Owls and Ice
Cole trudged up the twisting stairs, letter in hand the green ink smudged slightly under his thumb. He had written only to his parents and not yet to his brother Sean, who by now would have realized he was not placed in Gryffindor - he sighed.Once inhaling he felt the icy breeze which hung in the air stung the back of his throat he coughed momentarily in response as he quickened his ascent into the Owlery.
As he approached the Owlery he heard the faint hoots of Barn owls and a couple of frustrated shrieks from a pair of Screech Owls, he began searching for a school owl who seemed to have separate perches from the rest, unfortunately he was yet to have an Owl of his own, but once he had the money he would most definitely make the purchase as they seemed rather useful as both messengers and company - as he thought this is blushed, he hadn't actually made any friends since he had first arrived at Hogwarts - pushing this thought aside he reached his hand that held his letter up to one of the Owls on the school perch, they ruffled their brown feathers and snapped at the air in response, dangerously close to his fingers. Cole began the search for another owl.

Owls and Ice
Margaret chances a small brown barn owl around the owlery. This small owl had been trying to escape from her grasp but she needed it to deliver a letter home to her oldest brother (who was a squib and her only sibling not currently at Hogwarts) and her parents. She couldn't tell most of the owls apart, she could not tell which were school owls and which were owned by a student, but she knew this one was a school owl because she had seen other students use it. If she knew which owls were school owls and which ones were not she may ha just tried to use a different owl but since she didn't this small, annoying, barn owl was her only option.
She had been chasing this owl for about 20 minutes and wasn't one to give up ut at this point she wasn't looking where she was going or paying attention to her surroundings which was probably the reason why she eventually hit something and fell to the floor with pain shooting through her right side. When she realized what had happened and she was no longer falling she looked up to see a shocked boy standing above her. She had then realized she had bumped into him while chasing that annoyingly resistant bird. her face turned red as she got up, she could feel her cheeks burning of embarrassment, her eyes wider than golf balls "I'm sorry" she said very apologetically. She was so embarrassed that her throat clenched up as soon as the words came out and her face was redder than a raspberry.

'I'm fine - are you ok' the warmth in his voice was surprising as it contrasted their surroundings. He had notice her wince slightly as she fell , he hoped she wasn't hurt.
Cole had noticed her chasing an owl around the Owlery - he hadn't the best of luck with the school owls either. His eyes focused more clearly after being knocked slightly the girl that stood before him had curly red hair similar to that of fire and blue-green eyes like the lamps in his common room she had gone slightly red 'Aren't you cold' Cole asked furrowing his brows slightly as he asked the question as she seemed to be shivering slightly. The breeze that had initially chilled him on the way to the Owlery was now attacking the both of them , Cole's green and silver scarf was protecting him from the cold but the girl didn't seemed to be dressed for such a cold morning, Cole couldn't help but be friendly although this wasn't his usually disposition he seemed to have changed since arriving at Hogwarts and he didn't really like it. He put his hands to his neck and began to unravel the scarf as soon as he did this though the wind attacked his skin like a rabid dog causing a slight shiver but he didn't want to make the girl aware of it so we covered it up with several hand movements, he had finally removed his scarf and offered it to her ,gently, on an outstretched hand - 'I'm Cole Thomas, what's your name' he said softly but loud enough to be heard over the wind.

"I'm Margaret," she says smiling and relieved by the sudden kindness. She shakes her head at the offer of the scarf "thank you, but if I take it we'll both be cold." Cole seemed nice and she had already dumped into him, it would be extremely rude for her to also take his scarf. She had gotten used to the cold, where she lived it was usually very cold and she had to make the deliveries for her family's restaurant, so walking in the cold wasn't new to her.
"Is there a way to tell the difference between a school owl and an owl owned by a student. I've been chasing that one for a while because it's the only owl I know is a school owl. I wonder if they have some sort of mark that distinguishes them." Margaret asked, feeling pretty stupid at this point. "I've considered just using any owl and hoping it was a school owl or just hoping the owner won't notice."
She hoped that she would be able to be out of the owlery in no time but that annoying barn owl didn't seem to want to let her tie a letter to his leg. It seemed to make sense, he was probably tired but she didn't know what else to do. It was getting colder by the minute it seemed, but that was okay she didn't mind the cold, but she couldn't help but feel bad for Cole, who was clearly as cold as she was and she was stopping him from going back inside where it was warm.

Cole's cheeks were stone cold and he nodded as she politely declined his scarf, his fingers were quite numb and trembling so he gave up on wrapping the scarf around his neck.
'Hey Margaret' he said ' The owls on that side belong to the school, he gestured to the left side of the owlery's perches which contained a variety of Owls but none were particularly exceptional comprised of Barn owls, tawny owl , a couple of screech owls and he could see a lone Eagle Owl he once again gestured but this time to the right as he showed off the multitude of Owls for example there was a couple Morepork owls , Artic , Snowy and Horned were just a few.
He heard her story of the owl she couldn't catch and resided to find her one himself, he approached the Eagle Owl and spoke to them softly 'I've got a letter for you' the Owl suddenly became more attentive, alert and hooted just as softly as Cole's voice as he hopped onto Cole's arm which was shaking slightly in the cold. The owl ruffled his feathers at the constant movement of the hand so Cole repressed the shakes until the Eagle Owl was content and approached Margaret, the Owl locked onto the letter and flew next to the owner. Cole chuckled as he too approached Margaret once again attempting to tie his scarf around his numb neck with ice block fingers.

