She was minding her own business when she met this rambunctious girl with vivid auburn hair and sparkling wide eyes, with her short stature to the point that one could mistake her for an eight-year-old on loose.
"Ya!" she hollered, pointing at Denise with her stubby finger.
Denise turned, utterly perplexed at being called out. "Me?" She repeated, pointing to herself.
"Aye, ya! I've fifty galleons if ya help wit tis favor!"
She didn't expect to fill in as a moderator, while the girl in question, Sylvia Savage, was off to doing something she knew smelled of trouble. Well, she never met anyone with a more suiting name than Sylvia Savage.

She sighed; it would likely be her last year at Hogwarts. Her grandmother, discovering her magical abilities, admitted that she was a child of a squib and apparently wanted to move back to Uruguay, and she would be transferring to Castelobruxo and having a completely different life soon, abandoning everything they had built behind.
Denise, with a flimsy school broom, trugged on and saw all the participants lined up. She took her bright red megaphone and blared, "Welcome everyone to this unofficial Broom Racing match. Whether this is your first time Broom Racing or even if you are a seasoned player, I hope you will enjoy this match. I will only be moderating the beginning of this match... erm, Sylvia Savage, the host of this unofficial match, would be taking over soon from her... errand? And I hope you would enjoy."
She pulled out a flaming red whistle, matching her megaphone. "All the mark, get set, and go!"
She blew her whistle, indicating it was time for the racers to speed off.

Denise Yarbrough had moderated an unofficial Quidditch that Ophelia was present at, but the raven was still somewhat surprised to see the girl moderate another broom-related sport during the summer camp. It was one of their last days there, and Ophelia thought a third time about her decisions in signing up. What's done was done, but the girl didn't seem to be as confident in her spell-casting as she now was in flying; thanks to her cabinmate and teammate, Zephyr, who'd helped her with flying in their first year at Hogwarts. Participating in unofficial Quidditch matches in her first year had also helped her improve her flying, although it sometimes was kind of scary to target schoolmates with a bludger.
Summer camp had been really interesting and quite fun until then, and Ophelia hoped this Broomracing match would increase the fun. Actually, she knew that it would. No matter what the results were, they would still be having fun. Twirling her wand between her right hand's fingers, she thought about how difficult it'd be to cast spells while flying; having to make sure you dodged others' spells and came out of units with obstacles alive. She made a mental note to ask the Broomracer how he managed that, either when he got there or after the unofficial match. It must be tiring, "Alright, here we go,"

