Time: July 3rd, Morning
@Cricket Mercury

It was a crisp, summer morning. Altair had exited her tent that morning to take a breath of fresh air. Many students were still sleeping, after their hard work yesterday setting up their tents. She looked around, the once empty grass field was now filled with tents of all shapes and colors. Someone can easily get lost in here. she thought. She decided to go for a stroll, walking around the encampment listening to the chirps of birds and the snores of the many students still asleep. It was a peaceful time to be awake and she found an empty spot and sat down. She brushed her fingers over the dew covered grass and sighed. The BBQ planned for the day had not yet started.
Altair looked up and saw the sun had moved quite a bit. She got up, and looked around. Where in the world is my tent? Although she was sure she had memorized the pattern and position of her tent, she just realized that here, many tents looked very similar to her's and she hadn't thought to keep track of where she was walking. Darn, what do I do now? Looking around, Altair spotted a tent that she was almost sure was her's. Walking over, she was about the lift up the tent flap when a girl stumbled out. And she wasn't one of her tent mates. "Oh, um, sorry. I thought that this was my tent--" explained Altair, hoping the girl wouldn't think she was trying to intrude.

It was a bright, sunny day when Cricket woke up. She hopped off her bunk and made her way to where she kept her trunk with all her clothes neatly piled, one on top of the other. She didn't want to have the same incident she had when she was younger, so she put on a thin, purple, long sleeve shirt with black cargo shorts. She slipped on some white hightops and plopped on a white baseball cap.

She made her way out of the room she was staying in and realized her tent-mates were no where to be found in the wide luxury of their tent. She checked the time and saw that she had slept in late. Panicking, she wondered why her tent-mates haven't woken her up. Although she knew that she wasn't doing any mandatory activities until later that afternoon, she was still a bit shaken on how her friends didn't bother to alert her that they were leaving. Not even a note, she thought.

Cricket wasn't very hungry that morning so she decided not to eat. She was well protected, so she decided to go out and take a relaxing stroll through the nature. As she made her way over to the entrance flap of the tent, she tripped on a stray book and stumbled out the entrance. She fell face first and as she was struggling to get up, she saw a pair of shoes that didn't belong to her tent-mates. Cricket finally got to her feet and dusted herself off. A girl with deep blue eyes and long raven hair was in front of her.

"Oh, um, sorry. I thought that this was my tent-" Said the girl. Cricket thought she has seen her before but she wasn't sure. Cricket stood frozen for a second, not knowing what to do or say. She remembered her breathing techniques her best friend, Henry, had taught her. If you ever feel stuck or nervous, just pretend you're alone and breathe in and out, she remembered his words. She did as he said and felt much better. "That's alright," Cricket said in a reassuring voice. "My name is Cricket and I'm a Gryffindor. Have I seen you around before?" She nervously said as she messed with her hair.

Altair noticed the girl take a few deep breaths. "That's alright," said the girl in a reassuring voice. "My name is Cricket and I'm a Gryffindor. Have I seen you around before?"
"Umm, no, I don't think so." said Altair, thinking back. She wasn't a very social person, so she didn't really notice others around her or interact with anyone that much. "I'm Altair and I'm in Hufflepuff." she said, showing Cricket her yellow socks and shirt. It was quite hard talking to other people but this girl seemed nice. Altair wondered if she should keep searching for her tent. No, I should stay here and talk with her. I could use some more interaction with other people. I do read too much books.
"So, um," Altair scratched her head, thinking of something to do, "Want to walk around with me?" she decided finding her tent was not of importance currently, and the BBQ still wouldn't start in some time. There was plenty time for her to do other things. She didn't want to exhaust her book supply before events have even started. She thought about her tent-- which was nice, and warm, and cosy, and-- stop! You read too much books! Why don't you do something else for once. "There's a nice clearing nearby. It's nice and quiet and no one really goes there." She wondered if Cricket would take her up on her offer.

The girl had a slightly nervous expression planted across her face. Cricket knew exactly how she felt but knew it would be better not to show it. "Umm, no, I don't think so." claimed the girl. Cricket was about to ask her what her name was, when she took the words out of her mouth. "I'm Altair and I'm in Hufflepuff." said the girl as she showed Cricket her yellow, high-knee socks and bright yellow shirt. It seemed like Altair was still trying to find her tent. Cricket was going to suggest that she could help her find her way back to it. After all, the tents look quite similar to each other.

"So, um...want to walk around with me?" If there was a word to describe Cricket's face at the moment, it would flattered. The only person that has asked her to hang out before was her best friend. Wow, I think Altair and I would be good friends! I'd like to get to know her, Cricket thought as Altair scratched her head for a moment. "There's a nice clearing nearby. It's nice and quiet and no one really goes there." Cricket took a look at the sky, more specifically the sun, then down at her clothes. Her skin was protected quite well so she decided to take Altair up on the offer.

"Yes! I mean- sure! I need to start making new friends anyways. I can't just stay inside and make music all day!" Okay Crick, not too bad. You came off pretty subtle, that's good, right?

