The Department of Magical Law Enforcement had been given an assignment that sounded incredibly straightforward. While this was supposed to be a fun activity for the younger and older Students, this was also an opportunity to gain a badge for one’s fulfilled duty as a Ministry Official. Those who’d want to work as an Auror later could now train their eyes to focus, their senses to sharpen and their minds to comprehend what one sees, hears, or perhaps just thinks they saw or heard.

Patrolling the Campgrounds was by far no task for a distracting conversation between you and your Department Members, however it was encouraged to not walk around alone. After all, safety came in numbers when walking into unknown territory.

Your task is to report any unusual activity, magical abnormalities or suspicious happenings. Write them down, see whether you can stop them from happening or… join in? Whatever one may decide on, this activity calls for creativity and a unique set of skills.

Upon approaching the table where Students would receive their task, they would find a stack of official-looking forms. Beside them stood quills, snacks and drinks, as patrolling is known to possibly become quite the long task,

The patrol itself was entirely up to the campers Ministry trainees, officials and workers themselves.

Perhaps they would walk the perimeter of the campgrounds. Perhaps they would investigate the cabins. Perhaps they would simply wander through the trees while attempting to look sufficiently authoritative.

Whatever route was chosen, they would need to keep their eyes open.

Because something unusual was bound to happen eventually.
OOC: Participants will be provided with a list of 20 possible things they might encounter during their patrol. Roll a D20 in Discord to determine what happens, or ask the moderation team to roll for you.

- An NPC insists they saw “a suspicious cloaked figure” but their description changes every time they tell the story.
Vale stared down at the table stacked with what could be comparable to doing over-the-summer homework. Stacks of paper that demanded a detailed report of everything suspicious that was found on Vale's predetermined patrol of the camp. She took a flick of paper with a raised eyebrow, inspecting the sheet just to see if it happened to be the same textured paper that had her name tagged.

It seems awfully humorous. The amount of effort people endure to become Aurors, only to do something as mundane and bleak as writing dull reports. Even as Vale's red pupils scanned the words across the paper, she couldn't find a sense of subjective thrill to be had. She flipped the paper over and over, expecting to find something of note, but nothing. Report on her findings.

Vale let out a sigh, tilting her head in her observations before partaking in shoving a few snacks into her robes, and a carry of her chosen drink, ensuring it wasn't overly sugared. Doctor's orders.

With an ease of slip, Vale simply moved along with zero concern regarding having an 'ally' besides her during the patrol. Vale simply didn't need one. Anything of a 'threat' would simply spot her and turn tail as usual. Speaking of such, her report may very well be dull after all.

"I could just lie about it, yes. Maybe I could say I found something quite dead? Oh hush Ashes, lying isn't so bad if the truth doesn't hurt all the same." Vale spoke to nobody in general...except down to two ragdolls with stitched smiles and frowns.

Vale, on the other hand, smiled all without the need of threaded help.

She hummed thoughtfully, wandering along a chosen path that only led Vale to sketchy areas of the camp. She casually stepped over broken tree limbs and avoided uneven ground. Vale's boots heavily cracked the ground beneath her. Just as she was about to write her bogus story, she spotted something convincingly human hurrying back and forth on the dense tree ground. That even made Vale halt in her roaming, tilting her head as this person kept their nervous gait.

Her smile lurked back onto her face, and she swerved over in a curious manner.

"You're acting as if you found a dead body! Where is it? Is the flesh still on it?"

That made the person nearly jump and bolt off at the antagonistic sound of Vale's voice. A nervous stare before a measly return to their gait. Oh, interesting. Something giving a person a reason to be less afraid of Vale than that something?

"There's something sketchy going on at this camp. I just know it. Especially after what I've seen." The figure spoke in a mutter. Vale turned her head, blinking her lenses to take in moisture. Despite her spot, dryness still seems to be a lurking factor. Sigh.

"So...no dead body?" The figure began to be flabbergasted by Vale's pursuit of a morbid answer. "N-No! At least, not yet, maybe never at all, I hope." That definitely got Vale's attention. Her eyes lit up eagerly.

