There were so many people! Bella was excited that there were some people she knew, and others she didn't.
Xio gave Bella an enthusiastic hug as soon she saw her, which Bella happily gave back. Then, Xio -- being Xio -- set off a rapid-fire set of exchanges and questions to the other Ravenclaw girl, who Bella now recognized as Aster after several meetings in Diagon Alley, the school hallways, and in classes.
At Xio's pause and question, Bella took the opportunity to speak up.
"Yep! We have met in the Diagon Alley before school started and also in classes and meetings around the school hallways. That's Aster. Hi, Aster!" Bella smiled and waved. Bella looked around, trying to see who was also here at the party. There was another Slytherin girl who she recognized as Jay, but they honestly haven't talked much.
Xio giggled with happiness and tugged on Bella's arm, taking her attention away from everything that was happening. Xio pointed towards the ferret on Jay's shoulders. Bella could tell that her friend was completely taken by the cute animal, almost not restraining her enthusiasm.
"Hey, Xio, maybe you should get a pet! An owl or a ferret, maybe?" Bella brought up when Xio's shoulders sagged as she watched Jay bring the ferret away. Bella hated to see her friend so disappointed, and she could tell that Xio would probably be an amazing pet-owner.
Suddenly, Bella heard a noise and turned her head. Bella's eyes widened as she watched an older boy riding a broom, performing a challenging trick before dropping to the ground. Bella clapped alongside Xio as the boy landed and walked over to where Jay stood.
"We should go talk to them!" Bella exclaimed, looking at Xio once before making her decision.
Dragging Xio along with her, Bella walked up to where Jay and the boy who flew the broom really well stood.
"Hi! I'm Bella, first-year Slytherin, and this is my friend Xio! What do you think of this amazing party? Also, we were completely amazed by your amazing broom trick," Bella looked at the boy, then spun to look at the girl. "And your ferret." She smiled. "And this place in general!"

Azzure let out a light laugh at how the girl — who now introduced herself as Jay — had called the glasses he was wearing cool. "This?" he asked, his scarred fingers pointing to the sleek black framed glasses he had on. "This is nothing compared to what you've got going on. You've got pretty great style if ya ask me." Azz spoke, his voice kind and gentle now knowing that the girl he was talking to was younger than him. However their conversation quickly came to a halt as another first year aproached asking if they could join in. Azz ever the senior in this group immediately piped up, "Hey! Course ya can join! Our increadibly generous host over here prepared more than enough snacks for all of us." Azzure spoke pointing towards Avery.
Then suddenly a group of three younger students came up to them raving about Azz's earlier stunt. As soon as he heard the words, 'we were completely amazed by your broom stunt... and your ferret... and this place in general' Azzure let out a boisterous laugh, not to chastise them or because of any ill will, but because he remembered just how magical Hogwarts was in his first year. Despite how many times he messed up and how many problems he'd caused, being a first year is something special. And now as he faced all these juniors, he had the power to make these memories of Hogwarts special for them, and it made Azzure so happy to see these kids experience the little joys in life.
"Hey thanks! Yall are real flatterers yknow, I'm sure when you're in your third year, yall will be waayy better than me. If ya want I could show you some more cool tricks, but first we can't let these snacks go to waste, can we? Everybody dig in!" Azzure spoke, taking a big handful of popcorn and popping it into his mouth.

Aster laughed as she listened to Xio introduce herself. She reached out and shook her hand.
"Hi, Xio! I'm Aster. It's really nice to meet you. I'm in Crowned Eagle, and my favorite subjects so far are Transfiguration and Herbology, but Potions is really cool, too. What's your favorite place at Hogwarts so far?"
Aster waved at Bella, then changed her mind and walked over to give her a quick hug. It was good to see a familiar face at this... party? "How have you been, Bella? It's good to see you. Anything new?"
Just then, Xio started squealing about something. Aster spun around and spotted a brown, furry noodle sitting on a Slytherin girl's shoulder. It was a ferret!
She grinned and watched as Xio bounced up and down, enthralled by the creature. He was so cute! Xio clearly loved animals as much as Aster did. She made a mental note to see if Xio would want to sneak down to the Care of Magical Creatures classroom later to take a look at all the creatures.
Aster wanted to grab the ferret and snuggle him, but it wasn't hers, so she restrained herself and watched with amusement as it sniffed around the snack table. She caught it's owner's eye and smiled shyly. "Hi. I'm Aster. What's your ferret's name? Does he like to play? How do you take care of him?"
Then, everyone's attention was arrested by the coolest third year Aster had seen as he swooped in on his broom and landed perfectly. He flew so well! Her Flying Class sessions were still painfully awkward, but she wished she could fly half as well as this boy, who introduced himself as Azz.
Aster joined Bella and Xio, who were enthusiastically introducing themselves to the newcomer. She joined in, breathless. "How did you learn how to fly like that? Are you ever scared?"
As the party wound on, Aster ate some popcorn and jelly slugs and continued to socialize. She was especially glad to meet Eleanor, a gryffindor, and spend more time with Bella and Xio. Eventually, she pulled out a deck of Exploding Snap cards and held them up. "Anyone want to play?"

Bella looked around at all her new acquaintances and friends. When Aster asked whether they wanted to play a game of Exploding Snap, she eagerly agreed.
"Yes! I would love to play a game of Exploding Snap! Umm...how do you play?" Bella chuckled.
She grabbed a handful of popcorn and other delicacies as she looked down at her cards.
"So... while we play this game, want to get to know each other better? What do you all like to do? See? Play? What is your dream vacation? I'm Bella Light, first-year Slytherin. I love reading and writing, as well as solving mysteries, puzzles, riddles, and exploring Hogwarts! I'm not 100% sure what I want to do after I graduate Hogwarts, but I'm planning on enjoying four years of Hogwarts first before having to decide. I completely enjoy just hanging out with my friends!"

"Oh, and I have a riddle for you all," Bella took out a piece of paper from her pocket and read it out loud. "I speak without a mouth and hear without ears. I have no body, but I come alive with wind. What am I?"
