Mentioning: @Strike AllenWord Count: 391Weekends were rarely anything to look forward to. Back at home, it was two long, grueling days of putting up with his mother, who was always irritated by Atlas' mere existence. Brown-green eyes scrutinized him to bits and pieces, desperately searching for a reason to antagonize him. When she found one, no matter how small, it was what she clung to for the next three days as if her life depended on it. If she were unsuccessful in her endeavors, no worries; what lovely imagination this woman had, crafting scenarios which villainized her own son. Atlas deemed her mad long ago.
Though he wouldn't have to deal with her nonsensical bullshit until next summer, Hogwarts had its own problems. Books were plentiful and friends were scarce. He had never read so much in his life. Today, boredom finally struck him as he finished The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection for the thirteenth time, leaving him with no desire to return to the common room. A quick breakfast sufficed him, and he headed to the corridors, wandering about in a way that seemed purposeful to any unsuspecting passerby.
The hallways were less familiar without the bustling crowds of students scurrying to their classes. A decent handful remained, however, scattered sparsely and too preoccupied with their own tasks to pay any attention to the bored and lonely Atlas.
Loneliness was an awful feeling the boy had been a stranger to, until the world conveniently decided he must suffer more.
No weekends and afternoons had been spent out on the Hogwarts grounds. It only made sense for that to change, though he found himself in the school courtyard instead. The fountain was impossible to miss, yet this was the first time Atlas saw it. Perhaps the clumps of students, which were nowhere to be seen now, had blocked his view before.
The weather was pleasant and autumn-like. Earlier days of September had been far too hot for Atlas' taste. The courtyard was completely devoid of life with the exception of a few, but noticeable red, orange, and brown leaves dancing in the breeze all over the stone ground. Without thinking, he sat at the fountain's base, eyes cast downwards by boredom and loneliness.
If only the fountain wasn't dry as a rock, he'd toss a coin and wish for a friend.

Strike was a little disappointed that flying wasn't allowed outside the Quidditch Pitch and the Training Pitch. He'd missed summer camp where he could drape himself across his Firebolt and lazily fly around wherever he felt like going, especially after a long, hard morning of his daily training regimen. One thing he noticed about having to walk rather than fly around, however, is that it forced him to notice more of his surroundings - both things and people.
That was how he happened to notice a boy sitting on the edge of the dry fountain in the middle of the school courtyard. The kid looked to be about his age with dark brown hair that was both wavy and bushy in style. His eyes, when the blond got close enough to see them, were amber like his own, which surprised Strike because he didn't see other amber eyes all that often.
"Hello," he greeted, approaching the boy with a smile. Since the other student didn't appear to really have anything with him or anyone around to talk to, the Greek Hufflepuff figured he must have been either bored or lost deep in thought. Maybe both, but he knew from experience that it wasn't always fun to be lost in your own thoughts. "Are you waiting here for someone? Or something?"

Mentioning: @Strike AllenWord Count: 269The skies were crowded with clouds, and one may assume the sun was hiding behind them, but they would be wrong. The sun had actually escaped to the Hogwarts courtyard and taken the form of an eleven-year-old boy who just so happened to be approaching Atlas.
The boy's head was a raging ball of solar flares. Bronze and gold curls flew out in every direction in a messy yet neat way. His face was tanned, clear evidence that he was not one of those weirdos who spent five hours every weekend rereading the same Defense Against the Dark Arts textbook he spent time outdoors quite often, and the eyes on that aforementioned face were a pair of orange suns which seemed to emit light themselves.
Don't you dare screw this up. was the first thought that flew through the Ravenclaw's head. Though he'd been watching Sun Boy from his peripheral vision for a couple extra moments, the two pairs of amber eyes only met after the "Hello,".
"Are you waiting here for someone? Or something?"
"Not really," Atlas allowed himself a carefully calculated pause. "Unless you count lunch. Then I'll be here for a while." He made sure to speak dryly so that he wouldn't come off as pitiful. Realizing that sounding like a guilt-tripping beggar in desperate need of a friend was a possibility, a lazy smile was thrown in to cement the facade.
For a split second, Atlas was proud of himself for that little moment. Only for a split second though, because the boy had learned that things go south when he lets his guard down.
