She told herself she was just gonna stop by for a little while. Watch the opening, say hi to a few people she recognized, have a cold drink or two before she starts to sizzle in this weather. Somehow she'd made her way to the stands, a half-empty drink in one hand, melting popsicle in the other.
The atmosphere was difficult to resist.
It wasn't often that Hogwarts grounds felt this alive with adults who weren't professors. Former students wandered about freely, laughing over old stories and introducing friends from different schools. For once, it felt less like a school and more like a community.
Denisse rested against the side of the bench and looked over at the gathering. The picnic was adorable, even if she didn't think all this effort would keep the summer heat at bay forever. Blankets and cushions littered the stands and drinks seemed to be showing up almost faster than they could be enjoyed.
The persons who had arranged it were obviously professionals.
Cheers suddenly erupted, and she followed the sound back to the pitch.
The game was already underway, players swooping through the air in streaks of color. Denisse squinted against the sun, trying to follow the pass as it drifted between chasers. Quidditch had always been much clearer when she was flying in the air and trying to keep up with it rather than from the ground.
Still, the energy was infectious.
She sat in the stands applauding wildly after an especially great pass, even though she didn't have any strong allegiance to either of the teams. Some of the other spectators were much more into it. Some were yelling tips at the players, who certainly couldn't hear them. Others were debating the plays with each other.
It made her laugh.
Professor Weems then flew above the stands with a great sweeping flap, prompting a fresh laugh from the crowd.
"Sure," Denisse said softly, shaking her head with a smile. "Only he could make himself part of the entertainment."
Not that she minded.
She scanned the field and saw a familiar face weaving through the seats handing out beverages. It was Professor Kitty, apparently a natural, as she was hopping between groups of cheering spectators, ensuring they were all well fed and watered, and everyone seemed to be having a good time.
Denisse raised her glass in silent toast.
The heat was a little oppressive, and the sun downright cruel, but days like this just might be the reason she enjoyed coming back.
Not for the game itself.
Not even for the competition.
This is what she had in mind: laughters echoing from stands, old friends getting reacquainted, strangers who turned into acquaintances, and dozens of lives connecting under the vast, beautiful summer sky for a fleeting moment.
Another roar of the crowd burst after a close call at the hoops, and Denisse felt her face breaking into a smile and she joined the applause.
Perhaps she'd even linger⦠for a little while.

Satisfied with the seat he'd managed to find in the stands, Buckley relaxed his posture, letting his arms fall by his sides instead of keeping them crossed over his chest. However, despite being more comfortable after working up a sweat climbing the steps, the boy didn't fully relax, never taking his eyes off the game. Focused on following the movements and plays unfolding between the teams, it took him a few seconds to realise that the girl beside him had asked him a question.
Frederick turned to look at Angel, his eyes meeting hers. With his naturally serious expression, the boy's features softened as he introduced himself, revealing a friendly smile. βI'm Frederick Buckley. Nice to meet you, Angel.β He kept smiling, now with a smaller, closed-mouth grin tugging at the corner of his lips. βAh, don't worry, I'm the one who should apologise. Did you ask if I play Quidditch?" He threw the question back at Dayes, though it was more rhetorical than anything. βI'm on the Gryffindor team.β He glanced briefly towards the pitch, unwilling to miss any detail of the match, before looking back at the girl. βYou should come watch us play sometime.β He wasn't about to miss the opportunity to invite a girl who seemed nice enough to come watch the team's matches that season.
With his attention divided between Dayes and the Quidditch match, Buckley took a moment to process everything she'd said, answering her questions out of order but with his usual spontaneity. βDuelling, huh? I bet the rules are different.β He let out a short laugh through his nose. βI can explain the rules and the strategies behind each pla-β Frederick looked back towards the players and raised both hands to his head, suddenly concerned as he reacted to the scramble over the Quaffle, cutting himself off mid-sentence. βThis is madness! The Keeper left the hoops to go after the Quaffle and... GOAL!β He punched the air in celebration. βRiddle scored! Lucky only one of the opposing team's Chasers tried to score on the unguarded hoops.β He turned to Angel to share the comment. Since he was in an environment where he felt comfortable, Frederick easily slipped into conversation with his new acquaintance.
βAnd well, continuing...β He chuckled, the laugh serving as an apology for interrupting his own explanation to comment on the match. βMaybe it's easier if you just ask me questions whenever you're unsure about something, and I'll try to answer as best I can.β Fred finished, looking at Angel with a friendly, welcoming expression.

