Pyce was practically skipping onto Platform 9¾. It felt like they had been waiting all year for this very moment! It had really only been a few months since Pyce's first year ended, and they had spent summer camp on school grounds, but the point remained! Pyce was absolutely giddy to return to Hogwarts! Their first year had been an... experience. They hadn't made the most of their first day (or week... or month...) and now was the time to rectify that! Hecate had already run off to stick with the people he met at camp, and Pyce was fine with that! They were so lucky they ended up in Gryffindor and not Slytherin, lest the two twins be even more joined at the hip than they were pre-Hogwarts. As it was, they had both grown in their own ways since that fateful sorting ceremony. Was Pyce still upset about the outcome? A little bit, but they couldn't complain anymore. By the time they left last year, the Gryffindor commons felt just like home!
The overeager lion dragged their luggage onto the train and searched around for a compartment with someone they recognized. As it was, Pyce had horrible luck, and horrible eyesight. They ended up in an empty compartment, and struggled to get their luggage stowed away.
Once that was done, they pulled out one of their many books, Horrorcow their beloved lizard, and a box of fizzing whizbees. They were completely and utterly ready for this day! They were practically vibrating with excitement! Horrorcow didn't approve of that, but that was more because her pillow wasn't staying still.

A Fresh Start

𝕯enisse was so excited to finally be on the train to Hogwarts for the second time. Even though she misses her best friend back at home, she'd prefer if she didn't live with her insufferable parents, trying to control her. They never let Denisse have the freedom to choose what will be hers at the end. From insisting she get an owl instead of a cat to putting unrealistic expectations on her. Someday, after she graduates, all her focus will be studying and caring for magical creatures, where she doesn't have to talk to her parents again.
HISS!
The scarlet train was ready to go as Denisse entered platform nine and three quarters with her trunk rolling after her. The platform was crammed with students chatting, the cooing of the owls in their cages and the excited shuffle and greetings between those that hadn't seen one another in all summer.
Denisse clenched the handle on her trunk, so it wasn't being ripped out of her hands - heart beating like a drum against her ribs.
Year two. She isn't the clueless child clutching a piece of paper in terrified little hands. She jumped aboard the train, maneuvering her way up the narrow carriage with the doors flung open everywhere and the sounds spilling out to greet her until she rounded a corner and spotted Pyce almost quivering with excitement as he bounced against the compartment with Horrorcow the lizard lolling on a cushion looking supremely unbothered. Denisse recognized a book sitting in front of him: 'how to speak dragonese' she smiled faintly, relieved.
Pushing the door open, she took a few more steps to slide her trunk inside "Do you mind if I sit?"
she mumbled, as though she already hadn't moved. A clank at her calf and the silver Siberian cat, Katya, poked her head out of its carrier, narrowed, bright blue eyes meeting with her own. She knew Pyce from the summer camp and they, by chance had chosen the same department together so she reasoned it would be fine if they traveled together.
"Dragonese? I'm not sure if I've heard any notable wizards who could speak it, let alone heard of it..." Katya, when positioned on Denisse's lap where she was now purring against her chest, stretch out with an enormous amount of languor then settle into Denisse’s embrace as the train finally jerked and began to pick up speed, pulling out into the countryside where parents began to dwindle with waves then disappear into the blur beyond the windows as the train whistled, blending with the rumbling of the carriage and the vibrations from Katya's rumbling engine as Denisse, smiled dimly, her tension finally beginning to ease into nothing.

A Fresh Start

𝕯enisse looked up when the door to the compartment opened again. For half a second she tensed, expecting her to plunge into more collective grumbling about train travel, but that feeling evaporated instantly when she saw the girl who was standing there.
"Ophelia."
She smiled again, softer this time.
"Sure. There's tons of room."
Katya lifted her head from her lap long enough to give this new passenger a critical blue-eyed glare before deciding that Ophelia was hardly worth disturbing her nap over. The silver cat settled herself down right away with a disdainful huff.
Denisse carefully shifted her legs so that Ophelia was able to settle her luggage.
The train shook beneath them, steadily gaining speed as London fell behind them and the fields and distant villages kept rushing past. The familiar rhythmic clunking of wheels on tracks fell over the silence for a moment.
Then, unexpectedly, she let out a tiny laugh.
It was more the kind of laugh that doesn't last long and cannot be stopped. Katya immediately pried open one eye at the sound, and Denisse felt almost surprised by it. She looked down at the cat, feeling embarrassed. "Don't look at me like that."
The cat blinked.
Turning back to Ophelia, she shifted her grip on Katya's middle.
"How was your summer?"

A Hufflepuff, who Pyce recognized as Denisse De Vera, one of their summer cabin mates, entered the compartment, asking if she could join. "Of course!" Pyce chirped. It was always good to see a familiar face.
Denisse's cat poked her fluffy head out of her carrier. "Hello to you too, Katya." Pyce greeted.
It was not long before Denisse commented on Pyce's book, their favorite of the How to Train Your Dragon series, the third book, How to Speak Dragonese. The favoritism was due to the extensive list of dragonese words compiled within the pages, far more than any of the other books had covered. Despite knowing it was quite simplified, seeing as the spoken language itself was always described as whistles and pops and chirps, whereas written it was just words, Pyce still loved it, and could never hop to learn it.
"It's not a real language. But I wish it was," Pyce said wistfully. Talking to dragons has to be my life dream. But unfortunately, they're too dangerous." Pyce held the book out. "Do you want to read it? It's the third of the series, but I read this one first when I found it and it made plenty sense."
Someone else joined the compartment, and despite being dressed in Gryffindor garb, Pyce couldn't really say they recognized her. Denisse did though, and that was good enough for Pyce. Who surely would have invited this newcomer to join regardless.
