Eyre had been excited all morning to see Tallis, because over night snow had come. It was a bit sparse around the edges of the castle where they usually sat on Sundays, but he knew of a perfect place in a clearing that would serve as an exceptional area for a snowball fight.

Snowball fights with his sisters was his favorite part of winter. At first he hated them because they'd always have the upper hand, but he soon grew to develop a good enough strategy. Tallis was a muggle born, so he wondered if she'd have more of an advantage to him, but he figured it might be easier too. After all, he didn't have to worry about her using spells to cast multiple balls on him at once.

Eyre went down to the grounds wearing a backpack. He had dressed himself in clothes appropriate for the weather, layered in a sweater and his puffy jacket, with long black pants and snow boots. He didn't feel much like wearing a hat today, so he wore his hood up. Sometimes the chill felt nice against his ears.

Once he reached their spot, Tallis waved to him and smiled.

"Hello Eyre." She said, scooping up her sketchbook into her lap. He noticed that she was wearing her regular outfit, and frowned.

"I knew you were going to be wearing that. Here, I brought some warm clothes for our snowball fight!" Eyre said, unzipping his bag. He pulled out a warm scarf, his red hat and some gloves, handing them to her. "Really, I don't know how you manage to be out here in the freezing cold in a dress. Do you have a warming spell up your sleeve?" He teased. They'd grown to be good friends in the past two months, so he felt fine about giving her some playful flack once in awhile.

"I enjoy the cold, but..," Tallis started, pulling on the clothes that he had given her, " I appreciate these, thank you." Eyre smiled at her. He was glad that she had grown to be more comfortable with him, since he enjoyed the time that they had been spending together. He'd rather hang out with Tallis than spend his Sunday morning working on Transfiguration or anything truly productive. He could save that for later, after he had his fun.

"Also, I have had quite a few snowball fights in my life so don't expect me to go easy on you," She teased him, which Eyre had to laugh at.

"Oh, so now you're taunting me? You, Tallis, one of the most non-threatening people that I know?" He chuckled, putting his backpack back on. "Bring it on!"

Eyre began to lead her to the clearing that he told her about earlier, the fresh snow crunching under his boots and leaving a trail behind the two. Once they got there, he placed his bag on the ground (tucking Tallis' sketchbook carefully into it, also, of course) and the two began to create two barriers out of snow on either side of the clearing, which Eyre had drawn a long line in the snow to signify the middle of the two territories.

Once they were done, Eyre rolled up a snowball in his hands, crunching the snow together until it made a compact ball. He tossed it up and down in the air tauntingly as if he was meaning to scare her.

"Are you ready to lose, Oblidge?" He purred with a smug look stretched across his face.

Snowballs went flying across the field, and needless to say, Tallis had impressed him with the level of accuracy that she had in throwing them and nailing him in the chest, legs and arms. Eyre was doing an okay job at getting her once in awhile, but it was true- she did have an advantage over him as a muggle born.

Once he got the swing of things he was able to avoid getting hit for the most part, and eventually ended up crouched over in his fort with his back facing the snowballs that Tallis was firing at him. He was cooking up something nasty, a large snowball that he was going to throw that would hopefully help him reestablish his dominance as king of the territory.

As he was sitting in his fort, Tallis was sneaking up behind him with a massive snowball of her own creation. Before he was about to be covered in snow from Tallis' trick, he grabbed another clump of snow from the ground that was discarded when he had made his snowball and whipped around to face her.

"Hey, Tallis!" Eyre called out faux-mockingly. He tossed the small piece of snow to the left side of Tallis to get her attention, before hurling the glorified snow-rock in her direction.

This is where everything went wrong. He intended on hitting her in the chest, having a big laugh with her about it and calling a truce, but his aim was off and the ball smacked her so hard in the left eye that he could hear an audible CLAP! as it made contact with her delicate skin. The force was hard enough that she lost her balance, falling backwards and into the cold blanket of snow behind her. Eyre rushed to her side, nearly tripping over the barrier that he had made in an effort to see if his friend was okay.

"Tallis?... Oh my god, are you alright?!" He sat on his knees next to her, trying to gently take her face in his hands to see how bad the damage is. "Can I see?"

Tallis' hands were on her face, hiding her eye from him. He put his hands on hers, but her hands wouldn't budge. Eventually, she took them away from her face. The outside of her eye was just a bit red and puffy from the snowball's impact, but otherwise it wasn't bleeding like he was anticipating.

Oh, thank Merlin, I thought that I had blinded her-OH MY GOD

Eyre jumped back a l ittle when he noticed that, once she had opened her eyes, he would be met with a clouded over iris. He'd never seen anything like that before, and all of the neurons in his 11 year old brain were firing off at once. He tried to say something.

"I-I... um...T-t-t-t..." He stuttered, his mouth turning dry. He desperately tried to make his tongue work, but instead all he could do was mumble. He took a deep breath through his nose to calm his nerves, his heart palpatating in his chest .

"Tal-Tallis... Oh my god... I blinded you..." Eyre blubbered.

His eyes had filled with tears, and he began to sob. Eyre Reeves, within 3 months of being in Hogwarts, had successfully blinded a girl for life. He was going to get expelled from school, he was going to be sent home, and he was going to be grounded for life, he just knew it. He was just short of a week before his 12th birthday, and he was going to spend it behind bars. He had truly blown it.

He put his hand over his mouth, hyperventilating horribly and sniffling, trying to hold back his tears as he was in hysterics. "Oh god... I'm so sorry... I think I'm going to be sick..."

Her words didn't quite process until she was wiping away his crocodile tears, then he finally realized what was going on. It wasn't his fault. Tallis was already blind in one eye to begin with. But... why didn't she tell him?

"I was so scared... but this isn't your fault I...I promise it isn't." She told him. Now she was crying too. Tallis let out a sob and gave Eyre a tight hug, which he returned by wrapping his arms around her neck and crying into the shoulder of her sweater. "It's not your fault," She sobbed, "I was so scared, I'm sorry."

They looked absolutely pathetic crying in the middle of the clearing, their barriers long abandoned and the territorial line damaged by the tracks that they'd made by plopping down in the center of it. He pulled away from her hug after some time, wiping away his tears with his glove and sniffling loudly.

"I'm... I'm so stupid." He said, his eyes now red and glossy. He let out a laugh at this, looking down at his snow speckled gloved hands with a silly grin on his face. "I thought I had blinded you... An-And you've been blind all along..." He began to laugh at his stupidity. Once he had let out the rest of his built up tension through laughing at the silly situation, he sniffled a bit more, wiping away the last bit of dried tears from his face and leaving his cheeks tear-streaked and rosy from the mixture of the cold air and his warm tears.

"'M sorry that you felt like you couldn't tell me... And I'm sorry that I hit you so hard with the snowball, that was a wicked trick." He said, his expression turning quite serious. "Will you forgive me?"