"Of course they survived."
Alfie was so relieved to know that he hadnβt just witness a multiple homicide that he didnβt consider the conversation from Joβs point of view. He was still straining to see what had happened to the fallen players and planning to ask Jo how she knew they were alright when she interrupted his thoughts.
"Why didn't you just say you were muggleborn? I can't believe you just kept going on about the Harpies."
Pigβs poo.
"Now, what it is, isββ
Alfie didnβt know what the end of that sentence would be, but felt certain heβd come up with something.
"Or, well, something like that, because I don't think muggles can be metamorphmagi. Can they?
Alfie's hands immediately went to his face, feeling it frantically, half expecting to find an abnormally long nose. When he didnβt, he was even more relieved than heβd been about the quidditch fatalities.
βThey canβt, no,β he answered. He was still a bit shook, but recovering quickly. βFor what itβs worth, I didnβt lie before. I really am from Holyhead, born and bred. So, of course, the Harpies would be my team. Thatβs true regardless of how many times I might have seen them play.β
He glanced up at her expression, gauging whether this was working, and deciding that he needed to crank it up a notch.
βEven if that number was none,β he concluded. There was no point denying it.
βYou see, what it is, is my family doesnβt approve of quidditch,β he lied. βSo, Iβve never actuallyββ He shrugged. She knew this part already.
βWell, you can imagine what thatβs like, knowing, but not being allowed to participate. And then to finally meet other people my age, and to hear them go on about itβ Well, I guess I just got carried away.β
He peeked at her expression again. Still more, he decided. A full mea culpa was in order.
βI felt awful, as soon as Iβd said anything, of course,β he went on. βI didnβt mean to steal your thunder on the trivia thing, either. I just got so excited when I heard you say Holyhead, and then, once Iβd interrupted, well, I wasnβt sure how to go on without losing face.β All true. So far as it went.
βClearly, I donβt know anything when it comes to quidditch,β he said, with what he hoped sounded like real humility. He was feeling more confident that admitting his error (without being too specific or comprehensive) was the way to go. βI was just hoping I could manage to catch up on what I didnβt know, before I managed to embarrass myself,β he finished, giving her a sheepish (and hopefully charming) smile.
For the record, Alfie was no longer embarrassed.

The Ravenclaw was a duelling captain for a reason. It was cause her preferred sport was duelling. Quidditch seemed rather daunting for her to do. Being that high on a broom? With the chance to get hit by bludgers? Truly a terrifying experience. But that didn't mean she didn't enjoy watching said matches.
Which is why she was here now. The alumni quidditch match. Fawkes had by this point only seen the students play so she really wanted to see what it was like watching a bunch of adults play instead. Would it be more chaotic than other matches? Or perhaps faster since they had more experience? She couldn't wait to find out. She moved into the stands alongside her cousin whom she had dragged along with her. The poor boy was being dragged around a lot off late. But it was his fault for letting her to do so honestly! Nothing was stopping him from just saying, or rather signing, no. So Fawkes thought he was fine being dragged around so much.
As the two of them entered the stands, Fawkes dragged Raphael to what she considered one of the best spots to view the field. Even with glasses, she had a hard time viewing the match itself so she ensured that the seats they had taken had a clear view of the players. It wasn't long after they had sat that the match had started. Fawkes watched the players kick off the ground and the game began. It's then she realised that her dear cousin wouldn't know what the commentary was since he couldn't hear. So she began to sign the commentary for him, making sure that he knew who exactly was who so that he could follow what was being said.
The game progressed rather fast, just as she had expected. There were fewer players than a normal game as well so it made sense. Fawkes winced as she saw the bludgers knock out players in the very first round. They were definitely a force to be reckoned with. She hoped the players were alright after being hit. The snitch had also been spotted as well. Truly it was going to be a short match at this rate which truth be told Fawkes was sad about. She was hoping there would be more action or that they would be able to see more of the players however maybe it was also a blessing since that meant they could also leave faster...

