Errand Magical Law Enforcement

The Department of Magical Law Enforcement had been given an assignment that sounded incredibly straightforward. While this was supposed to be a fun activity for the younger and older Students, this was also an opportunity to gain a badge for one’s fulfilled duty as a Ministry Official. Those who’d want to work as an Auror later could now train their eyes to focus, their senses to sharpen and their minds to comprehend what one sees, hears, or perhaps just thinks they saw or heard.

Patrolling the Campgrounds was by far no task for a distracting conversation between you and your Department Members, however it was encouraged to not walk around alone. After all, safety came in numbers when walking into unknown territory.

Your task is to report any unusual activity, magical abnormalities or suspicious happenings. Write them down, see whether you can stop them from happening or… join in? Whatever one may decide on, this activity calls for creativity and a unique set of skills.

Upon approaching the table where Students would receive their task, they would find a stack of official-looking forms. Beside them stood quills, snacks and drinks, as patrolling is known to possibly become quite the long task,

The patrol itself was entirely up to the campers Ministry trainees, officials and workers themselves.

Perhaps they would walk the perimeter of the campgrounds. Perhaps they would investigate the cabins. Perhaps they would simply wander through the trees while attempting to look sufficiently authoritative.

Whatever route was chosen, they would need to keep their eyes open.

Because something unusual was bound to happen eventually.
OOC: Participants will be provided with a list of 20 possible things they might encounter during their patrol. Roll a D20 in Discord to determine what happens, or ask the moderation team to roll for you.

- An NPC insists they saw “a suspicious cloaked figure” but their description changes every time they tell the story.
Vale stared down at the table stacked with what could be comparable to doing over-the-summer homework. Stacks of paper that demanded a detailed report of everything suspicious that was found on Vale's predetermined patrol of the camp. She took a flick of paper with a raised eyebrow, inspecting the sheet just to see if it happened to be the same textured paper that had her name tagged.

It seems awfully humorous. The amount of effort people endure to become Aurors, only to do something as mundane and bleak as writing dull reports. Even as Vale's red pupils scanned the words across the paper, she couldn't find a sense of subjective thrill to be had. She flipped the paper over and over, expecting to find something of note, but nothing. Report on her findings.

Vale let out a sigh, tilting her head in her observations before partaking in shoving a few snacks into her robes, and a carry of her chosen drink, ensuring it wasn't overly sugared. Doctor's orders.

With an ease of slip, Vale simply moved along with zero concern regarding having an 'ally' besides her during the patrol. Vale simply didn't need one. Anything of a 'threat' would simply spot her and turn tail as usual. Speaking of such, her report may very well be dull after all.

"I could just lie about it, yes. Maybe I could say I found something quite dead? Oh hush Ashes, lying isn't so bad if the truth doesn't hurt all the same." Vale spoke to nobody in general...except down to two ragdolls with stitched smiles and frowns.

Vale, on the other hand, smiled all without the need of threaded help.

She hummed thoughtfully, wandering along a chosen path that only led Vale to sketchy areas of the camp. She casually stepped over broken tree limbs and avoided uneven ground. Vale's boots heavily cracked the ground beneath her. Just as she was about to write her bogus story, she spotted something convincingly human hurrying back and forth on the dense tree ground. That even made Vale halt in her roaming, tilting her head as this person kept their nervous gait.

Her smile lurked back onto her face, and she swerved over in a curious manner.

"You're acting as if you found a dead body! Where is it? Is the flesh still on it?"

That made the person nearly jump and bolt off at the antagonistic sound of Vale's voice. A nervous stare before a measly return to their gait. Oh, interesting. Something giving a person a reason to be less afraid of Vale than that something?

"There's something sketchy going on at this camp. I just know it. Especially after what I've seen." The figure spoke in a mutter. Vale turned her head, blinking her lenses to take in moisture. Despite her spot, dryness still seems to be a lurking factor. Sigh.

"So...no dead body?" The figure began to be flabbergasted by Vale's pursuit of a morbid answer. "N-No! At least, not yet, maybe never at all, I hope." That definitely got Vale's attention. Her eyes lit up eagerly.

"Okay, spill the guts. What is making you jump around like a frog? A ghost? A dark wizard?" The person nervously looked away before whispering down to Vale. "Some sketchy lookin' fellow in a robe. Caught them lurking about the camp, you see. Look up to no good."

Vale looked herself over, "You're gonna have to be a bit more specific. I can at least name one person who holds that incredible reputation, and I am very, utterly selfish about who else can have it. Dare I say, almost willing to kill over it." That made the person straighten up. Vale only kept her smile, only giggling at her own, bizarre joke.

"Black robes...er, gray laces. Tall. Taller than me." Vale only hummed. Maybe she found something interesting enough to write a real report over. Just as she was about to sign off on her dull paperwork, "W-Wait, no! It was...it was gray robes and black laces." Such a shame to have a poor memory recollection. Someone like that wouldn't even be able to hold a grudge for a day. Well, in fairness, it wasn't like Vale knew much about keeping harsh grudges of her own.

"Black robes or gray robes? Come on, I have no time to play such a boring game you're entailing here. I've broken bones for a lot less, you know." The person fumbled again in a panic. "B-Black robes! I swear by it! B-By the cabins. Must've been looking for something! Or someone?" Vale sighed, writing away on her report anyway. They were uh...they were wearing black clothes too. Or...or grey too...?" They hurried up when Vale looked back up to them with newly bored eyes.

"A-Anyways! They were at the cabins! Looking for...looking for something, yes." "Wonderful! Go get them." The person became flabbergasted again. "I-I beg your pardon? Vale waved a hand off to where the cabins were. "Go get them. Tell them to come here and explain themselves. And then we can go looking for dead bodies together. Isn't that a horrific yet wondrous ending to our turmoil? I brought snacks." Vale pulled out some sort of savory treat from her robe, shaking it as if to entice her witness.

They swallowed, "That's not...! T-They're looking to commit a crime-!" "And I'm bored and feel tempted to commit crimes of my own. What is an upcoming Auror to do? I can't have that on my record beforehand; can I now? Shouldn't adults be good role models to children? Go. Get. Them. If you don't come back by sundown with our suspicious friend, I may have to disarm you of your wand and conduct a merciless investigation. I mean by removing your arms from your body, of course. You don't really need them anyway, now do you? I heard many people can cast magic without their wands." They made a jump and bolted off in the direction of...not even the cabins. Well, Vale didn't even have to do much.

Vale signed her report off, considering it a closed case.

"Now Ashes, I believe we did what we needed to, hm? Let's turn this dull paper in and consider it a closed case. I don't believe our lying friend will be back anytime soon. What a shame." The ragdoll did not speak back; it could not, wouldn't. "What? You wish to still explore? Hm, okay. But if we find real bones, we're only taking one. Father said we can't be greedy. We have a bunch at home already. Vale laughed, and into the shadowy trees, she lurked away.