"Okay, spill the guts. What is making you jump around like a frog? A ghost? A dark wizard?" The person nervously looked away before whispering down to Vale. "Some sketchy lookin' fellow in a robe. Caught them lurking about the camp, you see. Look up to no good."

Vale looked herself over, "You're gonna have to be a bit more specific. I can at least name one person who holds that incredible reputation, and I am very, utterly selfish about who else can have it. Dare I say, almost willing to kill over it." That made the person straighten up. Vale only kept her smile, only giggling at her own, bizarre joke.

"Black robes...er, gray laces. Tall. Taller than me." Vale only hummed. Maybe she found something interesting enough to write a real report over. Just as she was about to sign off on her dull paperwork, "W-Wait, no! It was...it was gray robes and black laces." Such a shame to have a poor memory recollection. Someone like that wouldn't even be able to hold a grudge for a day. Well, in fairness, it wasn't like Vale knew much about keeping harsh grudges of her own.

"Black robes or gray robes? Come on, I have no time to play such a boring game you're entailing here. I've broken bones for a lot less, you know." The person fumbled again in a panic. "B-Black robes! I swear by it! B-By the cabins. Must've been looking for something! Or someone?" Vale sighed, writing away on her report anyway. They were uh...they were wearing black clothes too. Or...or grey too...?" They hurried up when Vale looked back up to them with newly bored eyes.

"A-Anyways! They were at the cabins! Looking for...looking for something, yes." "Wonderful! Go get them." The person became flabbergasted again. "I-I beg your pardon? Vale waved a hand off to where the cabins were. "Go get them. Tell them to come here and explain themselves. And then we can go looking for dead bodies together. Isn't that a horrific yet wondrous ending to our turmoil? I brought snacks." Vale pulled out some sort of savory treat from her robe, shaking it as if to entice her witness.

They swallowed, "That's not...! T-They're looking to commit a crime-!" "And I'm bored and feel tempted to commit crimes of my own. What is an upcoming Auror to do? I can't have that on my record beforehand; can I now? Shouldn't adults be good role models to children? Go. Get. Them. If you don't come back by sundown with our suspicious friend, I may have to disarm you of your wand and conduct a merciless investigation. I mean by removing your arms from your body, of course. You don't really need them anyway, now do you? I heard many people can cast magic without their wands." They made a jump and bolted off in the direction of...not even the cabins. Well, Vale didn't even have to do much.

Vale signed her report off, considering it a closed case.

"Now Ashes, I believe we did what we needed to, hm? Let's turn this dull paper in and consider it a closed case. I don't believe our lying friend will be back anytime soon. What a shame." The ragdoll did not speak back; it could not, wouldn't. "What? You wish to still explore? Hm, okay. But if we find real bones, we're only taking one. Father said we can't be greedy. We have a bunch at home already. Vale laughed, and into the shadowy trees, she lurked away.

Raphael made his way over to the table with the list of tasks where there were a bunch of other students also waiting to receive instructions. For once, he wasn't going to let his cousin drag him around. He was just going to go do the work by himself. No human interaction is what would make the patrol significantly more enjoyable after all.

He looked down at the paper with his name written down. He read the instructions. Look for suspicious activity and note it down. Seemed simple enough, he was good at noting down observations. He had spent hours in his family's garden researching and making notes on the various plants there after all. He grabbed a quill and parchment to begin his patrol. He also made sure to grab some snacks to keep himself fuelled during the work. He knew it was important to eat and make sure you have enough energy to work efficiently.

And so he began. He decided to investigate the cabins, there was always some or the other trouble bound to occur near them after all. Maybe someone fighting? Maybe someone causing general chaos? Who knew. He was simply going to go find out. Though, he suspected perhaps maybe everything would be ordinary. Today seemed like an ordinary kind of day after all.

Well he wasn't entirely wrong. It had started out rather ordinary so one could hardly blame him for thinking it would stay ordinary. He simply walked between cabins. As he walked by each one, he began to note down. He wrote the name of the cabin he passed and then wrote down what he spotted. For the most part, he simply wrote nothing happened. Occasionally he would make note that stuff seemed out of place but nothing worth an investigation. So overall, it was shaping up to be an ordinary day.