She didn't know adults could participate in summer camp activities, and she didn't expect to be watching a Quidditch match between them. Ophelia had participated in unofficial Quidditch matches before; one of them had been quite... interesting, with a beater from the opposing team knocking the second beater from her team out in the very first round. She remembered being scared and surprised at that, because it could've been her that time, or she could've been the next one out. Either way, that Ravenclaw, @Ebony Vetra, made her feel intimidated at first, then Ophelia started to like her and want to be as good as her in the sport. During her first year at Hogwarts, before all those unofficial matches, she'd been quite scared of flying. Ironic how she couldn't balance herself on the broom and had fallen multiple times before, and now was mostly aiming at other players to hit with a bludger when flying. Her flying improved thanks to @Zephyr Deakin, who'd helped her with the wobbly imbalance, something Lia was very grateful for. If it weren't for him, she'd never have the courage to even try Quidditch, the wizarding sport she now loved very much for reasons she couldn't explain.
Ophelia was sitting in the middle rows and watching the long-graduated adults play against each other. Already three people were knocked out. Not being completely used to seeing that happen, Ophelia'd winced every time. She knew it must've hurt a lot; she couldn't say she had experience in getting knocked out during a game of Quidditch, because, to be honest, it had only happened to her once during an unofficial match that @Dido Bleaklane had moderated. It was an... interesting yet terrifying experience for the eleven-year-old, yet she'd found herself more scared when she was hit, while passing out, than when she woke up and realized what had happened. She'd heard that the game had stopped because of that, which kind of disappointed her, but she didn't blame anyone for it. It must've been a scary experience for Dido, as well; although Ophelia didn't know how many times the Slytherin had moderated or had seen such thing happen.
The current score was 10 to 20, which surprised Lia. She was used to teams scoring in each round one after another that she'd underestimated how much better adults were than students. Of course, the keepers would be much better and faster at blocking the Quaffle. And of course, the beaters would be much stronger. Ophelia didn't seem to find a team to support, she was just mesmerized by the game, and that was the only thing she cared about there... and that nobody died.

Ginyami was, for once, actually able to be himself as he attended the alumni game with Sara. Since he had decided to start from the bottom and work his way up as an employee for his family business - a business he owned - he had had to disguise himself in order to avoid being identified as the business owner for the chain of shops. He wanted to know his family trade inside and out; he wanted to be able to earn his position as the business owner and be able to prove to everyone who worked under him that he was fully capable of handling the job - not just because he was the only heir, but because he deserved it. That was why he had decided to start as a lowly shop clerk and secretly work his way up the ranks of his own business.
He hadn't realized how challenging it would be to try to work as the meek and shy female-presenting Midori Hikari, however. As Midori, he had had trouble getting through to people or even getting them to lend him an ear at all when he couldn't behave like his usual, confident, assertive self. He wasn't sure if it was because of his personality or his presenting as female or a combination of things, but it had started to become increasingly frustrating to him. He resolved to try to study Sara more to figure out how he got people to listen to him, but there were three problems with that.
The first was that Sara was far larger and more intimidating physically than Midori and Ginyami were. Even if his personality was just as timid and submissive as Midori's if not even more, his good-looking and mildly terrifying appearance to most tended to grant him a great deal or attention. The second problem was that Sara didn't usually try or have reason to try to get people to pay attention to him. In fact, he seemed to be much more comfortable blending into a crowd or seeming to be invisible than standing out, even if he wasn't very good at doing either and ended up standing out by default.
The third problem was, by far, the worst, though; at least in Ginyami's opinion. With Sara busy being as Quidditch player in Japan and Ginyami commuting so often to the Hogsmeade branch in Scotland of Mahou no Midorimori (or Magic of the Green Forest as his shop chain was called in English), it seemed like Ginyami barely got to see Sara those days, especially since they were so often in different countries. Sure, they might have lived together because Ginyami was able to use a portkey to get back to Japan at the end of the day, but their schedules still rarely matched up even when they had time to rest from their exhausting jobs.
The chance to watch the Hogwarts Alumni Quidditch Game, however, was one of those rare opportunities for them to be able to spend some quality time together, so Ginyami jumped on it. It was especially nice since the game took place at Hogwarts' quidditch stadium which was so close to where Ginyami worked in Hogsmeade. And since Ginyami and Sara both had played quidditch during their time in Mahoutokoro, they were both familiar with and had an interest in the game. It was just nice being in the audience together for once instead of out on the pitch on their brooms.
As soon as they arrived through the portkey, Sara tumbled forward and fell onto his hands and knees in the grass they landed on. Sara was much less used to that method of travel than Ginyami was and Ginyami knew how frightening new things could be (like that loud, smelly muggle vehicle called a motorcycle that Sara had explained to him), so he was grateful for Sara trying it out and accompanying him anyway.
"You're sure you're okay?" he asked his boyfriend, kneeling beside him to check on him before offering him a hand up. "You don't feel nauseous or anything like that? It's very common with portkey users, especially when they're not used to using them."

