The more she ran, the more the mist cleared up. That was good. Of course, she didn't make it very far uncontested, two of the Anaconda players very quickly at her heels and out for blood (or just the flag; probably just the flag). Logan was at her side, too, there to help her through the water back to the bank. Her teammate was a nice, steadying presence, and another of their teammates was pulling ahead, leading them into the treeline.

But then she heard something call to her, loud and persistent and welcoming, and she turned her head toward the noise from deeper waters. That was a mistake. Everyone knew you should look where you were going when you ran so you didn't trip. Phyllis tripped, over a rock or maybe a root, and the hand of the fair-haired boy closed around the flag. Between the trip and the tug, she went down, knees skidding over slimy river rocks and coming up scraped. Damn. The flag was lost and watery blood was quick to roll down her legs and stain her (thoroughly soaked) socks when she stood.

"Hey!" she protested, but not with any real bite. Bloody knees and all, Phyllis was grinning. "Just where do you think you're going with that?" Let it be known that Phyllis would love all the one-liners in a shitty action movie.

"Um dia é da caça, outro do caçador."
One day is of the prey, another of the predator.
—Proverb

The proverb ringing through Manu's head was beginning to ring true; surely many times during this game, she had felt like the predator in this game of cat and mouse. Again, this would prove true when she finally caught sight of the older Hogwarts girl who had eluded her earlier, with the brunette hair: "Petrificus Totalus!" Years of being one of Castelobruxo's eldest and most storied duellists proved helpful as Manu's cast struck the fellow seventh-year directly on, and Manu grinned, turning to move away. Except...

A bright light flared from somewhere nearby, and just like in a bad dream, Manu looked down at her shoes to find she could not move. Of course, the rain had become so heavy that her feet had become stuck in the mud! Murmuring some choice words under her breath, Manu squinted against the light - some girl had cast something, clearly, though no one Manu particularly recognised - and wriggled against the shackles that her shoes had become, frustrated by the turn of her own school's ground against her. How many times had she been out in this exact rainforest and encountered such a tragic downpour that had given her this exact scenario? Why had she not come prepared for this? And just like that, the predator became the prey, a vicious cycle restarting all over again.

The young Slytherin was still in Zone 4, but now the circumstances were slightly different. There was a downpour! Thankfully, she quickly ducked for cover to spare her from getting drenched. She quickly shook her head and tucked a few damp strands of hair out of her eyes. ‘I guess I won’t need a full shower after this,’ she reflected. This seemed to be a very chaotic game, and likely would continue to be chaotic. At least, that was what she thought thus far. She couldn’t see what was happening in the other zones to tell if something exciting was happening. Regardless, she had her hands full just where she was.

With her mind racing, she figured that the best thing she could do was to try to help her teammates actually see. And, why make a half-hearted attempt? Only the best would do. Kaitlyn raised her wand into the air. “Lumos Maxima!” She attempted to cast. But, things quickly devolved from there. Yes, a bright orb was summoned. Yet, her spell misfired, as the orb didn’t help her team see. Oh no. Instead, the blinding bright light rose above her team. With a hiss and a swear, she quickly covered her eyes. This was not good at all. She could only hope this didn’t put them at a disadvantage.

Logan Baird, Caiman Jungle banner
Logan's mind was only blank for a second before she launched herself forwards to assist. The Anaconda team was clearly not giving up and would probably be fighting til the end. It didn't surprise her in the slightest, she knew how competitive some of these students could get.

The girl quickly helped Phyllis back up the bank and out of the water. She assumed the other team would be close behind them, not wanting to lose, so back into the jungle they would go.

The Hufflepuff took off into the jungle after her teammate. Sure, she needed to help with the flag but she also wanted to stay as close as possible and not get lost. Logan launched herself over roots and under lower hanging branches, crashing through the brush as she attempted to keep up. It was clear at this point they were not trying to hide.

Nearly losing her balance on a wet piece of ground, Logan only had seconds to catch her breath and steady herself before she was off again, afraid of being left behind. She was definitely having fun now, but the jungle still terrified her and she was definitely not giving any opportunity to be left behind.

Kanthil didn't really like her base. She wanted to go back to the forest. She was sure she would find something useful. So she pivoted, avoiding the enemies in the base camp, and went back to the forest zone.

She could see the people from her team were also going back to the forest zone. If only she knew their name, she could shout and run to them. But the reality was, she didn't know them yet. It was a bit sad that it was already this far, but she didn't really know anyone yet. She was in a team, but she felt alone. This made her remember that she should bring her snake to whatever the event was. If that event didn't allow animals, she would still bring it. She didn't like the loneliness, like the one she felt right now.

And hopefully, she could get to know the girls in the forest zone.

However, when she was about to raise her hand to greet them, a strange voice could be heard nearby. Her focus shifted to the source immediately, curious to know what voice it was. But curiosity killed the cat. Or snake, since Kanthil loved snakes more than cats. She didn't realise that she moved to the body of water instead of the teammate she wanted to greet.

Great.

Another obstacle to get more friends.

She cursed in her head. She looked around what creature disturbed her focus. She would want to hunt it. She also wanted to curse this Amazon forest. And this Castelobruxo school. And everyone who made this event.

One day, when she was strong enough, they would see their doom.

That was what was inside her mind. The grudge and loneliness added more fire to her anger.

