Sorting Ceremony 2019-2020
Miranda stood in the line, trying to take in the entire hall at once, but there was just so much! She could see four tables, one for every house, but she spent most of the time watching the ceiling, which was a cloudy grey with bits of navy peeking through here and there. It was wonderful and impressive at the same time.
"Everest, Miranda."
She jumped slightly at the sound of her name being called, and all of the fear she had about the Sorting Ceremony came back to her twice as badly as before. Miranda had been trying to distract herself with the architecture, but that was all useless now.
Slowly stumbling forward, she sat down on the three-legged stool and closed her eyes as the large hat fell over her head.
Hello, young one, it whispered, as if it were speaking in her ear. You seem quite nervous. But also fascinated and curious. Hmm.
Miranda sat there, petrified, although not necessarily with fear. She was dying of curiosity, that was true. She'd always wanted to know what her house would be, officially.
A great knowledge, yes, and some bravery, too. You like to bend the rules...but not always. Interesting.
The hat continued to mumble to itself, musing over her qualities. It was fascinating to hear. Finally it seemed to come to a decision.
"Ravenclaw!" it shouted, and Miranda could hear the single word echoing around the hall as she took off the hat and headed to join her new house.

Sorting Ceremony 2019-2020
First September.
The day Opeila had wished for to come quicker and at the same time dreaded. She had been excited until she spent an hour on the train. The long ride had been exhausting. And like that wasn't enough, they then had to cross the lake on little boats. When Opeila first heard that they had to go to the boats, she really felt like someone was messing with her. Were they going to have to go through every transport vehicle there was? What was to come after the boats? Bus? Plane? Carriages? Nope, instead a truly huge staircase.
Only the moment they were told that they would be sorted into their houses brought back the excitement she had felt at the beginning of her journey. Very quickly pushed aside by the fascination she felt when she entered the great hall.
Magic was familiar to the little halfblood. She had seen it before, her grandmother used it all the time, despite Opeila's father's disapproval. It had always been him, who didn't want his daughter to go to Hogwarts. Luckily this was a decision that no one got to take away from her. And she didn't regret her choice.
Her eyes wandered over the bewitched ceiling, her mouth opened in amazement. This was supposed to be her home now? This absolutely... Magical place? Opeila smiled. Yes, she would like it here.
Opeila stopped in front of the teachers' table with the other first years and listened to what they were told. A hat would decide in which house they belonged. Curiously and a little terrified she watched the first person step forward and sit on the stool next to the teacher who put the hat on their hat. But what if there was someone here who had lice?
It was a while until her name got called. Well, of course it did, her name came rather late in the alphabet. "Seilun, Opeila!"
Nervously she pulled her hair out behind her ear. She felt the looks of... well, pretty much everyone on her, when she stepped forward and sat on the stool. She didn't look at anyone, instead she focused on the door.
The hat was to big for her head, it covered her eyebrows, but she didn't dare to push it up, even if it slid over her eyes. She winced, when the hat started to talk. "Oh what do we have here..." Could everyone hear it? No, she didn't hear what it said to the others, so why would they hear it now? "A little sarcast, aren't you? You use it to hold people distant. You are scared to make friends, while at the same time wishing for nothing more.
And then... Great ambition and a great desire to prove yourself..."
Opeila felt goosebumps on her arms and suddenly she just wanted to rip the hat off her head. This hat, this object, that just seemed to see right through her and read her like a book. It made her feel defenseless. She didn't want anyone to know her fears, her weaknesses.
"Yes, I know where to put you.
SLYTHERIN!"
Slytherin? Her heart dropped a little. Opeila thought of the posters her mother gave her to put on her walls. Her mother had never even considered that Opeila would be anything other than a Ravenclaw, like herself.
But then, Opeila had never been like her mother.
She felt the hat being taken off her head.
Quickly she walked over to her housetable and sat next to another newly sorted student.
A Slytherin.
