Out of the blue
The young Huffle roamed through the castle. In her arms she held a bag with Astronomy books. She was on her way to one of the empty classrooms where she could study up on her classes. Fyriel had great interest in Astronomy, she was even thinking about becoming an Astronomy professor when she grew up. Fyriel didn’t need to study ,especially for this course since she almost had all straight O’s, she simply loved to gather as much information about Astronomy as she could. About the planets and their orbits, what they were made of and how their rotation influenced certain aspects here on Earth. The girl had arrived at her study room for the day. Before she entered the room, she put her ear to the door and listened for any sounds. Nothing. Silence most likely meant the room wasn’t occupied or at least not by loud students or a professor teaching their class. Fyriel reached for the handle of the door, slowly turned the knob till she heard the lock click and pushed open the door. She walked in already starting to unpack the books from her bag when she noticed another presence in the classroom. Someone else was in here already. Fyriel considered briefly to turn around and find somewhere else to sit but it would be awkward to walk out now so instead she nodded to the girl as a shy hello and found herself a seat.
As she walked over to one of the empty desks and placed her books on it she felt a familiar sense when looking at the other girl. Hmm, I must have seen her before but I won’t ask her about it at the moment, I don’t want to interrupt her. Fyriel reached for her quill and ink in her robe pocket and unfolded several pieces of parchment that were neatly placed in between the pages of her Astronomy books. She pressed the creases in the parchment out on the desk. Fyriel glanced over at the other student once more but couldn’t supress her curiosity any more thus she cleared her throat and said: “Hi, sorry if I’m interrupting but you seem kind of familiar to me… Have we met before? Are you a first year too?” With that Fyriel gazed upon the other female student in the classroom and eagerly waited for her reply, slightly nervous because she didn’t want this to be an awkward conversation or upset her for interrupting her study time.

Santario took up her usual roost in an empty classroom studying for her final exams as they were right around the corner. Plus, all the catching up she had to do after hers tint in the infirmary after the Blossom ball. She sighed and ran her hand through her hair while she looked over her notes, making sure that she was committing it all to memory; it was mainly transfiguration that gave her issues.
She would be in the room alone for quite a while before suddenly, the door handle clicked loudly. She jumped slightly but composed herself before the person even entered the room. Her sharp sapphire eyes appraised the other girl who walked in. Santario watched her for a moment as she walked over to a table and set up her stuff. Since San hadn’t been noticed, she would just look back down at her notes and continue reading.
It was with the clearing of her throat that brought those sharp eyes back up to the girl who started to speak. “I am a first year as well though I don’t believe we’ve met formally. You may have seen me in any due classes or the dining hall, maybe? I’m Santario.” Her silvery voice answered, truth be told Santario could be seen quite a few places she was in the first quidditch match of the year on the Slytherin team, her name had been in the Hogwarts Headliner many times as a writer and an editor, and she was well known as the girl with the camera glued to her face. Though her camera would be nowhere to be seen today.

The sapphire eyed girl introduced herself to Fyriel as Santario. She explained she was a first year just like the Hufflepuff girl. “Is your full name Santario.. Martin? I think I’ve seen that name in the Hogwarts Headliner.”, Fyriel hesitately asked her new acquaintance. The young Huffle added; “Right, I think I saw you around with Erik? Erik Tharaldson? He’s a friend of mine.. well kind of a friend” Fyriel clicked her tongue and slightly squinted her eyes while saying that last part. She had run into the Slytherin boy a couple of times but not all of those times were friendly. Fyriel still had to make up her mind about him. Perhaps this Santario person could clear it up a bit for her. “Say, are you two close friends?” Fyriel inquired timidly. The young Huffle wasn’t usually so nosy but she wanted to know what kind of people she was getting involved with.
Wearing her go-to Hufflepuff scarf and school robes it was quite obvious to anyone’s eye that Fyriel was a proud badger. The dark-blue, almost black hair was flowing loosely down her back today. She had pinned a few front strands together at the back of her head which gave the illusion she was wearing a tiara. Two separate black strands dangled in front of her face, she tried hard not to keep putting them behind her ears but they kept tickling her face. The silver necklace she received from her sister was around her neck as every other day, she never took it off except for swimming but since she hated swimming, that was a rare occasion. As an eleven year old Fyriel had little to no experience with wearing makeup but today she had used a tinted lipgloss to moisturize her lips and it seemed to leave a cute pink stain, Fyriel liked how it gave some colour so her otherwise very pale face.

Santario had looked back down to finish the sentence that she had started so that she could just wrap her studies up as it seemed like this was going to bring about more talking. As she finished what she was writing, she nodded as the girl asked her what her full name was. “The one and only.” Considering her first name was decently unusual, she assumed that she was the one and only.
As she cleaned off her quill, the girl asked about a boy, she knew probably better than anyone else here knew. Her mind reminded her that the last time she really saw him, properly, was when she was covering him up with her jacket, his veins turned black from the numerous spider bites he had received. Santario placed her blue feathered quill in its case and capped her ink before looking back up at the girl, asking her if she and Erik were close friends.
Were, once, She thought to herself as she decided how to word this. “We are closer than most other people.” That, for the most part, was right since they knew things about each other that no one else here did. “He’s a cocky jerk in the beginning. All about the Great Erik Tharaldson.” She rolled her eyes with a soft chuckle speaking casually. “He’s mostly a nice kid once you get past the pride.” While Santario had good reason to speak badly of the boy and mar his perfect pretty boy reputation, she wouldn’t. He would owe her for this, and she would make sure that one day he knew that. Considering she had barely seen him since that terrible night in December and now this girl was telling her they were friends kinda… It made her angrier underneath the façade she put up. The next time she saw him, she was going to hit him, she swore it.

