PV Morning Meetings: Breakfast At Slytherins Cl

Reducio
NB: Backdated to the 2nd of September, the second day of school.
What an eventful first day! It'd taken Leah almost three hours to fall asleep the previous night. There was a buzz in the air, especially around all the first years. The excitement and anticipation to start the school year was taking over, spilling out into the halls and common rooms. Being a Muggle-born and not used to being in such a big place, it was slightly overwhelming. She wasn't used to the feast, or the sea of people in her allocated house: Gryffindor. She was lucky someone from Hogwarts was able to help her with buying her school supplies, or she'd still be in her bedroom at her Aunt and Uncle's, reading or playing outside.

There was another feeling Leah had been trying to ignore since she set foot in the castle. Homesick. Despite not having spent much time with her Aunt and Uncle, she definitely missed them. She'd only been living with them for almost six months. It'd been an amazing six months too. She wasn't living in constant fear and didn't spend her nights hiding under her bed.

Just like the previous night, Leah was filled with excitement. Today was the first day of lessons, something she was eager to try. She'd never thought she'd be doing Charms or Potions or Transfiguration any day. But today she had all three! Charms in the morning, Potions afterwards then Transfiguration after lunch. Lunch sounded great...breakfast first.

The Great Hall wasn't very busy this early in the morning. Leah had managed to get herself dressed properly this morning, despite being too excited. She had to tie her tie three times before she got it right. Draped in scarlet and gold, Leah walked into the Great Hall. There were sputters of students sitting at all four tables, eating and chatting happily. Leah was feeling fairly bold today. She didn't feel like sitting with her fellow lions. She decided she mingle with the other houses. Leah always enjoyed the colour green, so Slytherin it was.

Letting her hands rest against her sides, she walked over to the Slytherin table. Her eyes landed on a boy around her age, sitting on his own. His clothes looked a mess. Leah watched him, biting back a laugh as she approached him. Maybe she could make a new friend today? Without asking, Leah walked over to the boy and smiled. "Good morning," she mused, taking a seat beside the boy. "You looked kinda lonely and like you need a friend." Despite being a lion, Leah definitely was a social butterfly, always ready to be friendly to strangers. Her eyes widened at the assortment of food, lined perfectly in the middle of the table. "Boy, that's a lot of food!" Leah wasn't used to ravish feasts and exotic foods. Her Aunt wasn't a great cook and it often resulted in Chinese takeout or something of that nature.

Hogwarts. The rooms were stuffy, the beds felt lumpy, curtains smelled musty, and a constant dampness lingered in the castle. Kian was certainly a long way from his cushy home life. Sorting had gone pleasantly and as expected landing the boy in his family’s traditional house for the next seven years, Slytherin. For all the accolades that would bring him back home, the celebrating would have to wait. Instead harsh reality greeted the newly crowned snake upon waking the next morning. After a restless night of tossing and turning, half from excitement and the other half an uncomfortably limp pillow, Kian had finally conceded to having a sleepless night and instead rolled to one side, glaring at the snoring boy across from him.

A couple of chimes from someone’s clock had made the boy’s eyes snap open realizing he must have at one point dozed off. Although he felt as if he had taken a forty foot tumble into a field of brambles before being trampled by his family’s prized stallion. Oh, and his mouth was dry. Fantastic. Drowsy he had reached for the glass of water that sat on his nightstand out of habit. He swiped at air. Right, he was no longer at home. Sitting up and kicking his feet forward, another instinctual move to hunt for his slippers, nothing. Again, a hand grasped out for his robe that hung by his bedside, air slipping between his fingers.

No clothes laid out. No maid coming in with a tray of breakfast. No comforts. Kian’s morning had rudely come crashing down around him. Deciding maybe if anything breakfast could give him something to do and get out of this dingy dorm, he had propped open his trunk and gotten ready for the day, pulling out a neatly folded stack of clothes, his uniform for the day. His first day.

Finding his way around had proven a difficult task. Trying to rely on his own sense of direction hadn’t worked out and when he caved in, begrudgingly asked some passing third years the direction of the Great Hall they had been less than pleasant. Oblivious to the fact it had been completely warranted from his terse tone and chin being held high while he demanded the direction to the hall for breakfast. He would learn, eventually. Just as he would learn that Hogwarts did not come fully prepared with people to iron your clothes nor dress you. In his mind, Kian looked... halfway decent. Tugging at the edge of his shirt he looked at the creases in his robes, most likely from traveling. This was all just an adjustment, he reminded himself. Things would be different on a full stomach. Not to mention today meant classes, more importantly Charms to be exact.

