Bella was excited to go to, if she chose that path.
To the south was the dense bamboo forest of the mountain. Bella was about to just skip over it (for the same reason as north), but she was instantly interested in the mention of strange giant rocks.
But for the sake of her skin (and also for later, when the mosquito bites would be itching like crazy), Bella decided that she would go WEST.
As she walked, she wanted to take out her notebook that she always carried with her to make some notes down. However, she resisted because she realized the best snapshot was her memory, and to just experience nature at its best.
It was quiet, and Bella could hear her footsteps over the path. She looked around in amazement at all the different types of bushes, trees, and ferns.
Finally, she heard the sound of rushing water. It was the waterfall! Grinning, she ran over to the river, whipping out her notebook to write some observations down, when she noticed another girl sitting by the river, sketching. As she came closer, the same girl took out the map to check the time.
"Hi, Elara!" Bella exclaimed. The girl she saw was her friend, Elara Whitlock, who was also her tentmate! "Isn't the waterfall so beautiful? And nature? And the plants and river? Oh, I saw you sketching earlier when I reached the waterfall. This place is really good for inspiration, isn't it?"

Elara looked up when she heard her name. "Hi, Bella!" She smiled when she saw her friend and moved her sketchbook slightly so there was some space beside her. Bella was already talking about the waterfall. "Yeah, it's really pretty." Elara looked back at it. She had been sitting there for a while, but she still hadn't got tired of looking at it. "I knew there was a waterfall here. I just didn't expect it to be this nice." Her fingers rested on the edge of her sketchbook. "I heard the water first. I thought it was going to be somewhere further away, but then I found this." She turned the book around a little. The drawing was still unfinished. The waterfall was there, along with a few of the trees around it. "I started drawing it because I liked the view."
Elara looked at the page and then at the waterfall again. "It doesn't look quite the same." A quiet laugh escaped her. "The water is hard to draw." She closed the sketchbook halfway but didn't put it away yet. Bella had mentioned nature being good for inspiration. Elara looked around at the trees, ferns and river. "I think there are too many things to draw here." She looked towards the river. "Every time I look somewhere else, there's something different." The water continued down the mountain. Elara watched it for a few seconds before looking at Bella again. "Are you writing about the waterfall?" Her eyes went to Bella's notebook. She shifted a little on the ground, making herself more comfortable. "Have you seen any monkeys or otters yet?" Her gaze returned to the river, wondering if she might spot an otter. It's nice here. Maybe I'll finish this before we leave. She opened her sketchbook once more and rested it on her knee.

Rosamund stared disbelievingly at the map that was given to her. There was really only one thought in her mind:
Freedom.
For the past few days since they got here, she'd been itching to explore the forest herself, get lost in a grove of giant, mossy heather trees through the mists and watch animals moving around in their natural habitat. After the guided walk the previous day, she thought that that was the extent of their trek through the forest. She never expected that the school would actually, willingly unleash them unsupervised to the wilderness. She didn't know who could bring more damage to whom: The students or the forest?
Nevertheless, she won't ignore the gift either, promptly collected her pack of provisions, and checked her map. In their limited interactions with each other, her father had always instilled to her the advantage of prior knowledge in every situation or interaction; she felt that this was no different. It always pays to know what situation she could most probably end up, so that she would always be prepared to react most advantageously.
She wanted to explore every area within the map's boundary that she could, so she carefully mapped out her trek: She decided to start to the north where she could check the thick, dense, foggy forest, work her way to the west to the giant heather trees, follow the river to the south where the bamboo forest was, before going to the rendezvous spot glowing on the map.
She also decided to diligently time her progress so that she can explore as much of the areas as she can and still have time to walk her way to the other areas without losing precious time. So, she thought that she'd have to have reached and explored the northern areas by 10 in the morning before she had to start making her way down to the western areas so that she'd reach the river by noon where she'll stop for a brief lunch and a quick look around. Then, she'll have to start trekking south by 1 pm so that she can reach the southern areas by 2 or 3 pm, giving her ample time to look for a Black Eagle's nest or the ancient carved stones, before she had to start going to the rendezvous spot.
When she felt ready, she made one last cursory check of her pack of supplies, her map, and her makeshift walking stick. Laying her wand flat on her palm, she cast the Point Me spell to orient herself north and started trekking towards her first adventure to the wilderness.

The map was the first thing Zephyr studied while eating breakfast. He was not worried about getting lost, he just wanted to know how much of the area they were allowed to explore. Would they be allowed to leave the usual trail and choose where he wanted to go? Usually, he's the kind who doesn't follow the guided walk. The Headmistress explained the boundaries and while she's doing that, he was checking against the golden markers from the map, it showed their starting point and the place they needed to return to later. He put the map somewhere easy to reach for later use. For the trek, he kept his clothes simple, he wore dark trousers that he doesn't mind getting dirty, a light grey long sleeved shirt with the sleeves pushed up, a dark green jacket for when the weather becomes cold, and sturdy boots just in case they deal with muddy terrain. They were provided bottled water, snacks, map and anything else that might actually be useful. He also brought his wand with him at all times.
He took some time to look around before choosing a direction he wanted to explore. There was greenery everywhere you looked. If you love plants so much, you'll appreciate the trees, bushes, ferns and plants he had never seen at home. His mom would have loved this. She would spend half the trek stopping to look at plants and trying to remember the names of everything. His dad would enjoy it too, but he would be more interested in how the land was shaped and what kind of work it would take to maintain something like this. And his little sister, aah Zaria would be unbearable about it. She would be asking a hundred questions before they can even make it past the starting point. He was planning to take some time with this, as he rarely got to see places like this, and there was no reason not to bring a piece of it home with him.
He chose to go west, following the map while keeping an eye on his surroundings. The giant heather trees were the first thing he paid attention to. They were unlike the trees around Aelwyd Vale. Ferns and bushes grew in between those trees. The farther he walked, the quieter it became. The voices of the other slowly faded behind him until they were replaced by the sound of birds and the wind moving through the leaves. After some time, he stopped to drink from his water bottle, and, in doing so, he kept looking out through the trees. He was comfortable here, he's always loved being surrounded by so much green regardless of where he was. When something moved in the bushes, he whipped around to see what it was but didn't see anything.