Even if it was something like a trade school, going back to school in general wasn't easy; especially when he had gone without having to do assignments or homework for so long. The assignments were more fun this time around than they had been in muggle school and even Ilvermorny for the most part, but having to do homework outside of class time still meant it cut into free time which was especially obnoxious for a full grown adult. They had little enough free time as it was. However, with the chance to house his friend Jack while Jack visited from Wales and the opportunity for both of them to visit Hogwarts again through the attending of the Alumni Quidditch game being held there, Kit wasn't about to pass that up.
He made the time to spend attending the game with Jack as a spectator, even if neither of them really were going for the game itself. Jack didn't like quidditch, but was going in order to write something for his job as a News Aide. Kit, on the other hand, was attending more for the company of the people and the nostalgia of the place. It was a shame Jack had requested that Kit sit away from him because he wanted to avoid getting distracted by his friend while he was trying to work, but it couldn't be helped. Besides, it wasn't as if Kit minded sitting with and observing and learning about strangers. On the contrary, he actually found it really fascinating to be surrounded by people he didn't know.
Just as he was wandering through the stands looking for an empty place to sit, someone shorter than him - presumably a Hogwarts student and perhaps even a first year - bumped into him head-first. Kit looked down, instinctively putting out his arms to steady the person who had walked into him and keep them from falling over. However, luckily, the kid didn't seem in any danger of falling over. The kid looked up at him and stared at him blankly, but before Kit could even apologize for being in the way or ask if he was alright, said kid blurted out, "BLUE" and raised his arms to point at the artist's face. "You're so friggin' blue!"
It was then Kit's turn to stare and blink cluelessly for a moment before he begun to laugh. The child looked especially funny with his jacket tied around his head - presumably to shield him from the hot summer sun's rays - but he didn't seem harmed, at least. "I guess that means you're okay, then," he noted with amusement. "'Blue'? You mean my tattoos? Or my eye?"" he asked with a grin, knowing his right eye was the same blue as the swirl tattoos he had on the crest of each of his cheekbones right under each eye. "Um...actually, how about we get out of the way of people and find somewhere to sit before we start chatting about this?"

Strike could hardly contain his excitement. He was attending his first quidditch game at Hogwarts! He wasn't even attending the school yet and he was getting the chance to watch a quidditch game there! It didn't even cost anything!
As a pureblood child who hadn't been allowed to do much for fun growing up with his parents, events like this were exceedingly rare. He wondered if they would become more common once he actually started attending Hogwarts since he wouldn't have his parents to dictate his every hour of every day any longer. He still intended to keep up with his daily training regimen and make them as proud as he could, of course, but he imagined he would have a lot more choices to make on his own once school started and he still wasn't entirely sure how he felt about that. Well, he would probably be able to guess what his parents would want him to do regardless of the situation, so he told himself he'd be fine.
Flying had been one of the pastimes that Strike's parents had made him practice but which he also especially loved to do just like running. As someone who had started learning how to fly before he had even properly finished mastering how to walk, he was confident in his flying skills. So when he learned there was an entire sport played on flying brooms, Strike was ecstatic. He was determined to get a chance to play quidditch at Hogwarts regardless of how long he had to wait. He knew it would probably be a long time considering how popular the sport was, but he didn't mind being patient. He knew that when he finally got his chance, he would make certain they wouldn't regret giving him the opportunity to play for whatever team he ended up being on.
As things were just then, however, all he could do was sit and watch. Which was fine with him because at least that way he could see how other players played the sport before he attempted to try doing it himself. He would have to be sure to make mental notes as he observed them so he could perform those techniques later - just like he had observed his parents in order to pick up their techniques when they worked. Piece of cake!
Just as he was looking for a place to sit, however, scooting along the rows while trying to determine where the best vantage point of the pitch would be, he noticed a pretty, dark-haired lady lose her baseball cap when the wind blew it off her head. Automatically, Strike jumped to catch it, almost toppling over the stands, but managing to keep his balance before slowly and carefully bringing the cap back to its owner.
"Um, excuse me, miss," he said, holding out the hat. "Is this hat yours? I noticed the wind blow it and tried to catch it for you."

