I had been standing near the entrance of the Great Hall looking at all the different activities. The whole place looked completely different from everday. There were Christmas decorations everywher and the warm lights made everything feel cheerful.

It was strange to celebrate Christmas when it was still Septembe but I actually liked the idea.

I looked around the tables when I noticed Minju sitting at the Card Decorating Table.

A smile immediately appeared on my face.

Minju.

I remembered her birthday was today, I remembered it every year since we had first met in our childhood.

Every year I made a little birthday card for her but I never actually sent tem. I always keept them somewhere in my things telling myself that I would give them to her someday.

And now I finally had the chance.

I quickly walked towards her table.

"Minju!" I called smiling as I reached her.

I sat down beside her and looked at the cards and colourful supplies spread across the table.

"Happy birthday!"

I could not help smiling.

I laughed softly before noticing thet she was decorating a card.

"Are you making a Christmas card?"

I said while grabbing a little card myself.

"I still can't believe we are celebrating Christmas in September but I think it'll be fun."

I turned the card over in my hands.

Then I looked back at Minju.

"You know, I've made you a birthday card every year. I just never gave them to you." I said embarrasedly.

"I don't really know why. I always thought I'd give them to you someday."

I glanced at her again.

"I'm really happy that I get to celebrate your birthday with you this year."

I picked up a quill and some decorations.

"Maybe I can make you one right now."

I smiled excitedly.

"And this tim you actually get it."

The enchanted ceiling of the Great Hall was one solid, grey overcast of clouds that morning.

And yet, as Rosamund stared gobsmacked at all the warm Yuletide lights decorating the hall, the gloomy skies overhead didn't stop the cheery spirit of the holiday still but a hundred days away.

It really was way too early for this, both in the sense of the ungodly hour of the morning and celebrating said holiday so soon after just enjoying the sun in summer. But then, she remembered that there were certain cultures that apparently celebrate Yuletide a lot longer than they do. There was this one rare family dinner with her father mentioning how his business associates during his travels to the Philippines celebrate said holiday as early as the first of September and as late as January. So wild was the concept that she even forgot to wonder why their antique auction business would even bring her father on the literal other side of the world.

She slowly wandered to one of the stations and stared some more at the Lear cut out. That is an interesting choice, she nodded to herself, before considering the table full of cards, scrolls, envelopes, and random bits and bobs and glitters. Just from these, she gathered that they were supposed to create a Yuletide card for our friends and family. In the middle of September. Right.

After considering it some more, she shrugged and decided to troll her crazy American penpal.

She took a card, an envelope, a quill and some colored inks. She found a pressed sprig of something vaguely festive looking, deemed it acceptable, and ignored all the other bits of glittering bobs. She cleared a space at the table and started to free-hand draw at the cover a sky full of stars with a small, shaky depiction of Hogwarts at the background in one side, a forest of pines on the other, and a blanket of snow in the foreground.

Upon the inside of the card, she penned an overly loquacious message:

img

A Most Sincere and Thoroughly Premature Yuletide Greetings, dearest Perry!

Christmas—as your people insist on calling it—is exactly one hundred days distant from the date of this letter. And yet, I find that the festive spirit once roused refuses to observe anything so pedestrian as a mere calendar, much as the sun refuses to observe your American insistence that darkness ought to arrive promptly and stay arrived. You will, of course, recall our extensive and largely undignified correspondences on the subject of astronomical twilight; it only seems fitting that I extend to you a greeting equally reluctant to commit to a fixed and sensible hour of arrival.

Nevertheless, I bestow a heartfelt prayer that your holidays, whenever you eventually consent to have them, be marked by an abundance of goodwill amongst your peers, a no-maj almanac smuggled in without due incident, and—should the stars align, quite literally, given our shared affliction and predilection to the study of the stars and beyond—a sky dark enough on the night in question to see something properly astronomical in it, rather than merely nautical.

