If there had been a way to avoid going away for schooling for the next seven years and being home tutored instead, Casimir wouldn’t have hesitated. This was quite an annoyance to him, leaving his mother alone with the help and having to pursue an education he didn’t believe would be overly helpful. He didn’t really need a career with his family wealth, and while he wanted to become a proficient wizard who could defend against anybody magical or non, that could be taught by someone hired.
Unfortunately, Mother hadn’t seen it that way, and he’d never been able to say no to her. She claimed this would help him socially, and while he could’ve argued that their reclusive family didn’t need socialization either, he did want to improve the family name. It was already a well known and respected family, but according to Father it was each generation’s responsibility to take that to new heights. Now was a time when things were changing, and with so many half-bloods taking over the world the purebloods had to be seen and to make their voices known.
Cas sighed, flipping a coin idly across his knuckles. What did it mean to be great? How could he go about achieving ‘greatness’ in ways that let him improve society? He didn’t consider himself particularly charming—he could flatter, schmooze, and talk magic with others in his class, but that was about it—so maybe that was one of the skills he should focus on? Becoming charming, a silver-tongued boy who could coax secrets and admiration from even the staunchest critics?
The door opened and Casimir turned flat eyes to the person standing there, gold disappearing up his sleeve as he frowned.
“Get out. I’m not interested in small talk.”

Mentions: @Casimir BeaumontReducioOoooh interesting character. And a potential fellow Hufflepuff annoyance too! Looking forward to having lots of fun with this.Gemini was almost late. Almost, not actually, so there technically wasn't an issue. Actually, there was one small inconvenience- most of the carriages were full. Welp, nothing like searching for an empty car to meet new people and start off the year, I guess.
Having had enough experience by now to head straight towards the end, he pulled his trunk along behind him, shooting off quick waves to vaguely familiar faces, almost disappointed when he didn't see the pink-haired badger he'd roomed with last year. Finally reaching one of the last few compartments, he pulled open the door, some scripted greeting almost spilling from his mouth when he was met with a brisk "Get out. I'm not interested in small talk."
That wasn't expected, but obviously they could just be in a bad mood. Scratch that, he looks like he could totally be an annoying pain and I should move carriages. But maybe if I hang around long enough I could get him to like me. If not, banter is fun, right? Right. But neither of that will happen if I don't say anything.
"Wow, you seem friendly," he replied without missing a beat. "Considered joining the interact club or the school newspaper or something? Like, what a winning personality." Gem shot the kid a practiced, almost sincere-looking grin. "I mean, unless my entire first impression of you is correct, in which case I'll just have to tell you that it's kinda crowded out there so you'll have to put up with me anyway," he finished, spreading his hands in a placating gesture.
Picking up his trunk again, he entered the train compartment fully, pushing it up onto the luggage rack above and settling into the seat across from the first year.

ReducioCan't wait, I'm happy to interact with a fellow 'Puff!
Eyes narrowed as the boy spoke, choosing to interact with Cas instead of immediately listening to his instruction to leave. He wasn't accustomed to random people not listening to him, but he supposed the reasoning was logical. The train only had so many compartments, which meant he'd be stuck with at least one or two people. His fingers shook for a moment until he curled them into fists to tamp down whatever was making them shake. It was fine, then. This was the way it was, he had to accept it.
“I'm trying to be friendlier, but I don't think what I said was particularly friendly,” he observed. Understanding sarcasm was not one of Casimir's strong suits. “What's the school newspaper? I don't want to join an interact club because I intend to focus on my studies, but that might interesting.” He'd never considered writing for a newspaper before, but he did like to scour them for the latest information on the world. Maybe being one of the people on the forefront of discovering 'the news' was something that could make somebody great.
He took a moment to study the newcomer as the boy racked his luggage, assessing what he could see. This student appeared to be older than him, and he hadn't gotten offended or even paused when Cas had given him an order that others might take poorly. Did he have no boundaries? Did he let people walk all over him? That would be very strange if he allowed that with even a younger student. But no, that couldn't be right, because he'd not listened properly and even said things that Cas found confusing. Did he think being forceful meant being friendly?
“Are you stupid?” Cas asked, but it wasn't a question meant to provoke, it was genuine curiosity. Did stupid people know they were stupid? “Or do you have that... there's something in people's brains where they don't recognize tone. I can't recall the name of it. Do you have that?”
