When A Light Conversation Deepens
Sunday, June 28th
6:30 P.M
Nell was taking a stroll by the lake on a warm, Tuesday evening. She was wearing a loose yellow shirt and a pair of white shorts, frayed at the bottom. She had white ankle socks on a checkered black and white shoes that rose up to her ankles. Nell's hair was, as usual, down. She had thought it would be nice to go for a little stroll by the lake. It would be good for her to take her mind off school work and all for a bit. She walked slowly for she was in no hurry to get back to her dorm - not in the slightest. She slowly raised her head up to look at the sunset. The sky was mixed with shades of oranges, yellows, purples, and pinks. Maybe she could paint it later. Duly noted. She continued her walk, taking in the soft glow from the setting sun on her pale skin. She glanced into the water quickly to make sure there was no killer squid about to pull her under. She had survived her first year at Hogwarts so far, and wanted to keep it that way until she graduated. She sighed and quickened her pace. She didn't even know what time it was. It could already be past curfew and Nell didn't feel like going to detention. Just then. Nell bumped into a fellow student and stumbled backwards. "Sorry about that," she said quickly.

When A Light Conversation Deepens
Penelope was reading intently, barely dodging the many students trying to get inside of the castle. Her mind was focused on one thing, finishing the book in her arms. She didn't care if she ran into someone, nor if she tripped over a rock and fell somewhere. All she needed to do was sit down, finish her book, and then she could continue on with her day.
Perhaps this was the reason, or perhaps it was that she needed glasses desperately but refused to get them, Penelope didn't see it when her own classmate was walking right towards her, neither looking where they were going. Penelope ran smack into them, and then pulled back, surprised.
"Sorry!" said Penelope, and the same moment, the other Ravenclaw girl apologized as well. The girl in front of her was fammilar, and she squinted for a moment, trying to figure out where she had seen her before. Penelope's eyes drifted to the girl's hair, and then she remembered.
"Sorry about that,"
It was entirely my fault, I shouldn't be reading while walking." said Penelope, and, after a small silence, she extended her hand out for greeting. "You're Nell, right? Nell... Zodiac? she asked, hoping she did recognize her, and it wasn't some other girl.
Penelope closed up her book and placed it into her bag, and pushed a strand of hair behind her ear.

Nell looked up at the girl. She didn't quite recognize her at first, but then it came to her. As the girl said Nell's last name, Nell cringed slightly. "Well, yes, I'm Nell Zoldak," she said, putting emphasis on her last name. "And I believe your Penelope," Nell replied. "Penelope Alexander," she added. Nell hadn't had many encounters with this fellow Ravenclaw, but she seemed nice enough. Nell knew Penelope was a reader, just like Nell. At least they had one thing in common. Nell wasn't the type to converse with others, heck, even be around others by her own will, but, she decided to - just today. "So, um, what are you reading there?" Nell asked Penelope. It wasn't the best choice of a conversation starter since Nell herself absolutely despised that question, but she hoped Penelope didn't mind. Nell rarely left a bad impression, but she couldn't care less at this point. She'll have some friends, she'll have some enemies. What could she do about it? Nell stuck her hands in the pockets of her shorts instinctually. She played around with a piece of paper in her pocket as she waited for an answer from Penelope. Nell perked up when she responded.Interacting With @Penelope Alexander

"Indeed I am." At least I didn't get her name completely wrong. thought Penelope, but the shade of red in her cheeks deepened.
So, um, what are you reading there?
"To be honest, I'm not quite sure of the title. Half of the book is in ancient ruins. It's quite interesting to read, actually, but it does get annoying at times.
Penelope gave a small laugh, making a mental note to remember Nell's name. Telling someone else what she was reading didn't bother her, as much as it made her mind swirl and churn like a cyclone.
It made her question herself, wondering why she was reading what she was. Could there be a reason half of the book was in ancient ruins? Who had written the book? Was there a secret code of some sort engraved into the words?
Penelope's mind had been churned and frazzled so much, she could feel her eyes unfocus. Quickly, Penelope pulled herself back to the conversation, trying not to get distracted again. It was hard, though, when the world was so interesting.
She toyed with the tassels on the edge of her bag, counting each and every one of them, (There was a wide range of numbers, from 56-87, sometimes ever in the hundreds) as Nell responded.

Nell returned Penelope's small laugh by doing the same. "I don't know much of Ancient Runes, but I've gone about trying to translate it a bit," Nell said. "They're pretty interesting to say the least," she added. "At least we get to learn about them in, what, is it third year? Or it may be fourth-" she stopped herself. "Anyways," she said quietly. Nell glanced up at the setting sun wearily. Was it past curfew? She had no way of knowing but this conversation could get interesting pretty quickly. "So," Nell began, "Do you have a favorite class?" Nell asked. Why was she making a conversation? This was not like her at all. As she waited for Penelope to respond she took note of the temperature drop. It had to have gone down at least a couple degrees, right? She shivered slightly and decided it was just her. No, it wasn't. Something was definitely- Nell glanced up to see the sun had begun to set more quickly and more noticeably by now. Students made their way inside the castle quickly for the fear of Prefects and Professors. Nell was afraid too but she decided to stay here and converse just a bit longer,

They're pretty interesting to say the least. At least we get to learn about them in, what, is it third year? Or it may be fourth-". Nell stopped talking, and Penelope followed her gaze to the setting sun. The last of the students were running inside, and Penelope could see it was almost time to head back to the castle.
"So, do you have a favorite class?"
Penelope nodded enthusiastically. Charms. It's always been my favorite. My brother. William, loved to- Penelope stopped, her eyes darkening. William was a sensitive, difficult topic. Could she really talk to Nell about him so soon? She had no idea if she could trust her or not. Deciding it was now or never, Penelope plunged back into the conversation.
"My brother, William, loved charms too. We used to pretend to be casting different spells with sticks from the yard. We don't really get to do things like that anymore, though." she said, trying to sound light but failing. She gave a half smile, although the uncertainty never left her eyes.
Penelope shook her head, as if trying to get the thought of William out. It would only bring more confusion into the conversation, and she decided not to bring him up anymore. What good would it do? Penelope let the thought flow out of her mind as she exhaled, and realized she became more relaxed when she did this. She smiled as she awaited Nell's response.