I remain, with the fullest and most inconvenient measure of premature sentiment,
esig
P.S. — Do not write back to inform me that it is not yet Christmas. I am aware. That is the point.
P.P.S. — I have enclosed a pressed sprig of something festive-looking. It is not Holly. There is no Holly in September.
Signing it with an unnecessarily large flourish of her name at the end, she gave it another once-over as she waited for the ink to dry, and then sealed it in a plain envelope with the pressed sprig.

Satisfied, she pocketed it and looked at the other stations to check out what they offer.

Hundred days.

Marigold seemed focus on the thought of adjusting into this new world that she hadn't realized there's only few days remaining before Christmas arrives. And unlike before, the Great Hall looked different than usual. Well, the floating candles remained suspended high above with their flames flickering like it was dancing lazily with the warm air. But now there's decorations and ornaments that glitters around. Aside from garlands and pines standing on the side, the tables also were littered with lists of art materials.

Christmas. Already.

And somehow, it kind of reminded her of home. Not the enchanted walls and such, but the warmth. It was like how it was at home when they're starting to prepare for the day... untangling the Christmas lights and designing the small pine tree with what they want and boxes of gifts for each other underneath. And then her Dad would whine with her Mom about the gifts or bother her while baking cookies. The memory made her smile despite herself. I miss my parents.

She pushed her reminiscing at the back of her mind as she quietly approach the nearest station beside her, the table swarmed with countless art materials. Basing from the cardboards and other things beside the scattered pens, this is where they'll be doing cards. And her thought proved true when the older student started to explain what they will be doing. Christmas cards... artistic and sentiment. Affections and creativity. It's a good activity to help people relax and enjoy. And it's a great opportunity for her to make her parents some cards to surprise them before holiday break.

With that thought, she quietly approached and settled into a table a bit far from others and took two blank, plain cream-colored cards from the box nearby and smoothed their surfaces with the palm of her hand.

For her mother, she took pale sage-green sheet of decorative paper and started trimming it with the small, unused scissor that she grabbed on the side. She cut different shapes and made sure that it's edges were evenly cut. Once she was finished, she started to brush a thin layer of glue over each designs and started to design the card. Then she added few flower stickers and some gold glitters. By the time she was satisfied with the design, she finally grabbed the other card and started designing it. Unlike the card for her mother, she designed her dad's card differently with dark green color and yellow-orange overlaps, opting for a simple style but with touches of her. She knew how her father cherishes her so she made sure that the card will always remind him of his sweet daughter who loves him just the same.

After designing both cards, she grabbed some pens and markers. With careful penmanship, she had managed to put a neat lettering outside the cards without destroying or overlapping the inks against the design. She opted to make it simple with 'Happy Christmas!' to both cards as she doesn't want to overcomplicate things.

When it was time to write the letters, she took a quill and dipped it in a black ink before starting to write her message.

Dear Mum,

I hope you're doing well, Mommy! I miss you very much and I hope that you're not worrying about me too much. The school is still very strange, but I'm learning lots of new things and met many nice people that treats me very well. I'm doing well and I'm not forgetting all your reminders, and I can't wait to see you in the holidays!

I designed this card like how it was in the garden. Do you like it? I know you like my artistic side because you framed the collage I made back then.

I hope we can decorate the house together again when I come home for Christmas break. I love you, Mum. See you soon.

Lovingly,
Your Goldie.

Dear Dad,

Happy hundred days before Christmas, Daddy! I know it's too early and I can imagine what you'll say but this is kind of an activity from the school and how can I miss doing you and Mum one?

I hope that everything at home is alright, and that you're not forgetting to water my plants like how you promised. Please don't let Mum convince you that they need watering every five minutes or you'll drown them. By the way, I'm also learning many magic things here. Some are difficult but I'm trying my very best. I'd love to show you everything but I think I can't do any magic outside school so you'll just have to imagine things.

I can't wait to come home and tell you everything I did here in Hogwarts. See you in Christmas, Dad! I love you!

Lovingly,
Goldielocks!

After finishing her letter, she stared at it for a short while before hiding a smile of satisfaction. She was that satisfied with her work and had great confidence that her parents will love what she did.

