Learning Purist Pureblood Ways PV Kahira Valerian

Place: Hogwarts Campgrounds
Date: Saturday, August 8, 2026
Time: Afternoon
A blond kid who was slightly shorter than average for his age wandered around camp, watching other kids do things and thinking about how he wished Liron was there. He looked up to Liron like an older brother and it was weird to be without him, especially after he had just lost his mother and he knew Liron must have needed comfort. Not to mention he often sought comfort from Liron's presence, too, before his parents had moved their family to London to prepare for his first school year at Hogwarts.

Though Strike was usually constantly watched by one or both parents at home to make sure he was doing what he was supposed to, it was odd for him to be without at least one of them watching him and evaluating his behavior and actions. He still couldn't quite figure out if he liked his newfound freedom or not. But he was starting to miss even his parents themselves. They may have been strict, but they were some of the only people familiar to him in London, especially while Liron was back in Greece with his own family. He hoped desperately that Liron would return to Hogwarts and attend the school with him once the school year started up, but he didn't know for certain that would happen, so he tried not to get his hopes up. In the meantime, he told himself, he would just have to learn to get to know other people to keep his loneliness at bay.

There were so many kids, though. Who would his parents have been alright with him making friends with and who would they not have been alright with? Strike had thought for the longest time that Liron had been alright to make friends with since his parents had been working with at least one of Liron's parents for a while. But then when Liron's mother had died, they had said she was a blood traitor and implied that term had had something to do with her death.

Unfortunately, Strike had no idea what the term 'blood traitor' meant, so he didn't know who might have been one or turned into one or not. But...perhaps he could find someone there at camp who could tell him. He noticed a girl nearby and approached her cautiously in his simple, light-colored clothing that was notably old-fashioned in the pureblood style.

"Um...hello," he greeted, remembering to try to smile. "Do you know...what a 'blood traitor' is...?"

About a week of camp had passed, and Kahira Valerian was already having rather a whale of a time.

She had been roomed (randomly, she might add!) with her best mate @Nova Vancourt, and though the other two girls in their cabin (@Idalia della Torre and @Caitríona MacDermott) were a bit... strange, to say the least, they certainly made for excellent pureblood friends, and Kahira had already begun to dream about what would happen when the four girls were Sorted into Slytherin together. Late nights in the snake dormitories, watching the mermaids pass by in the windows, helping each other with homework, discussing fashion trends and what they would do to make over their less fortunate and stylish pureblooded classmates... well, perhaps that latter one was more of a Kahira thing in particular, but a girl could still dream. And there had been lots of activities to do at camp, some of which had been fun (and some not), but the redhead was mostly still just loving being at Hogwarts, finally, for the first time in her life.

She had taken to exploring in her free time, often with her mates, but on occasion alone. After all, someone had to scope out all the excellent spots they'd be using for studies and gossip sessions in the fall. On this particular day, she had taken to a stroll about the campgrounds themselves, jotting down notes as to the fashion crimes she was seeing from some of the other students on a small piece of parchment whenever she stopped. Keeping a log of such atrocities was sure to help her with staying on top of Hogwarts' couture scene come September the first.

A blonde boy nearby, however, made her raise an eyebrow. He was perhaps her age, with a strange accent, just a few inches of height on her, and a shock of curly hair; though at first his outfit made some certain words come to mind (e.g. "dated", "boring", and plain"), she soon realised why it had made the recognition portion of her brain light up. The ensemble resembled something that her own grandparents or great-grandparents would have worn, that they did wear in the moving portraits of themselves as children that still hung on the walls of the Valerian manor in Chipping Campden. Though Kahira had certainly heard of time travel into the past, time travel into the future seemed nothing short of odd, so either this eleven-year-old fellow had figured it out... or he was just a pureblood with a very, very old-fashioned family.

As if her eyeing him had caught his own eye, the boy approached her, seeming rather lost in his general demeanour; Kahira was about to open her mouth to give directions to whatever part of the campgrounds the boy was clearly seeking, when all of a sudden, the question out of his lips genuinely surprised her. She eyed his forced smile, her ginger brows furrowing on her round face. "A - a blood traitor?" the redhead repeated, looking him up and down in a not-so-subtle manner of confusion, too shocked to even be actively mean (though, of course, she was a pro at being inactively judgmental anyway). "I'm sorry, are you not a pureblood? I could have sworn based off of your clothing... but I've never met anyone from a good lineage clueless on such a matter..."

Uh oh. Had he chosen the wrong person to ask? But she at least seemed to know what he was talking about. And…seemed to know he was a pureblood. Was she one too, then? He thought her clothes seemed more muggle-like, but he wasn’t all that good at differentiating them from wizard clothes. He himself wore fairly simple wizard clothes; something like a tunic and shorts. Nothing really to express the usual wealth of pureblood families. But it was probably strange enough from the usual muggle clothes that the girl could tell his family had nothing to do with them.

He tried to remember the families and pictures and names his parents had tried to teach him to memorize before the school year started. This girl had seemed familiar to him, which he supposed might have been a reason why he’d instinctively felt compelled to ask her about blood traitors, but her name was slipping his mind just then. Oh…that was right. He thought he had remembered her family because they were in the business of potions like Liron’s family was. Or, at least, his dad.

"I'm a pureblood," Strike confirmed. "I’m from Greece and I just moved here recently, so…you might not know me or my family. But…you’re Kahira Valerian, right?" His parents had made him pay extra close attention to those pureblood families who were likely to have kids going to Hogwarts during the same year he was. Kahira had been one of them. Even if he seemed ignorant or naïve about blood traitors, at least he could avoid seeming totally clueless. "My parents told me they would tell me when I was older…but I don’t know how I’m supposed to avoid blood traitors if I don’t know what makes one or what they are. Would you mind helping me, please?" He clasped his hands behind his back shyly. "I can do you a favor in exchange. Whatever you want that I can do."

Normally, Kahira introduced herself with her surname first; after all, the Valerian Consortium was something that should have been known to any pureblood with taste, and at least familiar to wizard-borns and half-bloods who would have seen the shelves at their local apothecary stocked with her family's company's physical potions galore. She was used to watching recognition flicker across the faces of the worthy, and an empty stare or confused visage on those who were to be ignored. But this was new - someone actually knowing who she was, before she had so much as spoken a syllable of her moniker. Plus, he had already asked her for assistance and offered his services to do whatsoever she needed.

Obedient, pedigreed, and deferential - she liked this little golden-haired fellow already.

"Well! What a lovely surprise to meet someone so well-versed in those families with taste," she preened, dipping her head in something somewhat reminiscent of a curtsy or some other pure greeting, though her impeccably dressed body stayed deadly still. "Kahira Valerian, indeed. You may call me Kahira. Though I suppose you are correct; I do not know who you are." She quirked an eyebrow. "Would you care to rectify this?"

The redhead reached out and pinched the beige fabric on the blond boy's collar, rubbing it between her fingers with a dry, humourless chuckle. "Your parents should know better than to send their child to Hogwarts without having properly prepared you for all those you shall encounter here... the right sort and the wrong." Kahira's eyes half-rolled on the final word, a flutter of her long eyelashes evident on her porcelain face. "But at this rate, it seems you'll be the one more in need of my services. Salazar's sideburns, are these clothes from three hundred years ago? Surely you have something more... modern? Or at least a tad fancier?"