Santario had told Fyriel about her experience with Erik Tharaldson, from that information Fyriel gathered the Slytherin boy put up a mask to most people, she thought he could have trust issues and that explained his behaviour. Or perhaps he felt insecure about himself. Fyriel didn’t know, but from what Santario told her, she felt like he couldn’t be such a bad guy. Giving him the benefit of the doubt, she decided she would try and get to know him better, to try and figure out his mystery. The young Huffle loved solving mysteries, especially if those mysteries came in the shape of young, obnoxious boys that had shown her they could be hiding a soft core underneath their hard exterior.
“I appreciate your help, I’ve met him the other day and for some reason I couldn’t quite read him like I usually can with others.” Fyriel hesitated but continued ,” He was nice to me but something felt different with him.. Like he was hiding something.” Fyriel paused and replayed what she said in her head. Hmm, she probably thinks it’s weird that I’m telling her this. I mean, I just met her. And I just met him too.. “I mean, I’d like to get to know him better since I haven’t made many friends here yet but I wanted to know what I wanted a heads up on what he is like”, Fyriel shrugged at Santario with a quirky smile on her face. “Do you think.. he would ever be friends with a half-blood? I sensed he had a strong opinion regarding half-bloods and I don’t want to make him uncomfortable in any way.” Fyriel felt foolish to ask Santario this because the huffle found Erik’s opinion on how half-bloods were supposedly lesser than ‘his kind’ totally uncalled for but being a Hufflepuff in heart and soul meant she was also cursed with being open-minded and perhaps a bit too considerate for other’s assumptions. Fyriel would rather tell Erik off on this topic and show him he was wrong by proving herself to him but she had decided avoid a conflict during their last discussion.

Santario nodded at the girl when she told San she appreciated it. “No big deal. He’s an enigma.” It was true Erik didn’t make a whole lot of sense sometimes. He was straightforward with his self-serving attitude, but she wasn’t wrong when she thought that he was hiding something, because he most certainly was.
Santario wasn't entirely sure, but she assumed she was the only one besides any other werewolves who knew that he was actually one of them. The boy would always have an air of hiding something, no doubt. Then she brought up her being a half-blood, and that was a decently good question. “Let him become your friend first and avoid conversation about it for now. Once he sees how, probably, great you are, he will start to see that just because you aren’t a pureblood doesn’t mean you are less. The boy is complicated and requires time, but it’ll get there if you allow it to happen naturally. He was raised in a pureblood world, and that takes time to whittle down”
Maybe, she wasn’t entirely sure if he wouldn’t just drop her the moment, he found out she was a half-blood, but there was a chance that if she approached it correctly, they could have a friendship that would blossom.

As Santario talked about Erik’s complicated bond with half-bloods Fyriel thought back to her earlier conversation with the Tharaldson boy. She recalled he had tried not to come over as a total asshat about the topic but the tension between the two had been recognizable from a while away. Fyriel wasn’t just going to give upon him. She was positive and motivated to change his mind about half-blood wizards and witches, even if she could only change his mind about one in particular, herself, she would be satisfied. For one odd and still unknown reason Fyriel felt a connection between her and the Slytherin boy, perhaps her distinction from other people had something to do with that, could it be he is the same as her?
Seeming content with the information she had gathered about Erik thanks to Santario, Fyriel thanked the Slytherin girl and finished some of the essays she had been working on. After a fifteen minutes or so of working in silence the Huffle girl packed up her things and stood up from the desk. “It was nice meeting you Santario. I might see you around?”, Fyriel spoke toward the her new acquaintance in a friendly yet hesitating voice. Fyriel was happy she had gathered the courage to talk to Santario, being a shy girl and sometimes having difficulty to control her emotions, which could lead to surprises in her case, it was a good step towards being a more social butterfly as her mother had instructed her to.
Fyriel left the study room and let the door close with a soft click. In her mind she started to organize the rest of her day as she had lots to do. The lady was on her way to her dorm room to pack her belongings for her trip. The young Hufflepuff had decided not to tell anyone about her departure. She figured it wouldn’t make much of a difference as she had only attended one year at Hogwarts and hadn’t made any friends yet. A few acquaintances here and there but it seemed strange to go up to them and tell them she was leaving Hogwarts. She had only met them once or twice. It wasn't like they actually knew her well, no one had even gotten to know her well enough yet to find out what she was. A metamorphmagus. Fyriel had done an excellent job at keeping her secret safe.
Fyriel had gotten a letter from her parents a week before in which they explained how due to her dad’s work as a zoologist, they would have to move to another country. They wanted to let Fyriel finish her year at Hogwarts but unfortunately after that she would have to attend a different school that was closer to their new home. She had no idea which school she was going to as she had only ever heard of Hogwarts, Ilvermorny and Durmstrang. The Hufflepuff felt homesick and had been upset for the past week. The thought of having to leave her childhood home where she had made so many memories… It had broken her heart. On the other hand she was thankful to move together with her family, if they had left her on her own in the United Kingdom by herself she would definitely be upset. Leaving Hogwarts was another aspect which had caused her to feel blue. She loved this school and had waited years to finally be able to attend, after one year she had to leave already.. What a shame. Fyriel planned to make a thank-you-note or thank-you-poster and leave it in the Hufflepuff dorm room on her last day. She didn’t want people to become worried when she suddenly didn’t show up to class anymore so leaving something behind seemed like a nice plan.