"Dialogue" "Thought"
After her wonderful experience with the cookie decorating, Sofia was on a creative roll. Her thoughts were racing, she had so many ideas of what to make for the cards. "I could make it for my parents and sister back home, to tell them all about Hogwarts so far." That made Sofia even more excited to make her card.

She got settled on a bench with her blank card, "Hmmm....should I decorate or write first. It think I'll decorate first." She soon picked up a pencil and began to sketch, it was scenic picture, a picture of 4 people in the snow. Back at her home in the muggle world, Sofia and her family had a tradition of whenever it snowed around Christmas, they would go out and have a snowball fight. She laughed to herself and added a snow splat on the top of her dad's head, he was always the one who got hit by the snowballs.

She folded the card gently then reopened it to begin to write.
Dear, Mum, Dad and Izzy,

I miss you all so much, but I'm so glad I came to Hogwarts. It's breathtaking. Everything is so different to back home. It all feels rather odd sometimes.

But anyway how are you all, I've been cookie decorating and right now I'm decorating this card. I know it all seems so early to celebrate Christmas, but it's exactly 100 days to Christmas right now! I can't wait to come back home and talk about everything I've learnt and explored. I've even made new friends!

I'll see you soon!

Love, Sofia

Who could have guessed that the Great Hall could look more magical than usual? Eyes sparkling, Sia simply had to stop and admire the view when she entered. Christmas decorations already? Not that she was complaining.

She absolutely loved Christmas. She would’ve been the first to arrive if she’d known there would be such an event.

Distracted still by the sight, Sia didn’t pay much attention to where she was going as she wandered inside. Her gaze drifted from table to table, watching the students, until she spotted a familiar shade of red hair. And she all but flinched.

Frozen on her tracks, it takes Sia a second to remember to breathe. It’s probably a coincidence, she thinks. Surely they’re not the only redheads in Hogwarts. Even so, the thought comes to mind. The sister.

Her mind became a whirlpool of thoughts. Should she approach? She shuts down the idea as soon as it forms. No, she shouldn’t approach the sister for answers. That would be cowardly, and even rude. She has to approach the guy himself when she finds him. If she finds him.

Even when Sia decided that she’s better off staying away from that table, her eyes remained fixated on the girl. Then there was movement in the pocket of her shirt, and Lotus poked her little head out, nose twitching at the sugary scent in the air.

“Lotus!” Sia hissed, cupping her hands around her pocket while frantically looking around, in case anyone saw. She hadn’t checked, but she was pretty sure that pets are supposed to stay in dorms, and that thus she shouldn’t be carrying her bunny around in her pocket wherever she goes.

Sia hurriedly sat at the nearest table, so she wouldn’t look so suspicious hunching down to shove Lotus back into her pocket. Lotus stomped her hind legs, clearly upset at being forced to remain in the confinement of the small pocket. Sia glanced around once more, and gave a defeated sigh. Everyone seemed distracted by their projects, so she determined that it was safe enough for Lotus to make an appearance.

When Sia’s hands stopped fighting her, Lotus was more than happy to stick her head out again, black eyes observing her surroundings. Sia couldn’t help but coo at her beloved bunny. She’s lucky she’s cute.

No longer concerned with her bunny, Sia looked at the table she sat at. What she found is all the materials one could need to make a beautiful Christmas card, and she was filled with holiday joy again. Without much thought, she grabbed a blank card and a quill, wondering who she should send her card to.

Her mom? Her dad? Her cousin? Maybe even herself, for the future. Sia hummed, and her eyes found that red hair again. And just like that, she had an epiphany.

Of course! I’ll write to him!

If her heart started to beat like it was trying to break out of her chest at the thought of making contact with him, Sia ignored it. She had to focus. This card had to be near perfect. Why? She didn’t know. It just had to.

She began by cutting some lace ribbon to glue to the borders of the front of her card. To fill the empty space in the center, she made a cartoonish drawing of Lotus with a Santa hat. She even colored in Lotus’s grey fur, and made her hat pink.

And now for the tough part. Sia flipped her card open. What to write? Her palms began to sweat. She wiped them on her skirt, and peeked at Lotus, who was looking at the card on the table.

