Pre-Summer Egg Race! Finished

Invited to Egg Race

It was finally here! The day Willow had waited and prepared for was here. She had come up with an idea for a pre-summer egg race as a way to wind down from all of the finals and before the summer vacation they had coming. For Willow, the stress of the upcoming Quidditch Match was looming over her and she needed some way to release all of that energy, so... eggs.

She first went to her beloved non-professor, Professor Kibitzer. She wasn't Willow's professor yet, but the young aspiring diviner took a liking to her. While Willow was ready to have to steal eggs, bowls, and spoons from the Great Hall for the event, she much rather go the rule abiding way of acquiring them. Especially with all the new rules and restrictions for the students, the staff seemed under enough pressure and Willow didn't want to add 'Great Hall Smuggler' to that list of things for them to be stressed out about.

With a couple of trips back and forth from her common room, it was finally all set up. They were to line up in a circle around the middle bowl and await instruction from Willow before beginning the much anticipated race. Willow would say hello and idly chat to anyone that interacted with her as they arrived but would politely excuse herself once everyone had shown up.

"Hiya friends and new faces~" A bright smile was fixated firmly on her face. "Before we start, I'm going to go ahead and explain all the rules before we begin! I promise there aren't many." After she were to explain the rules, she would count down from 3, and shout "Go!" For them to start spinning and begin.
Rules
  • Word count is still 200 words per post.
  • There is 1 action per round, the spinning is a free action whenever you have to re-do it.
  • There will be no shoulder checking intense enough to send someone to the hospital wing, lets have some non-life threatening fun.
  • Please post your action, stats, and abilities at the end of every post.
  • If you have any questions at any point during the game, please don't hesitate to owl or DM me on Discord. willowbean#8710
How The Game Works
  • First to the middle wins.
  • You start the game with bending over and putting your forehead on the end of a stick and spinning around it 5 times. A Stamina roll will determine whether or not you have a disadvantage. This is a free action, so you can still pick one of the three actions listed below as an action in that same post.
    Actions
  • Shoulder Checking - Strength vs Evasion Roll. You can only do this to the people to your right and left. By doing this action, you forego moving forward. If the strength roll is greater than or equal to 3 more than the evasion roll, then the target drops their egg and has to restart. Otherwise, if it is a success you stop them from advancing. A fail means they're allowed to go on with their action, and you stay where you are.
  • Steadying Yourself - No Roll. This is an action where you forgo movement, but gain a +1 advantage guaranteed, even if a success shoulder check happens (unless you have to restart). This is helpful if you start off the round with a -3 disadvantage. If you have to restart, then you lose the +1 advantage. Can stack as much as you want.
  • Advancing - Accuracy Roll. This is the only way to move forward (see tracker at end of post ). Depending on your roll is how far you move forward, and that's a secret. If you are shoulder checked successfully then you stay in the same place, or are made to start over.
First Mod will happen Sunday, July 5th.
Or after everyone posts.

𝓘t was almost the end of Amadea's third year and she had made a promise to herself: she would start trying new things. If she could learn anything from the past year, it was that life is short and she needed to appreciate every second she had on this beautiful planet. That was why she had signed up for this egg race. In all of her fourteen years of life, she had never participated in anything quite like this. It wasn't something that was completely unheard of to the Hufflepuff, however. She knew many Muggles participated in challenges such as these. She hoped that it would be a fun way to release some stress and also show her skills (or lack thereof).

Amadea studied her competition. Willow Anderson had spearheaded planning this event, so Amadea first headed over to her. "Thanks for planning this!" Amadea said to the first year. Amadea had only interacted with Willow a few times, while moderating her gobstones match and during the infamous dinner in the Great Hall where all of the new rules were announced but from the few interactions Amadea had with Willow, she had determined that Willow was a very nice person. She was excited to see what was going to happen.

