The Plan Before the Party

I can't stop myself from staring at the enormous paper aeroplane. It's somehow even more ridiculous up close.
From a distance, it had looked impressive enough, but standing right beside it makes me realise just how enormous it actually is. One wing is slightly crumpled, and the whole thing looks like it has survived a battle rather than a flight across a courtyard. A few creases run along the body that definitely weren't there when it was first folded, and one of the corners is slightly out of shape.
Despite all that, I can't help but smile as I look at the aircraft's owner, Xio, and shake my head in disbelief.
“That is massive.”
I take a little step closer, tilting my head as I inspect the enormous plane from another angle. For a moment, I consider reaching out to straighten one of the bent wings, but I stop myself before my fingers get anywhere near it. After everything it had just been through, I figure it's probably best not to touch the precious aeroplane without permission.
“I still can't believe you made that yourself,” I say, glancing between Xio and the plane. “And you only learned how to make them last week?”
I stare at the aeroplane for another second before looking back at Xio. Then laugh and shake my head in amazement. “I've been folding paper for years, and somehow I've never managed anything that impressive.”
I glance towards the direction the aeroplane had flown, remembering its rather dramatic journey across the courtyard. “I'm not quite sure that flight counts as successful,” I add, trying not to laugh. “But I definitely wouldn't say no to a party.”
I glance around at the others before looking back at Xio.
“Just something small,” I say. “Nothing too complicated. We'd better get to it straight away, though.”
I start counting off ideas on my fingers. “We need a time and date, a venue, a guest list, decorations…” I pause dramatically. “And TONS of snacks.”
I nod firmly, as though that last part is by far the most important item on the list. I look down at my fingers, mentally running through everything again.
“Okay, I'm planning too much," I say, giving a sheepish grin and shrugging. “I do that. But seriously, if we're actually doing this, we might as well make it fun.”
I look around at everyone, waiting to see who else seems interested. The thought of actually organising a party suddenly seems much more exciting now that it might actually happen.
“So,” I say, looking back at the group, “who's in?”

Laura listened to what all the others were saying. They were talking about a party. " I am definitely in guys what if Xio makes her crazy potions and we can bring Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans and chocolate frogs and so much more. Maybe we could do the party in 2 days on a Saturday. Well we do not really exactly need a guest list you know it is only us maybe someone else can join. A venue about that maybe in the room of requirements that way we can party till after curfew and no one will notice. And for the deco we can make like garlands and blow up balloons or we could use magic that would be easier. And we can have muffins pizza scones donuts turkey no just kidding maybe some vegetables. You know we need a bit of healthy snacks. And drinks we obviously need a lot of different drinks like pumpkin juice Tea water hot Coco and maybe even coffee you know to stay hydrated. Anyone else have any ideas or plans. And please we need all help here guys. And we could hang up some like banners of our houses cause we're all from different houses.

Jessica paid close attention to all the different ideas and smiled as the party plans gradually took shape. The more people spoke, the more excited she got.

Certainly! I'm in, I say as I look over the group. The Room of Requirement would be just the place for the party, since we could ask it to make a large room with some comfortable chairs, tables and plenty of space for all of us.

I think about the decorations for a moment.

For the decorations we might use floating candles, coloured balloons, and banners showing all our houses; we could perhaps also use some simple charms so that the decorations move about.

I laugh whenever all of them begin talking about food.

We definitely ought to have chocolate frogs and Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans, and we might as well get cupcakes, cookies, muffins, sandwiches, and a lot of pumpkin juice as well. People should all bring something so that we can share the work.

I glance around thoughtfully.

For fun we might play Exploding Snap, or Wizard’s Chess, or put on a small quiz about Hogwarts; we could also have some music playing in the background.

I smile excitedly.

If we're doing it on Saturday, I'll look after the decorations and the food before everybody arrives; it's going to be lots of fun!

Atlas liked to mind his business. Therefore, he had absolutely no reason to head into the courtyard. Absolutely none. Here, he'll even spell it out for you—N, O, N, E. None. None until someone sprinted in and decided now was the perfect time to cause quite the scene. Oh great, what is she doing here?

Even worse, she'd spotted him, leaving him with no choice but to play the role of a concerned friend. He wasn't the only one either, for he found himself standing beside a somewhat familiar Slytherin girl.

All eyes were fixed on Xio as she successfully retrieved her paper airplane. Where she obtained one of that size, Atlas had no idea or intentions of finding out.

"As a celebration for its successful first flight, we should totally throw a party!" declared the typical, boisterous Xio. "Everyone who witnessed it should be invited!"

He'd roll his eyes if not for the group. Of course, Xio's party idea sparked a so-very-interesting discussion he was so-very-engaged in. What was he even doing here? He should leave. Though he had been standing close enough to the group to be a part of it, a considerable few strides remained between him and the nearest girl.

Since Xio was still intact, his job as a concerned friend was over. After pretending to see something in the corridors, he slipped away hopefully, unnoticed.