Oh, what the heck? She was overthinking it. Sia grabbed her quill, and wrote whatever words came to mind. It would likely end up being messy, she knew. But at least it would be sincere.

────୨ৎ────

Dearest Blazing,

Happy 100 days until Christmas.

I hope your summer vacations were enjoyable, and less boring than you expected.

I thought of you during the break. I missed you, but I was also confused. You were really nice to me, and I really thought of you as a friend. But you were a bit rude when you left, and the thing is, it seemed like you wanted to be rude. Like you wanted to push me away.

Did I do something to upset you? Did you hate how I painted your nails that much? I’m really sorry if I made you feel anything but comfortable. I didn’t mean to.

I’m not asking for you to explain yourself or anything. I just want us to see each other again. If you don’t want to be my friend anymore, you can just say that. But I’d like to hear it from you in person. I think you owe me that much.

Sorry, again, if you’re mad at me. I’d hate for you to be mad at me.

Sincerely,
Seal.

P. S: The bunny on the cover is mine. Her name is Lotus. I got her in the summer. She told me she wants to meet you.

────୨ৎ────

It was maybe too sincere. Terrifyingly sincere. But Sia thought that was better than being dishonest and guarded. As she suspected he was being.

Now she just had to give it to him.

Diana had already spent some time admiring the decorations in the Great Hall as she just finished making her ornament, but the card making table caught her attention as she wandered over. There was something rather nice about the idea of sending someone a little reminder that they were being thought of even if Christmas was still a hundred days away. She listened to Jrue's demonstration before looking over the assortment of cards and supplies.

There were plenty of people Diana could make a card for. She could make a card for friends, professors, and even family all crossed her mind but one particular person seemed like the more obvious choice. Her roommate @Olivia Evans. Diana picked up one of the blank cards and settled onto an empty seat. She decorated the front with a few silver stars and small blue dots and kept the design simple. Once she was satisfied with it she opened the card and began writing.

Dear Olivia,

I hope you have a wonderful Christmas when it finally arrives. I'm really glad we became roommates last year, and still are this year, and I'm glad we've gotten to spend another year together at Hogwarts. I hope the rest of the school year brings you lots of happy memories. Maybe when December comes we can decorate our dorm together.

Merry Christmas!

—Diana

Diana read the message once before adding a small silver star beside her name. As she closed the card she smiled to herself. It was a little early for Christmas whishes but that didn't make them any less sincere.

As she looked over the remaining cards on the table another thought crossed her mind. She was already making one card so why should she stop there? There were plenty of other people she wanted to remind that she was thinking of them too. Her grandmother was an obvious choice. She picked up another blank card and began decorating it with little silver stars and purple dots before writing her message.

Dear Grandma Margaret,

I hope you're doing well. I wanted to send you an early Christmas card from Hogwarts because I thought you might like one. I miss you and hope I get to see you during the holidays. Until then I'll keep thinking about you and all the stories you've told me. Thank you for being my mentor, especially when I was first trying to figure out that I'm a seer. I don't know why, but I think I'd need your help again this summer. But, since it's 100 days before Christmas, I hope you have an amazing Christmas when the day actually comes.

Love, Diana

Once she finished Diana carefully set the card beside Olivia's. She then reached for another card this one meant for her parents. She decorated it with blue and silver stars before writing a message to both of them.

Dear Mum and Dad,

Happy 100 days before Christmas! I hope everything is going well back home. Hogwarts has been keeping me busy, despite my second year only beginning, but I'm having a good time. I miss you both and am looking forward to seeing you when the holidays arrive. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

Love, Diana

With all three cards complete, Diana placed the three cards together and looked at them with a small smile. Maybe celebrating Christmas a hundred days early wasn't a bad idea at all.