Amadea recognized some of her competitors, namely her fellow third years including Dymphna and Alan, but there were even more that she didn't recognize at all. She also noticed her redheaded best friend, Ami, had signed up for this egg race as well. As much as Amadea loved her crazy fellow Hufflepuff, she knew Ami was very competitive (cough cough both of her Gobstones matches cough cough) and wouldn't spare Amadea simply because they were best friends. Amadea decided she would simply try to block out any noise or competitive banter Ami would most definitely try to taunt her with and focus on the task at hand. If she was distracted, that could cost her victory. She listened as Willow explained the rules: they had to spin around a stick five times and then race to the center. Amadea took a deep breath, trying to calm her mind for the competition. She could do this. Even if she didn't come in first, she was determined to at least not come in last.

So, Amadea listened for Willow's cue and then pressed her forehead against the stick, counting to five as she spun around. When she stood, she was quite dizzy and now understood the challenge of trying to walk toward the center. However, her competitive adrenaline had kicked in, so she wasted no time and attempted to take a step forward, hoping that her egg would stay balanced.

Boy, was Ami excited for this. While she used to pretend that she was chill and cool and all of that, she was harboring a huge, gigantic secret... she was super-duper, overly, hyper-competitive. Well... it wasn't a secret, but she had never seen it as a good part of her. Being competitive always seemed like such a bad thing to her- it had always seemed like a trait that only Slytherins had. She wasn't a Slytherin! She was a badger, 120%, through and through. And yet, she had an unquenchable thirst to win, or just to compete, in general. It was always the trivial things, too- who woke up the earliest in her dorm, how quickly she could get her homework done, how hard someone could punch...

So something like this egg race was perfect for her. She had been a relatively "good" student all year, and she was just itching to bump shoulders with some kid on the way to grab an egg. If someone (ahem, @Willow Anderson) didn't keep her in check, there was a pretty good chance that she'd get into a full-on fistfight with her neighbors. Scanning the various students who had shown up for the egg race, Ami grinned as she noticed her best friend, @Amadea Campbell, a little bit further down the lineup, but refrained from calling out to her. The other Hufflepuff redhead looked quite determined, and there was no way that Ami wanted to ruin her groove.

Her eyes narrowing as Willow counted down, signaling the start of the race, Ami immediately went to spin around and around, becoming more and more disoriented. Gah... even the more graceful of ballerinas or well-trained of martial artists would get dizzy from this. Finally done with all the spinning, Ami blinked slightly before glancing to her left and her right. She had a thirst... FOR BLOOD. But if she shoulder-checked @Alan Vanes, she figured that Scott would destroy her limb by limb. Instead, she turned her sights on poor @Søren Silverwood, and with an ear-shattering scream, lunged to plow into the poor boy.

Alan had been excited about the game Willow was planning. It was quite simple but seemed like a lot of fun and had the potential to be quite a difficult task. The third year would arrive at the courtyard with Tiger following his every step. So when he finally made it to the group of people, he knew that Tiger would most likely end up being a distraction to them all if he were to stay loose as he was quite curious and also known to be a beggar for attention. Therefore he assumed that Willow would have to watch out for the feline while they were playing the egg race game and he truly hoped that she would not be bothered by it or anything.

"Hi!", he would greet the badger with a bright smile. Summer would be there soon which was kind of good news because Alan was ready to leave Hogwarts behind for a little while with all its current dangers. He would rather spend the time at camp with some of his friends and no danger that was threatening them. "Would you mind watching over him so th-that he cannot bother anyone during the race?" he would ask his friend and with a soft smile he would hand over the feline who would find a comfy spot in Willow's embrace.

Now that this was out of the way he would get into position next to a girl that seemed vaguely familiar but he could not quite know her and another one that he must have seen at least once before; again he had no clue who it was sadly but they both appeared to be his age. Once Willow were to announce the start of the game Alan would spin around five times, trying to keep his gaze locked onto one point so he would not get dizzy and tried to balance the egg he was carrying on a spoon as he would attempt to advance closer to the goal.