Margaret Smiles, gratefully at Cole "thank you" she says. She then takes the edges of the scarf and wraps it around coles next and hands him a pair of gloves that she pulls out of her pocket. She usually walked around with a couple of hand warms, in case anyone needed them but they were usually kept in her bag and she didn't have it with her. It just happened to be a coincidence that she had brought an extra pair of war, lime green gloves. She had just remembered t bring them just in case and it was just lucky that she was right to bring them.
Margaret tied the letter around the owl's leg and whispered the address to the owl before pushing him up with her hands so he could take flight. The owl dropped a little before opening its wings and soaring off into the distance. She watched it as it got smaller and eventually disappeared, fallowing cole's owl off past the mountains in the far distance.
She turned back to look at Cole, she could see how cold he was. "It might be warmer inside. I can get you some hand warmers or I could light a fire out here, for warmth." Margaret offered.

Cole agreed to the fire and as soon as he slipped on the lime green gloves his hands exploded with warmth. He smiled thankfully at Margaret. He heard Margaret whisper to the owl in a soft voice like he had done to them before attaching the letter onto it's leg gently, the majestic bird hooted it's approval
taking flight - soaring from the Owlery and gliding silently on the morning air.
Cole began to relax a little the warmth from the fire was comforting but also made him a little light-headed.He sat down in front of the fire copying Margaret and rested his head on his arm and closed his eyes to shield them from the heat of the flames as he began to drift of slightly memories began to flash into his head, he could see someone 'No , no ,no' he murmured his face flashing across Cole's mind repeatedly until he threw his hands up to his face in anguish he saw a bright green light and then he exhaled quickly the air turning white in front of him as a result of his warmth breath against the cold. He stood up and backed away from the fire and the girl breathing heavily.

Margaret's at first froze in shock and surprise but she quickly became afraid and worried about what may have happened. "Cole" Margaret said worriedly "are you alright?" What's wrong? What happened?" She suddenly regretted her bombardment of questions. She didn't want to overwhelm him with questions so she was silent.
She walked over to him, looking at the place he sat wondering if something had burned him or if a small animal may have bit him. There was nothing there. She became concerned that he might not be heart physically but that maybe it was the aftereffect of something or someone had cursed him. She worried that he might have to go to the hospital wing but she hoped it was nothing too serious.
She tried to see if anyone else was around or if there were any signs of something serious that may have injured him. She wanted to ask if he was hurt but she didn't want to trouble him with more questions so she just waited to hear if he was okay or not and wondered what might have happened to make him suddenly jump up like that. She hoped it was something mental (like shock or remembering something he had to do or a bad memory), although that would have been bad she would be more capable of fixing it than if it was a charm or curse or perhaps a bad potion.

Cole began tried to get a grip as the memories had disappeared as quickly as they had arrived. He ran a trembling hand through him hair , this time the hand was trembling through fear not the cold , manically he began to stomp out the fire thrusting his foot down hard and fast, he didn't know why but an overwhelming feeling of grief had washing over him, subsequently a couple of tears rolled down his pale face.Cole was standing up- he rested his head against an ice cold pillar before speaking to Margaret.
The girl began walking towards him scanning the area for something that may have caused the bombardment of memories but she came up with nothing. 'I'm fine now' Cole said forcing a smile as he unsteadily walking closer to Margaret. He massaged his hands with the gloves Margaret had given him so that life would return to them, but it was no use. He exhaled and watched an audience of eyes stare upon him there were hoots and screeches but all seemed rather far away as his head was still spinning from emotion. He across at Margaret ,who was very close, through glazed eyes as tears were filling them, furious, he wiped them from his face as they fell. The grief was gone, everything was gone, he felt nothing.

Margaret wasn't sure if he was actually fine but he said he was and now he seemed okay. Now she could hear yelling in the distance, as well. she didn't know why they were yelling but she wondered if it even mattered.
Margaret still wasn't sure if he was okay or not but she thought it might help just to move on and get whatever happened of his mind. Should we go see what they are hooting about? It probably wouldn't make a difference whether they knew or not. They were probably just having fun or some people were just competing and people were cheering them on or maybe someone got in a fight and people. I guess that would be fun to watch even if it doesn't make a difference whether we see it or not.
"Um, do you want to see what's going on," asked Margaret, sort of quietly not sure what he might say or if he even cared what was happening.
She looked in the direction of the yelling to see if she could see anything in that direction. She couldn't see anything through the trees but she was certain that they weren't too far away.