Damaris walked through the corridors of Hogwarts, her mind filled with thoughts of the approaching Christmas season; the holiday was drawing nearer, and the anticipation excited her. She loved the season, and it meant she could return home to spend time with her father, her grandparents, and her pet—who stayed in Liverpool with them year-round.
"I hope Argos is behaving himself... I wonder if Grandma will make that chocolate cake," she mused, already excited about the things she might do during her few days at home.
Upon entering the Great Hall, she looked for the table where letters were being prepared. Haeli had mentioned that there were different stations for holiday preparations, and for the moment, Damaris was most interested in writing letters to her family. It wasn't that she didn't enjoy the other activities—well, actually, she wasn't very good at making Christmas cookies, so she preferred to steer clear of that task for now.
"I don't want to end up ruining something..." she thought as she walked toward the letter-writing table, looking for an empty spot where she could sit and work in peace.
Finding a free seat, she sat down, gathered some paper, a quill, and some colored sheets, and began to write, already having a few people in mind:
Her grandmother, Laena
Her grandfather, Otto
Her Muggle best friend, Shivani
Her father, Tristan
And one for her mother, Renna

Damaris’s mother had died in childbirth; she had never known her, possessing only a few photographs her father kept at home and the stories he and her grandparents told her. As a tradition, she always wrote her a letter at Christmas, and on December 25th, she and her father would take it to her grave—a way to keep her part of the holiday celebration, even though she was no longer with them.
Taking a deep breath to steady herself as thoughts of her mother surfaced, she forced herself to focus on writing the letters.
As she considered what to write to each of them, she recalled an incident from earlier that same year—when her father had gone to see her off at Platform 9¾. She remembered the argument regarding her father’s new relationship with another woman—a matter Damaris had never learned about from him; she had discovered it on her own, and her grandmother had been the one to explain it to her.
She didn't mind her father dating someone; on the contrary, she thought it was a good thing that would do him good. What bothered her—and still did—was that he had never told her. He had kept it hidden throughout her entire first year at Hogwarts, and that was what hurt the most: not the relationship itself, but the secrecy.
After a few moments lost in thought, she decided to start writing.

Damaris spent some time sitting and writing the letter; she didn't know exactly how much time had passed, but her hand ached and her arm felt numb.
"I'll continue with the letters tomorrow... my hand will thank me for it"
she told herself as she set the pen back down on the table, carefully folded the letter, and tucked it into an envelope inside her backpack. She would send it to Liverpool later, so her father could then forward it to Shivani.

Walking into the Great Hall in mid‑September, he was hit by falling snow and a strong smell of gingerbread. Bartholomew stood beside the wooden doors tightening the strap of his acoustic guitar and stared blankly at a cardboard cutout of Headmaster Lear wearing a Santa hat.

Bartholomew wondered, "What is this timeline even?" as Bartholomew ran a hand through his fringe. Bartholomew felt a glitch‑in‑the‑matrix energy.

Despite the chaos of celebrating a holiday a hundred days early Bartholomew had to admit that the setup was a massive win. The Great Hall was far calmer than the Gryffindor room and the card‑making station caught Bartholomew’s eye right away. Stacks of parchment muggle pens and quiet crafting seemed like a perfect solid timepass.

Bartholomew walked past the cookie‑decorating tables skillfully avoiding the hyperactive NPC energy of his fellow first‑years and found a quiet spot at the edge of the card station. Bartholomew took a unlined parchment card—ignoring all the aggressive glitter and loud stickers—and pulled out a muggle ink pen. Bartholomew aimed to write to his grandmother, Martha back in London. Martha was the person who sparked Bartholomew’s musical aesthetic and being here in this strange magical winter wonderland made Bartholomew genuinely miss her chill vibes.

Leaning over the wooden table Bartholomew carefully focused on his best handwriting:

Dear Gran,

Happy 100 days before Christmas! Yes, they are literally celebrating it in September. It is completely delulu. The aesthetic is actually pretty cozy. I am doing well mostly just playing my guitar by the lake and avoiding the drama in my dorm. I miss our afternoon jam sessions and listening to your old vinyl records. I hope you are having a chill autumn back in London. I will send you a gift when the actual holiday arrives.