Mentioning @Amadea Campbell.
The blonde only decided to join in on the group activity because she felt like she was drowning herself in school work after being away for a while. Something fun would take her mind off of the stress of nearly failing Potions. Even as a third year, she barely scrapped by making something as simple as a common potion antidote. At least no one she knew of had been poisoned, she wouldn't be able to help them if so. No, fire was what normally ended up wreaking havoc on the school. With a sigh, she tried to relax and enjoy the game. No more thinking.

Getting out of her own head was difficult but observing everyone around her seemed to help. Dymphna could easily spot the fiery haired Hufflepuff who was likely her newest friend [Amadea]. Some of the others were recognizable to her but quite a few must've been younger. She knew and interacted with a few first and second years but not many, especially now that Ruthie was away at Beauxbâtons. It was also hard to know who to trust. She was torn between wanting to be friendly and helpful, but if Hogwarts continued to be dangerous, would her fellow students be the ones to cause it? Or would they need saving, as she had at the Masquerade Ball? These days it was much easier to stick with those who she knew to be trustworthy, reliable and proactive in a crisis.

Be silly, you won't have much longer to be a kid, Dymphna thought to herself. In her earlier days at Hogwarts, she wanted to grow up too fast. These days, she wished for the simpler times. Her only normalcy was within her studies with Reid, hanging out with Phaedra or practicing Quidditch with her teammates. She tried to keep busy but not enough to be overwhelmed, or she might've applied for the newspaper again. As soon as she heard go, she was pulled from her thoughts and quickly spun around with her forehead on the stick. Hopefully her egg would make it.

Pre-Summer Egg Race! Finished
With the school year finally coming to a close, Søren was excited to have some fun. The summer trip was only a few days away and it was a miracle that his parents were open to letting him attend. He was already prepared to suffer through the next two months, so he thought of the egg race as a perfect way to end his time at Hogwarts. When he got the letter that confirmed he would be able to spend half the summer with his mates, the boy was beyond enthusiastic. He had half a mind to pull out of the race seeing as he no longer needed to end his year with a bang, but commitments were commitments and he was not against having some extra fun.

Until he saw the giant redhead launching herself at him.

He recognized the first years in the circle from his classes but had never held a conversation with any of them. The same could be said for the third years, especially the two flanking him. He didn’t anticipate many older students taking part, so he wasn’t that worried before entering the courtyard. However, the girl to his right was a bit too distracting, a Veela, perhaps, and the girl on his left had a good six inches on him and looked like she could take him out with one right hook to the jaw. Shivering at the thought, he gave both of them a smile before taking his spin along with the rest of the contestants.

After the five seconds, his world became woozy, signals going off in his brain telling him to take a seat until he was steady. Before he could choose to listen or ignore his basic instinct, a flash of red to his left caught his attention, as well as a loud scream calling him... loser? Oh fu-

All worries of dizziness aside, Søren focused his eyes to the middle of the ring and marched forward, hoping the lumbering girl would miss him.

Mars had absolutely no idea why they'd signed up to do this. Maybe they'd just been in a good mood the day they'd run across the poster, bright and cheery amongst what seemed to be a year of doom and general chaos. Maybe it was the knowledge that it was Willow who set this up, and something inside them wanted to see that infectious smile again.

Whatever the case, Mars stood amongst the other contestants, listening quietly as the Hufflepuff outlined the rules. At a glance, they surveyed the other wixes gathered around the collection of eggs and spoons. There was—absolutely no one they knew there. Okay, well that was a lie, they recognized Alan, cat firmly attached to his hip, and May. But everyone else? Not a clue. Maybe most of them were second or third years.

A hot pang of surprise went through Mars' chest. They couldn't believe that the year was already over. It was strange to think that in the span of ten months, they'd gone from absolutely despising the idea of being here to almost sad to leave. That uneasiness was quelled by the reassurance that they be back again next year—probably. If the school didn't close. At any rate, in a matter of a few days they'd no longer be a first year. Excitement thrummed through their veins at the very thought, though they kept it low and muted. Best not to let the competition get any sort of read on them right off the bat.