Eventually he came upon the entrance to the Great Hall and stepped inside. It was much quieter than last night, the atmosphere less dense and droning. A handful of students here and there that had clearly woken up early to get a head start for the day. It seemed prime time for anyone wanting some peace and quite, perfect. No snoring bunk mate or sneering faces. It was clear there was an order to things even here. Houses sat together at specific tables. Kian found some comfort in that, even if very little. Drawing in a long breath and filling his chest the boy walked over to the table he had sat at the night before. Racks of toast floated by, jams of all kind were laid out on the table, various breakfast foods arranged on the table by what Kian could only assumed was some sort of spell or house elves, similar to those at his family’s estate.

Kian ignored the looks he had been receiving by a couple of his house mates, unaware how disheveled he actually appeared to be, the first time in eleven years the boy had dressed himself. Instead he focused on filling his plate. He had waited for a moment and realized it was a serve yourself type situation, how pedestrian. Toast on one side, a small pile of scrambled egg, hash in a neat lump and goblet of orange juice. A rumble tensed the boy’s stomach as he adjusted his position on the bench, back already aching having to sit at a strange angle. He brought the goblet to his lips and closed his eyes trying to tune out the small side conversation happening at the table behind him. Something along the lines of, well what he could only assume was girly gossip.

Kian let out a gurgle into his goblet, juice trickling down the sides of his mouth and along his neck. Someone had spoken to him and they actually sounded friendly. Clearing his throat and hurriedly snatching the napkin from his lap, he dapped at the liquid on his neck and collar of his shirt. ”Fr-Friend?!” A pitchy break in his voice, whether from nervousness or simply age, made him swallow hard. Would the girl take it as lack of confidence? Kian immediately sat a little taller and rolled his shoulders back. He had never sat this close to a girl in his entire life! Alright, his little sister and cousin did not count. This was his first major interaction, he could not screw this up, nor waste it. ”The elves do a good job.” His compliment though seemingly genuine sounded more robotic, an automatic response from years of training ingrained into the young boy already. Cutting at his toast, his used his knife to set aside the larger piece and fork to bring the smaller slice to his mouth. From the corner of his eye, Kian sized the girl up, inspecting her closely. She had the crimson Gryffindor crest emblazoned across her uniform. Not a bad house, but certainly not the best. ”Charms first thing?” Small talk, he was good at that if anything thanks to his family. Though, in truth, having a friend couldn’t hurt... could it?

This was terrible. State school had been difficult. Home had been unsettling. And Hogwarts was...lonely. While the prospect of a magical school was something beyond her wildest dreams, it had separated her from the one person she truly cared about: her father. Gregory Blaine was anything but affectionate. He was stoic, academic, and perhaps even demanding (or so his students said); not unlike his daughter who shared these trait. But the loss of Tess, as much as it had been coming for many, many years, had crippled him in a way unlike anything else. The only way to make it through was as father and daughter together. But now they were separated by land and sea, not to mention the study of something they had both only believed to exist in faerie stories.

As such, Elspeth had not slept well that first night. She hadn't slept very much at all. While others seemed to adjust to being away from home immediately, Els just tossed and turned in her bed, thinking of Edinburgh and the home she'd left behind. The professor who had informed them that magic was real described it as this vast, awe-inspiring universe. And while certain things were pleasant--the boat ride had been nice--she had yet to see this glimmer here. But then, ever since her mother's diagnosis she had seldom seen a glimmer in very much of anything at all. The world was grey and dim. But rather than wondering where the colors had gone, Elspeth simply acknowledged that they no longer existed. Not for her anyway.

Needless to say, settling in was not going very well. There had been a few friendly faces on the train, but they all seemed to scatter after that. Not to mention this whole sorting thing had really thrown those potential friendships for a loop. Elspeth didn't like it very much. It struck her like something done at post private schools to separate the rich kids from the plebeians. And just walking in and around the Slytherin dorms, they certainly seemed like they thought they were the rich kids. And maybe some of them were, but that was just rude to be all showy. Elspeth tried to be proud that she was the child of a (recently) single parent and that they lived on a professor's salary. She didn't have the things others did, but in her own way, she could still be great. She just had to figure out what that looked like.

