I Miss You…

He was striding toward the owlery, ready to see Perseus and send him on a flight to his dad, with photos and a letter attached. Plus, Perseus loved Detek’s dad. He would always brush him, then feed him some Owl Treats which he seemed to never run out of, and give Perseus a comfortable cushion he’d sleep in, which Perseus quite liked. He loved being treated like royalty.
As Derek crossed the threshold of the Owlery, he paused. Something wasn’t right. Did I leave something in the dormitory? I was sure I have everything. Or is it my clothes? Are they inside out again? Derek flipped through his bundle. His photos of him and his friends were intact, so was the letter. He checked his clothes and was relieved to see they were right side out, so there was that. He shrugged off the nagging doubt and stuffed it in the back of his mind, which was crammed with thousands of concerns he’d stashed away during the 13 years he’s been on this earth. Perhaps not the most psychologically correct move, but it was fine. For now.
As Derek tried to find Perseu, he saw him cozying up to a female owl. “You sneaky bird,” he snorted. “Although, I have to give you the credit of even being able to get a lady!” Perseus ruffled him indignantly and smacked him in the face with his feathers. “Ow, okay stop it, that hurts!” Derek took out his parcel and started tying it to Perseus. ”Okay, now, go send this parcel to dad-“ And that’s when it hit him.
His dad was gone.
He’d never see him again.
Nor send him any parcels.
His dad was gone.
Forever.
I Miss You…

xx 𝕷Avery knew grief. It was like a friend to her now. Ever since her grandfather had died, it felt like she had been drowning. Struggling to make it to the surface. Her strength had ebbed away for a while.
It was when she returned to school and was surrounded by friends that cared for her and listened to her that things changed. She still grieved her grandfather deeply and felt the ache of his loss, but it hurt less. Especially after talking to Professor Quintero. He had shown A very true kindness in her darkest moment. For that she was eternally grateful to him.
Avery did not know the reason she chose to go to the Owlery. Maybe it was because of her cousin. She dearly missed him as of late. With him being in America to attend school at Ilvermony while she was across the world attending Hogwarts, it got tough. Her cousin was more like a brother to her than anyone else. And losing him for a school year was harder than ever now that the two were reunited.
Upon entering the Owlery, Avery was hit with the familiar scent of bird droppings and, of course, owls. It was suffocating at first, but Avery knew that in only a matter of minutes her nose would grow accustomed to the smell and things would not be so bad. She could only hope that would happen sooner or later.
To the lioness' surprise, she was not alone this time. There was another boy she recognized as one of her fellow lion third years. She vaguely recalled moderating a dueling match for him and another girl when they were younger, but she was not for sure on that. The lioness had moderated many more duels since then to the point that they jumbled together.
Avery paid him little mind at first. Whatever he was about to send was his own business and Avery did not want to intrude. Everyone deserved their space. Especially when sending personal letters.
She chose her own owl to send a letter to. A large what she believed to be Great Horned Owl, but then again she could have been completely wrong. She was never that good at identifying owl breeds. Slipping the letter onto the string and tying it tightly, Avery sent the owl off and with a rush of feathers and wind, the bird was gone. Flying high into the slowly darkening sky.
She turned in that moment to see the boy again. Something was wrong. Avery could not place her finger on what, but she could tell just by how he stood. That was when she decided privacy was out the window. She had to make sure he was alright.
"Hey, are you okay?" Avery questioned as she took a step closer.xx