Lindsey thoughtfully chewed her bottom lip as she started to observe her surroundings. They had already proved that there was no flag in zone 3, so apparently, it was hidden somewhere in the opponents' base. Chocolate brown gaze attentively searched the district, attempting to spot a fold of the flag in some suspicious corner. Not here, nor here, nor there - she nimbly evaded the downpour as she continued her search, before finally, finally locating it behind some vines. Eventually. They could turn the tables.

"I found the fla-!" Lindsey was so proud and thrilled to announce her fantastic findings to her teammates (yes, she forgot that she only had one with her in the same zone), that she totally forgot to properly check her surroundings. Someone - she only caught a glimpse of the dark brown haired silhouette as she fell - performed a perfect Full-Body Bind Curse precisely on her, and Lindsey was doomed to lose control of her libs. She helplessly fell to the ground and accepted her fate, the double heavy thuds making her startle, only to find that Tone, her only teammate in this zone and who could have been a great helper to secure the flag, was now in the same condition as her. And no, this was not the end. Just as she stared blankly at the sky and the rain cloud merrily drifting across, a lightning bolt struck her true. Lindsey gasped and tried to cover her face, yet she was as stiff as a popsicle fresh out of the refrigerator. She closed her eyes exhaustedly. Fine. Let it be.

Kanae watched as her seniors carried the game, figuratively and literally with the opposing team's flag in tow. Despite the limited range of view, the flag was safe though now they were about to enter a zone with a lot more opponents. She didn't really know how to help but she'll do the best she can!

Now this is the part the imaginary spectators would've been waiting for. Wait... what was that? A glint in the river nearby caught her attention. Everything after that was really a blur for Kanae as she crossed the border between Zone 2 and Zone 3. Whoah...

Her eyes widened as the glint caught her attention again.

Was that... something in the water?

Before she could properly think about it, her feet were already carrying her forward. The dense foliage scraped against her robes as she pushed through, barely registering the branches in her way. Her focus remained fixed on that strange shimmer beneath the surface.

"WHAT THE HE—" Too bad she didn't learn as many English cuss words to express her shock.

Kanae landed knee-deep in the river, water immediately soaking through her clothes. She blinked rapidly, staring at the ripples around her.

"...Oh."

For a moment, everything was strangely quiet. Then she remembered where she was.

"Kuso.."

Kanae lowered her stance and carefully followed after the upperclassmen, keeping her eyes trained on the surrounding foliage. She just hoped whatever she'd seen in the river wasn't planning on following her.

--- Unsure of what to do at the moment, Guinevere made her way slowly around the area, taking faint notice of the singing that wafted softly in the air. It sounded far away, almost blending with the strange sounds that arose from the jungle floor whenever the Slytherin girl took a step forward. No one was in her vicinity right now, and she took this as an opportunity to examine her surroundings further. Partially it was for confirming that there were no dangers nearby, though it was also just for the sake of nature's beauty.

Not even realizing that she had forgotten to breathe, she slowly kept on the move, her gaze drifting between the path she had decided on ahead of her and the vast expanse of green. It was when she had heard the sound of a scuffle breaking out when Guinevere knew she was at her destination. Ahead, the sight of four figures in total fighting over something was strange at first, but realization slowly set in that it was likely a flag, though she was not sure if it was their own or the opponents'. Unwilling to join in on the action just yet, she awkwardly stood by the side. "Is that... our flag..." she queried halfheartedly to Colin. She mentally congratulated herself for such impeccable timing on her comment.

Right as Marietta was getting comfy, she had to do actual capture the flag stuff. Its okay Marietta you got this, for goodness sakes your a fourth year now! You can cast spells and stuff-. As she told herself this, her wand immediately proved her wand by just- not casting anything. Not even a bright little spark left the wand tip.

Part of her was surprised she hadn't blown off an eyebrow, the other part was too focused on dodging an assailant's spell to really think about. Well atleast she'd done something right. Though, not getting hit by a spell felt like a pretty low baseline for 'something right'.

Stop that she chided herself, we take our wins were we can get them. This suprised Marietta... her mind wasn't typically this safe a place. Probably the adrenaline of doing the first competitive thing you've done in years curdling your brain. Yeah, that sounded about right. Marietta, kinda liked it though, it was like the same exhilaration of climbing a tree, but doubled.

She doubted she would ever participate in sports after this. Her distaste so far had proven accurate, but maybe there was something else she could do to get her heart pounding like it was now.

A lot of things were happening at once, which Mahlioz was used to from duelling, but never quite at this scale. For instance, it didn't exactly often rain on the duelling piste. It was true that in Scotland, it rained basically 95% of the year, so it wasn't new, per se, but this rain was a little more uncomfortable - harder, warmer, somehow wetter?

Despite it, Mahlioz had to focus. Thankfully, her petrificus totalus was a great success, though she did feel a little bad for casting it at the guy who had just been blindfolded. Not that she hadn't done that before, considering their last duel. "Agh, sorry man," she apologized quickly.

It seemed he wouldn't be the only unlucky member of their opposing team, however. Another petrificus was cast, by an older girl from a different school - probably Castelobruxo, seeing how comfortable she looked in the rainforest. There was suddenly a blinding light, and Mahlioz had to cover their eyes in order not to lose their eyesight (which was something they were absolutely positive the staff wouldn't have done anything to stop in time, for... reasons). Well. Hopefully that would go out soon, so they wouldn't get ambushed. By players or by leopards or monkeys or any other quite frankly terrifying thing that was out here.
