The Slytherin Table 2026-2027

'SLYTHERIN!'

As the Hat shout out her House, she let out a sign of relief and walked to the Slytherin Table. People cheered and clapped as she sat down in a random seat, patting her on the shoulder. She watched the other first-years getting sorted, and thought of the girl whom she met on the train, but she couldn't recall her name.

Soon, the Sorting ended.

Irene looked in awe as food appeared in front of them magically. It was unbelievable, how many food the plates on the table seemed to hold: roast beef, lamb chops, steak and kidney pie, roasted potatoes, mashed potatoes, chips, carrots...all sorts of food, and, for some weird reasons, peppermint humbugs. Students in all direction started chatting and helping themselves to food and drinks. The feast had begun. Irene was fascinated and had no idea what she should eat first, so she took a sip from her goblet and it was something she never drank before: pumpkin juice. Even her mother got used to drinking tea, and coffee once she married her father.

She turned now to see the students sitting next to and across her. Some fourth grade girls sat giggling and talking very quickly and quietly amongst themselves, sometimes glancing at other students. The girl sitting right across her, @Bella Light, had long, wavy brown hair and dark eyes, she was very pretty indeed.

The Slytherin Table 2026-2027
After separating from her friend @Xio Arcana to go separate ways for the House feast, Bella walked over to the Slytherin table, feeling really excited to meet her Housemates, who she would get to know well for the next seven years.
She saw a girl sitting across her with silvery-white hair, who she remembered was a first year.

"Hi! My name is Bella Light, nice to meet you! I'm a first year, just like you! Wait, you are a first year, too, right? What's your name? How are you? I am so excited to make new friends here in my house!" Bella exclaimed to the girl across from her.

Suddenly, food started to appear in front of them with a wave of the teacher's wand. Bella's eyes widened in awe, and she gave a huge smile.

"Do you know what you are going to try first? I have NO CLUE what I want to eat, because they all look so good!" Bella said, then added in a hushed whisper. "Though eating the wrong foods will have consequences, I heard."

Bella poured herself a goblet of something pink and hoped it was flavor-changing, like the drink Xio had told her before. Of course, there was always the possibility that it was disgusting, though in that case, it would still be interesting to try.

"Sorry, I get really talkative when I'm excited or nervous. Tell me more about yourself!"

The room felt unreal as Edith made her way from the front of the great hall down to the Slytherin table.

Her first instinct was that something was wrong. She knew Slytherins had a bad reputation, and she was better than bad reputations. Her mom had been a Hufflepuff. She should be a Hufflepuff. Not because she was just like her mom, but because she was friendly! Hardworking! Kind even!

She sat down at the table, still wrapped up in thought.

"WELCOME!" someone nearby shouted, patting her on the back rather forcefully.
Edith turned to the boy. He was grinning and so was everyone around him. Edith was still sitting still, at a loss for words. An older girl smirked down at her knowingly:
"You'll do just fine here," she said "You must be really driven. There's always a reason for what the Sorting Hat chooses, sometimes it just takes a second to see it."

It only took a moment for Edith to catch on-- maybe the Sorting Hat was right. She was awfully driven, and goal-oriented. She supposed that didn't mean she had to be conniving or evil. There were lots of good Slytherins after all, and lots of friendly faces looking back at her around the table. With this realization, she smiled back and dug into a plate full of hardy, warm dinner-- a meal she'd remember forever.

Irene gave @Bella Light a small smile.

'It's fine, I get talkative sometimes too,' she said, helping herself to some roasted potatoes. 'I'm Irene, Irene Stone. Nice to meet you too. And me too, I'm really excited to make friends in my House.

'I'm half-blood, My mother works in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. She's an Auror.' Her voice became a little prouder an a small smile appeared on her face. 'You know, Dark wizard catchers. Though there aren't a lot of them left,' she added hastily.

'My father's a photographer,' she continued, 'I'm planning to put the right potion on it so the photographs can move, but I don't know yet which potion I should put...I'll ask my mother, she has a lot of moving photographs, but my father thinks that stillness is also a type of art.

'I think that's all about myself,' she finished, pouring herself another goblet of pumpkin juice. She only just remembered Bella asking her what she was going to try first.

'I think pumpkin juice is quite nice,' she said thoughtfully, peering at the pink beverage in Bella's goblet, 'though I have no idea what that it...they do have a lot of weird foods here, too, like the Every Flavour Beans. Oh yeah, speaking of the Beans, how's your collection going? I only have four beans right now.'