She had had a fantastic time at the camp so far this month and she had only just learned not too long ago that her Kolibri and Romtøff were going to be coming tomorrow as well! She could not wait to see them and tell them all about all the fantastic experiences that she had had here so far─training and feasting and hunting and tracking. Now she had heard of a thing of "broom racing", and as fortune would have had it her Kolibri had gifted her "Luciana" which was one of these fantastic enchanted brooms. Lovely was she, a beauty of woodcraft and metallurgy. While she had only just managed to learn how to cause the item to "rise" and how to safely mount it... she figured that practice was the only way by which she was to improve her skills with it. And she was not a girl to turn down a perfectly good competition that featured the bravest, strongest, and most cunning. She had even dressed up for it and elected to wear battle paint designed to call upon the strengths of Muninn Memory and Huginn Thought made of bone ash and black kohl. The black wings of the ravens would surely guide her though the most difficult of the terrain and dangers that it could throw at her. She approached the rest of her teammates with a golden gleam in her eyes and a fiercely determined expression. Despite herself, her braids began to ruffle, their textures shifting from soft flax into feathery glow as blue iris melted into aurelian burnish. The eyes of an eagle, to cut through the deceptions and darkness as her fingernails curled about her broom sharpened into claws. She smiled at them, gold shimmering as brightly as her sharp teeth. "Fyrir dýrð, blóð, ok sœmð! old no: For glory, blood, and honor!" Was the shieldmaiden's war-cry, dressed in furs and leather. She glared at the enemy team with a fervor, baring her teeth as she mounted the Moontrimmer "Luciana". They would not prevail or claim victory if it was in her power as Odin's daughter. She reached for a loose branch overhead, pulling it from the yew tree before throwing it with all her might over the heads of the enemy team; it planted itself into the ground as she let out a bloodcurdling shriek that seemed to rattle the air and beat her chest. Broomracing?! Out of everything else she could do? She must have gone crazy, this sport is not for her, you can attack people and no one will stop you, in what world is that allowed! Yes, they have bludgers in quidditch, but that's about it unless you want to go for a penalty lap. Survival of the strongest, or in this case fastest, is the principle of broom racing, in quidditch you just need to find a random flying thing. She must have not been in her right state of mind when she decided it's a good idea to join, which truthfully she wasn't, not after all that happened during the beginning of the summer break, maybe she wanted to let out all her anger and... Sadness? By taking it out on others. Not very Hufflepuff of her, but well, no one is there to tell her that, and with no one to stop her, and her kindness thrown out the window, she joined, too late to back off now.
----The enemies, wait no, opponents today seem to be none other than @Zephyr Deakin her broom racer friend and cabin-mate, not a good start at all. And then there is her other cabin-mate @Ophelia Vanderbilt. At least it's safe to say someone from her cabin is going to win. The others she did not know very well, so maybe she'll feel less guilty about throwing a couple of curses their way, if she ever has the guts to do that.
----With those thoughts on her mind, and her broom in hand, Harumi walked towards the place where the race was supposed to take place, praying that luck is on her side and that her team wins. When she arrived she greeted them with a smile, the only one she knew was Veda, who was on her team during capture the flag game, Henry is in Hufflepuff like her, and then there's Kanae and Zyva, whom Harumi never saw before, are they even from Hogwarts? That remains a mystery for her. Zyva said something in a language that Harumi couldn't understand, one of the words sounded like "blood", but the girl kept her optimism and hoped the context is, well, harmless. "Yeah, let's win!" The girl encouraged.
----After mounting her broom, Harumi saw Zyva throw a branch at the other team, she looked the other way and pretended she didn't see that, Zyva is a little scary, isn't she? At least they're on the same team.

Summer at Hogwarts has a different feel to it. It was not exactly peaceful, he’s not even sure if Hogwarts was capable of being peaceful. They don’t need to rush to do their homework or review for exams. He liked summer but there was only so much waiting around he could manage before he started feeling bored, which was why the announcement of an unofficial broom race was a good kind of distraction.
Official or unofficial didn’t matter to him, as long as there were brooms involved and a course, it’s good enough in his head. He arrived with his Silver Arrow and listened to Denise as the girl welcomed everyone. As she spoke, he glanced at the other racers, smiling at the familiar faces. Harumi was on the opposing team. Since first year, whenever there’s competition or activity their group joined, he and Harumi were always on the same side. He had grown rather accustomed to seeing her as his teammate, a reliable one at that. Unfortunately, not today. Yikes.
If he learned something from being friends since first year, was that do not ignore the girl and he’s not going to make that mistake because he knew better. He saw what she could do to know the girl shouldn’t be underestimated. Maybe knowing that was an advantage? He turned his attention back to his own team and offered them an encouraging smile. Some of them had more experience than he did. He only competed for one season so he’s not going to start pretending he was an expert. “Are you all ready?” He hoped they were and that includes him.
Despite the many times he rode a broom and joined different competition involving one, there was still that familiar little flutter in his stomach whenever he got ready. He wouldn’t call it fear by now. His first season taught him that much. It’s more like anticipation with the knowledge that once they start, there wouldn’t be much time to second guess anything. He directed his broom into position together with the others at the starting line.
It was foggy that day which made this a bit challenging for them, as it obscuring what’s out there. He’s not fond of not able to see where he was going, but let’s look on the bright side of things — it’s part of the fun. His expression turned serious as he leaned forward.