Love,
Barry

Bartholomew blew on the ink to let it dry feeling very satisfied with his low‑effort but highly aesthetic work. Bartholomew slipped the card into a matching rustic envelope and flashed a relaxed appreciative smile toward the Hufflepuff prefect running the table. "This station is definitely the valid one in the room bro. Thanks, for the setup" Bartholomew said.

Aster finally made her way to the card table, glitter still clinging to her robe from the ornament. She supposed it would only get worse at this table. She pushed her hair behind her ear and reached for a blank card out of the pile. Several students leaned over their own cards nearby. She found an open spot to work and set to work making a card for her sisters.

She started by adding ivy, weaving its way in tones of green around the border of the card. In the center, she sketched, then colored, what she imagined Hogwarts would look like in the snow. It hadn't snowed yet, but she was hoping it would by Christmastime. She added a tiny person flying on a broom in the sky above the towering shape of the Castle, and a tentacle of the Giant Squid breaking through the ice on the Great Lake.

On the inside, she added red dots, swirling around the edges, then wrote a note.

Dear Rose, Violet, and Daisy,

I hope you're doing well. I've only been here for a short time, but I've been making friends and learning a lot. You're going to love it when it's your turn to come.
Today, they're celebrating 100 days until Christmas, so I thought I'd make you a card. I'm looking forward to coming home for Christmas break. Tell Mom that she should make a gooseberry pie for when I arrive. And Rose, don't touch my stuff. I left it all exactly where I wanted it, and I shall know if it's been moved.
I love you all and I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Love,
Aster

She carefully placed the card in an envelope and sealed it to be sent with one of the school owls as soon as Aster had the chance. She was looking forward to reading her sisters' reply.

Amalia felt ready to tackle her last task. She took her last sip of hot chocolate milk, cleaned it up and put her mug aside. Squaring her shoulders, she set off for the card crafting event. A small grin lit her whole face up. 100 days before Christmas. Simply a brilliant idea. It would inspire many students to craft and participate in these three events. Christmas was all about gift-giving and coming together to celebrate. It was a season to set aside your negative thoughts and focus on all the positive things the new year could bring. Still, it was only September, but as a first year, it had brought a massive change.

They were learning so much in so many interesting subjects. She simply adored her classes. Well, most of them… She found Potions quite hard, and she did need to study for it a bit more than the others.

But back to the present, she had made brilliant ‘Melting Snowmen cookies’ and decorated the cutest ornaments. So she still needed to make a fabulous card to send home. Amalia thought that her family would be quite surprised to see a Christmas card this early in the year, but knowing her father, he would chuckle and say something like, "Amalia is just as dramatically early with crafting as you are, Vivienne!" Her mother, a fervent crafter, would probably already be deep into her next project. In August, she had started making new felt ornaments for Halloween, a muggle holiday. Amalia missed them dearly. Her heart constricted. She took a deep breath to calm herself down.

After looking at all the materials, she decided to grab some light blue crinkly paper and a snowflake stamp for her background. For her snowman, thick white felt and for the details. Black, red and orange would do. Then an idea flashed into her mind. Maybe she could make the belly transparent and fill it with some glitter.

Perfect! Something extra fun, too make sure it sparkled.

Then she got started. Stamping her light blue background with white snowflakes. Then, before it dried, she added some white sparkles. Amalia stuck her tongue out in concentration while cutting her snowman to shape. It had to be perfectly round. Her nose itched and she absentmindedly brushed it, causing a layer of glitter to spread along her face. Now everything, including her, was covered in glitter.

She cut out a black top hat and added a red ribbon onto the top of it. Making it stand out a little bit more. Then the mouth, eyes and nose got glued on.

Now for the transparent belly, she took some bigger glittering materials and put a sort of plastic on top of it. In between some thick two-sided adhesive tape. This added a bit of 3D effect. As a finishing touch and to hide some of the borders of her 3D belly, she glued a red scarf on.

She looked her project over one last time and felt relieved. Her parents would be so happy to hear from her and she desperately wanted to write to them. But she decided that she would write the inside of her card in her dorm. Where she had a bit more privacy and no one would bat an eye at a student tearing up while writing a letter.