But for now, to focus on the task at hand. It seemed simple enough—they'd heard of these kinds of races before, but it had always seemed to stupid to really give it a go. Apparently, Hogwarts was opening them up to all forms of dumb ideas now. Ok, spin around five times, take the spoon with the egg on it, and somehow walk to the middle without falling on their face. Sure, that didn't seem hard. Hell, they dealt with exploding spells and death-defying heights on a daily basis. What was a little bit of dizziness?

With the image of carrying spoons with eggs while flying dizzy on a broom stuck fast in their mind, Mars made their way over to the starting line. A stick laid in the dirt, one that they plucked up with nimble fingers, resting the point on the ground. They watched as the rest of the contestants did the same—one of the girl's had a wicked fire in her eyes, the rest looking maybe a little apprehensive. Mars felt a mixture of both, the perfectionist in them translating over to a competitive nature but the rational side of their brain telling them that this was a really dumb thing to get excited over. Still, they couldn't curb an excited grin as the signal to start was given.

Touching their nose to the stick, they spun five times, trying to go as fast as possible while keeping their eyes tightly shut. Dizziness was a result of the inner ear fluid continuing to slosh around when motion was stopped, so they couldn't do much about that, but at least the ballet practices Estella had forced them into taking when they were young had taught them that fast motions that took in as little of the surrounding scenes helped immensely. Who knew that crap would actually come in handy someday?

They tilted to a stop, scooping up the spoon in their right hand. With careful steps, Mars tried their best to advance without letting their blurry vision rattle the egg.

The end of the school year was approaching, but that didn't stop Ariana from continuing to join various activities before the school came to a close. One in particular that had caught her attention, was the pre-summer egg race that a familiar Hufflepuff acquaintance, Willow Anderson, was hosting. It seemed simple enough to participate in, yet fun and anticipating, Ariana couldn't help but feel excited.

The weather was particularly lovely today, fluffy clouds adorned the sky along with the rays of sun that poked out from behind them, showering the Hogwarts grounds in blissful warmth. Grass-stained sneakers made their way to the courtyard, the young beaters hands fiddling with a hair tie as she struggled to capture her dark waves into a ponytail.

As she arrived, she recognised a few familiar faces who also seemed to have thought the event was a good idea. Ariana called out to Willow, waving at the girl as she did so. “Hey Willow! Great idea, I'm glad you came up with this!” A genuine smile followed this statement before her concentration shifted to the girls directions, regarding the rules and regulations for the activity.

In no time she was taking her spin, desperately trying to keep her focus steady as she did so, in the hope that that would leave her with an advantage. The spins left her slightly dizzy and she blinked in an attempt to pinpoint her next movement. A hand reached to balance her egg on her spoon and she planted her feet to the ground, steadying her small figure.

She was ready to advance towards her goal.

The end of school was coming, and May had already packed her affairs. She was exited, but slightly troubled, like probably every student of what would happen there, at the London Quiddich Stadium and the Quiddich Match. But it wasn't the time to worry. There were plenty of students organizing Pre-summer activities, like the Scavenger Hunt and the Summer Egg Race. So she decided to go and play and have fun.

She entered and saw Ariana Walker, a friend of hers, and waved at her with a big smile on her face. Then, she spotted Alan Vanes, Mars, a few people she didn't know, and at last, Willow. "Hey Willow! Good idea, this egg race became popular don't you think?" she smiled and went to pick up her egg and of course, the stick.

She spun around three times, like Willow said. And now, she was advancing forward...

She felt slightly dizzy, but she didn't fall. She kept her balance and walked slowly but steadily forward. She walked a bit faster, but carefully. What if the egg- fell?

She had the urge of looking back at Alan's cat, Tiger, was big, but she kept looking forward, determined to win the race. She would win it even if it was....well, nothing.