That was until he reached a few cabins down from his own. That's when he finally noted something out of the ordinary. He noticed jelly slugs strew across the ground. Well it was his job to investigate. So like any normal person, he followed the line of slugs. It seemed to lead right to a bush. There was rustling near the bush as well. Raphael took a breath and prepared himself for whatever may be behind the bush. Who knew what was in the bush. Well, soon he would know.

Upon reaching the bush, he looked behind it and the sight shocked him slightly. There was a fluffy grey cat having a feast of a packet of jelly slugs. What was more shocking was that he actually knew whose cat it was. It was Fawkes' cat Seren. It seemed that someone in their cabin had kept the door open and Seren being ever curious had wandered out and somehow gotten her paws on a packet of jelly slugs. He sighed. He knew Fawkes would be in a state of panic if she realised her beloved cat was missing.

It took him a few minute but he soon had Seren safely locked in their cabin once again. He made sure to note down his findings down on his parchment. The rest of his patrol went by rather normally. At the end, he turned in his report and then wandered away wondering what to do now. Perhaps he would go see if Seren would like some company in their cabin....

Kahira Valerian
xxxxx
Though young incoming first-year Kahira Valerian had originally been quite suspicious of her placement in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement a few days prior when arriving at camp, now she had to admit that it was certainly an ace move on the parts of whoever had assigned cabin arrangements. Patrolling the camp, on the lookout for anything untoward - well, while Kahira herself had exactly zero desire to go into an Auror position when she inevitably graduated from Hogwarts with top honours and an Outstanding N.E.W.T.-level Potions degree, for now she was slowly realising that having some power over her fellow students was rather enjoyable.

Her brand-new elder-wood wand clutched tightly in her manicured hand (not that she knew much on how to do anything with it quite yet), Kahira skulked along the outer edges of the campgrounds, her dark eyes peeled for any suspicious behaviour. There could've been plenty of infractions worth pulling someone over for - untucked shirts, general body odour, playing with Muggle toys on a magical campus, terrible fashion sense, looking at her the wrong way - and, if she were to be honest, she was almost sort of hoping to run into one @Jeremy Slater. Though they hadn't spoken since their ill-advised and, frankly, disastrous forced-together shopping trip in Diagon Alley a little over a week before, Kahira knew the rat was here at the camp. She could almost smell him, with his horrible whining, awful attempts at insults, and clothes that looked as if his mother had chosen them for him - because she had, of course. She wasn't exactly sure what types of punishments she could dole out on this patrol - detention, maybe? Or was that only for prefects? - but she could at least wield some semblance of authority over him with her cabin assignment, for Kahira sincerely doubted that he would have been seen as worthy enough to be put in Law Enforcement, too. On that note, perhaps I should apply for the Slytherin prefecture in the coming years, she reflected, her heels making dull thuds along the dirt path as she continued to walk. Giving detentions does sound almost... fun.

She skidded to a halt, however, in the next moments, thrust from her own thoughts like a Bludger into the opposing Seeker's diaphragm. Someone had left their trunk here, in the centre of the path, just spilling over with clothings of all shapes and sizes and styles; Kahira had nearly trodden on a gorgeous white blouse with lace trim. She huffed, nudging the trunk with the toe of her green suede boot. "What am I, your house-elf?" the redhead muttered under her breath before giving the trunk a hearty shove with the heel of her foot; it skittered to the side of the pathway, at least out of her way. But if they thought she would be cleaning up this mess - well, someone had just gotten the wrong idea. She was law enforcement, not a maid.

Still, though, if someone had left all their clothes out here, they clearly didn't care for them. Kahira knelt, her fingers gently tracing the lace on the collar of the white blouse upon which she'd nearly stepped - and then she picked it up off the ground, glancing around suspiciously to ensure that no one had seen her, before rolling it up and tucking it into her white purse. A bit of laundering and the thing would be good as new, and would certainly go well with her Hogwarts uniform in the fall. It was the original owner's fault - though Kahira certainly didn't know the Muggle phrase finders keepers, losers weepers, it definitely applied in this context. Kahira stood, brushing imaginary dirt from her dress, then continued off down the path, humming jauntily under her breath and imagining what other miscreants she may run into on this patrol...
