Whoops! I shouldn't have told you that!

It was quite an unusual thing for Ariana to be making her way to the study room late in the evening, even more so for her to be solo in her wake. Yet the girl seemed unbothered by such things and as she reached the entrance and strolled in, it was with a somewhat peaceful tranquility of mind. She would of course be attempting her homework [which of course wasn’t the positive matter] but she would have help from Fred this time- one of her close friends, so that was an advantage. He was relatively smart, but it wasn’t just this that was a benefit, for Ariana was intelligent herself, and would probably be more successful if she only had the patience. Fred however, had the ability to stay patient and calm perpetually and Ariana admired him for that- even if sometimes his lack of retaliation irritated her a bit.
But that wasn’t what made the girl so excited, for usually she would be full of resentment at the sight of such a huge pile of assignments. No. It was because after her encounter with Janet earlier on, the girl had admitted to who she had a crush on a hogwarts. Now Ariana usually wasn’t one to childishly giggle and laugh at such a thing, but she supposed that it was the fact that Fred was the mere victim of Janet’s secret, that had resulted in Ariana collapsing [Much to Janets annoyance] into giggles.
It wasn't the fact that he was a poor choice, no not at all, in fact maybe Ariana shouldn't have been surprised. Although, until now, Janet had always insisted to Fred that the two of them were merely friends, Ariana found it amusing that she in fact felt completely different from what she apparently let on. This was going to be interesting.
Of course Ariana had sworn not to tell a soul, and the girl was admittedly brilliant at keeping secrets, it was something she prided herself on. However, this time round seemed different, she couldn’t put it out of her head that two of her best friends liked each other and didn't know it. Well, she didn’t know if Fred indeed reciprocated the feelings, but Ariana was prepared to question him [without letting him know that Janet likes him] about it. Very childish, she knew that. But after all, the gryffindor girl was undoubtedly foolish and rowdy at times. It seemed only fitting that this was the type of spontaneous activity she would delve into.
Throughout the day she hadn’t encountered an opportunity to talk to Fred alone. The brunette could sense the tension between Janet and Fred; it was startling really, to hear her best friend, who usually was full of energy, so quiet. Ariana had taken to subconsciously darting her eyes back and forth between the pair, only stopping when she found herself grinning too noticeably. The result was to snatch up a random textbook and hide behind it, silently laughing until Janet thought to point out that the book was upside down.
It was about then that she plonked herself on a comfy chair in the study room, getting out her homework and examining the due assignments while awaiting Fred’s appearance.
He didn't know what was coming.

Whoops! I shouldn't have told you that!
It was a usual day for Fred, nothing out of the ordinary had occurred so far- in fact it was almost startling. Ariana seemed too quiet for his liking, only grinning suddenly at times then glancing at Janet before bursting into a fit of giggles. Her happiness brought a bewildered smile to his face- although it was suspicious, Janet on the other hand seemed slightly awkward, Fred wondered what was up with her, she seemed distant almost, hardly her excited, rowdy self.
Janet. Well he could go on and on about the girl, only, he didn't. Not out loud anyway. The boy didn't fully understand what he was feeling towards the girl, he had never had a crush before, yet he couldn't help but feel mesmerized by her sparkling eyes as deep as the ocean, bright full of adventure. Then there was her smile, her friendly nature, her amazing personality. She was perfect in his eyes.
Then again, he was sure she didn't see him as anything like that, after all she was so pretty she probably had other boys on her tail. What was he compared to them?
Who better than Ariana to talk to about this, he decided that he would, he was going to spill his secret. He was going to tell Ariana. She was Janet's best friend for god's sake, she would know. She would know what he could do.
Fred knew that Ariana couldn’t care less at this point for a love life. Although he couldn’t help wondering if she carried some sort of Veela heritage; the girl certainly managed to attract the attention of boys almost instantly, although that could be owed to her fun-loving, sparkling personality. She was like a sister to Fred, she gave the funniest advice and had the best ways to cheer him up- he was sure that if he told her about Janet then she would be thrilled to help. But he couldn’t help wondering about her reaction- this was her best friend he was talking about. Would she laugh? He knew she had the knack to not take things seriously at times; and this was serious, well at least to Fred it was.
So as he made his way to the study room, spotting his girl-best friend perched on a chair reading a library volume, he made his way over, almost silently. She seemed so into the book that he thought of taking this opportunity to give her a jump scare. Grinning to himself, he leant towards her, swiping the book out of her hands and whispering, “Gotcha!” in her ear.

Ariana's head had been resting lazily on the open astronomy textbook. Okay, she could admit it had only been a few minutes, but the girl's attention span wasn't exactly that efficient, especially when it came to studying. She was staring into space, apparently oblivious to anything around her, green orbs unfocused and brown locks messily strung over her face.
“Gotcha!”
It was an underestimate to say that Ariana jolted in shock, in fact she jumped so violently, that the textbook was sent cascading to the floor, and she only just managed to suppress a squeal of surprise. Spinning round abruptly she turned to come face to face with Fred, sending him a furious glare she whispered forcefully, “What have I told you about jump-scaring me!” She hit him over the head, although not with her full strength, she hoped the minimal pain was enough to suppress him from trying the tactic again. She turned away, but could almost sense his signature smirk as she picked up the textbook. Fred had a knack for brushing off Ariana's waspish comments, it seemed he knew that she was only joking, temper was temporary, at least in her book. The anger would flit away almost instantly. Maybe that's why she liked Fred so much, he knew how to deal with her dramatic reactions, to calm her down. They were truly great friends, their traits complementing each other perfectly.
Ariana hadn't forgotten her task of confronting the boy regarding Janet. However, this could wait until later, for now she would throw in the usual jokes and talk, along with the comfortable silence as they worked on their work, occasionally uttering words here and there as they got on with work. “Sky confronted me again today.” She chuckled wryly, just as she was dotting off an ‘i’ on her assignment. She leant back in her chair and twirled her quill through her fingers. Freds reactions to everything were always slow, and so for good measure, Ariana chucked the quill at his head, throwing her head back in boredom. “Hey! Take a break from-” she snatched the paper from his grasp scrutinizing the words in recognition of the subject, “Astronomy.” “Come on, it's been ages.” Her complaints didn't last long however, as she continued to speak, this time asking a question, “You think the girl has got something she's hiding? She certainly seems closed off.” The question was interesting and she didn't exactly expect an answer, rather it was something they could both ponder on. Fred knew how much Ariana hated Sky, and Fred sure hated her too, although he was quite reserved about it at times. “Boy, Janet hates her nearly as much as me, and that saying something.” she gave a laugh retrieving her quill from the desk and leaning back again. So far, so good.
“Speaking of Janet, have you noticed anything unusual about her lately?” So much for the ‘ease into it slowly’ idea, way to go Ariana; always rushing into things. She internally scolded herself, although this did not last long, for although her posture showed nothing short of mild interest [if not, then neutral relaxation] her ears were attentive, her brain listening carefully for what was to come.
