| xxxxx | Kahira honestly should have just ignored the boy who clearly didn't have enough manners to sip a goblet of water instead of clearing his throat in such a boorish manner around a lady, and unfortunately, now that she had actually acknowledged him, he seemed to think that had been an invite to strike up a conversation with the young redhead. She sighed, eyes still glued to the match, which had just properly kicked off in front of them. Of course, he did have some semblance of etiquette, though horribly misplaced - ma'am was quite obviously for women at least thrice her age, not for a young girl such as herself. There was no accent when he spoke, so obviously an incoming Hogwarts student such as herself, or at least thusly she assumed; hopefully, with any luck, she wouldn't be seeing him around the Slytherin commons come the first September. Kahira pursed her lips, still not glancing in his direction. "I shan't know why you would be here if not to be invested in the game," she muttered out of the corner of her mouth. "Or was it simply to make moody comments and brood about?" The words had hardly left her glossed lips when the action began to truly kick in, emphasis on the word kick; one of the Keepers' feet collided heavily with the Quaffle, sending it directly into an opposing Chaser, who was knocked headlong from her broom. Kahira gasped, the corners of her mouth already curling up at the sudden display of violence, even if there hadn't been any scores yet to speak of - but her true attention was upon the Beaters, the role she so desperately wished to play one day clad in emerald and silver. A redheaded Seeker found herself backbeated wildly hard by - "Is that the @Arjan Oberoi?!" - but then the famed dark-haired athlete, whose posters Kahira definitely didn't have up on her wall or anything, ended up toppling from his broom via a well-placed Bludger from the other team. Luckily, he was saved. The young girl whooped, unable to stop herself, despite the unladylike demeanour of it all. Yes, this was what Quidditch was all about! |

✰ As the two soon-to-be-first years answered her questions Diana listened. Neither of them had actually played Quidditch before (like her) although both seemed interested in trying it once they started Hogwarts (somewhat like her as she's almost in her second year). Those answers made sense to Diana. She had never played either and had mostly learned about the sport through books and conversations. Watching the match was making her already realize that there were some things that were much easier to understand when actually seeing it happen — which is a lot like magic, if you don't see how the professor demonstrates the spell, it won't be easy for you when you practice on your own. "I haven't played either," Diana admitted. "I've only really read about Quidditch. That's why I wanted to watch a match before deciding whether I actually wanted to join."
When Penelope mentioned watching an International Quidditch match with her family Diana glanced at her. "That must have been interesting. I've never seen an International match in person." The only match she's seen is this one and the occasional Ravenclaw match's when she would be wandering around the grounds on days when she had nothing to do.
As Aaron explained that he hadn't played yet either and was thinking about Quidditch or Broom Racing Diana returned her attention to him and she gave him a small nod. "I think Broom Racing sounds interesting too. I haven't seen a match yet, though. I want to watch one before I decide." She paused. "And I understand about Dueling. I'm interested in it, but I don't know if I'd want to join immediately either."
When Aaron asked about Hogwarts Diana became a little more thoughtful. She had been there for a whole year now but remembering her first few weeks still felt fairly easy. "The teachers are different, but I think most of them are pretty good. You'll probably have some lessons you like more than others." She paused briefly before continuing. "I think the biggest thing is not worrying about already knowing everything. There are a lot of things you'll learn once you're there." Before continuing Diana looked toward the pitch for a moment. "And the castle is confusing at first. It's really big and there are lots of corridors. I got lost a few times when I first started." A tiny smile appeared. "So I'd give yourself time to get used to everything. And make sure you know where your classrooms are before lessons start."
She was about to add something else when a sudden reaction from the crowd drew her attention back toward the pitch and Penelope's voice followed. "Did you see that?" "Yes!" Diana slightly leaned forward with her eyes fixed on the players. She had been paying close attention before but the match had suddenly become much harder to follow. One of the Chasers had been knocked off her broom, another player had been hit by the Quaffle, and now one of the Seekers had been taken out by a Bludger. Diana's eyes then moved toward the remaining Seeker. "That happened really quickly." She watched Arkady continue after the snitch and was trying to keep track of his movements. "I didn't realize the Seekers had to worry about the Bludgers that much." Her expression became thoughtful. "I knew they had to watch everything around them, but seeing it happen is different." For a moment she considered the fact that she had just said she wanted to be a Seeker. She still thought the position sounded interesting. If anything seeing how much attention the position required made her more curious about it.
Then she noticed something else. "Wait." Diana looked toward the hoops and then back at the rest of the pitch. "Is it still 0–0?" She genuinely looked surprised. "There's been so much happening and nobody has scored yet." She glanced between Aaron and Penelope before looking back toward the pitch. Another player was now being helped after falling from their broom while someone else had been sent off for a penalty lap. "There's a lot more to pay attention to than I thought."
For a moment Diana fell quiet and carefully watched as the match continued. She was beginning to understand why people could become so interested in Quidditch. It wasn't just about the Quaffle or Snitch. There were several things happening at once and missing even a few seconds could mean missing something important. She took another sip of her drink. "I think I'm going to need to watch a few more matches before I make my decision." As she looked toward the pitch again a small smile appeared. "But I'm still leaning toward Seeker." ✰
