The rehearsal room was empty when Jada walked in. Good she thought. She'd come here to practice. Alone. She could play the flute for as long as she could remember but as she'd started at Hogwarts it had been left behind, forgotten. Only once had she played it, when auditioning for spring royalty, which had gone surprisingly well given her little practice. Today was the first time she could get away on her own to practice.
Jada had never been in this room, she'd barely ever even been on this floor. Most students just kept walking past the fourth floor on their way to classes. Only duellists or actually musicians and dancers came here. The room was empty save for a few music stands standing to one side. Dim evening light filtered through the great, arching windows casting the room in an eerie glow. The soft thudding of her footsteps resonated as she made her way to one of the empty music stands before adjusting the height and angle of it.
It was a simple piece. "The Swan" by Camille Saint-Saëns. Note and rhythm wise is was quite repetitive, it shouldn't have been very challenging. Yet when Jada tried, it would come out wrong. "Stupid song. Why can't you just sound how you're supposed to?" she muttered to herself.
She tried again, slowing down even more to focus on her accuracy. If anyone were to come in, they would find her leaning forwards slightly, into her sheet music and repeating the same section over and over again, determined to get it right.
Eventually, she got fed up. "Aargh! This is stupid!" All she wanted to do was hurl her flute as far away from her as she could, but she all too well knew just how much instruments cost.
