Sam was laying down in her room and despite being so exhausted, she wasn't able to sleep. She looked over at her nightstand and saw her wand laying there and then looked out the window. Gently getting out bed, she decided to go sneak out into the Courtyard. She opened her trunk and pulled out her jacket and slipped on her boots. She leaned over her bed and grabbed her wand and put it in her jacket. Right as she was about to leave she stopped. She noticed that her book was poking out from under her pillow and she decided to bring that too. She put her hood over her head and with a lantern in one hand and her book in the other, she snuck out of the Hufflepuff dormitory.

"Finally," she whispered to herself as she finally got to the Courtyard. She wanted to sit where the moonlight was so it would be easier to read, but instead, she sat in the dark so no one could see her. She put the lantern out and sat it at the end of the bench. She sat down and took out her book. "The Chronicles of Narnia." She opened it and took out the bookmark. "Should've brought the whole set with me." Sam let out a slight huff and then started reading.

Penelope soon discovered that night that sleep would be impossible to get, so she decided to get out of bed and go do something. She put on a Ravenclaw jacket, crept quietly out of the castle, and shivered as a blast of cold night air hit her face, turning her cheeks pink. To an onlooker, Penelope would've looked as if she had rubbed a basket of strawberries in her face and decided it looked nice.
She wandered around the courtyard for a bit, humming a made-up song in her head with no particular words or chorus.
In the center of the courtyard, she sat down for a moment, looking around. During the day, this was one of her favorite places to be. She loved to sit here, people-watching, a newfound hobby she didn't know she liked. At night, well, Penelope had never been out here at night, but now that she had, she believed honestly and truly it was one of her favorite places in the whole world. Quiet, calm, and empty, three words in which Penny thought made up the best place in the whole world.
I should've brought a book out here! she thought, suddenly wishing she had.
Penelope took a swift intake of breath and then stood up again, enjoying the sounds of the nighttime. There was some sort of growling or barking in the distance, and the moon shone brightly overhead.
"Amazing, she muttered to herself. Absolutely wonderful.
It was then that Penny noticed there was someone else in the courtyard. The dim light of a lantern shown in the distance, and hesitantly, Penelope peered towards it. She could see the outline of someone lying down and reading, and, knowing what it was like when someone snuck up on you, she snapped a large twig beneath her foot, warning the other in the courtyard that she was there.
Hello? she called, her voice carrying well.

Sam had been out in the courtyard for a while now. Although it didn't feel like it because reading helped pass the time.

Sam was certain that she was the only one out there until she heard a twig break. She put her bookmark in her book and sat then sat up. "Hello?" Sam looked into the darkness but couldn't see anyone. "I hate how our robes make it impossible to see people." She said to herself in an agitated tone. She sat her book on the bench and reached under it to grab her lantern. When she stood up the lantern barely lit up 3 feet in front of her. The other person that was here probably thought that Sam was keeping her composer by not freaking out, but Sam was hesitant to walk forward and look. She took a deep breath to keep herself calm and walked forward.

When Sam went forward a few feet, she stepped on something and she looked down to see what it was. "I'm guessing this was the twig." She knew that the person was probably hiding somewhere so she decided to find them.

After looking for a few minutes, Sam noticed someone was standing behind one of the pillars. "I'm guessing you couldn't sleep either?"

"Nope, couldn't sleep." Penelope said, her face growing an even deeper shade of red. It seemed as if no matter what she did, she was always embarrassed her first time meeting someone. Penelope wrapped her arms around herself, as if trying to keep out the cold.
She noticed that the lantern the girl had was dying, and it was casting a strange shadow onto the both of them.
"Have you been out here long?" Penelope asked.
Penelope allowed herself to relax, as she always did when she was cold, and she was constantly amazed at how it caused her to feel warmer. when she wasn't uptight and shivering, the cold nights were actually quite nice and enjoyable. She took her hair out of her ponytail for good measure, to keep her warm. Her long brown-black hair had grown quite a bit since she first came to Hogwarts, and it was now so thick that it could keep her head warm on a chilly night.
Penelope turned and looked at the student in front of her again.
"What's your name? I'm Penelope, but you can call me Penny if you'd like." Penelope smiled, and scuffled her feet along the ground as the other student answered.

Heather smiled, leaving the castle to explore the courtyard. While she loved being surrounded by people and friends, being by herself was amazing too. Everyone, even extroverts, needs a social break and time to think about things going on. Thankfully, everything at home is going well. Her mother had sent her an owl telling her about all the things happening. Amanda, her older sister, had gotten a girlfriend recently, and her behavior has improved (as it should, she's an adult!) Archer, her older brother, is jealous, but he'll find a girl soon. Heather just knows it.

As for her mother, her mental health has improved and she's gotten happier. As soon as Heather read that, her mood improved a lot. She loves her mother and is happy she's gotten better. No, the reason why she came to the courtyard was to think about her horrid grades. She had a problem with not being able to focus during classes and she needed to study. So she's come to the courtyard to do just that. Which will be hard, because she'll probably get distracted by a butterfly or even a blade of grass, but at least she's trying.

As she walked out, she noticed two people who were already out. Teachers, maybe? No, because one was sitting on the grass. The teachers would hate to get their robes dirty, so these must be students. Smiling, she skipped over to them, "Hi!"

I was holding the notebook, the notebook. The dreaded, ugly, horrible notebook. But I couldn't seem to let it slip just inches from my arms. So, I held onto it tight, still in the courtyard, I wanted to get out f here, to hide in a corner instead of looking at the pieces of parchment, scratched with a pencil, making shapes and words, some would call them impressive, but they wouldn't get the chance to. I would never sow this to anyone unless I was ready to die for them. I started walking through the sea of people in the courtyard, noticing all the friendly conversations with a pang of pain. I cautiously stepped in the direction of Gryffindor Tower. To safety. I was almost out of the courtyard when I was startled so badly at an overenthusiastic
"Hi!" I jumped back, shocked, before I could notice they weren't talking to me. Oh well, not like anyone would ever think Oh, I want to be friends with that obviously insane person clutching a ruined notebook. Like, who would want to be friends with me? I honestly, really don't know why I keep trying to make people interact with me, they don't want to. I won't compel them to torture anymore. I did want somebody to talk to me, but that hope was like a tiny, flickering flame on a small candle that just got doused with a bucket of ice water. It was inevitable. Rayna Jangnan. All alone. Just like every other day of my life.