But big questions of self-worth might as well rest for another day. It was perhaps too much for a common eleven year old to handle. Instead, she'd take things slowly, one at a time. And the first thing was breakfast. That was how to start the day.

Slipping on her house robes, she gathered her things and make her way out of the dungeons and up towards the Great Hall. This was one of her favorite things so far: it was like climbing of the darkness into the light, except literally. The dungeons weren't very good for reading, she had to admit, so it was much better to be up here where the candlelight filled the Great Hall. Not to mention the classic menagerie of food that could entice and fill any student before a hard day of magical learning.

As she stepped into the Hall, she looked for a familiar face, but there didn't seem to be any. So she took the obvious course, and trudged along the side of the Slytherin table. After all, this was going to be her home for the next seven years so she may as well get used to it. But she had yet to meet a Slytherin with whom she connected in any real way, so finding a place was not exactly natural. She was about to hop into an empty space when she spied one of the girls from the train along the table. "Leah?" she asked as she approached the girl, who from her robes had made it into Gryffindor. She was sitting next to a boy in her own house, who she hadn't met yet.

"Do you mind if I sit with you?" she asked them both as she stepped into the seat near them. "I'm Elspeth," she said as she reached out to shake the boy's hand before she grabbed a free plate and began to fill it with breakfast items. One good thing about Hogwarts: this was a lot more hearty than the toast and jam she had at home. While she missed breakfast at home with her father, being more properly fed was not something she was going to complain about any time soon, especially with Charms coming up that morning.

PV Morning Meetings: Breakfast At Slytherins Cl
Another year thought Alan as he awoke in the comforts of his dorm. The young lad had the luxury of waking up in a place he considered his second home. Over the summer break since the visit from his friends over the holidays, Alan couldn't wait to get back into it, this time with a new mindset. "Be confident like your friend Gris." the boy thought to himself, his rucksack packed for the day with books all Alan needed to do was get changed out of his Ninja Turtle jammies.

Taking a look out the window that was close to his bed, Alan let out a deep sigh "Today is your day, your year, I mean look at it the day looks beautiful heh..." It felt like yesterday Alan was in this very dorm, staring out the window of his first year at Hogwarts; The anxiety and nerves which plagued the boy's mind had all but passed knowing fully well he wasn't alone anymore having made a friend along the way. "Second-year, New year" is a phrase that his Nan said to him before leaving Kings Cross which gave Alan drive, new ways to challenge himself from classes to participation, the young lad considered more extracurricular activities to make friends. But before Alan could do all those things, his pocket watch went off, buzzing like an alarm clock with small screeches sounding eerily like his mother "Breakfast Al! Get something to eat! it's the most important meal of the day!" Looking at the enchanted pocket watch which sat on the bedside table having almost rattled itself onto the floor, Alan caught it before it could drop and said: "Yes Ma, I'm just about to head out now." The pocket watch stopped rattling as Alan made his way to the Great Hall.

Approaching the Great Hall, the smell of breakfast lingered near the door, causing a groan from Alan's stomach, a bit loud but fortunately, no one was around to notice at least, so he thought. Before deciding to do anything else. All the young lad could think about is Pancakes with syrup on top, making his way the hall wasn't as busy seeing many empty rows.
Alan stared over towards the Gryffindor table, looking for his friend Griseldis; unfortunately, the prefect was nowhere in sight. Assuming Gris was off on her Prefect duties or still asleep Alan, defaulted his way towards the Ravenclaw table, the boy pondered as he strolled seeing a Gryffindor girl sit beside a Slytherin boy. "This is a good time to make new friends, why not start with the Al." he thought to himself.

Approaching the small group of first years at the Gryffindor Table, Alan smiled a bit nervous when it comes to meeting new people "H-H-Hi there f-fellas, m-mind if I join you?" Alan moved to sit beside the Slytherin Girl who introduced herself as 'Elspeth' "I'm Alan, think I saw you guys getting sorted into your houses yesterday if I remember right?"
The Young lad removed his rucksack chocked filled with second-year textbooks, placing it onto the empty spot next to him. Waiting for the group to respond Alan, helped himself to a large stack of pancakes, flooding the plate with maple syrup and scooping a small piece of butter on top. After Alan had made his breakfast, he whipped out a notepad which looked like a to-do list, ticking off the label "Eat Breakfast."
while waiting for the first years to respond.
