It hurt Eyre's heart that Tallis had been treated this way all of her life. She had done nothing wrong. She was one of the most caring, compassionate friends that he'd made at Hogwarts, and it upset him that other people weren't willing to give her an honest chance. When he told her that he was her first friend, he gave her a smile as she hugged him once, and then twice again, thanking him for being there for her.
He tightly hugged the girl, pulling away and then wiping away her tears with the end of his scarf. Tallis went into this thinking that it was going to ruin their friendship, but it did the exact opposite. It actually made their friendship stronger.
"Y'know, I didn't have a lot of friends growing up either. Friends that I felt cared about me as much as I cared about them.." He said with a chuckle, his eyes threatening to tear up again. He hadn't actually opened up about his family to her before, so he decided that it would be a good time to do so since she had revealed such a personal aspect of her life to him.
"My mum and dad... They kept me so lonely in our house. My sisters all hate me for being born, well, save for two of them. But even they never had time for me. Ever, when I was growing up." He started, letting out a painful sigh. Oh gosh. Here came the water works again. "I know we've just met really, but you're like family to me, Tallis. More family than my own family has been. Y'know that, right?" A few tears came out of his eyes, and he laughed them away. It was true.
one morning this sadness will fossilize and i will forget how to cry. ☆

Tallis listened to Eyre as he talked about his family and watched as tears came down his cheeks again as he laughed. He considered her family, out of all the people in this world that he could've, he considered her family. She carefully wiped his tears away and smiled at him. "You're like family to me to, Eyre, you really, truly are." It was hard to think that this wonderful, amazing boy was her friend. She couldn't believe he had such a childhood, he was such a sweet and caring person, it astounded her that his own family, his own blood treated him like that. She gently grabbed his hand and looked up at him, " I really do mean it Eyre, th...thank you."
She looked around and then back at Eyre, shivering slightly as she came back to reality and at how cold it was. The wind blew against the two of them and she shivered, wearing a dress today of all days had not been a good idea. "N...Now that you know you have...haven't blinded me, cou...could we go inside before I freeze, y...you were ri...right, I should...shouldn't have worn a dress today," She told him, rubbing her arms to try and warm up. He was so going to tease her, curse him having to be right. She smiled sheepishly at him, her hair once again falling in front of her face to cover her blind eye.

He couldn't help but smile and squeeze her hand once she said that she felt the same. Eyre felt like a weight had been lifted from him with his confession, and he was grateful that they were both on the same page.
The melancholy moment was broken when Tallis complained of being cold. As sweet as the moment was for the two of them, he couldn't help but tease her. "I was telling you!" He laughed, wiping away the rest of his tears and giving her a nudge. "Of course, of course... We can go in.. Are you hungry?" He said, pulling his bag on as they walked towards the castle together, an arm around her shoulder. Going into the snowball fight, he expected it to just be casual fun. Instead, he felt like it was a necessary step in strengthening their friendship. They could now trust each other with anything.
For the first time in Eyre's life, he felt like he had a true ally in his corner, someone that wasn't going to judge him or ignore him because he didn't 'measure up' to their own expectations. He was grateful that they'd met so soon into his Hogwarts journey. He'd never have to feel alone anymore, as long as she was around, and he was certain that she felt that way too.