Interacting with Everyone
As people started to arrive, Willow's heart felt lighter and lighter. Truthfully, even though people had signed up, Willow was mildly nervous that everyone would ditch out at the last second and her event would be a failure. She silently chastised herself for doubting her friends and fellow students of Hogwarts.

An older Hufflepuff was the first to arrive, a familiar face and name of Amadea. Her bright grin somehow grew bigger in the presence of the third year. "Amadea! I'm glad you could make it, it's my pleasure! Good luck!" As Amadea walked off, another older Hufflepuff showed up. She vaguely remembered Ami as someone that tried to help her during the Great Hufflepuff Fire of 2020. She was someone that Willow wanted to get to know better, and someone that was starting to write owls to which made her feel lovely, as if she had a mentor in a way. Willow passed a small wave her way before her favorite Gryffindor arrived.

With a cat!

She didn't know Alan had a cat! Willow would drop the entire egg race to be able to pet that cat, but it didn't seem like she had to. Alan approached her with the great duty of catsitting during the race to make sure he stayed out of trouble. Her arms quickly and gently moved to hold the cat cozily in her arms. Her eyes were alighted with joy. The nature lover had always wanted a pet of her own, but her parents never conceded. Alan might be seeing more of Willow, especially with this cutie around. Alan had already started to walk away before Willow tried to call out after him. "W-Wait! What's his name?" Hopefully he would respond, but if not she would shrug and scratch the newfound friend's head.

Dymphna, Søren, and her snake friend from fall were the next to show up and quickly get into position. She wasn't upset about the lack of greeting, especially since she was preoccupied with quietly explaining what eggs were to the kitty, just in case he didn't know what was about to happen. She wanted him to be fully informed so he could enjoy the game too! Her attention was pulled when Ariana approached her next. "Thank you! It's one of my favorite muggle games, I hope you enjoy it!" Before she could explain much more of the game, the last but certainly not least Hufflepuff arrived. "May! Hiya!" She paused and nodded. "Yeah, I'm surprised honestly. But we'll have a lot of fun with more people!"

With everyone in position, a content cat now wrapped around her shoulders, and a vigor for competition they were off and Willow cheered everyone on. Although, flinching back when Ami quickly shoulder checked the person next to her when they hadn't even been able to start.
The Mod
They were off! All looking quite silly with their foreheads to sticks spinning around with their butts in the air. This was a brilliant game of muggle silliness.

Ami, even though she was quite dizzy, somehow had enough direction skills to yell and attack Søren. He didn't even have a chance to walk forward! Ami was some vicious competition to look out for. Sadly, even though he came out of the spinning relatively balanced the sudden attack threw him off and he dropped his egg! What a crime for an egg to be lost so soon, and so young. Hopefully he would have better luck as he returned to the beginning to spin. Maybe already doing the spin for a first time left him with the skill to come out of it a second time relatively ok.

Dymphna and Alan were also two people to conquer the spin! Being able to advance relatively easier. Dymphna was able to get further than Alan though as he was stuck moving a bit slower than his competition. He was so tall! His long legs better get to moving if he wanted to win!

May, Mars, and Amadea (so close to a triple M situation) came out of the spin a bit more wobbly on their feet. But, they were still able to start moving forward whether or not that seemed like a straight line due to their current misaligned state of direction. Both May and Mars were able to keep pace with Dymphna as they advanced towards the final bowl! Amadea however seemed to struggle more with the dizziness and only made it a few steps forward.

Ariana seemed to be in the worst shape, on par with Ami exiting the spin but that wouldn't stop this bold Gryffindor! She proceeded forward with a mighty amount of skill even with her disadvantage and caught up with Dymphna, May, and Mars!

The game is off to an exciting start! Will people start to follow in Ami's footsteps and attempt to sabotage their competition? Will someone attempt to steady themselves in order to maintain a better balance? Or will they attempt to stride forward confident towards a win? Only time will tell!