Bella was excited to hear that her new friend was half-blood, too. She could barely contain her excitement of having a new Slytherin friend.

"Really? An auror? That's so cool! I did photography when I was younger, too, and I found it to be quite fun. Your parents are so interesting!" Bella exclaimed.

She looked down at Irene's pumpkin juice, and then her own pink drink.

"Uhh...yeah. Weird foods are Hogwarts specialty, I'll say. Almost everything is enchanted to become slightly different, whether it changes flavor, color, has lasting effects, flies away, you know what I mean! Oh, yeah, Every Flavor Beans! I believe I collected, what, like ten beans? Maybe twelve? I'm not very sure. But maybe we can grow our bean collection together!" Bella laughed.

She turned to look at the array of sweets and desserts placed in front of them.

"Oh, yeah, the chocolate frogs! It's so cool, really, how you are eating magic when you eat these sweets. But of course, I believe there are also normal foods in case enchanted ones are too much, yeah?"

Bella turned and looked around all four houses' tables. Bella gave a relaxed sigh, grinning, as she turned back to Irene.

"It's so cool how so many people meet in Hogwarts and make new friends! It's not even only in the houses, it's also between houses, too! And like, the feast, it's everything I've dreamed of."

Irene was happy, too, having made a friend so fast on the first day at Hogwarts. She grinned and, as she finished her steak and kidney pie, all the foods disappeared and at once, all sorts of sweets, desserts, and puddings appeared on the table instead.

She raised her eyebrows and looked in awe at the sweets and desserts.

'Ooh,' she said, hearing about the special effects of the foods from her new friend, and did not hesitate to reach out for a small candy with black and white stripes, a peppermint humbug.

'Ten beans? Oh, you collect them fast...I only have five,' she continued, chewing on the peppermint humbug, which was so hard that it nearly made her teeth askew. 'Ouch, sure, why not?'

She decided not to eat another peppermint humbug and started on a chocolate Γ©clairs, which turned out to be very tasty.

'I know,' replied she, enthusiastically, enchanting food was not something you see everyday. She looked back at @Bella Light. Hearing what she said about making friends between houses, she remembered something.

'I know a friend from Gryffindor,' she said, looking vaguely across the hall at the Gryffindor table. 'I think she said that she's a dhampir or whatever it was...'

She frowned, trying to remember. Then she shrugged.

'My memory's not the best,' she said, signing, 'maybe we can meet her tomorrow.'

It was almost jarring coming back to school. The arrival experience was much different than her first year. Though, it did make sense. After all, she couldn't expect for the boats to bring all the students in across the lake every year. That would take forever, and diminish the magical experience of getting to see the castle for the first time. Instead, the older students got to enjoy a rather bumpy carriage ride up to the castle before being filtered into the Great Hall for the Sorting Ceremony.

Now that part, she thought, was much more enjoyable from the audience. Taliesin couldn't help but keenly watch the faces of each student as they were sorted off. It was exciting getting to watch each new student embarking on their own little journey as they took their places. And they all looked so excited... well, most of them. Once in a while she noticed a sour or disappointed look before the child scuttled off to their respective table. Perhaps they'd learn to embrace where they were going though.

Taliesin knew first hand what it felt like to feel like you'd been misplaced; even if she was in the house she'd wanted, more often than not, she felt like she was too small for all the strong personalities that surrounded her. However, this year, she did plan to make it a personal goal to be better, be bigger. No more nervous fidgeting or crying for no good reason. It was bad enough she'd been such a crybaby all year last year, but now she was an upperclassmen. And upperclassmen certainly do not cry.

As the feast began, Taliesin helped herself to whatever she wanted, trying to ignore the voice in the back of her mind (a voice that sounded suspiciously like her mother) reiterating proper meal etiquette and polite portion sizes and other such nonsense. Absolutely not was she about to let her mother ruin the fact that she was finally free back at school to do things exactly as she pleased and preferred.

Quietly, she listened to the chatter around her while she ate, occasionally slipping a bit of veg into her pocket where Gwyn cuddled up. Mother definitely wouldn't approve of having a rabbit at the table... but she'd argue he was technically at the table, just snoozing in her pocket. Its not like he had his fluffy behind on the tabletop, nibbling off her plate.

"The girl who carried her last name like a burden..."
