OOC notes: I'm curious to discover what unique things we can find in the nooks and crannies of Hogwarts. Feel free to come up with something silly, magical, mundane, or otherwise! How many things can we find?

Aster was headed back from her afternoon Herbology lesson when she suddenly stopped in front of a short hallway. It appeared to lead to a crooked portrait of a man standing on his head. The man's squinty eyes peered back at her from a round face that reminded her of a tomato.

Beneath the painting was a small inscription:
Oswald the Inverted, known for his love of all things opposite. He discovered one day that standing on his head made everything opposite, then spent most the rest of his life upside down.
Aster blinked at the man, who seemed to be balancing exquisitely. Instead of a hat, he wore a large boot on his head, which was firmly planted on a flat rock. His round body stood straight as an arrow, pointed at the sky, while the grass swirled around him. On his feet were two knitted hats; the right hat was red with purple stars, and the left was vomit green with a strange pink pattern of dots and swirls.

As she watched, a crow landed on the ground next to the man, who chortled in delight at seeing the bird upside down. Suddenly, he appeared to notice Aster.

"A terrible evening to you! What a disastrous delight! This crow hops upside down. It's opposite day, you see!"

"Good morning to you as well." Aster smiled politely, then backed slowly away towards the main corridor. What an odd painting!

She continued her journey, but before she had arrived at the library, she bumped into someone. They were leaning into a dusty cabinet, peering at something in its depths.

Hogwarts was a very interesting place. It has centuries of history, with secrets and mysteries tucked in every corner. Every classroom, painting, and wall tell a different story, full of memories of the years gone by. If one was to spend a day just wandering, observing, listening and looking, one can find more things than they would have ever known.

Bella Light was doing just that. Actually, she was being Bella -- the girl who just enjoys wandering around Hogwarts and seeing what it has to offer. She still wasn't used to how BIG the school was -- her home wasn't small at all but compared to Hogwarts, it was like comparing a mouse to a grown tree.

She was heading her way to the library after realizing that it had a "restricted section." Bella wasn't planning to sneak in (she wouldn't do that, right..?) but instead, she just wanted to ask when she could possibly get access to it, and how. Besides, even there were so many BOOKS that she hadn't read, and she couldn't wait to just explore it.

But as Bella was walking down the hallways, she stopped short in front of a cabinet. It was dusty, very old, but it contained something really interesting. It contained...a box. It was a box, with a lock on it. Bella could see the swirling calligraphy painted on the box that said, "Arca Aurorae" Aurora's Box in Latin. Beneath it was a note that seemed a lot more recent that said, "MISSING KEY. Confirmed still in Hogwarts but separated from the box when found."

Bella was so intrigued by this that she didn't notice another girl, wearing Ravenclaw robes, walking over.

"Oh, hey Aster!" Bella looked up when she heard the footsteps, grinning. She recognized the girl from classes, but also from one meeting in the Apothecary shop in Diagon Alley before school had started. "Have you seen this interesting box yet?"

OOC Notes: Hope it was okay that I joined, Aster! It was so fun writing this RP!

Aster saw Bella, the Slytherin girl from the Apothecary peeking into a cabinet ahead of her. She had never really noticed the cabinet before; it was so old that it seemed to melt into the walls themselves, as if it had always been there. A carved willow tree peeked out at her from under the many layers of dust on the door.

As Aster approached, Bella looked up and greeted her. Aster smiled back. "Hi, Bella! It's good to see you."

She peeked at the box. "I've never seen anything like it. I wonder what's inside. I've never heard of "Arca Aurorae" before. Have you?" It sounded like Latin, but Aurorae could be the name of the box's owner, a reference to a legend, or a mysterious description of the purpose of the box.

She wondered if the key had been hidden intentionally, or simply lost. Perhaps the box held a treasure, or a secret, or the instructions for a long-forgotten spell or potion! How could they find the key, though? She picked up the note and turned it over, then nearly dropped it. On the back of the note was a strange symbol:

A square of parchment with a symbol in the bottom left corner. The symbol has two sections separated by a line: the top left is a quill writing something that disappears, and the bottom right is a wand and the same text, but fully revealed

Aster blinked at the symbol for a moment, then showed it to Bella. "What do you think of this? Maybe it's a clue about where the key is hidden, but I can't think of what it might mean." Aster may be a Ravenclaw, but solving riddles was not her strongest skill. Embarrassinly, the eagle knocker outside her common room door had already stumped her more than once, leaving her to wait for a cleverer Ravenclaw to open the door. However, curiosity was bubbling up. She desperately wanted to find the key and discover what was in the box.

She scanned the box again, but didn't immediately see anything that might be useful. It did have some interesting engravings... but none of them meant anything to her.

A thrill ran through her as she stared again at the symbol on the parchment. She was solving a mystery in Hogwarts!

OOC notes: Thank you for joining, @Bella Light! I'm looking forward to solving a mystery with you!

Bella glanced at Aster, "No, I have no clue what it means. Maybe something about the box? Like its name?"

As Aster flipped the note over and showed Bella the symbol, Bella frowned.

"I have never seen that before, Aster, but I think I may know where we can find that. Hmm...do you want to go to the library? There, we can ask the librarian and maybe do some research!" Bella asked.

As Aster and Bella walked towards the library, Bella asked Aster a couple of questions.

"Do you enjoy solving puzzles? Mysteries? I found that Hogwarts has lots of secrets and memories hidden in the corners, like that one!" Bella pointed to the note in Aster's hand. "And...I'm fairly sure we weren't supposed to take the note out, but hehe! I'm sure no one noticed! If they did, we can just say we were trying to solve the mystery and give the note back!"

As they entered the library, Bella took a deep breath and turned to look at her new friend.

"Do you want to ask the librarian first? Or try to figure out it out by ourselves first? Both works for me!" Bella exclaimed excitedly.

OOC Notes: Ooh, this is so fun! Should we move this thread to the library (AKA start a new one) or just keep it here in the corridors?