"Yes! I mean- sure! I need to start making new friends anyways. I can't just stay inside and make music all day!" said the girl. Phew. Good thing she accepted. I don't know what I'll say if she didn't. And it seems she is looking for new friends too. It was a really good decision to go for a walk this morning. "I could say the same except for me it's that I read books too much." smiled Altair, she could feel the strong sun on her back and breathed a sigh of relief that she had applied sunscreen. "Come on, follow me." When they arrived at the clearing Altair laid on the grass and looked up at the sky. Hawks circled overhead and the clouds sped through the sky. The sun was getting quite hot so she took off her scarf and laid it beside her. That was one thing she didn't like about summer. It got too hot and sweaty. She waited for Cricket to settle down too before starting the conversation. She didn't want to seem too rushed. "So, um, ya know, I like music too." Great, start the conversation off nice and slow. "I play the piano. At home we have a medium sized one. I like to play the more classical pieces like the waltzes and sonatinas." She turned her head to face Cricket, "So do you play and instrument? What kinds of music do you like?"

"I could say the same except for me it's that I read books too much." Cricket giggled at the girl's remark. Maybe she had found a friend who's introverted just like her. "Come on, follow me." Cricket didn't know how it felt to Altair, but the Gryffindor felt like it had been ages just to reach the clearing. Maybe it was just the sun making her a bit distorted but Cricket would've much preferred to use Floo powder. Although the walk was long and lengthy, it was worth the while. There were a few large oak trees for shade but you could see the large light blue sky decorated with fluffy white clouds and circling hawks.

The sun was shown vividly and Altair had taken her scarf off. Cricket settled down and picked a nice, shady spot before rolling up her sleeves and resting her head on her arm. The two girls were lying in silence until the friendly badger broke the quiet. "So, um, ya know, I like music too." Cricket turned her head to meet Altair's. "I play the piano. At home we have a medium sized one. I like to play the more classical pieces like the waltzes and sonatinas." Cricket couldn't help but smile a bit. She was glad she found someone who likes music. "So do you play and instrument? What kinds of music do you like?"

"That's really cool how you play piano. Its such a nice instrument, and yes I do play, actually. I play the ukulele, the electric guitar, the drums, and I sing. I've written a few songs before but I've never sang them in front of an audience." Cricket tapped her chin to think well on the next question. "I listen to a lot of rock and indie, but more rock such as Nirvana, Green Day, and The Beatles. But I also really like an artist named Cavetown."

Altair watched Cricket tap her chin, probably thinking about the next question, "I listen to a lot of rock and indie, but more rock such as Nirvana, Green Day, and The Beatles. But I also really like an artist named Cavetown." said Cricket.
Altair grinned, they were both into music! That was something good to talk about. She couldn't believe that Cricket could not only play one instrument-- she could play three. Altair herself struggled with learning just piano. "Wow that is a lot of instruments." she said. Altair hadn't heard of Nirvana, Green Day, or Cavetown before. She wasn't all too familiar with rock music in general, but she loved The Beatles. "Really? The Beatles? They are one of my favorite bands! One of my favorite songs they wrote is probably Yesterday." She replayed what Cricket said in her head, "I bet the songs you wrote are pretty good." Altair wasn't going to ask Cricket to sing any of them for her. That would be too intrusive and pressuring. If Cricket had never sung any of the songs to an audience before why would she sing it to her? It was better not to ask, plus they were having a nice conversation and Altair didn't want to break it up. She was pretty exhausted on the topic of music, and decided to steer the conversation into more familiar waters. "What's your favorite book? I think mine would probably be... I don't know there are too many to choose from. But Where the Red Fern Grows is really good. It made me cry."

"Wow that is a lot of instruments," said Altair. The young lion smiled and nodded. Although it may seem like a lot, it wasn't enough for Cricket. She’s always wanted to learn to play piano and bass guitar. Maybe I could talk to Altair on how she learned to play piano?"Really? The Beatles? They are one of my favorite bands! One of my favorite songs they wrote is probably Yesterday. I bet the songs you wrote are pretty good." Cricket's smile grew larger at the sound of that. She liked how she now knew someone who liked The Beatles as much as her, and who compliments her songs without even hearing them. Cricket was thinking that she could invite Altair to her tent and play her a few of her songs. Maybe we could form a band?

"What's your favorite book? I think mine would probably be... I don't know there are too many to choose from. But Where the Red Fern Grows is really good. It made me cry." The Gryffindor has never heard of the book which was the badger's favourite. She’s had to take a while remembering which book she preferred, but as soon as she remembered, she knew the book like the back of her own hand. "I love 'Yesterday!' But my most preferred would have to be 'Blackbird.' My favorite book would is 'The Honest Truth' by Dan Gemeinhart, I read it all the time. It also maybe me cry. I've never heard of 'Where the Red Fern Grows.' You'll definitely have to lend it to me, someday!" Cricket had said, adding a little chuckle at the end, whilst smiling grandly.

"So..." She continued, "Do you have any siblings? What's your family like?"

"I'm sure I've heard of 'The Honest Truth' before. I should really give it a try. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. smiled Altair, "And if you ever want to try 'Where the Red Fern Grows', just drop by my tent! It's in my stash of favorite books that I bring everywhere with me."
"So... Do you have any siblings? What's your family like?" asked Cricket.
Altair rubbed her chin, "I have a younger brother, turning ten soon. He hasn't shown any signs of magic yet though, I wish he would turn out to be a wizard so he can attend Hogwarts." she continued, "My parents are both veterinarians and work at home to take care of animals. They take care of the wild ones too, as we live near the woods. My brother and I play in the woods too, that's how I--" Altair stopped, she wasn't going to tell Cricket that she was a werewolf was she? Then Cricket wouldn't like her anymore. She quickly changed the topic, Then there is my aunt, she is a witch, actually. She works in the Department of Regulation of Magical Creatures, Beast division. Loving animals runs through my family I guess. We have a dog too." Altair finished, "How about you? What's your family like?"