xx | Kahira Valerian wasn't quite sure how she had ended up here, in an unofficial broom race. The whole thing seemed a bit foggy, especially since the young redhead was very much not a broom racer; just because her brother, @Blaize Valerian, had joined the Slytherin team at Hogwarts did not mean that the sport was anything close to worthwhile. In fact, to Kahira, it signified quite the opposite. But there weren't any unofficial Quidditch matches happening here at summer camp, at least that Kahira knew of, and she wanted to show off her broom skills somehow. Maybe that Slytherin Quidditch captain she'd met a few days before, @Cecilia Merrick, would be in the audience. If she could wow the captains for her future team before even being Sorted into the snakes, it could almost certainly mean a walk-on experience for her House team. Anyway, maybe she'd be much better at Blaize than this - probably, she would - and it would get back to him that his little sister, the spare to his heir, had beat him in yet another thing. The thought of that brought a wicked smile to her porcelain face as she strode unto the racing track at the outdoor club area on the last Wednesday of camp, her shiny new Silver Arrow clutched tightly in her grip. Whoever had said "Parents are reminded that first years are not allowed their own broomstick" had clearly never met Kahira. At least her parents hadn't bought her a Firebolt. The thing had been shined to a glimmering polish, and perhaps it looked extra sparkly because a coat of iridescent glitter had been applied to its handle - making it perhaps no more aerodynamic, but certainly more stylish. She eyed the assigned members of her team as she strode up to the starting line, her low kitten heels clicking dully on the ground; she'd certainly have to shine them later. What a pity her house-elves weren't here to do that for her; perhaps she could find a mudblood to get the job done. No, I'd rather not have them touch my things, she realised, looking her teammates up and down and assigning them her own judgments. Anyhow... ugly clothes, eyebrows too thin, badly styled hair, annoyed expression, and who in Merlin's name dyes their hair pink? Ugh. Let's hope this lot flies better than they look. The irritated-looking girl was twirling her wand between her fingers and murmured something about going, and the boy with the terrible hairdo asked if everyone was all ready. Kahira scoffed, as if offended by the very notion that she may have not been perfectly prepared for this very moment. "I was born ready. Are you?" |

To be frank, Kanae didn't know why she was here. She did sign up for it, yes. Broom racing was her initial choice in sports, though she didn't pursue it even after around a year in it. Quidditch was more of her calling. It's not that she didn't consent to joining, actually, more about how she was the eldest and seemingly most "experienced" ones there. Darn.
A part of her was still left in broom racing but that part didn't want to carry a team on her back when she's been out of the sport for years. Muscle memory might help her, Quidditch training too. Not too sure for her younger teammates though.
She didn't know anyone there either, being the oldest, and only one from Mahoutokoro there. Man, she missed the other 5th years in her school. The broom racing team there was filled with lower years, so was dueling with the exception of 1 or 2 people. Kanae might be considered a somewhat stereotypical "jock" in those western movies nowadays. Golden robes did not help, though having some beef with the headmaster can go both ways.

It took him a year to get a hang of casting spells and he tried to avoid brooms beyond beginner lessons. So then why was he at a broom racing game? More specifically, why was he participating in one!? Fawkes didn't have a hand in his sign up for this match but he was still going to blame her for this simply cause it was easier than admitting he had done it just to see what would happen.
To his knowledge Koldov didn't actually have any Broom racers quite yet. He did wonder why since the school seemed to pride themselves with their brooms but perhaps it was simply a personal choice. Raphael himself preferred duelling after all. He made his way over to the starting line to get ready to race.
He looked rather comical dragging his big tree broom behind him. He had gotten permission to use it for the race but it was still funny considering he was a bit smaller than said tree. Despite never broom racing before, he had gotten a quick rundown on how it worked so he was ready to race. He hopped onto the broom and waited.

Description: There's nothing that hits as heavy as old oak. This bulky oak tree with leaves that seem stuck in autumn, often leaves a sparse path of fiery hued leaves in its wake but the canopy always appears magically full. A fork of branches serves as an oversized steering handle while a small seat has been hollowed out in the trunk.
Prerequisites: This is considered a twink broom.
Stats: +2 to all stats besides evasion.
Speed: Top Speed is 5.
Effect: Has an increased capacity. Can carry 5 people. If the driver has the savior ability and they use the Return to Broom action, they can return two people in a round rather than just one.

The broom resting on his shoulder was an unfamiliar pressure for Henry, both literally and figuratively. He'd never flown on anything other than a school broom before, and while others might have scooted around on a parent's broom at home at some point - as a Muggleborn, he'd never had that chance himself - so on the literal front: he wasn't 100% sure how this broom was going to behave.
