Questionable First Impressions
It would be an understatement to say that Kevin felt out of place in Hogwarts, at least in those first few weeks. He had never been surrounded by this much magic, wizards and witches before. The lack of technology and internet didn't help either. It had to be a criminal offence to have a boarding school without a gaming console, or at the very least, a TV!

Attending the classes left him bored and sleepy as usual, so he decided to take a stroll outside and get some fresh air before returning to the common room. Who knew, maybe he could discover a nice spot to skateboard on the weekend after all!
Making his way to the lake leisurely and distracted, Kevin attempted to skip some rocks on the water, only to find out it wasn't a skill he currently possessed. Assuming that this little walk was a waste of time, no matter how peacefully chill the early autumn air felt, he let out a little defeated sigh and turned around to go back to the castle. That's when he saw a girl he hadn't noticed there initially.
He looked at her face for a couple of seconds, with the mundane questions of 'Have I seen her before? Maybe she's a first year too…' in his mind, only to realize just how unhappy her expression seemed. Without thinking too much, he decided that he had to interact with her in some way. And of course, he wasn't going to be normal by going up to her and asking if something was wrong. That's for pretentious losers!
With the belief that getting distracted from whatever was on her mind could make her feel better for the moment, Kevin did the first thing that came to his mind, no matter how nonsensical and annoying. He slid one hand into his pocket and grabbed the chocolate frog that he was carrying just in case of a sweet craving… and threw it towards her with the accuracy of a true troublemaker.
"Hey, think fast!" he called out with a grin as the chocolate frog went flying towards the unsuspecting girl. His intentions might have been good at first, but his mischievous expression, mixed with his spiky and studded accessories and messy black eyeliner, made him look just like the type to pick on someone for fun. There wasn't any hint of the friendliness that would normally be expected from someone sharing a snack on his face. Having no idea how annoying he looked, Kevin found the situation funny, he ended up chuckling before the girl could even react.

I had been siting by the lake for a while staring at the water without actually seeing it.
I missed home.
The thought of home was stuck in my head all day. I missed my family, my own room and the familiar voices.
I rubbed my hands together and took a deep breath trying to push the feeling away.
Then
"Hey, think fast!" I heard a boy shout.
Something suddenly flew toward me.
I had no time to react before a chocolate frog landed beside me.
I saw it for a moment before looking up.
A boy was standing there laughing. He had messy black hair, dark clothes, black eyeliner around his eyes, and accessories with many spiks and studs.
Normally I would have found the whole thing funny and harmles.
But I was not in the mood.
Not today.
I picked up the choclate frog and walked towards him my expression geting colder with every step.
"Did you seriously just throw that at me?"
My voice came out too serious without me wanting.
He somehow made me even more annoyed by laughing at me. I was already strugling not to feel too miserable and now some stranger thought I was entertainment.
"You don't know me so don't throw things at me like we're friends." I said but it made me feel bad saying that.
I showed the chocolate frog toward him.
"Take it back." I said.
For a second my voice cracked and I quickly looked away so he would not notice.
I hated that.
I hated feeling so far from home. I hated that little things suddenly made me want to cry and mostly I hated the thought of some random boy seeeing that I was not able to handle Hogwarts as well as I actd.
I folded my arms.
"Find someone else to annoy."
I turned away hoping he would leave.
Then I said to myself quietly "I already have enough to deal with."
"Magic can make anything happen. It reveals itself only to those who have eyes to see it"

After throwing something at the unsuspecting young girl, Kevin had expected a gasp, a flinch, or just any expression of surprise. Instead, she simply gave him what sounded like a full on scolding. Who does that girl think she is?

Her attitude was enough to make him stop laughing, easily wiping the smirk off his face. "Geez…" he mumbled and rolled his eyes as an unimpressed, grumpy little pout appeared on his face. He carelessly stuffed the chocolate frog back into his pocket. "Good thing you didn't overreact or anything."
At that moment, he genuinely wanted to talk back, act even meaner, and put her in her place for turning his harmless little joke into a dramatic scene. Yet he couldn't bring himself to actually do it, not after witnessing just how gloomy she looked and sounded. He might have been a cynical goofball, but at the very least, he wasn't cruel.
"If you think that was annoying, you're totally in for a treat at this place." he shrugged, casually mentioning that his first days at Hogwarts hadn't been so fun either.
As she turned away to leave, he stood still, making no attempt to follow her. Still, he couldn't stop himself from adding one last passive aggressive comment. "Yeah, sure, because you have so much to deal with… like fighting off werewolves and inventing a cure for dragon pox, right?"
Once again, he came off much more condescending than he had intended. At this point, it would have been nearly impossible for anyone to figure out that his initial intention had just been to distract her from whatever was making her feel down.