Exhilarating.
That was what the match was becoming. People were finally scoring with 20-10 from a 0-0. 2 people were knocked out, 1 person was knocked off their broom. Then another person was knocked out, people were sharing brooms. So much was going on so fast and Aaron was barely able to focus on their conversation.
While they were all different people, they had their own similarities.
None of them have ever played quidditch, but do want to try it. Barring Penelope, who had seen an International Match, this was their first quidditch match. All of them wanted to try all of the sports, which are quidditch, broom racing and duelling, though none knew which was the better one, or ever experienced it much either.
Diana then started explaining a bit about Hogwarts and how it is a place where they would be learning a lot of stuff. She touched over the huge castle and how easy it is to get lost. "Not if you have a Marauder's Map." Aaron thought.
It was at that time some exciting changes happened on the pitch. A Chaser was knocked off their broom, another hit by the Quaffle, and a Seeker taken out by a Bludger. This was followed by a comment on the score.
Aaron commented."It is indeed surprising that they are taking so long to score. But doesn't that mean they are equally teamed? Neither team is scoring, so either their Chasers aren't good enough, or both Keepers are quite nice. Hopefully it is the former."
Diana then said she'd like to continue as Seeker, which prompted Aaron to think which position he wanted. He wasn't very strong for a beater, and he wasn't much sure about the other positions. He decided to think about that when sign ups open up.
He then looked at the match progressing, while enjoying his coke. If Quidditch looked unsafe while sitting at the stands, what would be the situation when he would be like one of them, flying at high speeds up in the air, dodging bludgers, other players, ensuring his team scores, while the other doesn't."I'm not sure what to choose. Maybe whatever is available at the time I guess."
the young boy asked curiously."What do you think happens to those who are knocked off? Do people die when playing the game?"
In a while, he saw the Nebulas score 2 goals while the Abraxans were only able to score 1. A couple of people were again knocked off their brooms, but one was thankfully saved by their teammate who they were now sharing their broom with.
Aaron said."This match keeps on getting interesting."

The bright midday sun reciprocated the Japanese duelistβs dark-eyed glare. It was fortunate she was donning an outfit fitting for the weather, else the dayβs events would be utterly unbearable.
Camp was ridden with youngsters left and right. Akane had only encountered two people of similar age to her, and she briefly wondered if she was a lazy bum for gallivanting off to this foreign school instead of focusing on her studies back at home. Surely everybody else was simply too studious and dedicated to engage in such frivolous outings. And so it was a welcome change when Akane caught wind of the alumni Quidditch match, for finally there would be some hope of a good game to watch. Despite knowing close to nothing about broom sports, especially Quidditch, she truly could not think of anything better to do, and it was always good to learn new things.
En route to the venue, Akane out of habit stuck her wand into a pocket by her side, and rolled up her sleeves as if preparing to take a duel. Of course on this day there would not be any threat of a spar commencing, but still the fabric sat firmly wedged at Akaneβs elbows. Up in the stands overlooking the pitch, a breeze was picking up, making her promptly unfold them back down.
One thing about watching the sport before her was that truly anything could happen. Back in the day, she herself was rather exceptional at maneuvering a flying carpet, especially when faced with the threat of losing to Nakan-chan and Koi-san1. No matter how confident she was in twisting and turning in the air, somehow she would find there would always be a childβs firm hold on her shirttail, dragging her down with a delighted shriek. She could only imagine how such a scenario might turn out when brooms and other sentient flying objects were combined to the equation. There were a couple of times where even the spectators were not safe from a stray Bludger.
The game unfolded before her, quite hard to follow with only two eyes. The players sped by, getting smaller and bigger proportional to their distances from Akaneβs vantage point. When a player fell from their place in the sky, she imagined what that could feel like; was it like blacking out in a duel, where one feels their bodyβs dull thump on the piste as if viewing from outside? There would be no shortage of broken bones, that was for sure. Maybe they would have time to look up at the sun and shield their eyes before hitting the ground.
The longer she watched, the more the boredom started to settle in, first in her feet, then her eyes. Deciding to return to diligently practicing duel strategies, she climbed down from the stands.
