The ride to Hogwarts

Hearing Aaron say he hoped to get into Ravenclaw, Kai nodded ‘Maybe Ravenclaw for me as well, or Slytherin but I don’t really have a preference.” In reality Kai was unsure if he would be ok with Hufflepuff since he was still unsure if his dad was joking or not when he had once said not Hufflepuff. But Kai only knew a little bit about the houses overall anyways and it seemed inappropriate to say not Hufflepuff out loud.

Kai then heard Ōkami mumble something he didn’t understand, it sounded eastern maybe Japanese? After hearing Ōkami mention Mahoutokoro that confirmed that it likely was Japanese. Kai didn’t know much about other wizarding schools around the world but he remembered briefly reading about some of them in passing and the name Mahoutokoro sounded familiar to him. He supposed it was good that there would be other students who also were coming into first year not knowing everything about Hogwarts like him.

Before Kai could respond he saw Ōkami's scar open and start bleeding he hadn't really got a clear look at it until now but could see it clearly pulsing. Kai blinked looking at the scar reacting a bit slowly as Ōkami asked for help. ‘“Uh right, of course” Kai said as he got up and hesitantly went through her bag. Kai rummaged through the bag, did she say staples Kai thought as he eventually found what looked like disinfectant and then staples. Kai took them out of the bag and handed them to her.

Blood.

The discussion about houses was going ok-ish before that. It seemed like Kai didn't have much of a prefernce, and Ōkami wasn't expecting to come to Hogwarts.

Mahoutokoro. Interesting. That was her main choice, but fate had sent her to Hogwarts.

He believed he heard her say something in Japanese, which indicated that Mahoutokoro accepted Japanese students mainly. This was why he liked the UK, it gave people a lot of opportunities to meet with people with different cultures, backgrounds, stories, and lifestyles.

Kai was open, but had a strong inclination towards Ravenclaw or Slytherin maybe. At least that's what Aaron felt, he could be wrong.

It was at this moment he saw the red liquid. Aaron wasn't afraid of it, but it scared him a lot, since blood resulted in blood loss which resulted in not enough blood in the body, which meant death. And who wasn't afraid of death? That was what many dark wizards were after and that was what made them dark in the first place.

It was strange that while Ōkami was asking for a disinfectant, she had also asked for staples. Was she going to staple the scar? No, that needs sewing. Maybe they were magical staples used for werewolf wounds like hers.

He then realised he was just sitting there not helping Kai, who was frantically searching for the two things. He jumped to his feet and helped Kai search the bag while ensuring they didn't miss it from earlier. After searching it for a while, they finally found the two things and were able to hand it to Ōkami, who then used it to treat her wound.

Kai returned to his seat and looked at Ōkami who treated her wound then went quiet. Kai was not exactly sure what had happened or what was the cause of both the scar and it bleeding. But Kai had long learned to not question all the things he’d been seeing and learning about the wizarding world. This was not exactly the start of his journey to Hogwarts that Kai had imagined but he couldn’t deny that it was not boring. Kai hoped Ōkami was ok, but she didn’t seem to really want to talk about it which Kai understood and was fine with, he was definitely not one to push especially with someone he’d known for well less than 10 minutes basically.

As Ōkami recovered the compartment once again fell into an awkward silence. Kai decided to break the silence again, twice in one day, quite rare for him perhaps learning he was indeed a wizard was changing him. Kai turned back to Aaron and asked, “So uh, are your parents wizards, or do you have any siblings?” Aaron seemed to at least know about the different Hogwarts houses, so Kai assumed either he had some wizarding heritage or had done some reading before Hogwarts, either was possible.

Silence.

That was what was followed as they were helping Okami with her bleeding. The scar was a werewolf after effect, so it might have had special, undesirable properties. Something to maybe look forward to learning from their DADA professor or Okami later on down the line.

As Okami was recovering, it didn't feel like anyone wanted to say or do something much and just wanted to help if needed. But even after the bleeding stopped and all signs of blood on her face was gone, the silence persisted and it became a bit awkward. The only noise was either coming from the neighboring compartments or the train and the surroundings.

The first sound from inside the compartment was surprisingly not from the young werewolf, but from the other boy in the compartment with them. Kai had asked him about his family.

"My mom's an Auror at the Ministry of Magic and dad is a muggle. I'm an only child for the time being, but it doesn't seem like I'll be getting a sibling soon either. What about you? What are you most interested in learning at Hogwarts? I want to learn many offensive and defensive spells to fight the dark wizards looming around the wizarding world."

Aaron replied.

As he waited for a reply, he looked outside. It was beginning to go dark now. They might be reaching Hogwarts soon. The lights inside the carriage also began to glow brighter, as if they could sense the darkness enveloping their surroundings.

Kai listened as Aaron answered, it sounded like Aaron’s background was a bit similar to Kai’s own. Kai nodded replying “I’m also an only child and both my parents are wizards, but I went to a muggle school until I got my Hogwarts letter. Only got a bit of magic exposure before then from seeing what my parents did.”

Glancing out the window as well and seeing the sky get darker, Kai thought about Aaron’s question on what he was most interested in learning. Kai had to agree with Aaron “There’s so much that seems interesting to learn, but I also think learning offensive and defensive spells sounds fun and useful as well. Although I didn’t really think about the dark wizard aspect until you mentioned it,” Kai paused thinking about the other classes he had briefly read and heard about. “I think charms and transfiguration sound cool too” All the more practical courses interested Kai. “Oh, Flying also sounds fun to learn, although also a bit scary.” Kai remembered reading about flying, surely every kid dreamed about flying at least once. Unfortunately for Kai he was not the biggest fan of heights.

Thinking about Aaron mentioning dark wizards, as well as his father being an auror, Kai wondered what that was like. “Having an auror for a father is cool, does he talk about his work much?” Kai asked.
